Booked here because the marketing online was excellent and this looked upscale. The decor and establishment itself is right by the stadium so prime location! Interior looks nice as well but not as polished as the pics. Compared to the other establishments in the area it's a little outdated and could use a revamp. The food itself had excellent presentation but was lacking in quality. Tried a few appetizers which weren't very good, however the BREAD and Entree were delicious! Bartender and manager were very nice and social. No complaints here. Place was decent but probably would not go back considering all the newer places in the same area.
WOULD recommend (brunch). Came by on Sunday afternoon for brunch with a decent size group. They have a parking garage where you can get validated parking for 2 hours, just FYI. We were sat relatively quick, I would put reservation for this place if I were you, but when we came it wasn't too busy. We were sat and was greeted by our server, Fabian. The vibe was very nice, had the R&B jams in the background but wasn't overly loud to where you can't converse. It was a beautiful sunny day outside and it reflected all throughout the large windows of the restaurant. A+ for the ambiance. We started off with mimosa carafes for the table, great blend of juice and champagne. No complaints at all about the mimosas. He started us with a round of biscuits, with butter & jelly on the side. Would give it overall rating of 8.5/10, I actually liked them they weren't too sweetened like other biscuits. For food, I ordered the Buttermilk Waffles, turkey links, and side of Smoked Gouda Mac & Cheese. The food was good, above average in my opinion. The buttermilk waffles weren't overly crisp but still had nice warm flavor (8.7/10), turkey links were satisfactory (8.1/10), and the mac & cheese was above average as well, not out of this world but pretty good nonetheless (8.0/10). In my opinion, I give this restaurant a 5-stars, not just because of the food (4 stars), but just the overall experience. The ambiance was great, our server was hilarious, kept us entertained the entire time, and they were convenient nonetheless. They do 20% auto-gratuity as well. Was a calmer brunch with a good vibe, something that is very underrated in a city like Houston. I would recommend this place if you have older adult family in town or if you want an experience more... "demure" for a Sunday. I heavily recommend you ask for Fabian as well, very good server for us.
We went in for lunch on a Friday and were the only ones there, which is sad, it's a great place! Everyone was so friendly and helpful. The place was contemporary and comfortable. The food was amazing! They started off by bringing us biscuits with butter and jelly, that were so good! My wife had Fried Chicken with Mac and Cheese and Fries, which she absolutely loved! The breading on the chicken was seasoned well and was the perfect crispiness. The Mac and Cheese was cheesy and cooked right, and the fries were seasoned well, and very tasty. I had the Fried Catfish with Parmesan grits. It was awesome! The breading on the catfish was so crispy and seasoned well, that it stood up to the sauce and grits. They all complemented each other perfectly. The sauce had the right amount of heat for the dish. The grits had the right amount of Parmesan and seasoning that it didn't overpower the grits. I ordered a neat pour of Woodford Double Oaked, which went well with my lunch. I felt the prices were a little high for lunch comparatively, especially the pour of bourbon. I'd like to come back for dinner some evening in the future.
Tried Kulture for brunch with my husband and baby... I'm still smiling about the whole experience. We had 11:45am reservations and walked into a calm, not overcrowded vibe... which I loved. No chaos, no noise overload... just the perfect setting to actually enjoy the moment, take pics, shoot a few videos, and soak everything in. Now let's talk about Christina... because whew. She was working dual roles... bartending and serving... and did both flawlessly. Super personable, warm, and genuinely engaging. The kind of energy that makes you feel like you're more than just another table. What really stood out was her sharing her personal growth and perspective... hearing how her mentor helped shift her mindset was refreshing and honestly inspiring. That type of interaction stays with you. Big appreciation to both Christina and whoever poured into her like that... it shows. And listen... the food. CHEF'S. KISS. Every bite was giving flavor, intention, and soul. You know a place is serious when you don't even want to talk while eating. Straight finger-clappin' satisfaction all the way back to sunny Florida. Huge shoutout as well to the two gentlemen who helped my husband... top-tier hospitality. Friendly, attentive, and clearly customer-service driven. One of them literally walked to the corner of the restaurant to help him locate the parking garage. Who does that anymore? That level of care is rare and absolutely deserves recognition. Kulture delivered on food, atmosphere, and service... the full trifecta. Do yourself a favor... check them out and support. Definitely a spot worth revisiting.
After the marathon, comes the breakfast. We randomly walked into Kulture thanks to the street marketing. The atmosphere is great, with the large windows and decor. A perfect place for brunch downtown and hanging with family and friends. Music was soulful, staff were friendly, and very accommodating. Biscuits : 10/10.. Buttery, flakey, and delicious. Throw that Jam on there with a little bit of the butter, and you good to go. Gumbo: 10/10.. the gumbo had flavor and a tiny bite at the end. The portion size is enough to fill you up. Some people like thick and some people like light, this was in-between. This hit the spot on a cold day. I would order this again.
Skip this place. Kulture is not worth your time, money, nor parking challenges of downtown. My table of 3 had 90 minutes to sit and eat per the brunch "rush" that the restaurant has. Though there was no rush at all while I was there with friends. In fact, the terrible waiter rushed us to order and was visibly annoyed that we were not wanting to order until the other person arrived. Once we order he must've taken a break because he did not return to the table until after the food had been brought out by kitchen staff. Lastly the terrible server did not show the ticket he told me the price I asked to review it and he let out a deep sigh and clutched the reader as if only he could hold it. I realized that he was clutching it because he had added an additional tip for himself. Despite the resturant automatically charging each guest 20% grautity. Additionally, the food...all of our plates came out separately with mine coming out 10 - 11 minutes after the others because the kitchen didn't have my order. Thankfully, the kitchen team was on top of it and made my food. The food was subpar, I will not return here. The only good item were this biscuits and the company I was with.
The food and services were excellent. I celebrated my 40th birthday there with breakfast. My only issue, which isn't related to the food, is that there's no changing table in any bathroom. Since my daughter is only 9 months old, I had to change her on my lap in the only stall in the men's bathroom. However, the restroom was clean.
