Came in before a concert at the Meyerson. Ate on the patio as the weather was perfect. Service was quick and attentive. Food was out beyond fast! The fish was perfectly cooked and seasoned. The chips were mid quality and sparsely distributed on the tray. Tiny amount of coleslaw was crispy tender and very good. read more

So the playwright irish pub is centered in the arts district of dallas. While not necessarily a traditional Irish pub, it is very nice on the inside. They have a good selection of beers. Now they do have a broad selection of Irish whiskeys plus various beers, ales and liquors. They feature a good selection of hamburgers and sandwiches. Now they do have scotch eggs as well. Service was good. They also validate parking for the attached lot. Nice!! read more

Was visiting the area so I thought id bring the fam to try our local watering hole. Everything here is pretty delicious including all the drinks from the tap or bar. Service was quick and our waiter was super attentive. The price point was perfect whether you're here for lunch, brunch or a meal any time of the day. The venue has plenty of food options from starters to a filling meal. Try the bread pudding... it's sooooo good. I love the cozy feel of this venue. They have both an indoor and outdoor seating option. I prefer sitting indoor because I am mesmerized by the bar area. When you're in the area... stop by here. They have menu specials for everyone. I was downtown and got asked to leave the DMA (see that review too). Wandering Flora and I came across this little spot in front of the Arts Plaza building. I was being healthy so I had a salad and a mule. Both excellent! And then I broke down and tried the bread pudding. Home run!!! I figured I would walk some extra to counterbalance it. Great ambiance, good beer and whiskey selection, friendly service, clean dining room and restroom. Very cozy feel. Fish and chips were really great. We split the single order and wish we'd ordered the double. Only concern is that service was a bit slow, but they were absolutely packed and seemed short staffed. Service was a little slow . Soup was cold , sandwich was soggy. Shepherds pie was really good.

The ambiance is intimate and very much a pub. I enjoyed a delicious potato soup and side salad - it was both flavorful and fresh - with a side of brown bread. Others at the table had the Irish Nachos, a Jameson burger, the Tomato Basil soup and the salmon salad. Even the kids Mac and cheese looked good. The service was prompt and attentive. Quant, cozy pub with a mix of traditional Irish Fare and American dishes and sandwiches. Visiting Dallas for a few days and already have been here twice!! Welcoming staff, hot well prepared food and an atmosphere reminiscent of pubs in Ireland. Location caters to the arts crowd but they are completely unprepared to handle that crowd. 2 waitstaff and the manager trying to serve 75-100 patrons. 6:20 arrival for an 8:00 show and that was inadequate. 25 minutes to get our drink order and that was the manager taking pity on us. Food was tasty but we had only a few minutes left to eat after waiting an hour after ordering and we were still late to our show across the street. Choose a random time to eat here- even with a reservation, our concert meal was miserable. read more

Returned for another excellent experience! I continue to be impressed by the cocktails, they have the classics and some really nice unique options. This time I tried the vegetarian chicken sandwich, and I really liked it! I appreciate a "chicken" vegetarian option, as most pubs only have a "beef" option, and I would order this again. I came here with my two friends while visiting Dallas. We were in the mood for an Irish pub, and this is in walking distance of their apartment. I'm so glad we happened upon this spot! The vibe of the place is very chill, and the staff is amazing. Definitely ask for Mike to be your server! He was so funny and friendly. Hillary, the manager, was also really nice. We enjoyed our drinks with a warm soft pretzel + stone ground mustard/beer cheese. My friends who live nearby insist that coming here for drinks will be a common occasion from now on. I have been to many Irish Pubs all over the world and I have a few favorites. Playwright Irish Pub is in the top 3. This pub is a local hangout and centrally located to downtown. It is a fun and inviting place to eat and drink. The fish & chips are some of the best I've had anywhere in the world. I think the reason this pub is so good is because of the manager Hilary. She is very professional yet approachable and obviously in control of the entire operation. She is also very crafty and funny. I would highly recommend this pub whenever you are in downtown Dallas. read more

