Oh, boy. Unfortunately, the "I love this hole in the wall diner" feelings are completely gone. At 9 am on Friday, there should be SOMEONE eating here (right?) but I was the only one for over 1/2 hour. Despite that, I had to ask for a coffee refill. I barely ate my food. Eggs were fine. Hash browns were the premade bricks you find in the freezer section. The bacon was rubbery. No es bueno! read more

Found this spot on Yelp and my friend immediately wanted to go. I was iffy but agreed since I like new breakfast places. Parking isn't great, around back and tight. The restaurant was extremely beautiful inside. Felt very welcoming. Spanish Mexican place. Our waiter was friendly and took our order immediately. If you want water, you must buy a bottle. I definitely didn't care for this. I ordered scrambled eggs, sausage and crispy home fries. My eggs were way over done. Not at all fluffy. I was done at this point but it wasn't worth asking for new eggs. I was already using a 20% off Yelp coupon. My friend said her meal was good but her tortilla was a bit too crispy. Now we get the check and there is a credit/debit card usage fee. I was never asked how I was paying. The waiter said if I paid cash, he would give me that amount back in change. Weird way of handling this. Sadly, I didn't like it enough to return. read more

This place used to be a good spot for breakfast. But the new owners just break the law to profit off customers. Ask for a glass of water with your meal, and you'll be told no - you must buy bottled water for $1.50. But It's illegal for at a licensed restaurant to charge for water. https://www.food24.com/do-you-know-its-actually-illegal-for-licensed-restaurants-to- refuse-customers-free-water/amp/ Credit card surcharges are illegal. But this place doesn't care - they just break the law. Have a close look at your bill and you'll find they've added a 4.9999% credit card fee. Or maybe you won't see it - on one copy of our bill, they hid it in a line called "taxes" ! https://portal.ct.gov/DCP/Legal/Credit-Card-Surcharge# Explained to them they're liable for a $500 fine each and every time they add a surcharge. We ate here for Sunday breakfast. I had the marinated pork Mexican breakfast with cut up pineapple (for an Al Pastor flavor). My daughter had a veggie version and my wife had the chorizo version. All were very good. I liked the homemade corn tortillas despite them being quite small. My daughter had the orange pineapple juice drink. It was very good but very sweet. I'd eat here again. read more

Went here while traveling to Amherst from NY ... read the YELP reviews & decided to check it out. YES the parking was the hardest as previous reviews have suggested. Really difficult specially if you have a SUV. The breakfast was okay. A bit bland. Nothing special to write home about. After requesting the eggs to be well done but not burnt, it was burnt & running ... not flipped around. The veg omelettes were okay ... not much flavor. The coffee was fresh & we definitely enjoyed it & requested refills. Service was good, very welcoming when we walked in. Our waitress took our orders quickly. While we were waiting for our breakfast, our server started talking in spanish while she was wiping down the other tables, to the cook who was across the counter preparing our breakfast. I don't mind them talking but you don't need to be loud and yelling your conversation in the entire seating area (mind you its not that big a seating area) ... that was a bit annoying & disturbing. We had a YELP check-in for 20% & they refused to honor it. Had to argue about it. Credit card fees are added on the bill without notification. Make sure you have enough cash if you don't want to pay extra credit card fees. read more

We were a party of two; we had the Nutella banana strawberry French toast, the he-man breakfast, very fresh orange juice, and a bottom-less mug of coffee. Great options and great service at reasonable prices. Busy but not crowded (if that makes sense). We'll be back when we're in town, and happily recommend it to others. read more

The servers at this establishment are kind, but move very slow. The restaurant was nearly empty and we waited for about 20 minutes just to give our drink order, they only offer bottled water. I ordered bacon cheese fries and they brought me a plate of soggy fries with 4 slices of american cheese microwaved on top. It was putrid. When I returned the dish they offered fries with bacon on the side. The bacon was grey and that alternative was $5 more than my order. My friend's fruit cup had a spider in it. Overall, disgusting. read more