Customer service was top-tier. Trev & Christina were very friendly, and attentive The atmosphere had a perfect blend of vibrant and mellow with an urban vibe. I ordered the chicken & waffles and the portion size was very hefty. The chicken was huge, juicy, and crispy enough to make a satisfying crunch but missing a little extra seasoning. The biscuits & jam were delicious. The drinks were smooth, well-made. They are right next to the George R. Brown Convention Center so it's a super convenient stop whether you're downtown for an event, conference, or just roaming the city looking for good eats and good energy.
Had a great lunch in a really cool spot. The food options were varied and may I say tastyyyyyy!!! They had off the menu oxtail with a coconut curry and rice, the fried catfish was so good, and the lamb chops with chimichurri just scrumptious. The only meh dish was the macaroni and cheese, left me lacking. Service was A1 the staff made sure they checked in on us and the food. Its a nice place to get food after church and close to Discovery Green!
After having a date, my boyfriend & I decided on eating here for brunch. If you're coming from the garage there is a side door entrance that you go into (we missed it and was lost for a split second lol). As soon as we walked in we were greeted with a smile and although we had reservations it was not packed. They had the old skool R&B jams playing, nice lighting, and a welcoming environment. All the people we encountered were amaaaazing! I wish I remembered the two men name who were helping us! They went above and beyond & the fact they didn't have to and it was so natural, speaks volumes. If y'all see this, shout out to y'all because y'all did y'all thang! I'd definitely come back and request the server that we had! I had ordered the fried lamb chops that came with grits & he ordered the pancakes with turkey sausage & eggs. The lamb chops were chefs kiss and the grits were my faaaav! They put their foot in em lol! His pancakes tasted like funnel cakes and were so yummy! I also ordered a mango lemon drop and once again, top tier!!! Oh & for parking, if you park in the garage they will validate your ticket for 2 hours. We paid prior, but they had asked and let us know.
First visit to Kulture. Open Table restaurant reservation via credit card. Free parking available in safe Avenida North paid parking garage with validated 2 hour parking. 5/5 Only a handful of vehicles were there. Upon arrival to the perfectly placed prime real estate location near Daikon Stadium, Discovery Green, and GRB Convention Center is this jewel on the first floor with floor to ceiling windows, stage, medium sized clean restaurant, bar, comfortable seating with patio seating included, and an upper loft with seating available. 5/5 Great music plays during the visit. People started coming in so noise level was perfect during our visit. Friendly knowledgeable staff assist you throughout your visit. 5/5 Complimentary biscuits, butter, and jam are served. Biscuits were my least fav 2/5. They just didn't have that buttery, fluffy, flaky pizazz I'm accustomed too. Yet, they were still tasty. This was a special After Christmas brunch menu, in addition, to the regular reasonably priced menu. 20% gratuity added to all checks. Arrived upon opening, so entrees were served immediately. Substitutions are allowed. Ordered oxtails, Gouda Mac and cheese, fried chicken whipped sweet potatoes, collards,with a biscuit that came with the meal. 5/5. Collard had perfectly seasoned potlikker, smooth sweet potato puree, and the hottest (nit spice level) chicken I used a fork to cut since I burned my fingers. This is a great restaurant.
I have beem trying to get to Kulture for a while now but havent had luck in the past getting reservations in the past...that changed this week. I made reservations through OpenTable. We were seated immediately and greeted by our waiter soon after. I ordered the fried catfish and substituted the grits for mac n cheese. The catfish was crispy. The sauce was a great addition along with the crab meat and shrimp! What I didnt care for was the mac n cheese...the cheese sauce was soupy and didnt attach to the noodles. Overall great dish. Pro Tip: The restaurant will validated your parking up to 2 hours. But only if you park in the Marriott's self parking lot off on Rusk St.
Kulture is a must try's spot if you enjoy great food, terrific service and quieting ambience. I found Kulture on Yelp of course, trusted the community and nice again you didn't disappoint. First the food was on point, we did Sunday Brunch, I had the Crab Omelette which was delicious. The lump crab was super fresh and sweet, the omelette was cooked to perfection and the seafood lemon butter sauce tied it in with a nice kiss. I was driving so I had the coconut mojito mocktail, super flavorful and refreshing. Ohh! The homemade biscuits were a nice southern treat also. My wife had the fried lamb chops and grits, she was a lady as usual and refused to pick up the bone with her hand but they tasted so good she certainly thought about it. Our waitress/ bartender was phenomenal ( I'm sorry I can't remember her name) but she was great. Trevor the manager was super engaging with everyone and offered to validate our parking from the garage, BUT the hostess had already validated it for us. The ambiance was very inviting and unique. I really like the Kulture they're portraying at the restaurant Kulture. We will be back in October for dinner and update the review to keep you informed!
This place has great scenery. The decor and the atmosphere is chic and inviting. We came for dinner Had a great time. The food is meh but everything else is good. The table tried everything from the fried okra, the salad, the baby chicken, the shrimp and grits, the popcorn, deviled eggs, banana pudding, and the blueberry and strawberry lemonade. Great place for Happy Hour and Dinner. My girlfriends and I went for Black Restaurant Week. The ambiance is amazing!! The live band on Friday evenings was great. We were greeted upon entry. The staff was very friendly and gave us a few menu item suggestions since it was our first time. I love that they validated the parking for us for the 1st 2 hours. My favorite drink was the Bit-O-honey! Delicious. The collard green purses were good. The Fried Okra, is a must try. I love Kulture's twist on a southern dish. The Deviled Eggs were great. Everything from start to finish was fantastic. For dessert, we had the bread pudding!! It was AMAZING!! I really enjoyed the experience Kulture Krew. I'll be back. read more
I dont do this often but this place deserved every bit of this 5 star rating! Met for a date here during black restaurant week on a Monday night. Parking was a tad bit hard to find but bc i read some reviews prior to coming i knew what to expect. The pl accross the street is 20 bucks after 5pm so i went in the deck that says its for the hotel and they validated my parking for up to 2 hours! Now...the food- drool...i wanted everything but contained myself and ordered the collard pockets which were sooo juicy and had smoked turkey in it...YUM! For my main course, i ordered the chicken while my date ordered the shrimp n grits...my order initially came out wrong and i tasted it and it was also yummy lol! It was the oxtails...Droooooool! For drinks i had the old fashion which was made to perfection (so hard to find a perfectly made old fashion) Service was great as we were like the few people in the restaurant. But nonetheless our server was friendly and welcoming and gave a good detail of all the items when i asked for his opinion. perfect for girls night or a date night...LOVED it and cant wait to come back! read more

