Came in based on the beautiful lit menu out front it definitely drew me in as we were about to meet our Lyft! This place offers delicious sushi, sashimi, steaks and other tasty dishes. I got the cucumber salad (gf) and the Cilantro Lime Chicken with turmeric rice (gf). I must say that our server Diane, the host and the staff here were all friendly! The food was incredibly delicious and I was amazed at how well they handled food allergies. The cucumber salad was refreshing and paired well with my chicken they had a yogurt turmeric sauce on it and the chicken was perfectly cooked. I must say the bathroom was the one thing that could have used a little TLC, paper towels needed replenishing and due to it being busy it could have been touched up. Overall, the Kona Grill is definitely a place I would highly recommend and come to again!!! read more

Kona Grill has been a North Dallas staple for quite some time, so I decided to stop by for happy hour. One thing that still sets them apart is their reverse happy hour, which is a nice option if you're dining later in the evening. They continue to offer solid deals on their happy hour menu, which is always a plus. We tried a variety of items, including the California roll, BBQ chicken pizza, chicken fried rice, and the angry edamame. The sushi was good and probably the standout of what we ordered. The rest of the food was just okay--I remember the quality being better in the past, so that was a bit disappointing. On the bright side, the atmosphere was great. The music was on point and really added to the experience, and the customer service was genuinely good and attentive. Overall, Kona Grill is still worth checking out, especially for happy hour deals and the vibe, but the food doesn't quite hit like it used to read more

First time back at Kona since the Plano location closed. Went to this location about 430 for happy hour and it was completely empty. By the time we left at 8 PM it was live and I wish I could've stayed. The customer service was exceptional. The manager came to the table several times to make sure everything was good. The food came out hot and fresh and I wish you didn't go so early because the outside patio was really cute and I would've preferred to sit out there, but the sun was shining bright. All in all this location deserves a 10 out of 10 and I will definitely be back. read more