The food and service are consistently good. The settle is informal with high top tables and stools that are quite comfortable. The chef and the wait staff are personable and efficient. There is a small but quite pleasant bar as well. read more

What a little gem we found. Waiting for a family member having a procedure in downtown Stamford, looked up this diner. Convinced my picky 15 year old son to try it. We settled on the breakfast special. It came with either pancakes or french toast. So we ordered opposites, he pair his with bacon and scrambled eggs, I had over medium with bacon delicious! The parking lot was the hardest part of the visit. The place reminds me of the 50s typical long diner with old stools and 7 tables. My son is a country boy. This city experience I hope he enjoyed. read more

The bar staff was extremely rude and unpleasant. I ordered my second cocktail around 9:15 pm. At about 9:20 pm my party was presented with the check. One person in our group went to the restroom and the barman said he could only split the bill among 4 credit cards. I said I would pay in cash and he reluctantly split the bill in 5. I have never felt like I was being escorted out of a bar like this! I am sure the owner would not be pleased with this kind of rude service!! Around 9:25 pm 3 employees were standing with their arms crossed at the bar giving me and my friend glaring stares! To top it off, someone started mopping the bar area! read more

Literally wanted to try this place since I moved to Stamford in June. Finally did today with my daughter for a yummy breakfast. Didn't miss a mark. They had everything I wanted. All cooked perfectly. All how I asked for it. Couldn't beat that. Service was good. Not sure how they're not so busy but I hope that they are given more because yum. I want you stay open. Walked from my home by cove beach. Has browns instead of homefries just made me so happy as an option. Crepes were delish. I wanted plain with just lemon and butter and powdered sugar and they let me have it my way. I really appreciate that. Nutella pancakes with strawberries Happy Happy. read more

Made a Yelp just to tell an obvious truth about this place. The restaurant's title should really be "just barely edible diner." Terrible food, the manager is slimy and does not offer water for free, you must buy bottled water for $1.50. It's illegal to charge for water at a licensed restaurant. https://www.food24.com/do-you-know-its-actually-illegal-for-licensed-restaurants-to-refuse-customers-free-water/amp/ Want to change what's on your omelette? Sure, but you'll be charged more for less toppings. The dishwasher area is visible and clearly dirty. Finally, credit card surcharges are illegal. But they're happy to break the law. https://www.lawpay.com/about/blog/credit-card-surcharge-rules/# En español, la comida, el servicio, y la falta de atención hasta para las leyes es una humillación para la gente hispana en esta ciudad. Very clean place, delicious food, non greasy, great service. I was impressed by their commitment to going the extra mile.

If you like soggy French toast and sour pancakes then you'll like this place. The fresh OJ was good. Everything else was not good at all. I'm shocked this place has 4 stars. Note: ownership of this diner has changed since my last review I stopped in as soon as they opened this morning on my way to work. Had the early bird special ( 2 eggs, coffee, hashbrowns, and toast) Food was excellent but here are my issues. - asked for rye toast was told that was 50 cents more ( really, rye is that much more expensive?) - asked for a refill of coffee and was told that the early bird special only allows for one cup of coffee. ( you have GOT to be kidding me) A refill of coffee requires an extra charge? Though the food was served quickly and was delicious, the fact that I was being "nickeled and dimed" left a bad taste in my mouth. read more

Great value and great taste. Not much to look at but that's not important in a truly great diner. Parking lot is tight.