Kulture is upscale comfort food, and it did not disappoint! I'm not from the south, although I did go to college in Jackson, MS. I love Houston and it's my home (best city ever, haha), but sometimes I do get a little nostalgic and I miss the food from MS. I have no IDEA what they do to those grits in Jackson, but I've never had grits like that except there! And I do miss those. All that aside, I was really impressed by Kulture. My husband and I went on a Saturday night at about 8:30, and the restaurant had only one table available. Very popular, upbeat vibe, yet still intimate. Nice lighting and seating, the ambiance was great!! 5/5. Plus there is an upstairs looking over the bottom floor and live music! So cool. Since we were at a comfort food spot, I figured let's just get my MS comfort food faves. My husband and I ordered the Mac & cheese, shrimp and grits and collard green purses. That's another thing I miss about MS - the collard greens. Again, another thing they knock out of the park!!! These though were pretty freaking close. A wave of nostalgia hit me eating these purses. The greens had a nice tang but were still savory. So good!! Highly highly recommend. Shrimp and grits, also sooo good!! Loved the sauce they came in, the grits were delicious and shrimp were well cooked. Excellent! Mac and cheese also was so good! Would recommend this as well. We ate everything, and for a nicer restaurant I wasn't overwhelmed (in a bad way) about the price of the dishes. And it was the perfect amount of food! Finally got to try Kulture during my last visit to Houston; I'd heard a lot about it, along with some rumblings about being overrated so I was pretty cautious. Luckily it was only 2 minutes walking from our hotel so that gave us even more reason not to pass it up. We ordered the jalapeño margaritas which were cool, could've been more tart for my personal margarita preference. We ordered to share so that we could try a variety of things on the menu: Starter: Johnny Cakes - delicious, we cleaned the plate. More crispy ham is my only request! Entree: Oxtail Ragout - excellent, although we only got 4 oxtails. The coconut rice grits? Incredible. Sides: Mac & Cheese - mmm I'm a little disappointed in this Mac. First the skimpy serving size, then the lack of cheese, HOWEVER, somehow it was still a pretty tasty dish, but I wouldn't order it again. You def don't get your money's worth on this one; and for a black-owned soul food restaurant, higher end or not, the mac should be the last thing in question. This is why Kulture got 4 stars. Collard Greens - phenomenal! The most flavorful broth I'd ever had in greens, and the pulled turkey was also delicious. This was a big hit with us. Dessert: Bread Pudding. Delicious, classic bread pudding, not going to blow you away but will def satisfy your sweet tooth and fill you up. The bill came to $92 which was a little steeper than we were expecting for lunch for 2, but literally everything was worth it except the Mac. We left very happy and I'll def be visiting Kulture again when I'm in Houston, most likely for dinner next time! read more

