Hello fellow Yelpers and Yeplettes, Good day to you and I hope this review helps in your Yelp adventures. 1. The restaurant is located in Snider Plaza. Which is known for great shops, and so fourth. Parking near Half Shells is tricky as there isn't much parking in front but...there is a nice parking garage that is free though. If you go on the weekend it's usually free. It's right by SMU campus so you need to think if there is a sports event going on. 2. The food is decent but this is under whelming. 3. The stench of sewage when you walk in is overwhelming. Which makes sense there were only about 6 people in the resturant. Would I go back yes but not until management gets the sewage aroma worked on. As always, your mileage may vary. It gives old school diner vibes. Family friendly and in my case a perfect after "Sunday Funday" eat at the bar vibes. I considered myself a crab cake connoisseur and love trying new ones at all restaurants. The crab cake was seriously MEATY deliciousness. I was seriously shocked. The spicy shrimp is by far AMAZINGLY good. The flavor was perfect! Our server Rudy was ON IT! It was a pretty big group at the bar and you could tell he had experience and great attention to detail. Foodie Alert! To all my seafood lovers, start your weekend with Half Shells Oyster Bar & Grill. It's an intimate, low-key, casual vibe spot. They have an excellent appetizer selection; I loved their calamari. It is very crispy and not chewy, and it's paired with a sweet dipping sauce and aïoli. And their drinks weren't too bad either; their Tito's Front Porch lemonade is the kind that will sneak up on you later on. The service was great! However, I do have one con, that is there were a lot of gnats flying around our food. It was was a little irritating, and it was hard to truly enjoy the food because we were constantly fanning them away from us. So I'm giving them 3/5 stars. 5 stars for service/ 1.5 for some of the food. I want to start by saying that service was great. We had a server named Margaret who said she was new. She was excellent though. The rest of my party ordered boiled crawfish, which was was fresh, well seasoned and excellent. My food is a totally different story I ordered a blackboard item, Surf and Turf tacos, which was supposed to be steak and shrimp. It was just terrible and almost inedible. I would have sent it back but my daughter would have been mortified. 1) the food was cold. 2)the tortillas were tough and stale with a plastic consistency. almost crunchy. 3) there was ONE shrimp in each taco (two tacos) and that one shrimp was mushy and tasteless 4)the steak...the meat was crusty and hard like beef jerky and unchewable. Overall it was Just awful. I don't understand how this place keeps getting good reviews except for when they have fresh crawfish. We live close by and my husband loves to come here but this is the 4th time the food I've ordered was not even decent. You can do better Half Shells. read more

Not having been to Half Shells in three years since I've been away, it was nice to return to Dallas and see Half Shells not only survived Covid, but they are thriving. Food in a busy Friday night was as good as I remembered it, and the service was friendly and efficient. We started with a dozen peel & eat shrimp and oyster nachos for appetizers, they did not disappoint. Entrees of bacon wrapped shrimp and scallops, and shrimp tempura tacos were cooked to perfection. My partner and I spontaneously walked in this place while looking for dinner options in Snyder Plaza because the menu on the outside of the building looked intriguing. It's a charming small seafood restaurant with a "hole-in-the-wall" vibe. We sat in the booth and was promptly greeted by a nice young gentleman. I was very impressed to find roasted jalapeno soup on the menu (rare and hard to find in DFW!) and that their house salad consisted of blue cheese, vinaigrette and pecans! My partner ordered the grilled chicken, sausage, red beans and rice. We finished with the chocolate addiction for dessert and it was the perfect ending to a wonderful meal. I have been coming here for years and I always order the same thing, this time the price was not the usual 15.99 and was instead 17.99. I also received what I believe to be less than I usually get. Here is an older photo next to what I was served today for a $2 increase. You can form your own option but it looks to me like less. Maybe i'm crazy. Either way, there is nothing here worth a $2 increase. I guess i'm just disappointed. Here for a birthday celebration! I hadn't been here in a 6 years. The first challenge in this small shopping center is parking. We found a spot about 100 yards away between 2 Suburbans that were over filling their spaces. I let out the passengers of my compact car so I could park to at least let me squeeze out. Not a knock on this establishment, but in this day and age of smaller spaces, be aware there are many huge SUVs and huge pickups in this lot! This is a quaint restaurant with a small bar, a few sport TVs and a outdoor patio along the side. It holds a lot of patrons for such a small, cozy space. The reputation for quality seafood goes back many years. They are famous for setting up days where part of their profit is donated to a local charity as well as publicizing that charity for the day. We were warmly and endearingly greeted by their young host and offered our choice of tables. The specials were easily seen on the well lit Daily Specials board plus were covered in more detailed by Luis, an exceptionally great server! Drinks were out to us in no time as well as a basket of crackers and butter. On my check, we ordered a round of their house salads, a full order of the Alabama Farm Raised Catfish, fried, (for me of course) and the birthday girl ordered the Fried Shrimp and Oyster combo. Once the food arrived, no photos were taking as hungry bellies took charge. I did think about taking pictures of the empty plates. No seafood was left behind! The catfish was perfectly fried. Moist, flaky and full of sweet catfish flavor! The shrimp and oysters were okay. The oysters were small and the shrimp was somewhat rubbery. Great flavors for both, but not typical of previous encounters. For desert, we had the Homemade Bread Pudding with whiskey caramel sauce which was absolutely filling, tasty and sweet! Price was somewhat high, but worth it for a special occasion. Luis was a super server and was attentive and his timing was perfect! His service to us made the meal! read more

My boyfriend and I love fresh oysters and seafood so finding this place was jackpot! all the oysters were super fresh and really big both of our dishes were also very delicious and we were so satisfied.