Great little diner in Stamford. Typical diner - booths and counter stools. Opens at 6 am. It was the only place open when I was looking for breakfast at 6:15! Cash only. Typical breakfast menu. They have a breakfast special - 2 eggs, home fries, toast and coffee for $4.50. Can't beat that! read more

The food was OK. It was very loud in the restaurant, due to the TV blaring on high volume with a Spanish soap opera. On top of that, there was music playing in the background and another TV on a different channel on the other side elf the room. What cracked us up was that they could not hear who was talking on the phone that was calling in an order due of the noise in the restaurant. So that added to the volume and fun. read more

I need to write a longer review here when i have more time , but wanted to share the love for this awesome local hidden gem. One thing Stamford has some great options for is huevos rancheros and I'm adding this place to the list. Super impressed at how quickly it was delivered, meaning everything was still the perfect temperature. This would be perfect for splitting with someone because it's so much food but since I am extremely single I am going to hope this heats up well tomorrow for day 2. Appreciated the cheese and sauces in little containers on the side. If I could make one request, I would love some hotter sauce. But for delivery this is no biggie because I always have plenty of super spicy options on hand :) (pine ridge deli is my previous favorite for huevos rancheros and their red sauce is ) read more

My friends and I were passing through Stamford on our way to Rhode Island. We just wanted some quick breakfast foods. When you walk in, you can see Chef's Diner looks like any other diner with seating with barstools and booths. The menu is fairly extensive with typical breakfast and lunch items. I got the Yankee omelette and my friend got the French toast. The omelette also came with home fries and toast. The amount of food that was given was very generous and at the price we paid, it was very affordable. Overall, this diner has good, cheap food if you're looking for a quick bite. Nothing special, but filling food nonetheless. read more

BEST DINER IN STAMFORD !! here's why :) 1. AFFORDABLE - i'm a new york native residing in stamford about 4yrs now and if i've learned anything it's the quality of food is so poor for the value in comparison to new york. this is the only diner who can make an american egg and cheese for $3.25 and not fail! 2. FRESH & DELICIOUS - the fresh fruit bowl HAS to be the most underrated item on the menu. NOWHERE and i mean nowhere will you find this mix of fruits in such fresh high quality for $5 bucks. it's better than the market. another item i loved was the fresh turkey club. the juicy tomatoes and juicy fresh turkey! it's prob one of the best i've had since moving here. 3. DELIVERY & SERVICE - i've ordered here consistently since i started about a week ago and i'm sure my boyfriend and i have made 5+ orders. it's THAT good and delivery is ALWAYS before the eta on grubhub. drivers are friendly and covid aware. food arrives well packed fresh and edible. we have not dined inside but we plan to give the dinner menu a try when they extend the hours past 3pm. with covid going on, we are confident ordering with Chefs Diner. read more

Really great family style diner. Parking is a little tricky, the seating is nice and the food is excellent. Really friendly staff.

Terrible service and treatment. If I could give 0 stars I would. You shouldn't be lying about the prices of the menu items. When you go to a restaurant, you expect to pay the price listed on the menu. When we realized the charge wasn't correct and mentioned something, the worker started yelling at us. It's not our fault that you haven't updated your menus "due to COVID," which has been around for 2+ years already. The last straw was when he threatened to raise the price of our order and charge us even more money. Even the police agreed that they were being ridiculous and made the same points we made. Do everyone a favor and at least write on your old menu that the prices DO NOT reflect the current price listed. The food wasn't even good either. read more

Delicious and authentic! It's clean, well-lit, and very quick service! Plenty of items to choose from as well.

We regrettably took our chances by trying take-out from this diner yesterday. Raving Yelp reviews did not match our opinion, which was not surprising because it has happened multiple times with Stamford restaurants. Either I am a spoiled New Yorker or we just have extremely different taste buds. We arrived at the location to find how run down the restaurant appeared, which is never a good sign. We ordered the 2 eggs (sunny side up) with steak and the 2 eggs (sunny side up) with bacon and home fries. The eggs were cooked perfectly on both platters, but the steak was shaved (we expected a piece of steak ...) and very bland. The toast tasted really strange and the home fries had oddly flavored seasonings on them. The bacon was also soggy, but it was saved by the fact that it is bacon and always tastes good, in any shape or form. read more

This is the worst place to get brunch. I was in the area and saw that the reviews online were good, so I decided to give it a try. Don't make the same mistake.