This place is my spot! I hosted my sister's birthday dinner there this past Friday evening with a party of 10z the entire staff was SO accommodating!!! The table was in a prime location. Music was great. Noise level was just low enough where we could hear each other talk but still hear and feel the music. Easy for everyone to get to. Complimentary parking. Now the food. Honestly I wish I had a larger scale. The greens purses are so tasty with just enough spice! My family said the meatballs were delicious. The grits were so smooth they tasted like polenta! And the raspberry cheesecake pound cake was just over-the-top and soo good! I recommend this place to everyone visiting HOUSTON. It's a must try. Also had the honor of meeting Chef Dawn and she is so humble and hard working. I appreciated her great rating my sister and our table. She alone gets 5 stars! read more

Cute restaurant and great vibe. The live music was amazing and my company was even better. My friends and I ordered several appetizers and shared entrees. Everything was great until the bill came and I learned that RED SNAPPER was $60! $60 American dollars for a fish that's not rare nor hard to acquire and is quite abundant here in the gulf. I was pissed that the server didn't notify me that the price of it was $60 when ordered. Now before any of you try to be a smarty pants, the menu showed no price and indicated "MP" for market price. Now I have a question... in what market is red snapper $60?! To be honest it was the worst of all of our meals as it was severely over cooked and the slaw had zero flavor. Kulture, the food quality must match the price. I could've returned it promptly after the first bite but I don't return food unless there is an extreme issue. However, I'm sure you could imagine my anger when that hefty bill came. read more