Tried to have dinner at this place and we didn't even make it to ordering because the place was so dirty! flies and gnats were all over the damn place. our waiter just seemed unkept and gross, sweating all over the place. I came to celebrate a friends bday and I was highly satisfied with my choice! The server was a bit overwhelmed as she had several tables and a large party! The food was delicious I ordered the smokehouse burger with extra cheese! It was the perfect choice, it was flavorful and a nice size! My friend ordered the salmon which was also great! The calamari had to be the best calamari I ever tried 10/10. The peppers do make it spicy, but adds additional flavor. I came here for the 1st time, as quick happy hour before going to the movies, and I have to say they have some good HH deals if you need some small bites. I got the BBQ flatbread that time and it was a decent size and yummy. This 2nd time I came I decided to try the $14 surf n turf which is a 3 oz steak and 3 grilled shrimp. I was highly disappointed with this. The steak was mostly fat which I mean I understand that can happen sometimes but once I cut away that fat it was barely a few bites left. I feel the cook should've compensated for that when portioning. So needless to say I won't be getting that again. Not worth it. So I ended up having to order something else to add on and satisfy my hunger and ended up getting the Bama roll I think it's called. Also on the HH menu, and that was yummy and came with 8 pieces so it made up for the lack of steak. Our server Ethan was friendly and attentive, despite being sat with a few difft tables which had him running arnd a bit. I've been coming to Kona Grill since around 2010, and I'm happy to say--it's still that spot for happy hour. Some of the best specials in town and the vibe is always on point. I recently checked out their new summer menu and wow. The All Day Chicken Brunch was my favorite--crispy chicken, a fried egg, and that potato & onion cake? So good. I also tried the Piña Rita, which was super refreshing and perfect for patio weather. The Summer Heat Roll had just the right amount of spice, and the Crab & Brie Stuffed Salmon was rich but balanced, especially with the turmeric rice and broccoli on the side. Whether you're pulling up for happy hour or their reverse happy hour, you can't go wrong. Kona Grill is one of those places that just gets it right every time. I used to really enjoy Kona Grill, but they've fallen off in all areas. The people at the reception desk are often not there when you first try to check in. I understand being gone 1-2 minutes to seat a guest, but 5+ is questionable. I can only imagine how many people have gotten tired of waiting for someone to show up, and went somewhere else to eat. I'd either suggest a first come, first serve concept & only have hosts at the front during high traffic instances OR have more than one person at the front, so someone is available to greet guests on arrival. Service wise the waitress I had was nice, but aside from taking my order & checking on me once I didn't see her as she wasn't who brought my food to me, and now everything is done digitally (as far as paying & I believe adding to your existing order), so the personable touch is no longer there. Not sure if it's Covid or the digital age that's to blame for this new cold culture within the restaurant space, but it's off putting for sure. Food wise the menu has changed up a bit since I last was here & the prices have skyrocketed, which almost made me walk out. I mean a plate of fried calamari, which is on the APPETIZERS list, should not cost $21. It used to be my favorite thing to order when they had them on their happy hour menu, because the batter was so well seasoned & the aioli like dip had a nice heat to it, but everything was bland. So I have been to Kono grill many times but this was my first at this location. And in the past, I have had fairly decent experiences. However, this time was a little different. We came to the mall to do some shopping and eat to celebrate my friend's birthday. When my friend and I walked in it was not busy but we were told that they wanted us to sit in a specific area, because they were trying to make sure that the waiters had an even distribution of tables. It wasn't our preferred area, but we went ahead and sat where they asked us to. Then we waited quite a while for our waiter to come to our table to take our drink orders, and we had questions about the drink options because they had a brunch menu and you could only get some of the specials if you ordered from . But it felt like it was an inconvenience for the waiter to provide us more details to help us make a decision. So I got something I normally get at Kona grill, which was the sake flight. And I also chose to get there sushi roll that has tuna and salmon, and I have to say, my roll was amazing. It had raw fish on it, but it was not fishy, the fish tasted very fresh, and it was a nice size. The roll was not cheap, it was $25 but I do think I got what I paid for. My friend chose to get the egg Benedict, and she said, it was actually pretty tasty. It just took a while for our food to come out. Then we were trying to get my friend's birthday dessert, but it also took a long time for our waiter to come back to our table. He finally did, and we chose to get the butter cake, it was different than what I have had before, it tasted more like sweet cornbread with ice cream but I ate it. Overall the experience was ok, glad the food was good, not crazy about the service. For a brunch item and an appetizer, and a drink flight each, we were there for about an hour and a 1/2. The establishment has a nice patio but major renovations are needed for the booth seats. They are all ripped up so we put the napkin down since my friend had on shorts. Food: The angry edamame was delicious and had a real kick to it. The potstickers were flavorful along with the green beans. Avocado egg rolls could have been fried a bit harder. My friend enjoyed the fried rice but stated he could have went without the pineapple. Service: Our server was nice but didn't have good service. She never refilled our drinks or checked to ask how the food was. When she came back to the table to bring more food she never took away the empty plates. It wasn't the best service but the kicker was when we paid and I selected the option for 18% gratuity we were charged 21%. I decided to do the math on my own because I had been seeing videos on social media on how the automatic payment machine options were charging more. I I for ed the host about what took place and I am not sure if she wasn't understanding the issue but she kept stating the gratuity options are optional. I stated I was aware of that (obviously) but I was charged incorrectly. Instead of going back and forth I asked to speak to the manager she then stated "you want to speak to the manager for that" as if my concern wasn't valid. My family took me to Kona for Mother's Day yesterday. Service was *terrible.* Our appetizer didn't come until the *part* of the main entrees arrived - 45 minutes after ordering. Two members of our family got their main entrees along with the appetizer, but the rest of us (4 people) had not received our entrees 25 minutes later, after waiting 45 minutes before that. Eventually, the two whose food had arrived finished their entrees but the rest of us still sat without our food. We canceled our orders that had not come and asked for the bill. The waitress was young and inexperienced, did not stop by the table to give us updates on our order. Other tables around us who arrived after we did were served before us. Way too expensive a restaurant for horrible service. When I asked where our appetizers were after 25 minutes, the waitress apologized but did not bring out the appetizers. Some other lady came to our table to explain that the kitchen was in mahem - she said waiters were taking food for orders from the kitchen without checking the food against a tickets. She offered us 2 coupons for free desserts and could she bring out a dessert for us? I replied that we hadn't eaten our main courses yet as they had not arrived. We paid for the food 2 of our family received - way overpriced - ($75 for 2 plates and an appetizer) and left. Will not return. read more

Fresh sushi and Hawaiian coffee! Say less! The coffee was flavorful, and aromatic. They bring caramel syrup on the side so you can sweeten it as much as you can. It's a really thick syrup. I got a poke bowl. You can pick a rice or salad base. The sushi is lit on fire, which is pretty cool. It's a convenient location in the mall. I've given this place multiple chances but it just is not good. Waited at the bar for a long time while bartenders walked back and forth passing us multiple times... it was honestly super irritating. One bartender finally noticed us and helped us out, she was kind, just sucks we had a horrible start & honestly just bad experiences here in general. We wanted to order more than just one drink each & maybe some food, but no thanks. There's multiple restaurants to choose from at NorthPark Center, I encourage you to choose one of them. read more

Love the calamari here! It comes with charred shishito peppers and these sweet lil red peppers. For the main I had the chopped salad and added macadamia nut chicken it was incredible!!! My husband had the salmon sushi roll he really enjoyed. Only reason for four stars is due to the service. Our server was very inattentive rarely coming by the table. My husband was without chopsticks and soy sauce for about 15 minutes after the food was dropped off. It can get busy at times here, especially with spontaneous mall traffic, but the wait usually isn't too long. Their happy hour food is great from the crab crunch roll, to the bbq chicken flatbread, and I've also had their KG sliders.
