Was craving Korean food after two hours of bowling at Diablo Valley Bowl. Found this little place tucked way back from Monument next to the Hankook Market. Not that many people were there, surprising for a Saturday night. I guess that worked to our advantage. Sat down, and was first asked about drinks promptly. Got some water and was given a menu. Ordered kimchi jjigae and my dad ordered beef dolsot bibimbap, and some tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes). Banchan came out really quickly along with the tteokbokki, about seven minutes or so after we ordered. Soon after our entrees arrived and it was really good. Lots of broth, surprisingly, in the kimchi jjigae, plus lots of pork belly and of course kimchi. Flavorful and spicy, but not overpoweringly spicy. Service also was great. Definitely coming back in the future. read more

Been going here for over a year now. Weekend regulars. And now, will have to find a new Korean restaurant in the area. We've noticed this has slowly become THE place for loud old Korean men to come for drinks after work or golf. NOT a family friendly restaurant. It's a shame too, because I really liked this place. Have noticed a steady decline in food quality and portion size over the year, but tonight's experience sealed it for us. This restaurant re-uses food. Yes, RE-USES food. What we ate tonight, from the rice to the main dish, was cooked yesterday. It was obvious to everyone at the table (who were all Korean, and we all grew up eating, and cooking, Korean food at home). This is unacceptable. I hope CDPH pays them a visit, because this just gives Korean restaurants a bad reputation. We informed the waitress that the rice was congealed, the meat was tasteless, the jigae was nothing but soup, and it was obvious to all of us that this was last night's leftovers reheated. She just smiled and said sorry. Wow. We were speechless. Don't know if there's been a change in ownership or kitchen staff or what, but we won't be coming back. It's a real shame. YUMMY!! We'd go here every weekend if our tight schedule allowed it. The house special gal-bi is excellent and the fresh widely assorted panchan is the best out of all of our usual Korean restaurants. Prices are a little high, but comparable with other Korean places. We used to hit up a restaurant in Oakland to curb our Korean fix but rather travel 20mins further to Korean BBQ Plus! This place is attached "literally" to a Korean market that we like to frequent either before or after our meal. It's also located in the same parking lot as a Mexican grocery store that seems to be a nice sized market. Also in the same mini plaza is a Mexican restaurant and on Fridays and Saturday the parking lot can fill up quick but there is additional parking in the back. read more

So I don't usually write reviews on yelp but after last nights experience at Korean BBQ Plus i decided that it was necessary. We arrived and were seated fairly quickly. We sat at the table waiting for about 5-10 minutes before we were greeted and given a menu. We noticed that everyone received hot tea upon arrival, however they must have forgotten us because we didn't get any. We ordered the seafood pancakes as an appetizer and then the Bulgogi to start with while we looked over the menu. We were brought out about 12 different little side bowls of banchan and a bowl of rice each. We waited about 10-15 minutes and then the Bulgogi came out. While we were waiting they did bring us an egg dish for free. When the Bulgogi came out ( it lacked any flavor) we also ordered bibimbap. I asked the waiter what the difference was in the different bibimbap because i specifically didnt want raw egg and i wanted the bibimbap to be hot. Her response was yes bibimbap is good , i dont think her english was that great, so i just said ok. After we had finished the Bulgogi we still hadnt received our appetizer. Also we had recieved nothing to drink. My dining partner asked if we could please have water, so they promptly brought us just 1 glass between the two of us. I had to wait another 5-10 minutes to get her attention to ask for another one. The bibimbap came out and it was cold and with a raw egg. i asked for it to please be hot and they did take it back . When the waitress brought it back, they delivered it to the table next to us and it was left sitting there until the waitress came back and the table told them it was not their order. She picked up the bowl, walked back to the kitchen then turned around and brought it back to our table. By this point it was cold again. Then finally the seafood pancake appetizer came out. it was greasy and mushy and lacked flavor. We picked at it and decided to get the bill and go. We had to ask two different waitresses for to go boxes. The bill was $50 for the two of us, ridiculously expensive for a bland meal. The service was terrible. the food was not yummy. definitely wont be going back. read more

After dining here I can say that this is the best Korean restaurant around. First of all they have a large flat screen TV about 50+ ",s that is stationed to Mike Tyson's greatest knock outs, a perfect channel to enjoy a delicious meal to. The owner was enjoying several bottles of sake and recommended his all time favorite to us, it sure taste nice. The waiter gives the restaurant 5 stars alone, he told us the secrets of Japanese women, showed us his wife, hooked us up with Korean pancakes, and stuck my soul with a passion for fine Korean food. The pork bulgogi and beef short ribs were cooked to perfection making my first ever Korean meal a pleasurable treat. I will definitely be returning in the near future. read more

