We visited Trips Restaurant for my birthday dinner tonight. My daughter made reservations and the had balloons for the table and little birthday decorations on the table. The drinks were great and for appetizers we had the stuffed mushrooms and fried calamari, both dishes were delicious. The restaurant has good lighting and a welcoming environment. The service was great, and we were well attended to by the staff. I had the Prime Rib with Mashed Potatoes, and it was cooked perfectly. What an excellent experience we had at this place. Highly recommend you make reservations to ensure you get a table. The restaurant has a bar area with some dining tables available and a main dining room. As soon as we got there we were seated and taken cared of. For starters I had the lobster bisque which was excellent. Every spoonful was filled with pieces of lobster. The bisque was nice and thick which is how I like it. So flavorful and creamy. For our entrees I had the short rib osso bucco and my girlfriend had the double cut land chops, Greek style. Both meals were absolutely delicious and the portions were enormous, enough for lunch the next day. My osso bucco was served with vegetables-broccoli and carrots. I loved how hearty it was and the sauce/gravy was so good. My girlfriend had been wanting lamb chops for a while and boy was she not disappointed. The double cut was amazing. Cooked perfectly at a medium rare temperature. Lastly we finished the meal off with dessert, we had the tartufo which was delicious. The service and food were both excellent! The prime rib is absolutely to die for, I'm from Philly, here for work, and would travel here on personal time just to get it again. I don't know what they do differently and I've had prime rib from many different places from many cities and TRIPS has taken the best I've had so far. Gotta go and grab you one of these bad boys. Not the type of place you eat with your hands but I legitimately had the bone in my hands trying to get more of it. This was my mother's pick for her birthday and it did NOT disappoint. Table was outfitted with balloons, confetti, birthday napkins and two delicate red roses in a small vase. All complimentary by the way. We had a few glasses of red wine, shrimp cocktail (amazingggg, fresh jumbo shrimp) and baked clams that were ok. For our entry's, my parents called ahead for the end cut prime rib, ravioli a la vodka (no frozen raviolis here!) and pasta bolognese. Sauce is KEY in Italian food and they certainly mastered their own. Super flavorful, big portions (doggy bag for sure) and did I mention service? Our waiter and the staff all around were genuinely nice people. Looking forward to my next meal. They also have a private parking lot in the back. No need to fuss around with street parking, although it didn't seem to be a problem. Apps, meals, drinks and tip totaled about 200 for 4. Well worth every cent!! I have eaten at Trips and Viscardi's many times and have always had a good meal. I have never been there during the week. It was quiet. Service was great, as usual but my meal was a C-. I ordered their specialty - prime rib. The prime rib and baked potato were definitely "reheats". I should have realized that on such a quiet night they could not have freshly roasted prime rib. The food is great and not to much to complain about, the prime rib is the talk of the town and it took me almost 8 years of working in the city to visit this fine restaurant and I will guarantee you will not be disappointed. I had the ravioli a la vodka and let me be the first to say it will knock your socks clean off with the robust flavors and well put ingredients used to make this masterpiece. Took my mom to Trips for Mothers Day. Since my mom recently moved to the Stamford area I used YELP to find a place to celebrate my mom and my Wife. We arrived and walked through the door and was greeted right away by one of the owners. They were very warm and friendly. He asked if this was our first time and we said yes. He and my wife had the pleasure of both being teachers. He brought to our table fried zucchini. The zucchini was fried to perfection and it came with a cocktail sauce. Great twist in flavor. The waitress came over and she too was one of the nicest people we encountered. We ordered our food. I ordered Zuppa de pesch over spinach and my mom ordered fish, my wife ordered veal Frances and my daughter ordered chicken parmigiana. The food was amazing. I needed a simple restaurant to take my wife and mother in law. I hit the jackpot with Trips! The waitress could not have been any nicer. We asked her what they are known for and she proudly said "the shrimp Marin", the vodka sauce (made to order) and their rice pudding. I ordered the shrimp Marin, my wife ordered the salmon zorba and the MIL ordered the penna vodka. The food was so tasty and the portions were excellent. I ate every drop it was so good. 5 seniors wanted to try a new place (for us) and decided on Trips in Stamford. it's a family run business and one of the owners, Corky, came to welcome us. he's an energetic gentleman with lots of stories we could relate to having lived in Greenwich and patronizing his family's Viscardi's Colonial in Old Greenwich. We had a complimentary order of fried zucchini, delicious. the wait staff was friendly and knew when we were ready for the next dish. our entrees were excellent, from veal Parm, beef goulash, pasta with mussels and clams to the mouth watering plate of prime rib. Prices moderate, you won't break the bank. They were even professional enough to offer separate checks and got them all correct! we shared several desserts and left satiated and happy. The food is very good and the atmosphere is warm and hospitable. I'm not from an Italian family, but this is the next best thing. On a recent visit with friends, we had crab cakes and Lobster Bisque as starters. For main course it was veal Francese, stuffed sole, and pasta with shrimp and scallops. All very good, and finished off with cheese cake and gelatto. The owner was very much in evidence ensuring everyone was happy with the food and service. While in town for a business trip, my colleague and I decided to try Trips, at the hotel concierge's recommendation. I'm glad we did. It was AMAZING! The restaurant is located in a rather unassuming intersection that's quite easy to miss for those not familiar with the area. The interior is upscale and very pleasing, with attention to details including fresh roses on each table. The decor allows the simplistic beauty of the food to really shine, though beauty isn't the only thing bringing folks to Trips. The restaurant buzzed with excited energy and was comfortably full with seemingly satisfied patrons. Being an out-of-towner, I was surprised at the warm greeting we received upon arrival. It was reminiscent of a 'Cheers' atmosphere. We felt genuinely welcomed and appreciated as patrons. To start the dinner off, the owner sent an order of Crispy Zucchini to our table with his compliments. The sinfully delicious dish is truly remarkable, perfectly cooked and served with spicy cocktail sauce. A seemingly odd combination, but it works. The portions are generous and we had more than enough to share. For the main course, I decided to go with Chicken Caponata; Pan seared breaded chicken cutlet topped with fresh diced eggplant, tomatoes, olives, and capers, sautéed in wine and garlic. Served with a generous side of pasta, it was enough to feed two people. The dish was executed perfectly, and the bright colors made it a feast for the eyes as well as the stomach. My colleague had the catfish and remarked that is was both fresh and delicious. Even though every table was occupied, the staff's service timing was perfect. Our glasses were kept full and the pace of each course was just right. Not big dessert eaters, we decided to split the apple tart. That was a mistake, only because it was so delicious, I would have enjoyed the entire piece by myself! My colleague said the same thing. It's a huge burst of flavor, and then the whole thing almost dissolves in your mouth. It's simply divine. We had to ask for the check, which was a pleasant departure from places that just drop it off and forget about you. When the check arrived, we were shocked at how reasonable the total was. The servings were generous and the prices were more than fair, making the meal a delight in all ways. They continued to refill our iced tea and coffee glasses until we left, never making us feel rushed. We enjoyed Trips so much, that for our business lunch the following day, we returned with our client, whom we were in town to meet with. True to their 'Cheers' atmosphere, the staff remembered us and gave us a huge, warm welcome. The four of us enjoyed a lunch that lived up to the expectations set by dinner the night before.
