    Beef Kalguksu
    Sandy G.

I've been craving kalguksu for months now, especially in this colder weather. Finally at long last, after searching far and wide, I've finally found a place that sells it in the Austin area. I must say Korean Grill didn't disappoint! They offer an extensive menu list but of course I had to order their beef kalguksu to see how it compares to what I've had back in LA. It was everything that I had hoped for and then some as well. The dish was a hearty size with plenty of ingredients. They definitely didn't skimp out on anything which is greatly appreciated. Their banchan was good as well. It came with kimchi, radish, cucumbers, potatoes and fish cakes. The service was great as well. My only minor critique is that we came here on an extremely cold day and it was also really cold inside the restaurant. Thankfully the kalguksu warmed me up but I was freezing beforehand. I wasn't sure if their heater just wasn't working that day or what. Regardless, it doesn't detract from the quality of the food. I'm already looking forward to returning here.

Blown away at how good Korean Grill was tonight! Super thankful they were open in the first place being it's Christmas Eve. We got the bone broth, beef short rib and edamame. I also thought the prices were fair too, which is rare to say in Austin. The two owners couldn't have been more sweet as well. Great job!

A very no frills place, but I love the kimchee soup here. It's nice and sour, very flavorful and a good level of spice. The seafood pancake is good, very standard. Service is quick and they come by to refill your banchan as needed.

Coming from OC, California, I had my fair share of Korean food from mom-and-pop style restaurants. Living in downtown Austin, it's a bit a drive to get to the Chinatown Center, but we finally made the trek out there. Given that there isn't much of a Korean food scene in Austin, I tried to temper my expectations with Korean Grill. To my surprise, Korean Grill managed to meet the same level of food quality and flavors as the shops in OC. All the side dishes (banchan) were knockouts, from the seasoned fishcake to the marinated cucumbers. The soft tofu soup was packed with the addictive spices and flavors that keeps you wanting more. The hot stone rice bowl (dolsot bibimbap) had a great assortment of veggies and came out piping hot - like, you can see the smoke in my photo! Now if you're familiar with these kind of Korean mom-and-pop places, you know they are not known for their service or ambiance. Sure, the interior was nothing special, but at least it was quite spacious. The mom (owner?) may come off a bit brash on first impression, but she was actually quite accommodating and attentive. All-in-all, I was quite happy with my experience! Even though the drive out there is kinda long, I'll be sure to come by again when those Korean kravings kick in!

Scallion Pancake - A scallion pancake topped with seafood and vegetables, served on a white plate, likely from a Korean restaurant.

Honestly, when we walked in we were greeted by a sign that made it unclear whether the bathroom would be working or not. The host wasn't receptive, and the place was a bit rundown. Despite there being customers, the older lady really seemed bothered so I am not sure what happened beforehand. Our family knows Korean food well and we were very disappointed at the quality of the food. We had the scallion pancake as a starter and 3 Bibimbap. My Korean roommate's Mama would make this for us every week. She didn't put it in the nice stoneware/cast pot because we were in a dorm. I have eaten this meal over a hundred times and have never loved each time except this didn't even resemble it. Ours arrived cold, with a raw egg on top of one. Not so flavorful, the rice was cold and the beef was more gristle, fat than beef. I was really needing a great Korean place on ATX. The scallion pancake was chewy; more so than I have had. It was flavorless and oily. It was reheated in the microwave. There were a couple of other people that ordered but largely empty for the most part. There's great potential especially given the location, but the quality of the food is terrible. My father in law lived in Korea for 15 years and engaged to a Korean woman and tried to engage and speak to the host but she was quite rude. In the end, we were all sick later. I usually give a place a couple of times but we had enough.

The service is terrible. We came for a late lunch and the were the only guests in the restaurant. The server was super rude, and almost seemed annoyed when we would ask for things like refills, napkins or extra kimchi. If you can get past the awful service, this place has great food. The food was fresh, came out quickly and had great flavor.

    Spicy pork

The galbi here was very delicious! What a steal for $22. Meat was tender and easy to peel off the bone. I didn't like the spicy pork much because it had a weird sour taste for some reason. The noodle dish I got was great, very light and healthy. Noodles were chewy. Not a fan of the seafood pancakes because they were a bit soggy in my opinion and I wish the sauce was sweeter instead of sour. I would definitely come back for the galbi though! Will also give the other dishes a try. Plenty of seating inside. Low-key chill spot, you can just walk in without having to wait in a long line or make reservations.

I used to live in Seoul, S. Korea as a teenager so I'm always in search for Korean restaurants. My fiancé and I decided to try this spot out. A "hole in the wall" type of place, but those are the most authentic in my opinion. It was clean and felt warm and welcoming. I really loved the wall color and tables. The staff were super friendly and the food was great. Highly recommend!

Seafood soft tofu jigae - A steaming bowl of Korean spicy soft tofu stew (soondubu jjigae) with tofu and vegetables, on a restaurant table with side dishes and other plates.

Go during their lunch time (11am-3pm weekdays), so the price is cheaper. There are a variety of bento boxes, fried rice, stews, and ramens options for their lunch menu. I got their seafood soft tofu jigae which was good and spicy. I also had their beef bulgogi ramen. The broth was slightly sweet, but I like the slightly chewy ramen the most. Both of these were on the lunch options. Their seafood pancake is huge to justify the $16 price point. It's not the best I ever had, but it wasn't bad.

Yukgaejang - A bowl of Korean spicy soup with vegetables and beef, accompanied by a side of white rice on a granite surface.
    Chelsea L.

