Shrimp & Pork Shui Mai 北菇燒賣
Raymond M.

The pork and shrimp siu mai was well seasoned with a slight juicy snap to the texture. The crispy taro puffs were also good, with a light, crispy exterior and a dense filling. The honey walnut shrimp was tasty, although I wish the portion was more generous. The liu sha bao was soft and fluffy with a creamy custard filling. The roasted suckling pig had a crispy skin, but I didn't enjoy the flavor since it was too herby and heavily spiced. The calamari was okay and wasn't as crispy as I expected. The Chinese broccoli was too firm and undercooked.

I was so impressed with the 10 course menu at Koi Palace tonight. We attended a friend's wedding and there were 10 tables, about 100 people. The bride and groom mentioned how easy it was to coordinate the menu selection with the restaurant. They said the restaurant manager was also very accommodating of the wedding party bringing in desserts and drinks from outside vendors offering to help set up as needed. Every dish I thought was on point tonight, from the crab and fish maw soup, suckling pig, to the Peking duck, seared filet mignon beef, to the steamed ginger scallion fish. All other guests I spoke to really enjoyed the food tonight as well. The staff was very efficient in getting out the food on time, allowing us to finish most dishes before bringing out the next one.

"An 18% service charge will be applied to each bill. This charge is not a gratuity; it is retained by management to cover operational costs, including providing employees with fair wages and benefits." That is ridiculous. They charge you an automatic 18% service charge that management keeps. In what world is it the customer's responsibility to pay for the operational costs of the business? If that 18% is so needed, just increase the prices on the menu instead of scamming people with a tiny sign next to the register that you only see AFTER eating.

Came here for a special birthday and helped set up. We had a room in the back. Food was amazing but service was lacking. We ordered a special set menu that included peking duck, special shrimp egg rolls, wagyu shaking beef, and more! The food definitely feels clean and unique vs some other places. As for service - we were a little disappointed that gratuity was included but we didn't get much actual service. In either case - if you're looking for solid chinese food...would still recommend this place. Food was 5/5, Service was 2/5.

Best dim sum in the area, team lunch and it's so crowded. Big venues, of course, best for weddings as well. So loud, typical Chinese restaurant and environment lol. I love coming here for dim sum , Singapore noodles and pecking duck.

Reservations necessary! ESP during weekends, holidays, such as Father's Day. It was crazy madness in there, reservations were at 12 but was seated at 1245. The host Leslie managed the crowd very well! What we ordered Chicken feet, black bean spare ribs, shrimp dumplings, soup dumplings, shrimp rice roll, bbq pork rice roll, Chinese broccoli, honey walnut prawns, bbq pork buns, XO sauce stir fried rice rolls, stewed beef gizzards, fried rice, salt &pepper squid, Peking duck We definitely over ordered and had loads of leftovers. The highlights were the chicken feet, honey walnut prawns, sat & pepper squid, and the bbq pork steamed rolls. Every item came out fresh, hot, clean, and tasted really nice. No overwhelming MSG after effects nor taste. Our server Will was very helpful. We tipped cash but paid by card, accidentally totaled max tip into the receipt total but he made sure to clarify with us before charging. We appreciate the honesty! Our busser was really helpful too, cleared the table and got us everything we asked for Have been here many times and will continue to! Definitely worth the visit for quality Cantonese dishes!!

Pork's bone and duck wing's bone

Food is ok but no services, for over 20 minutes, no one pick up the dish with bones, and no server came to ask how the food was or do you need anything else, disappointed

I love Chinese food but I left Koi Palace feeling very disappointed. We were a party of 6 and we all arrived at 10:45am. We checked in the front desk and we were given a ticket with a number. As we are waiting, tables for parties of 7 or 10 and 11 were being fulfilled. I checked in twice to ask about our group of 6 and she was very rude and snobby as she informed me that large parties were being seated first. We had been waiting for an hour and they were not calling anyone for party of 6. So ridiculous. After waiting for 1.5 hours, we were finally seated and guess what? The table that we were seated at has 7 seats -- I looked at the other tables that were empty and they also had 7 seats -- meaning that at any point when a table for 6 or 7 was available, we, party of 6, could have been seated but she chose not to seat us and have us wait. Once we were seated, everything moved rather quickly. We were given a menu to order -- we ordered and within 10-15 minutes, everything was brought out to us. No wait time for the food, it was very fast. The food was decent but nothing memorable. Overpriced dim sum, overpriced food. As much I love Chinese food, I don't see myself coming back to this location because the wait times are crazy even if you come early. And second, the two women at the front counter are very rude, provided very poor customer service. Very annoyed and disappointing experience, wouldn't recommend to anyone.

