First time- will not be going back - staff is good- ambience is great- and the manager came around to check on the table as well- but most of the food was so very disappointing and it was not cheap either. I am not a food snob nor a picky eater, but even I cannot defend some of the food. Crunchy Spicy Tuna was really very good, as were the angry edamame beans (starter), the Pad Thai was good, and the one drink we ordered was very good - rum and coke- but the Korean 5-spiced ribs were a huge disappointment - they were tough (difficult to pull the meat off even with fingers) and they looked and tasted like the sauce had been thrown on right at the end. The fries looked and tasted a few hours old (they were nicely salted but they were hard and old). The side of coleslaw was not good either, tasted off. But the worst was the prime rib- we asked for it to be done medium rare (because the server asked how we would like it) but it came looking BOILED and tasted that way too. Kona grill has changed- used to be our favorite place. It's dirty- was given a dirty plate for appetizers- it had food on it. My Asian salad had chicken put on it- it was large dry old pieces- not chopped or fresh. My husband had Brussels sprouts that were black and over cooked with his salmon. We had a fly and a large gnat at our table the whole time. The help- Throat tattoos and seemed very woke- no personality- Our bill was $98 we could of had 2 prime rib dinners for this small bit of crappy food- such a disappointment- no wonder why the govt is inventing artificial intelligence- at least they will be better than this. Miss soup, $4.5 with great cloud of miso and assorted seaweed chunks gives it a real bite. Exquisite. There's a huge chunk of tofu and on further inspection it has two knife indents that don't actually sever my globby bits of protein. Poor guy. He just wanted to be three even cubes instead of some long tendril. Vegetarian roll $6.5 for five pieces. What? That's like more than a dollar per rice and veggie. It promised yamagobo but it tastes like pickled carrot. There is a giant piece of asparagus that tastes like wood taking up my roll. It's chewy and inedible had to spit out discreetly. I'm still trying to figure out who cut these rolls. Ginger and wasabi are served with it so it's fine. Cucumber Salad for 4.5 is a cup of salad. It's divine but really small. It's pickled just right, full of sesame seeds and colour making it both vibrant and presentable. And what is that? Is that crab. Oh come on. Why didn't you tell me there was meat in this? My wife and daughter have been here a few times but this was my second visit. Much like the first time I came here for lunch, I found the atmosphere quite relaxing and the service very good. Our waitress was attentive, courteous, and did a great job with the entrée recommendations. I started with the avocado egg rolls that paired well with the honey-cilantro sauce; it was a mellow blend of flavors and the sauce was what put the appetizer over the top. I highly recommend coconut shrimp roll, it's definitely out of this world and my only problem with it is that I wanted more...way more. I could have sat there for a couple of more hours with just this dish alone and been happy. At the risk of overstating how much I enjoyed this sushi, if this establishment caught on fire while I had a plate of the coconut shrimp roll in front of me I wouldn't make the effort to evacuate until I finished my sushi. For the entrée I was tempted to order the Big Kahuna Cheeseburger just because of Samuel L. Jackson in Pulp Fiction ("I hear they got some tasty burgers!") but being the home-grown Asian that I am (grew up in Hawaii so machine-wash warm/tumble dry low and pass the friggin' spam), genetic imprinting steered me toward the tuna Poké instead. First I'd like to thank the Kona Grill for not calling it "Ahi Tuna Poké", every time I see that cringe-worthy nomenclature on a menu I get this urge to go home and shave my head with a cheese grater while chewing on tin foil. The Poké was really good--not spicy but had a nice rich flavor. The serving was big enough where I couldn't finish it, I was close but couldn't go the distance and left a few bites behind. For dessert, the wife had the crème brulee and my kid had the fudge brownie while I tried not to slip into a food coma. Both desserts looked fantastic and were generous servings. I look forward to my next visit and definitely have the coconut shrimp roll on the list again. I may have to skip an appetizer to make room for dessert. Pretty pricy meal but well worth the cost. After a long week, I was looking forward to eating out and relaxing. I had reservations at 7 PM for an outdoor table. My party of three arrived five or 10 minutes early. When we checked in with the hostess, she said they were just wiping off our table and we'd be seated shortly. We ended up waiting almost 15 minutes and in that time saw three groups without reservations walk in and be seated before us. When I checked back in with the hostess stand, she said "oh yes, we have a table available for you right away" and seated us indoors. I was just happy to finally be seated so I didn't mention that they had seated us in the wrong area. I ordered a Hendricks martini with a twist of lemon. After a lengthy wait, the server brought me a Hendricks Paloma. When I told our server that it was the wrong cocktail he asked me if I wanted it anyway. (I assumed he was offering it free of charge since he's just have to pour it out anyways to make the correct beverage.) After we had been waiting 45 minutes for our food our server informed me that the sushi bar was backed up and offered to send part of the kids meals so they could start eating. I said yes but the food never came. After we'd been seated for an hour I asked again about the kids' food and he said it would be coming out in 5 more minutes. When the Bento box meals arrived, they had huge piles of canned diced pineapple. No cute orange bears as promised on the menu. When the sushi finally arrived the server spilled the cucumber salad juice on my seat and I had to duck out of the way to avoid getting splashed. He handed me a black napkin to clean up the spill instead of taking care of the mess himself. I ordered a second Hendricks martini and received Tanqueray gin instead. The entire night was a comedy of errors and most definitely wasn't the relaxing dining experience I had wanted. The kicker was that when the bill came I was charged for the Hendricks Paloma even though I never ordered it. I understand that restaurants get busy on Friday nights but it would have been a much better experience if they would have been proactive when they got behind on food service. Perhaps they could have offered to send edamame or some thing else to snack on if the food was delayed over an hour. Communication from the staff and paying a little bit more attention to details could have fixed 90% of our experience. read more

Happy hour is the move, great prices on a variety of unique foods. There's anything from sushi to flatbreads and they are all highly recommended. While their happy hour drink list lacks variety in terms of craft beers, they still have some great drinks. The wait staff was incredibly nice. My family and I came here for the first time and sad to day we probably won't be back. The menu is extremely over priced and the quality of the food is not worth what we were charged. My husband and I opted for the brunch. I ordered an omelette which was extremely small. The taste was great but not worth the money. My husband ordered the eggs Benedict and the eggs came hard boiled on top. We had to ask the waitress for a poached egg which came about 15 to 20 minutes after we asked for it so our food sat for a very long time. On a positive note the children's bento boxes were fairly priced and satisfying for our two kids. Our waitress even went to go look for a manager to address the concerns with our meals and one could not be found anywhere. I read through many of the reviews prior to posting this and while the owners do respond but it doesn't seem like they are publicly acknowledging the issues nor how they are resolving them but instead ask for you to call. Kona Grill has excellent food but I strongly advise against to-go orders. The system for online or call in orders is a mess. The phone goes through a corporate number that patches through to the restaurants. They then claim they didn't get the order and complain about corporate. Ordering in person is no better. The young girls at the front are not helpful or knowledgeable or both. The ordering system on their system differs from the menu and again, inevitability something is left out or wrong. I love the food which is why this review is a 2 and not a 1. But I've ordered multiple times hoping they've fixed the situation or that it might be isolated instances. Nope!
