Delicious Korean food. We shared pork belly lettuce wrap, bone soup with brisket, and spicy squid sauté. The pork belly wrap came with regular leaf lettuce instead of steamed Napa cabbage as the menu indicated. However, the combination of salted shrimp, soybean paste, garlic, jalapeños peppers and shredded Dakon kimchi tasted great. Also, the pork belly meat tasted fresh and had very good flavor. Bone soup was flavorful and the spicy squid was delicious as well. Decent side dishes. Good service. We will return the next time when we visit the area again. read more

Koreatown (Cue string instruments) Anyways, Koreatown is in the newly revitalized shopping center on Broadway Rd in the AZ International Market plaza. You can't miss the giant red letters if you are driving there on Broadway. We ate here for dinner tonight. The restaurant is spacious and nicely decorated with a relaxing atmosphere. We ordered the beef bulgolgi hot stone bimbimbap and a spicy chicken bulgolgi to share. While we waited for our main entrees our server presented us with a wide selection of banchan such as fish cake, marinated cucumber, kimchi, bean sprouts, and eggplant. My favorites of all of them were the cucumber and eggplant. The kimchi tasted mild and too sweet for my tastes. The dishes came out and looked amazing. The hot stone bimbimbap smelled heavenly and had a sizzle that was music to my ears. I found it odd that the beef was hidden in a small mound underneath the sunny side up egg. Wouldn't you want to showcase your main meat in your dish? The bowl itself was colorful with lots of vegetables and pleasing to the eye though and the bits of caramelized rice at the bottom of the bowl are always one of my favorite parts of this meal. The spicy chicken was coated with a red pepper sauce with onions on top and bottom of the dish. Overall, both dishes were enjoyable, but I wish the bimbimbap had more rice to go with it, and the spicy chicken's taste was a little sweeter than what I've had at other Korean restaurants. I did like how a bowl of rice was automatically included with the spicy chicken plate. At other restaurants they charge by the bowl. Prices for some items seemed a little higher for some dishes, such as the $29.99 casseroles (Meal for 2) but since I didn't order them they might be a ton of food for your money so I can't really pass too much judgement. I was disappointed that my $1.50 soda was not a fountain drink but by the can. I'll be getting iced tea or plain water next time! I am a fan of this place! I've been here a couple of times but I want to make sure I write a positive review for them. For Korean food, this is probably one of the best I've had in Phoenix. I also like variety of the side dishes. They are tasty and they give you refills when you want more. At the time of this review this is a newly opened restaurant located in the AZ International Market Place Parking Lot. The interior of the restaurant is modern airy and sleek looking. My review is based on one lunch visit. I had the Spicy Chirashi or Sushi Salad. The seafood and greens seemed pristine fresh and I liked the choice of purple rice. The waitress was very kind and she told me Koreans eat the salad mixing in the rice to the salad. I tried some of the Spicy Chicken Bulgogi from my husband's plate. It came out bubbling hot on a skillet. The chicken was expertly cooked and was very tender and moist. I didn't care for the sauce because it was cloyingly sweet and not so spicy. I feel because of the sauce on the Bulgogi I would want to give this restaurant 3.5 stars but will round it up because of Service, Atmosphere and Freshness of food. 3.5 stars read more

Holy moly flavorful! Probably the most flavor I e had in a meal in a very long time! Our table ordered beef bulgolgi and spicy chicken bulgolgi, jap chae noodles, and the spicy chirashi bowl. Tons of food. But delicious. The meat was tender and marinated well. The noodles were the perfect addition to it. The chirashi bowl, wow! I was shocked at how big the bowl was and there was so much sashimi! Well worth the price. We tried the purple rice, it was good. Not much different Tasting than the white rice. Only downside is refills were slow. I never got a refill on my water. Then the side dishes they bring out was on the bare minimum side. We had a table of three and barely had 4 bites of each side. I wish I could give 4.5 stars. I had a good experience and my food was delish. I got the kalbi bi bim bap, and it was excellent. My server was on his first day, admittedly, so the service was not perfect. However he was friendly, and as helpful as he could be. I agree with others that the food is a little better priced than Hodori. It also appears cleaner and I prefer this restaurant. I will definitely go back! Update: 7/16/16 Went back and tried the kalbi and bulgolgi. These were excellent and the service was adequate. Server was helpful and eager to refill our side dishes. In November I was in Mesa for a family member's surgery. This place is a few minutes from the Banner Desert Medical Center and was a frequent place we went for lunch and dinner. Staff were all pretty friendly and got to recognizing us. I had a couple things that were ok, but wouldn't order again: the octopus stir-fry and spicy cold noodles with sashimi. They had a wide variety on their menu and there was always something I wanted to try next time. Their steamed egg serving is big and it was excellent. I have been to Koreatown for dinner 3 times now and each time has had great food. First off, the dining area is huge. It can easily fit larger groups. Second, I love the bonchon (small appetizers) that they offer complimentary. This also means free refills! My favorite however are the entrees. I personally love the seafood tofu soup (comes with scallops, mussel, tofu, shrimp) and would recommend that. It is about $10. I would also recommend the bbq meats, especially the pork bulgogi. It comes out spicy and is amazing. Although the normal beef bulgogi is available, it is not very memorable. The only reason I knocked it down a star was that the servers were not very attentive. My table's water was not refilled until the check was given. We also had to go up to the counter and ask for our own to go boxes since no one was walking around our area. However, I would still recommend Koreatown because it is one of the best Korean places around. read more