This is one of the best seafood and dim sum restaurant in the bar area . It was established in 2014 . People love to come here for wedding banquet because it is big enough to host many tables . My friend was hosting a Chinese New Year dinner banquet and they reserved the CNY menu for the year of the house . A private room and server was assigned to the group .There were 12 dishes with good blessings to the name of each dish . Then one seafood fried rice and 3 desserts at the end . 1) Whole suckling pig with crispy skin. ( this is the star of the dinner ) Koi Palace's signature dish 。乳豬全體 2) beef filet Hong Kong style 中式牛柳 3 braised bird's nest soup with crab meat and fish mew 蟹肉花膠燕窩羮 4) Peking Duck 5) braised abalone with dried oysters, black moss, and large dried scallops stew 鮑魚發財好市大瑤柱甫 6)Braised sea cucumber , goose webs & shiitake mushrooms 海參鵝掌炆冬菇 7)second portion of the suckling pig ( tender meat ) 乳豬二度,豬籠入水 8) poached pea sprouts , bamboo pith, goji berries in fish broth 魚湯杞子竹笙大豆苗 9)steamed imperial chicken 貴妃雞 10) lobster meat in egg white 白雪藏龍 11)steamed live grouper fish 清蒸石斑 12)crispy rice noodle with lobster 龍蝦肉煎米粉 13) yin yang fried rice( white sauce seafood & red sauce chicken ) 鴛鴦炒飯 14)red bean soup 15) water chestnut cake 馬蹄糕 16)Longevity lotus seed bun 壽包。

We ordered a lot of food here and most were decent. Very chinese dim sum banquet hall place kinda vibe. It gets really packed tho!!

This spot is well known for their seafood and duim sum for lunch. We arrived about an hour before closing and the service was super quick and efficient! We ordered the crispy noodles with mixed seafood, honey walnut prawns, hot and sour soup, and pork buns. Everything tasted great and the portion sizes were more than enough for two people. It definitely feels like a good place to come with a bigger group so you can try more dishes. It is on the pricier side for a Chinese restaurant, but the food quality and service made it worth it.

Amazing Dim Sum. One of the best in the Bay Area. Gratuity is included and tea you have to pay for. Not typical of a classic dim sum establishment but it is what it is after all in this day and age in the Bay Area.

Whenever I have relative visit from Canada we will definitely have dimsum at Koi Palace, it's a ritual for my family. I have been coming here for years and this place is still popular likes the first time I ever dine-in here. Always so busy during their dimsum hours, wait time could take up to 1-1:30 hour on the weekend, so be prepared. Located on the 2nd floor of Milpitas Ulferts Center, you will need to take the escalator or elevator to reach the entrance. The hospitality and service here are all about speed and efficient, so make sure to order fast, eat fast, and leave fast lol. The restaurant itself is really spacious, very bright and clean, definitely suitable for big family and big group. People do wedding banquet here all the time. They also have live a seafood tank by the wall. Koi Palace food has been consistently good for years, my family always orders all the dimsum staple likes Hagao, Siumai, Xiaolongbao, Pork Ribs, Chicken Feets, Shrimp rice roll, and other side dishes. My favorite dimsum is the Chiu Chow Dumpling and Durian Puff, another item that I'm totally recommended is Hand Roasted Suckling Pig Slices from their BBQ section, literally the best roasted pork I ever had in the Bay Area. Koi Place definitely more on the expensive side of Cantonese food restaurant, but it came with great quality and fresh ingredients, totally worth it for special occasions likes family reunion in my case. The tea that they serve is good quality, I always go for Jasmine or Chrysanthemum to start my meal and clean my palette after. A great spot for dimsum, make me always looking forward for the next time my Canadian relative to visit.

No, this is all a la cart.

Does anyone know what Vegan dishes Koi palace serves? We were looking to book a banquet style dinner here but one of our guest is Vegan.

