Cauliflower appetizer was off the chain as well as the Korean fried chicken. We also had the entrees of vegetable fried rice in a stone bowl and the beef short rib Both entrees are for sharing. They are huge. The flavor profile of the cauliflower is unexpected but is extremely good. The profiles of the fried rice and beef short rib is what is expected but with a different flair which heightens each dish well beyond average. Would highly recommend this place when in Wynwood area. Nice place in the heart of Winwood . It was recommended to me by my friend for exceptional food quality. I guess it made my expectations soaring way to high. So himachal was good if only made extremely salty, to the point that salt crystals where crunching on teeth. Tuna crunchy rice was just tasteless and way too big, it would be much better if they would reduce the size of the pieces and add some seasoning to it. I like though their soft shell crab bao bun. When we get to the main course, then I understand why my friend recommended me this place. The short ribs where just amazing! My husband and I had a chance to try Kyu's tasting menu with two cocktails as part of a special event with the "Bilt" credit card dining program. I'm not sure we understood how much food we signed up for! Portions were pretty significant--for the cauliflower dish, they gave us a whole head of cauliflower! Standouts from the dishes for me were the cauliflower dish (delicious Serrano pepper sauce!) and the rice dish (served piping hot). I'm usually a huge fan of tuna crispy rice, but ours was a bit on the overly chewy side. The last hot dish, the short ribs, was ginormous! By the time it arrived, I was a bit too full to properly enjoy it but glad was able to take leftovers home and have a tasty lunch with the leftover ribs and rice. The coconut cake at the end was delicious - very light and fluffy! Dishes came out pretty quick, except for an oddly longish break between getting the rbroccoli side and the short ribs. Kyu is one of my favorite restaurants. I first came here in 2018 and then we didn't come back for awhile due to moving out of town for a bit and also, they underwent a renovation. I was worried that the menu might change or the quality of food might lessen, but thankfully, neither happened! We arrived at the restaurant 10 minutes late (oops ) but the hostess still sat us immediately. Then our server came and offered water. He took our drink order and brought them out in fantastic timing. By that time, we were ready to order. Each item was better than the last with the only exception being the pork belly bao buns. It might be an isolated incident with just this order, but the pork belly was too sharp/hard on the edges. The tuna tataki and hamachi crudo were stellar and the avocado salad has quickly become one of our favs. The Korean fried chicken is one of their staple dishes and definitely should be ordered. This last time I went was our first time trying the gyoza and the beef short rib, both of which blew me away. Can't wait to come back here. read more

I particularly compliment the spicy squid that came with the kimchi, as well as the ground hamachi on hot crispy rice. I also had the baby back ribs, excellent but could have been a little spicier if we're thinking Korean inspired here. Also great spicy eggs served with the kimchi. I'm thinking they can expand their kimchi appetizer and make it into a main dish or for the table. Overall, a great meal and experience. We stopped in late night to their new location in Wynwood, for a bite. We remembered their fried chicken being so amazing at their last location! We ordered the fried chicken and the veggie pot rice. I liked the fried chicken better than my husband did. He thought it was too greasy and didn't love the flavor. I did want it to have more flavor ( and it did taste really greasy this time ). I loved the sauce that came with it. Though and I think that's where the flavor kicks in. It a little spicy but really delicious! We also decided to share the pot rice veggie. Again, this was really oily and we didn't love it next time I'd like to try the cauliflower because that seems to be the popular dish there and I think that's what I remember loving at their last restaurant. The wasabi fried rice would be my next choice to try , as far as the rice dishes go and the short rib looked delicious! It was late night , so we just grabbed a table outside. The service was good. It was kind of fun sitting outside people watching. It was a unique dining experience and a nice change from all of the fine dining , upscale restaurants we normally go to . Late review: I loved this place before the renavation so much that when I found out it opened again I brought some friends from out of the country to eat here and was thoroughly embarrassed. Here's the thing. I fully understand that if you want something changed you may be penalized in some kind of way. That just makes sense. We were sat in the far corner right by the kitchen so the open flame was blaring on our skin. It was SO hot and uncomfortable. To be honest even standing by the bar got sticky after a while. We spoke with who I assume was the manager Henry and he was kind, but misinformed. Our reservation was for 8:45. We got there early- a few minutes but still early. We were sat immediately and after maybe 5 minutes we were talking to him about how we were uncomfortable with the temperature. He came back from the host stand and said "I wasn't aware that you were 20 minutes late" I looked down at my phone and it was 8:47. I will understand and accept a lot of things but I will not understand or accept lies. That's not kind or true. A very unfair thing to say. Not sure if that was to try to cover up or if the girls at the front were genuinely confused but that affected our table the rest of the night. I came up with a compromise of giving up our table and waiting for some girls to finish and as a consolation we were given a free round which was very kind but the vibe was already a bust. Nothing else to say. I'm very disappointed in that interaction. Our server was super kind and was like listen I totally get it. This corner is blazing hot thank you for coming tonight! I really appreciated him. The food was good, but not as good as it used to be. We still ended up spending a few hundred dollars and had a good time, but the vibe never recovered. The fried chicken pieces are large and juicy, with sauce drizzled on top, and there's no greasiness at all. Compared to the dry and thin pork belly bun, the chicken is truly delicious! The outside is similar to the bun skin, soft and fluffy. I suggest having just one bun, cause having two would take up most of the space in your stomach! Then there's this beef short rib. When it was just served, I questioned whether the degree of browning was too much. The moment you bite into it, the beef fibers are clearly distinguishable and tender, well-marinated and juicy. It's truly a good piece of beef! The three types of sauces served with it are similar to sweet bean sauce, black vinegar sauce, and a kind of spicy seafood sauce. Each one I dipped it in, I could finish an entire stick by myself! Then there's the fried rice and tuna. The fried rice is very similar to the triangular cake from Fujian, except that this piece of glutinous rice is firmer and more chewy. The tuna paste on top is personally considered average, too fine and a bit disgusting to eat. After seasoning, there's no freshness of raw fish or the wonderfulness of this seasoning. Areas for Improvement: Transparency on Pricing As outstanding as the food and service were, there are a few areas where KYU could improve. KYU isn't cheap, which is understandable given the quality of the experience, but the $8 charge for filtered tap water left a sour taste. We were never informed that the water would be an additional charge, nor did we request multiple bottles, so we were quite shocked to see a $56 charge for water on our bill. This charge was also subject to the 20% service fee and tax, bringing the total to approximately $72 just for water. Additionally, we noticed that the 20% service charge, which functions as a gratuity, was also taxed. Even more curious, the tax rate applied was 7.8%, although the standard rate in Miami is 7%. This kind of funny math at the end of an otherwise flawless meal is not a good look and could leave guests feeling a bit taken advantage of. Came here for lunch and I was not crazy about anything I tried. Lunch menu is very limited as far as food choices. They don't have iced tea which is weird. Crab bao buns were whole crab including shell and legs which not only didn't look appetizing, didn't taste great either. All dishes had overpowering sauces to try to infuse flavor in food that would otherwise be bland. Their version of fried rice was watery and soggy and more like a weird risotto with an egg on top. Fried chicken was just okay and fillet mignon was good but tiny portion for the $50 price. Server was not friendly and did the bare minimum. Restaurants need to stop including automatic gratuity. No incentive for servers to give good service. You can throw a rock in any direction and find an Asian Fusion restaurant. I would not return here. For Korean I would pick Cote all day over this place. For Asian fusion Paperfish is so much better & they have the best bao buns in Miami imo. read more