Would not recommend this place unless you're getting a quick take out. Service was way below average. My meal was done correctly but my friend's meal wasn't what he ordered. They refused to take it back and omit it from the bill but my friend couldn't get through it even though we both like Korean food. I had to ask three times to get straws for our drinks. The waiters couldn't seem to care less. One of the side bowls they placed on our table had food stains and at the point I gave up on addressing that issue with the waiter as well. We could not get out of there fast enough. Their dessert selections are listed on the menu but not available. Another waiter seemed to mess up at the table next to us but at least that waiter was sincerely apologizing to that family. To top it all off, when our waiter was cleaning the table behind us she wasn't considerate and careful about it when she was transferring the dirty dishes to the cart and splattered behind me on my clothes, my face, neck and the table we were eating at... They might have been tired and understaffed but I don't like the fact that it's still pretty poor service at the end of the day. This restaurant is ok. The food is decent to good. The Galbi is the best item, but at $24 it's hard to justify. Every meat option is $18 otherwise, and it only comes with rice, plus the usual korean sides. Their sides are good, but the server never came back even once to offer us more, and our large group wanted more of several sides. They jacked us for 18% "gratuity". I'm not letting that happen again! We received NO service at all, so why did they get nearly $90 in "tips" from our group????!!! A young girl took our order, and some guys brought our food. That was the extent of our service. The food overall is just OK, but not worth the price. There are many better options available that cost much less, and therefore, it is unlikely that I'll return here unless a friend drags me to it. read more

I had the Seafood Tofu Soup mild spicy which came with a side of rice. I love soft tofu soup during this time of year when it's cold outside. They had a lot of tofu soup options. My seafood, mildly spicy soup was very good! There was prawn/shrimp, clams and squid in the soup. Also, they put a raw egg in the soup which cooks within the soup when it's hot so make sure you stir! My boyfriend got the combo fried rice which came with chicken, pork, and shrimp I believe. He added a fried egg. In asian cultures, it's very common to share food so of course I had to try his fried rice. I thought the fried rice was very good!! I liked the way they seasoned the fried rice, I could taste the garlic. It did need a little soy sauce but I'm glad they made it less salty because then we could season it to our liking. We used soy sauce and their spicy sweet house sauce and it was perfect! I am impressed with the service because we got everything we needed in a timely matter. I also loved their side dish potatoes! The taste is more flavorful compared to a Korean restaurant by my home. Looking at all the dishes our friends got, the dishes were big! So price wise I think everything was worth it. I'm a huge kimchi and bulgogi fan, been that way since I lived with a Koren family when I was in 9th and 10th grades. I was truly in heaven within 5 minutes of sitting. And then the meal came. Fantastic, all of it. Once again I lament my limited stomach capacity and my waning metabolism. Really looking forward to trying other dishes. The wife says we're going back. For the quality and taste, Koreatown is excellent for Korean food. (They awkwardly had sushi at one point). But Hodori is also excellent and Hodori's prices are lower too. Jin's, Po's, and Asiana Kitchen down the street have better pricing too for certain dishes. If money isn't an issue, I definitely recommend Koreatown. read more

Everytime I visit, there is always an open seat. I usually get seated and place my order really quickly. The staff is very attentive in refilling water, taking the order, bringing the food and bringing the check. My family and I ordered the japchae, pork belly, spicy pork and beef soft tofu soup. The meal of course came with free refillable side dishes. The combination of a meat dish and soup always hits the spot. The spicy pork and the soup were actually not too spicy. My dad usually can't handle spicy, but he was able to handle the spicy pork and mild spice level of the soup. The quantity of food was not bad for what we paid for. This Korean restaurant has an extensive menu from noodles to stews to sashimi to KFC with fries (Korean Fried Chicken). We ordered naengmyun in cold broth and in spicy sauce. The flavor was excellent. The noodles were well prepared al dente with great texture. Kalbi cut LA style with grilled onions were well seasoned and made delicious with char marks. Good food, but it only takes one issue and the handling of that experience by the management staff that ruined my experience of this restaurant. I've gone several times now, and the food and service have been pretty good, and normally I would give it 4 stars. However, I will not be attending in the future as well as others that I know due a recent, extremely unprofessional experience. My mother had gone to Koreatown for a lunch with her friend and decided that she wanted a soup dish. She picked the order, however, the waitress had stated something that she did not understand. She stated that she just wanted the particular soup and if they did not have it, to let her know. The waitress then took her order. When the order came out, it was not what she had ordered, and when she stated that it was not the correct order, the waitress snapped at her, behavior to what was described as "vicious". The waitress then stated that if she wanted the initial soup that my mother ordered, that she would have to pay for both dishes. At this point she had lost her appetite and wanted to leave, but they made her friend pay for the food (her friend took their dish to go). I was told this story and called the restaurant the next day to a staff member so that I could figure out exactly what had happened, and the staff member had stated that the manager was out and that they will get back to me. It's been over a week since I called and it's pretty clear to me that customer concerns are not their priority. Consumer experience is non-existent. Visitor beware. read more

Koreatown in Mesa is a Korean restaurant with a large menu and friendly staff. I was craving something cold so I got these kimchee cold noodles called Kimchee Bibim Gooksoo. This dish is on the acidic side and also spicy, the noodles are coated in a spicy sauce and mixed with kimchee. There's also cucumber and a hardboiled egg. Very flavorful dish for those times you are not feeling hot noodles or soup! read more