On Saturday, my organization hosted a luncheon for some of our leadership and supporters. We had lunch at Kulture Restaurant in Houston. Larry took excellent care of us. The food was so amazing that we forgot to get pics. If you're looking for good food and a great atmosphere, check them out! Also, they're Black owned. read more

We were visiting for work and I wanted to try different food this was close and has a good rating too ! We are greeted by friendly staff, we were the only people in the restaurant. I asked what the waitress recommended and got the ox tail shepherds pie and omg Yass! She was spot on and it's been on my list to try. The flavors were deep and the meat was so flavorful, with little hits of fat that was cut but the potato and parmesan crust in top.The bartender kept the conversation up and told me about things to do in the area and the beach was about 45 min away too. For desert I couldn't pass up on my favorite thing crème brûlée !! Oh snap this was omg good !! Totally recommend trying read more

Why Kulture? Why? I wanted to like this place i really did. This was my second time coming and both times i was underwhelmed. The wait times for food is ridiculously long. The drinks are mediocre and the prices are high. I tried the collard dip with the fritters it was okay nothing impressive. My friends tried the fried okra which was light and airy although im not a fried okra fan. The star was the meatballs. They were delicious but 3 meatballs won't do nothing for nobody. Overall its a good place to be seen and everyone is nice but the price and the potions are not the business. read more

This place is pretty awesome. The portions vary in size, because some are small and some are large, but overall food is very good. I hate that I had to park in the garage, but i guess it's pretty convenient, plus the restaurant validates taking for you. I highly recommend the pork and beans and the snapper for entrees. The Jonny cakes and the cabbage thing (not sure what it's called) are awesome appetizers. The decor is pretty cool, and the service is really good. I will definitely return. read more

Visited for the first time. Enjoyed every minute of it. From the ambience, the happy hour, to the menu selections. Meatballs were off the chart! In addition a 3-piece band played featuring Al Campbell and Joe Carmouche! It added to an already great night. Wait staff was attentive, and really nice. Bartenders were entertaining. Drinks were reasonably priced and delicious! Especially the margaritas! Can't wait to go back! read more

Wow. Just wow Food: such an interesting and unique take on southern classics. The collard green quiche was so good. Very creamy texture with a flaky crust. I also ordered a mimosa, the orange juice tasted like it was freshly squeezed. Not sure what my boyfriend got but I know he loved it because there wasn't a drop left on his plate. Their plating is very picturesque! Vibe: I love me a successful, professional, black business! -okay I said it All the servers are dressed neatly with industrial style aprons. The decor and furniture is very contemporary -upscale-cozy. So the entire vibe goes along. Stopped in for brunch during Labor Day weekend for a day party brunch. They had a Dj who was playing all the good jams. This was a Monday, so there weren't very many people there, but i have a feeling this place is a whole vibe when it's busy. Service: our server was super friendly. I think he was a little nervous or new because he wasn't very knowledgeable about when to take our menus away and other small things like that. But it wasn't a big deal at all. Our food also came very quickly, good and hot. read more
The first thing I noticed about this place is that it's very beautiful. It's very contemporary modern with clean lines. It's a lovely place. The service was very good. Our waiter was attentive and we appreciated her food suggestions. The hibiscus tea was so good! I just want more of that tea! I wasn't crazy about the appetizer choices but had the deviled eggs. They were very delightful bites. The pickled topping was great. The Mac and cheese was so good. Very cheesy. The meatballs were good but needed a bit more flavor. The Johnny cakes were very good. Very sweet and mixed with the pork made a good sweet and savory dish. I would order the Johnny cakes and the Mac and cheese again but that's it. The menu is not very extensive but that was fine with me. I wish there were more entrees but there are a lot of small dishes. So if that's not your thing then this may not be for you. read more