Went to brunch across the street and had the pleasure of coming into this spot for some drinks. Our first server was Ariel and she was very nice and provided excellent service. She gave us some great selections on drinks. We had to go pick up out keys from the valet so we left and came back. When we came backe Ariel's shift was ending and Troy came over to introduce himself and take over our table. Troy was equally as amazing as Areil and he provided some great spots to check out. Troy also told is about their brunch and encouraged is to come back in and try it out on another weekend. Definitely will come back to try out the food since we only had drinks. Also the bathrooms were super clean. Great service, reasonably priced drinks, and great menu items makes this place a must try if you are in the area. read more

While waiting for our table at Yolk for brunch we stopped inside for a drink at Playwright. What a great Irish Pub. The setting was very much like a real Irish Pub. The food menu looked good, as did the Irish Wiskey, Scotch and beer offerings. Ok came for the first time on a VERY BUSY NiGHT. Was told at the bar they couldn't sell us a beverage w/o is sitting in a seat? Place was packed so no seats to be found ..hubs said let's try another place but before we could leave Allison found us and informed us it was a VERY unusually busy night and she was so sorry that they couldn't serve us because they had a 45min wait but outside she would be able to serve us ASAP. It was cold but she said they had a heater so we decided to give them a shot. We are so glad we did! Tim was a great server and the drinks (happy hour daily 4-7!) where great . I had an Irish car bomb and it was really good (I'll let them tell you how to drink it ) Food looked great but we where just stopping in for a quick drink. They had a HUGE scotch and Irish whiskey menu and a cool scotch and chocolate option that changes about every 6 weeks. About as Irish as McDonald's. Friendly staff, food on the low end of "just ok". Couldn't even show Ireland v France in the Six Nations tournament. Weak. Lots of Irish beer advertising on the walls, but feels very contrived. The spirits selection is about as extensive as your average Specs. read more

Portions are huge. Service attentive. My boyfriend said it was some of the best fish and chips he has ever had.

My daughter and I went to see a musical at the Windspear theater and just happened across this diamond of a restaurant!! We saw that they were serving brunch and so we took our chances. The atmosphere was wonderful and the staff was extremely helpful and kind! We had the pretzels and vanilla latte (pictured), but what I didn't take a picture of were the Waffles, the Lamb Stew, and the Grapefruit mimosa. Everything we tried was delicious and more than enough for a mom and daughter team that we had left-overs! If you are in the Dallas area, I'd recommend coming to this Irish Pub!! We visited this charming pub in Downtown Dallas after seeing my cousin perform in Phantom of the Opera. We were myself, husband, mom, dad, and my cousin. All 5 of us are Irish, so we had high expectations. The place was packed, and only one table was open...a low 4-top. We said we were 5 and were promptly told it would be 30 minutes; which we did not have as my cousin had another performance in a few hours. So we asked to sit at the low table, and could they grab us a chair. They had no more low chairs, but we could sit outside. A pleasant thought and one we would have entertained had there not have been hurricane-force winds at the time. So, since no other solution was forthcoming; we had already paid $6 for parking; time was short; and we are hungry, I grabbed a pub table chair and sat upon that, surveying my kingdom. I think the female wait-staff was none-to-pleased, and I felt somewhat in their way, but, I felt we had no real choice. We waited about 5 or 6 minutes...no one came to give us menus so my husband grabbed some. No one acknowledged we were there and no one came to take drink orders. Finally, we were saved by Tim. He was cordial and funny; very welcoming. Oh, and cute, too. He took our orders and we settled in. He did everything he could to make us feel comfortable. ;) Two of our party had the corned beef sandwiches; two had the fish and chips; I had the shepard's pie. Each enjoyed his meal immensely. We had a great time and would definitely return. Well...we were a bit unnerved by the Alfred Hitchcock Dallas version of birds as we exited the pub!!!! read more