Located in Austin's Chinatown, Korean Grill is a solid choice for Korean food! I got the Yukgaejang, which is spicy beef noodle stew and it's great! I was able to finish the whole thing for dinner. They provide banchan (side dishes) and I really love them. They are typical for Korean meals and you may ask for refills.

Spicy pork hot plate. Kimchi jiggae - A Korean meal setup with a spicy pork hot plate, kimchi jiggae, bowls of rice, and multiple side dishes on a granite table.
    Nihilaa K.

Quiet little place serving amazing Korean food ! So comforting and tasty always . Service is okay and sometimes they rush you before closing which is the only downside . Our standard go to is the kimchi jiggae and spicy pork hot pot. They are exquisite! The banchan sides are all amazing too and we usually finish them all ! Great place if you would like to grab some amazing Korean food .

    Jewls J.

The food was very good! I had the Dolsot Bibimbap, the spicy rice cake and my friend had the pork bulgogi. All plates were very good! The only thing we didn't like is that they were very rushed since they started closing, the waitress kept coming to the table asking if we needed anything, then brought check, then asked us to pay because they were closing register. She then stood nearby waiting for us to finish. Aside from that, everything was great! The restaurant seemed clean.

Bi bim bop, decent but it was much better when the original owners made it.
    Mark F.

We've been coming here for many years up until the last few years because the restaurant has had new owners/managers. Got to say I miss the original owners way of cooking the Korean dishes as opposed to management of today. For example, something simple like edamame, should not come apart in your mouth when you're eating it. It was over steamed, obviously, and actually we didn't even finish but half the bowl because it was too difficult to eat. I ordered the bi bim bop for my main meal, and although it looked the same as what I remember from years ago it definitely didn't taste the same. Can't really put my finger on it, but for me it was substandard to what I've grown used to over the years. Years ago when we used to go in the husband of the owner would always have a slightly sarcastic yet funny remark about something or another to us. Of course he knew as well enough to know he can mess around with this. These days, the restaurant is nothing but all business. We even noticed the condiments to come before your meal and after your meal has been served tasted different, I assume the new owners have their own variation of the same recipes. Unfortunately for us, the new recipe tastes just don't do it for us anymore.

Ask the Community - Korean Grill

Do togo orders come with kimchi?

    Yes, ours did.

Have you opened for dine in or take out only?

Hi Vanessa! We are open for limited dine-in and still available for take out!

If you leave the fish cakes off the spicy rice cakes would that make it vegan?

If you ask the waitress to make the dish vegan, they can adjust the recipe to accommodate.

How much for dinner and lunch generally?

Well, you could of course Google the menu . . .

What vegan options does Korean Grill have?

Hi there! We have quite a few menu items that are already vegan friendly (tofu japche, tofu bibimbap in a hot stone or regular) we can make omitting any animal products. For example, Spicy soft tofu stew with water based broth without meat and eggs.

Narrow Street 512 serves up Authentic Korean food with a personal touch. It feels like you're eating a home cooked meal at your Aunt's home in Korea. I experienced Narrow Street as a solo diner. My go-to dish I order 90 percent of the time I go there is the Chadol Plate (A3). It is beef brisket. You normally need to go to a KBBQ spot and get covered in a layer of smoke. Skip smelling like a campfire and get A4 at Narrow Street. The beef brisket comes with rice served in a metal bowl. You get 3 or four small plastic containers of banchan the rotates seasonally. There is a variety of different kimchi, fish cake, corn slaw, potato salad and more. Once in a while I like to switch it up and I order the Cold Noodles (F1) or squid and pork stir fry (A4). The cold noodles are refreshing with crisp cucumber, white radish kimchi, and korean pear. The noodles are bouncy with a nice chew. Great in Summer and Winter. The Squid and pork stir fry comes with a bowl of rice and it is quite spicy. It is spicier than average but still less spicy than Thai chili. The chewy squid and pork are nicely complemented with the crunchy stir fried cabbage. Once you taste it you can't stop eating it. The price at Narrow Street very reasonable for what you get in my opinion. It is sit down restaurant quality food in a fast casual setting. You can dine solo or go in a big group as there is plenty of seating at the Hmart Food court. You place your order at the counter and they give you a buzzer to alert you to go pick up your trays of food. The Korean ladies who work there are super friendly and will help you make your menu selection if you have any questions. I've been a dedicated regular since 2023. It is a quaint little place, not too big of a space so luckily they did not have a wait when we went. I give it a five star review because of the sushi. The food for me was good, not the best like not great, but it does satisfy the Korean food craving. Presentation of dishes was so nice and fun, the sushi was on fire literally. They start you off with banchan-kimchi, macaroni, onions, and fish cake. It's standard, nothing outstanding, but they do give free refills! 1. Taimatsu Roll - My favorite dish we ordered. It's saucy and has a nice play on textures because of the crispy fried bits on top. It is stuffed with a sizeable piece of tuna and has a sweet mayo sauce. It is definitely more fusion leaning rather than traditional. 2. Dak-Galbi - A spicy chicken dish with sweet potato matchstick slices and rice cakes. There could be more rice cakes and flavor. It was not spicy at all, more of that sweet savory taste you get from gochujang based dishes. The chicken was super tender and there was a good amount! 3. Beef Rib Stew - This was a warming stew with glass noodles, it is a basic soup that is salty and peppery (some may think it's bland). It comes with a bone in beef rib that is fall off the bone tender! Overall, while the food wasn't the most outstanding, I would definitely come back to try other items (namely the sushi). I would also love to try the inari tofu pockets I see online (not sure if they still have that though since I don't think I saw that on the menu). Also, their other fusion leaning dishes like the carbonara tteokbokki sounds interesting.