I saw a commercial with the restaurant and since I told myself I had to try it. It only took 6 months lol. The restaurant is located downtown very close to Minute Maid Park. Keep in mind that the restaurant gives 2 hours of complementary parking. It sucks because that isn't communicated on their website and we found out AFTER we paid $20 for parking. Anyway; The restaurant is absolutely GORG! The decor, the layout, the artwork is fantastic! I had shrimp and grits and Mac & Cheese and it was SO DAMN GOOD! Like SO. DAMN. GOOD! I also indulged in the bread pudding and OMG! It was FANTASTIC! Did you hear me?! FANTASTIC! The service matched the food and I will be returning! Oh and I had a pineapple Bellini which was to DIE FOR! I was tipsy off 1! Just 1! Here's the only downer that occurred. My friend who enjoyed her food decided to order coffee. It came out so cute (pictures below) but it made her absolutely sick. She vomited about 30 min after drinking the coffee and didn't even drink the entire cup. She felt terrible but loved the food so at least something was right lol! Great restaurant. Great food. Check it out! read more

Tonight was our first experience at Kulture, and I want to go back. The atmosphere was #bougiecasual. Started the meal with fried okra appetizer, which was the best I've ever had; it was tempura fried. For the meal, the shrimp and grits were my personal favorite. The menu consisted of southern comfort foods, with an upscale twist. If parking is a concern, I was pleased to discover that they provide a 2-hour parking validation to the garage behind the restaurant. read more

Listen! So after seeing a few people post on social media about how tasty the food was I had to try it out. I went around 4pm on a Thursday. The establishment was cute, clean and full of African American culture. To start we ordered the collard green dip... different spin on greens but tasty. As my main course I ordered the Fish and my husband ordered the Oxtail Ragout. This fish was superb, so good that my husband dug in and killed half of it for me. The Oxtail Ragout was tasty as well but a tad bit too greasy. And OMG for desert we had THE BEST Bread Pudding I've ever tasted. Needless to say I was highly fulfilled and would definitely recommend Kulture to anyone looking for a great meal, a nice atmosphere or even a live band on the weekends. P.S. Small plates was good but nothing to rave about. Service is horrible...I don't know what they're doing in the kitchen the makes for items to take forever in coming out. I think they expect you to drink in the meantime? Seriously...tell me why it took nearly 45 mins for a piece of frozen cake to get thawed and warmed up. Definitely not worth returning UNLESS stuck in the area for a convention and all other options near you aren't attainable. We spent way too much time there for plates that were probably just supposed to be heated up and brought out. I try to support black owned businesses...but they need to get their act together. Wasn't even that busy. read more
Yesterday I stopped in for Happy Hour! I ordered a bit o honey cocktail and it was delicious. I like most drinks with whiskey but this one was made just right and thankful they only used a bit of honey! I ordered the Poussin dish. It took them a while but I was ok with that because it needed to be deep fried. However when my food arrived it was cold because they were trying to get the presentation perfect. The flavors were good but I'm sure they would have been better if my food was hot. Next I ordered their take on pound cake. They have a different pound cake every day of the week. I had the amaretto pound cake. The cake wasn't moist at all. It's almost like it had been toasted and was accompanied by a thin sauce and flavored cream. I enjoyed it! read more

First off..it took me about 20 minutes to park but that all was forgiven when I went to the hostess stand...I meet the hostess and they were very kind, I didn't have a reservation so my party of 3 and I were going to leave but I was allowed to sit at the bar...now as a former restaurant employee I would give this restaurant a 3 from what I have described but once at the bar the wonderful bartender and her trainee ( her name starts with an N)made us feel very welcomed. The alcoholic drink I ordered is not my favorite but it was what I ordered no fault of the restaurant itself..oh and to let you know it was called an old fashion...now I ask the double duo what they suggested I order from a coupe items I suggested..they said the chicken dinner..so I ordered it. The food came out at a reasonable time and it was delicious...OMG...my party loved there entrees to. My sister ordered desert and it to was delicious...I learned that day that it makes a difference on who is in the kitchen because the chef's were on point period. Is "kulture" a misspelling of culture?
I think it was purposely spelled that way to stand out. Its a black owned establishment. (Only thought I'd mention that ,given the K was asked about)
Is brunch child friendly?
It is child friendly there...a nice place with indoor and outdoor seating as you like.
Can I make a reservation?
No, not right now. They are not officially re-opened. They are just doing some pop-ups and soft-opening hours. You CAN make reservations for the Black Chef Table events that they are hosting, though.
Is there a wait with reservation?
Sometimes. It's difficult to make people leave who were there before you. However, there is a bar and waiting area.
Is there a line like BK? Should/can I make reservations?
You should make a reservation. Especially if you going on the weekend and during peak hours.