Not greasy at all, which is where a lot of places lose me. The BBQ combo platter (crispy roast pork +roast duck) is the other must-order. The siu yuk skin had that proper shattering crunch with juicy meat underneath, and the roast duck was silky with lightly crispy skin. Both dipping sauces on point. The clay pot chicken came out bubbling on its warmer, with red onion and scallion in a savory, slightly sweet glaze with salted meat -- great over rice. And the string beans with pork cheek had real wok hei, blistered beans with caramelized edges, not steamed-and-sauced like the lazy version. Portions are generous, everything came out hot, and this is exactly the kind of cooking that tastes like a family kitchen doing it right. Would come back for the fish fillet and the roast pork alone. They served sweet bean soup after dinner. Service was quick and ambiance is bright and causal.

It looks like they specialize in Rice Noodles, so definitely give those a try! Let me just say everything that you order here comes out steaming hot so it's not your usual cart dim sum style. This was something that I tried for the first time and really appreciated! Some of the things I tried: Steamed pork and taro chunks 4/5 The steamed pork was so juicy and flavorful. They also throw in some taro chunks which I don't typically see, but it was delicious. A classic dish that's definitely worth trying. Thousand year old egg congee 4/5 The congee here comes in a GIGANTIC bowl. This is definitely something to order if going in a party of 3-4. The congee has such a home feel to it and it reminded me a lot of my grandma's congee. This was delicious. The only thing I would ask for is, I wish they had black pepper here, because that would make this dish pop out so much more Egg Rice Noodle 3/5 I saw this and it looked interesting, but it wasn't anything I found special. It was good, but not sure if I would get this again. If you're a huge fan of eggs maybe this dish is for you! Shrimp and chives Rice Noodle 5/5 This was really good, and I would order this again. The shrimp was perfectly cooked and everything was so flavorful with that oyster sauce poured over the rice noodles. I enjoyed this dish a lot, and a perfect order if you're going in a party of 3. Shrimp and chives dumpling 5/5 This is pretty similar to the rice noodle dish. One thing that I have to note is the dumpling was very soft. I preferred this a lot, since my experience with this dish is many dim sum places tend to make the skin of this dumpling really hard. This made it more enjoyable to eat. Siu Mai (Ground Pork and shrimp dumpling) 5/5 This is probably my favorite dim sum order and they nailed this one! When you take a bite into that dumpling, it is so juicy. It carries an amazing scent when you take a bite into it and I didn't really ever notice this with other Siu Mai order's. A classic order, definitely would order this one again. Service 5/5 There service here is exceptional and staff is amazing. Extremely helpful, they brought out some chili oil for us since it wasn't on the table. Food came out exceptionally quick. Everything was awesome! One thing to note, this place is pretty small so you will have to wait outside if you are on the waitlist. Check this place out, definitely a top tier dim sum place if you are looking for quality and price. Everything is very cheap and they also offer affordable rice plates (around $12-13) if you were looking for a quick meal togo!

The food was okay, but the service was basically a DIY project. When the check came and I left a zero on the tip line, the woman handing it to me pointed it out and asked why I hadn't tipped. Luckily, she opened that door, so I had the chance to explain why the complete lack of service earned that zero: * We seated ourselves after someone shouted "your table is ready" from all the way across the dining room. * No one greeted us, checked on us, or ever claimed to be our server. * We placed the entire order ourselves through our phones. * Our water pitcher emptied after our first pour and sat there completely forgotten for the rest of the meal. * Staff repeatedly kicked and bumped the backs of our chairs every time they walked by. * An employee forgot to lock the bathroom door, and when my husband and son walked in, she actually scowled at my kid while washing her hands instead of apologizing for not locking it. If I'm seating my own family, handling our own ordering on a phone, and tracking down my own water, asking for a tip at the end is a pretty bold move. We won't be returning.