I have to admit that I was emailed weeks ago from a friend of the owners to give them another try with a free meal. I happily accepted to go back, but without the free meal and to be unannounced. I was skeptical when I walked through the door again, but was totally surprised by the excellent customer service and the even more excellent dishes that lay before me! I couldn't believe this was the same restaurant! This was like entering the bizzarro world, but from going from awful to utterly amazing! This is the best Korean restaurant on the other side of the tunnel. Our family goes here at least once a week. Our two little girls scream of "Bulgogi and Rice" although we started ordering the Kalbi for them, which they love as well. I love the authentic, hot as hell stuff: Kimchi Jigae! The service is fast, friendly and typical of a Korean restaurant--you have to wave them down to get water refills. Who cares--the food is fresh, tasty and super authentic (in a good way). The side dishes are plentiful with something for everyone and they are always happy to offer you a heaping refill! This place is the most authentic Korean food I've ever had in a restaurant (Nor Cal and So Cal). And there are TONS of side dishes. Even the side dishes are amazing. The seafood pancake (hae-mul pa-jun) had CLAMS in it! And it is delicious!!! I'd order it every time I'm there. The ingredients taste very fresh and homemade. The bulgogi was perfectly flavored and very tender. And the chef gave us a service of steamed eggs, which is the best steamed eggs I've ever had (better than my moms!). It's in a funky area of town and on the back corner of a building - but oh my god - we are going to come here often. We had some bbq chicken and some bbq beef. They give you lots of "extras" with the entrees, including noodles and soup beforehand, 13 sides, and an egg dish and yogurt drink afterwards....everything was cooked to levels beyond what you'd expect for an expensive night out. I received 5 fatty chewy pieces of kalbi.. my fiances bugolgi was the most dried out chewy one I've ever had.. I doubt it was ribeye meat that they used.. I asked for an extra jap chae for my son and was told no... I would have paid if she told me it was extra.. I just got a flat no.... All in all... they did not deliver on either quality or quantity.. This has become our go-to for the closest Korean food to our home. BBQ Plus has never disappointed. We La La LOVE the LA Galbi! The KimchiJun is some of the best in the bay. The modest bowls of rice cake and dumplings are a must to cure the cravings. Yuk geh jjang kal guk soo is also a favorite! When we went to Korea BBQ Plus I was happy I found something comparable to Ohgane(Oakland) or Han IL Kwan(SF) so I don't have to drive all the way out there! The shortribs were great,bulgogi good(better than Korea House) and dol sot bim bop good too as the side dishes were plentiful. Japchae was good as well. The only negative was the location is not very good as there are people sitting by the dumpster drinking beer,it just felt like it wasn't a good area,but parking was right next to the restaurant so it is ok,but that may turn some people off. Korea House has good bento boxes(to me it is cheaper),but the food overall at KoreanBBQ PLUS is better(esp the meat) and it is comparable to MOA foodwise(but their service at MOA is excellent plus the little extras gave it 5 stars for me). read more

This restaurant has the best Korean BBQ that I've ever eaten. My family and I have been here several times. Our favorites are the japchae, bulgogi beef, and the pork belly. Also, the prices are very reasonable for the amount you get. I've been to other Korean BBQ places before that only give half of the amount of food that this place, and they charge the same amount! So, both the food quality and amount is great. When we go here during lunch, it's not really that crowded, but during dinner it gets busy. Customer service is always great. read more

This place is a MUST! We used to travel all the way out to Oakland for a good Korean meal, but not any more! We have seen this place many times and actually even stopped and looked in once but it looked so shady, we didn't want to risk it. But after reading all the great reviews here, we decided to try it and I am so mad at myself for waiting so long. Yes, the area is not the best and yes, its strange to be behind a Mexican market, but so what....the food here is so worth it. We had BBQ short ribs and the pork (samgyepsal). Two of those easily fed our party of 2 adults and 3 kids. The small dishes were tasty and they gave us at least 18 of them. There were ones we liked more than others, and they happily refilled those for us, for free. At the end of the meal, they gave us a steamed egg dish on the house. It wasn't my favorite, but the kids loved it! Ended the meal with fresh watermelon, which I thought was a nice touch, a little added bonus that made the kids even happier to return. After eating at several different Korean restaurants in Oakland and SF and a few bad ones in Concord, I think the pricing is very reasonable. We had plenty of food, all was delicious and we were out of there paying only about $40. To feed a family of 5, that is GREAT! read more

Who would have thought that there is a good Korean restaurant in Monument Blvd? It's a hidden gem, behind a Carniceria and a Mexican Shopping Plaza. We ordered Bulgogi, SAm Gyup sal and Hot Bean Paste Soup. The server/owner was friendly, however he barely spoke to us which is understandable because we don't speak Korean. Service is pretty good, considering they only had two servers. Had to wait for a while to get my check but they were busy and always moving. The food not so good. If you grew up eating korean food this should be obvious. Seafood tofu stew was bland and watery. Had to ask for salt and apply a generous amount. They had to remake it so maybe they cut corners... I would have rather waited longer for my food. Tofu stew is a basic korean stew so I cant understand why it was so bad. The Galbitang was not like any galbitang we had in the past... it had some odd bean/chili-pepper paste to it, almost if if they needed a way to keep it from being bland so they used a beanpaste base. That stuff belongs in daengjang jjigae, not galbitang. Not to mention they skimped on the meat. read more
