Wanted to love this place because it has cheap cocktails, a dog friendly patio, and sports BUT unfortunately it wasn't in the cards for us. The slowest service imaginable, steak and burger cooked to oblivion, and just overall a terrible experience. Went in for a light lunch and this place did not disappoint. It was a Saturday pretty close to opening time and just about had the whole place to ourselves. Waters were delivered just as we got seated. The menu is a qr code. They had the full menu and brunch in action. Our servers were quick to come by and check on us. I ordered the korean pork lettuce wraps and my wife got the Caesar salad with added crispy chicken. It came in a reasonable amount of time. The lettuce wraps were flavorful from the pork, but the cucumber and carrots didn't have any seasoning or picking to they. Just sliced which i think was a missed opportunity. They were good and petty satisfying. My wife had the salad which she said was good but didn't really have any flavor. We like a good anchovy base so this may be perfect if you don't. The chicken came out pretty dark but it was still plenty juicy. My only real complaint is it was so dark inside. I had to take my photo in night mode. Not that big a deal but I like to see what I'm eating. We will be back to try more. It all looked so good. read more

This is a very good Bar & Grill in the Lakewood area. We were looking for someplace to get a relatively quick bite to eat and decided to give Hillside a try. The food was great, and the menu is more than just traditional bar food. They have a full bar with some good craft cocktails and lots of beer on tap. We ate inside and the crowd noise made it very difficult to carry a conversation. Our waiter was also "in the weeds" so things took a little longer than we anticipated. I used to love coming here, but lately it's been clear that management doesn't value their customers or staff. I work nearby, so it's always been a convenient happy hour spot. However, when more coworkers join, they automatically add a 20% gratuity -- even when everyone pays separately -- without saying anything beforehand. I wouldn't mind if the service matched the charge, but it's consistently declined. Servers seem untrained, orders are slow or incorrect, and the staff gets defensive if you politely mention an issue. On our last visit, the manager even singled out someone in our group over a past complaint (even though that person had never said anything before), which was awkward and unprofessional. We've emailed and called the restaurant to share feedback and never received a response. The manager even admitted the owners "don't care" because they live far away. Then she stated that the server we had had been fired anyway- and that should make us happy. That really says it all. I'll miss the Old Fashioned and the wings, but the rest of the food isn't great, and the prices aren't worth the frustration. We gave them several chances, but after repeated poor service and the automatic gratuity added without transparency, we won't be back. read more

Hillside Tavern has gone seriously downhill under the new management. The gratuity policy feels random and unclear, and when we asked about it, Melody, the manager, acted bothered and totally uninterested in helping. The drinks taste like they came straight off an early-2000s Fridays menu--sweet, outdated, and not worth the price. And the food is way too salty and ridiculously expensive for being so basic. This used to be a solid neighborhood spot, but the quality has dropped fast. Big disappointment. read more