Our entire party consisted of 6 people and although there was a lot of hustle and bustle, we were able to be seated fairly quickly regardless of us not having reservations. I came here anticipating a wonderful experience and assumed I would be wowing my family with their very first visit with HL Peninsula Restaurant. While the visit was something they wouldn't soon forget, it wasn't exactly over something positive. Menus were provided and the young gentleman asked what kind of tea we wanted. We responded with the typical "chrysanthemum" and went on with viewing the menu. We meticulously wiped down the dinnerware and the tea pot arrives. Cups are filled and a bug is found floating in one of the cups. Since there were a few gnats flying about in the restaurant, I just assumed the gnat landed in the cup and died. I flag an employee and hand off the cup while requesting for a new one. New one arrives and I fill it up with tea. Again, THERE IS ANOTHER BUG. AT THIS POINT I KNOW FOR A FACT THAT THE BUGS ARE COMING DIRECTLY FROM THE TEA KETTLE. Our entire fam stopped drinking the tea and I am forced to flag down yet another worker- this time someone more higher up. The gentleman immediately nods his head and grabs the tea kettle. NO APOLOGY, NO QUESTIONING MY ALLEGATION, NOTHING!!! Another staff member comes out with another tea kettle of chrysanthemum and I immediately decline. I request to have jasmine instead. Good move on our part because the jasmine loose tea was not bug infested. Brunch consisted of: * SALT AND PEPPER CRAB [LIVE CRAB @ 2.2LBS] * PENINSULA HOUSE FRIED RICE * SWEET & SOUR SPARE RIBS W/ FRESH PINEAPPLES * A4 WAGYU BEEF + ASPARAGUS W/ BLACK PEPPER * SHRIMP DUMPLING * PORK AND CRAB ROE SIU MAI * CHRYSANTHEMUM TEA Food was honestly really good. The tea situation was terrible and it says a lot when the employees didn't even bat an eye about the bug complaint. He calmly nodded his head and took the tea kettle which tells me the staff knew there were bugs in there. The biggest issue is not receiving a simple "sorry" over the disgusting mishap and me knowing damn well that HL Peninsula Restaurant will continuously serve that bug infested loose chrysanthemum tea. Do better, y'all. With all the money that you guys make, you can manage dumping that bulk tea purchased from China.

There were only a few dishes I didn't like. Here is what our table ordered: Peking duck: 7/10 While I often enjoy Peking duck, especially with the fluffy bao buns, this Peking duck didn't taste quite as good as others I have had elsewhere. While it was crispy and rich, it didn't have a whole lot of flavor, which was a little disappointing because it got overpowered by the bao buns. Honey walnut prawns: 9/10 I'm a huge fan of honey walnut prawns, they are my favorite at any Chinese banquet lunch. While the flavor was on point for this dish, it lacked crispness despite being the second dish to arrive. Curry chicken: 10/10 Probably my favorite meal here. I don't see curry chicken being served often, but this was amazing. Rich and creamy broth, and the chicken was tender and thinly sliced. Would come back here just for this dish. Sweet and sour pork: 9/10 Another good dish, pork was tender and sauce had a good ratio of sweet to sour. Braised tofu with mushroom: 6/10 This was probably one of my least favorites. The tofu was almost little leathery on the outside, which gave a weird mouthfeel. Other than that, the sauce was alright, and the mushrooms were good. House combination pan fried crispy noodle: 10/10 I absolutely loved these! I really enjoy the noodles with a combination of crispy and drenched in sauce, and this dish gave exactly that. The noodles somehow stayed crispy for the duration of the dinner, which was great. Pan fried noodles with soy sauce: N/A Didn't try it, but it looked good! Salted fish with chicken fried rice: 7/10 While the flavor on the rice was pleasant, with a good mix in of vegetables and chicken, the fish was extremely salty. Each tiny chunk of fish was like a sodium explosion. I thought it was good if you eat around the fish. Pan fried string bean: 9/10 One of the better pan fried string beans I've had, and it even came with some sort of meat mince, which I wasn't expecting but was a cool surprise.

