I have never given a 1 star before, so believe me when I say that this is not the restaurant you want to go to.
I've been to Paris a couple times now and there are a few things that I do, I go to the Louvre because there's always more to see, I go to the Eiffel Tower and watch the lights sparkle and I come to my favorite crepe stand on the corner of Saint Michel and Saint Germain (next to the McDonalds). But this time I was with my boyfriend and after eating crepes, seeing the Notre Dame and walking around, we were still hungry. We found ourselves walking through the touristy streets of Rue Saint-Severin and Rue de la Huchette. Late at night these streets are still very active with bars and restaurants and stores all open. Many of them have prix fixe menus around 10-15 € for a 3 course meal. So we popped into this one.
We chose this place because the menu looked pretty good and the man standing outside (whom resembled an older Mario that had retired from a life of rescuing princesses from castles) was VERY friendly and explained the menu in full detail. It looked very authentically French and they were very nice to put us at a table away from the window as there was a little wind.
I was excited to order French Onion soup, Filet Mignon, and a caramelized apple dessert. My boyfriend got escargot, some sort of duck dish, and glace de moulin.
The only good thing I can say about the food was the appetizers. My french onion soup was good and I'm sad I didn't finish it all. I was trying to save room for the main course, which was a mistake.
My dad is a master chef in French cuisine. I know what a filet should look like and let me tell you, what I got was FAR from filet mignon. They never asked me how I wanted my meat cooked, and when it came out it was well done. FILET MIGNON COOKED WELL DONE??? Has their chef even taken a cooking class before? Not only that but it was drowning in a dijon mustard sauce, probably to cover up the fact that they had ruined this piece of meat. I barely touched mine, ate a couple bites of my boyfriend's duck, and ate away at the french fries on my plate.
When the dessert came out I picked at this mush of an apple that I wouldn't consider caramelized.... it was more.... soaked in sugar with the skin on until it turned into mush, then put on my plate. The skin was waxy and disgusting. I suppose if you imagine you got apple sauce for dessert, it turned out alright. My boyfriend's dessert on the other hand was their way of giving a fancy title to strawberry ice cream. And not even good strawberry ice cream! It came out as just a single scoop and tasted like it came from a thrift store.
We were there for over an hour and a half and though I wanted to pay by card, it took them forever to return to our table, despite the lack of people that were left in the restaurant. We left cash and got out of there as fast as we could. Never. Ever. Will I eat in this area again. They will try to pull a fast one on you because you're a tourist. HA! Filet Mignon. I can't even believe this place. read more