Hillside Village is a staple in the neighborhood. The service is personalized and the servers/bar staff are amazing. They remember you and actually take a vested interest in you as a person. Hillside was recommended by a friend. I'm so glad we gave it a try. We had an amazing dinner. The Hillside Wedge is off the charts. I've never experienced a wedge salad that looked so beautiful and tasted so delicious. My friend had the grilled chicken salad which she said was amazing. We shared the garlic wings and the onion rings. Both were very good. My initial thought is that the food is a little pricey, so I hope it's worth it. The taste and presentation matched the cost. With the unexpected beautiful weather in Dallas today, the couch at Hillside Tavern just inside the from the sunny patio was the perfect spot to enjoy a glass of wine with a friend and celebrate the holidays a little more. Eventually, we ordered lunch. The Tate Farm burger was a winner on a nice gluten free bun. The quality meat cooked up well and was perfectly complimented by the onion jam and aioli. We shared some tater tots that were savory, fresh, and had the great mouth feel that you get with a crisp exterior and soft inside. My friend had the chicken quesadilla and said the tortilla was fresh and perfect with melty, gooey cheese and plenty of chicken. The guacamole and pico de gallo were fresh and tasty. Making the time even more enjoyable was the excellent service. So often, when you go to a restaurant at an off hour like the midafternoon, the rhythm is off and the service suffers. Not so here. The bar tender and busses kept everyone well taken care of with attentiveness without being overbearing. The kitchen was clearly in sync too as our meal was delivered in a timely manner. My only complaint is that I'm a bit limited in what a can order because of my allergies, but if I'm in the mood for a great burger, sandwich, or salad, I'm good to go. Staff is very pretentious. Food is SALTY, coming from someone who puts salt on everything. I had the chicken Caesar wrap, $18.00 (a spinach tortilla, some lettuce and a chicken thigh that was totally over seasoned and not properly deboned, and I literally choked on the bone) and a 16oz Miller lite, $7. First of all, if you're going to charge me $18 for a "wrap" it needs to be unquestionably good. Second, $7 for a draft domestic beer is a little outrageous. I am grateful actually that the waitstaff wasn't attentive enough to offer a refill. I totally would've taken the bait without thinking to ask pricing. The place is fairly cluttered up with couples in their 50s sipping their overpriced Sauvignon Blanc and looking down their nose at you while doing so. I'm assuming a lot of what's detailed above is by design to keep the riffraff out, or to price certain demographics out of the equation.. Not saying they are racist, but not everyone can afford to go here and have a simple grilled bologna sandwich and a beer. Oh, wait. It's mortadella.... And champagne pricing on Miller Lite -_- So all and all $35.00 with tip for a wrap that I'd rate 3 out of 10 best case, and (should be) Cheap beer that isn't quite cold enough for outrageous prices. Love this place. My favorite spot for lunch/dinner, grab a HH beer or meet buddies for a game. Great atmosphere! But the idea that the mortadella roll has any chance to replace the Hillside Grinder, is insanity. I gave it a try bc everything I've ordered here is great. Not terrible, but definitely a 1 and done order. Especially seeing as how it is replacing what I consider one of the best sandwiches on the planet. Let's go back to the drawing board team! Sitting here enjoying my Old Fashioned and bowl of French Fries watching the world go by on an amazing patio. I couldn't ask for any other way to end my long day of work and some stress, but at Hillside. Came here after passing it for a while on the way to work in Garland. So glad I stopped as from the door to the table to the bar everyone is so nice and boasts a relaxing atmosphere. With blues playing it is so easy to sip and enjoy everything they have to offer. Unfortunately it was a miss for me with the fried bologna sandwich, but the patty melt they brought instead was so amazing! It came on Texas Toast and was stuffed with tons of peppers and onions. Oh so melty, gooey, and good! And my waiter was so nice and kind about everything especially since I was so indecisive in the beginning about my food and drink orders. The General manager Stephanie has zero personality. Came in with my kids for a celebration dinner and had the poorest service ever. Not sure if she was on her phone or in the back drinking but she took forever to come ask if we needed anything. She is extremely rude and I will never come back as long as she is working there. There are so many nicer employees who could do a better job. I would fire her. Customer service is everything and she has the worst I have ever seen in a general manager. We had not idea it was $14.00 just for a burger and no fries. The fries were an additional $6 and were not kid friendly. The server did not give any suggestions or entail on what we were ordering. Update: I'll never be back at this establishment based solely on the poor service. My husband, 2 friends, and I went for brunch today. The restaurant wasn't busy whatsoever. Server was extremely slow and didn't refill waters. She also didn't ring in my husbands food and blamed the kitchen saying they overlooked the second burger but it would be out immediately. 20 min later, husband gets up to talk to a manager. The bartender says there MIGHT be a manager there and my husband walks away back to our table. The bartender proceeds to come out and confront my husband saying there was a mix up since ppl at our table were sharing (we weren't sharing). We let him know the server told us a different story. He said his food was fired up as soon as it was noted. A 6oz smash burger doesn't take longer than 20 min to make. His burger came out an hour after we arrived. The bartender said again that he thought the chef and "Allie" were managers and continued arguing with my husband stating that since we are industry he should be more understanding. We are both 20+ year industry veterans and this is not how you handle your mistakes. The food here isn't good enough to carry terrible service. Turns out "Allie" was our server. Never once apologized, still never refilled waters, and didn't take care of the check until we pointed it out. Found this place on accident and surprised I've never noticed it since I go to a nearby restaurant frequently. As soon as my son and I walked up, I loved the laid back vibes. I ordered the espresso martini, which I loved and the doughnut sliders on the brunch menu. Holy heavenly goodness, those were fantastic! After months of drooling as this place was installed slowly inside this strip mall, it opened and we went! We delayed our hunger for a few days for the kinks to get worked out. There is a lot of parking, but there are some other popular venues, so be prepared to walk a short distance! As we climbed up the steps, we opted to dine inside instead of on the porch as I wanted to see in! (Not much of a view on the porch.) Once inside, there is a bar to the right, lots of tables and conversation pits surrounded by couches. We found the last open table for two towards the back. The tables are small and more for drinks than large meals. You'll get to know those on the tables near you! The AMI internet connected jukebox had a sign and said it wasn't ready, but they did have some decent music playing in the background. Lots of TVs with multiple sporting events to go along with nice decor. Even a couple of hunting trophies on the walls! The service was OUTSTANDING! Very attentive and very helpful. The menu is full of great sounding items! We started with a couple of beers. A Blue Moon (that was barely cool in temperature) and a can of Michelob Ultra. I do not like drinking out of a can as I taste the aluminum and think it flavors the beer as well. There are places for canned beer and a "not cheap" pub is not that place. I was eventually offered a cold glass. I switched to iced tea and my date had another nearly cold Blue Moon. We ordered a 3 Cheese Pimento Cheese Dip to begin. Not a lot of dip, lots of seasoned crackers and lots of delicious pickles! It was the best item we would order! The dip was really good but the consistency made it tough to stick on crackers. I ordered the patty melt with a salad and my date ordered the Muffaletta with onion rings. The Muffaletta could have used more olive salad/Tapenade. It was decent, but not full of flavor. The rings were plentiful but nothing special as the dark golden batter was somewhat bland. They were somewhat greasy and I was not fond of the oil's flavor. The salad was full of colorful spring mix. Very stem filled and I definitely got my fiber! Patty melt looked wonderful! The patty was small and almost lost in the golden toasted bread. The toasted bread was very moist/greasy (too much butter/margarine/beef fat?) and the cheese was outstanding! The flavor was good but way too much pepperoncini! We ordered a bread pudding to go. It was the worst bread pudding ever. A small expensive hard crusty slice with a berry sauce and a scoop of vanilla ice cream. The berry sauce was okay and the ice cream was pretty good. Somewhat expensive and not sure if we will go back. Maybe it was the newness, but this is from a restaurant group that has some other highly rated establishments that should expect better. read more

I met a friend here by just luck of the drawl and, boy, was I glad we did! It was packed full, so we grabbed a seat on one of their many couches. We were greeted instantly by our server who go drinks out quick. They were well made and tasted great. We both ordered food and was it so very tasty!