During our dine-in, there were many to-go orders. Both claypot rice dishes are excellent: - Chicken with dried Mushrooms and Chinese Sausage with Preserved Meat Combo Clay Pot Rice 北菇滑雞及腊味煲仔饭 - Salted Fish with Pork Clay Pot Rice 咸魚肉片煲仔飯 There's crispy rice at the bottom of the clay pots. The toppings on the rice are good. I can even smell the fragrance from the salted fish. They don't allow this salted fish with pork to be a combo (due to salted fish flavor) and it has to be ordered as a standalone claypot. Soy sauce is served on the side. We ordered two bowls of soup: - Watercress Stewed with dried Duck Gizzard 西洋菜炖陳腎 - Sea Coconut And Pear Stewed Wpork 海底椰雪梨炖瘦肉 Both soup are delicious. They're served piping hot and very flavorful. Unlike most soup are very salty, their soup isn't salty at all and they are tasty. For the Choy Sum veggies, it's also good and the chicken soup is delicious. It came with some chicken meat inside too. Highly recommended and will definitely go back. Note: Bring cash or pay with Venmo. They don't take credit cards. Golden Sun Palace is a solid dim sum spot in Milpitas. I hadn't been here in over five years, so…read moreI'm glad to see it's still around and that the food quality hasn't gone downhill. Service is pretty much what you'd expect from a typical dim sum restaurant. You'll probably need to wave down the staff when you need something, whether it's for the bill or asking for to-go boxes, but nothing out of the ordinary. The restaurant has plenty of seating and is pretty clean. The dim sum itself is good and slightly above average. What was a pleasant surprise today was their set meal, which comes at a very reasonable price. We got the lobster noodle along with five dim sum dishes of our choice. The lobster was fresh, and the noodles were delicious, and honestly a lot better than what I was expecting. For the price, I don't think many places can match the value. The location is also convenient, right in the Lion Supermarket plaza. You can easily do some grocery shopping before or after your meal, or grab some boba or tea nearby. Overall, a good dim sum spot with decent food, convenient location, and especially good value if you order the set meal. I'd definitely come back.

I was very unimpressed with the Xiao long baos because there was barely any soup in it and the wrap was thick and hard, as if they just reheated it. The shrimp rice noodle roll did not have the right texture and the sauce wasn't even slightly sweet how it usually is. The only thing that tasted somewhat ok was the shrimp balls because it was slightly crispy still. Would not come back. I'd rather go to koi palace or dough zone even. The price was ridiculously high too for this level of cooking. They still had the carts and the rude Asian ladies here so that brings back the authentic dim sum ambiance. But the wait to even check out was so ridiculous it took me 30 minutes. Had to just go to the front instead AND grab the togo boxes myself to pack.

We shared a bunch of items: steamed spare ribs, beef tripe, veggie & pork wraps in soy bean skin, deep fried tofu skin wraps with shrimp, beef rice noodle roll, cilantro rice noodle roll, marinated tofu, pan fried turnip cake with XO sauce, salted egg yolk pumpkin, pea sprout in supreme broth, preserved egg pork porridge, and beef chow fun. My favorites were the salted egg yolk pumpkin (piping hot with so much flavor), deep fried tofu skin wraps with shrimp (super crispy wrap), and preserved egg pork porridge (always a hearty, warm comfort dish). Food came very quickly and we were all stuffed and satisfied afterwards. Solid dim sum, no complaints, and would come back in the future.

This was a typical Cantonese style eatery where you would get together for family gatherings and/or to celebrate events. The decor had the usual elements that you would expect from such a place: crystal chandeliers, fish tanks, gold columns, and giant TV screens. We tried their 10-course banquet-style dinner that they were advertising for $488 (before tax) and I believe this special was only available on weekdays. Portion sizes were extremely generous, and they did not skimp on the ingredients either. The banquet courses included delicacies such as suckling pig, geoduck, whole fish, and lobster to name a few. This meal easily fed ten people, and we still had plenty of leftovers to take home. It was such a great value that towards the end of the evening the restaurant sold out of their banquet special. Overall, the food was pretty good...even though they did overcook the lobster. They have their own huge parking area, so it was super convenient. The dining area was very spacious. The service was casual and efficient. I went to dinner with no expectations, so I was pleasantly surprised. This place impressed my family that they even came back the next morning to try their dim sum.

It's open and bright and not too noisy, quite comfortable for a dim sum restaurant. Food was still very good. Everything was well made and delicious. Food came out at a good pace. The standouts in my opinion were their Siu Mai and Fried Taro and Meat Dumplings. I am usually not a big Siu Mai fan but theirs were very tasty and juicy and fresh-tasting. They did a great job frying the Taro Dumplings. They were not greasy and the oil used seemed fresh. Service was very attentive, professional, and friendly especially because I've known our waiter Alex for over twenty years! Prices are fair for Bay Area standards. It's a solid dim sum spot.