It's taken us a long time to retry Kyu since they re-opened despite this being pre-interior destruction our favorite Miami and South Florida restaurant. But in any event it was well worth it despite the $542 bill (and $29 or so for valet parking including tax/tip). We started with their krunchy kale which was very good and their burrata which too was very good to excellent. Unfortunately their chick peas crunchy rice is no longer on the menu and we don't eat tuna/fish so that to pass on an old time favorite. Followed up with their roasted cauliflower with goat cheese that was as good as ever with outstanding flavors and their vegetarian Thai Rice Pot that too was great. We had other dishes such as the Beef Short Rib that was incredibly soft and tender and delicious with their three sauces, their great Japanese Sweet Potato shared and loved by everyone and a very good Korean Fried Chicken. Although everyone was stuffed - finished up with their coconut cake. Service and food was great. Only annoyance was that even though we were there early the music was bangingly loud, but let's just say that the restaurant was energetic and that we arrived cranky as access to0 Wynwood mixed in with South Florida traffic can be an irritant. read more

We were excited to return to KYU since their reopening. We had reservations for 5:00 pm (which is the time they open) were seated right away and greeted by our amazing server Damien. He explained the dinner and drink menu and gave us some time to think over our choices. The ambience is cool hip. The front desk CARVED OOLITE is spectacular. We placed our orders for drinks: Roshi's Island, Sakura Season and Grey Goose Dirty Martini. Beautiful presentation and all tasted amazing. We started with the famous ROASTED CAULIFLOWER. I could drink with a straw the sauce that surrounds it. A mixture of shishito minty goat cheese deliciousness. Then onto the WAGU TARTARE OMG AMAZING. It is served with 6 milk bread rolls. We licked the plate clean. TUNA CRISPY RICE was out of this world good. Henry the restaurant manager came over and asked if this was our first time or first time back since reopening, we said first time back since reopening and we brought friends. Henry was so gracious we told him we loved the sauce of the cauliflower and I was attempting to guess the ingredients. He suggested we order the Japanese Sweet Potatoe and he surprised us with an order. He was not wrong the most delicious sweet potato we had ever tasted. Explosions of flavor in your mouth. While we were seated at the bar waiting for our drinks we noticed two gentlemen standing by the bar and were asking the bartender if anyone was leaving soon. the bartender told him as of now it looks like all seats are full and thats when my bf and i offered up our seats as we were just waiting for the other couple and didnt mind standing in the meantime. Kyu recently reopened and I managed to get a reservation for this past weekend. My boyfriend and I did the Kyu Experience as this was highly recommended to us. All in all, I would not recommend doing it. It is wayy too much food to eat in one sitting and yes, you can take leftovers home but it's hard to stop eating when it's sitting in front of you! We left feeling uncomfortably full. They serve you full plates off the main menu. It starts with a crispy kale and a tuna crunchy rice piece. They then bring out a cauliflower goat cheese dish which is really good, but deceivingly filling. Then comes a Korean fried chicken which was our fav, served with a spicy sauce! Then comes a short rib which, again, was delicious, but we basically had to take the whole thing home! For sides, they brought a buttered sweet potato and broccolini. At the end, they bring you a dessert-- you have the option between a coconut cake and a s'mores cake. We opted for the s'mores but took it to go!
