Koco-Java is a quaint little coffee shop in the heart of downtown Salisbury. Whether you're looking for a quick coffee and pastry, or a spot to catch up with friends and watch life cruise by, this spot is a great place to sit and sip. Their drive-thru has a constant loop of cars and their parking is limited to about 15 or so spots. If you're looking to plug in and work, try to snag one of the high top tables along the wall, otherwise, outlets are limited. They have a a variety of different roasts but I was very concerned with the lack of a roasting date posted on each bag. There's no way of telling whether those coffee beans lined across the shelves are stale or fresh. The coffee bags are very affordable at about $15 per but again, you could be buying stale coffee beans. I ordered a latte with no flavors hoping to taste the coffee but it was overpowered by the excessive amount of milk. I basically drank milk with a slight hint of coffee. Seemingly, this place focuses more on trendy/viral flavors than the coffee itself which is great for their clientele! Not only are their specialty flavors and blended drinks on their regular menu but there was also a monthly drink special board at the front that included drinks like Tiramisu Latte and Gingerbread Oat. They're so busy in here that they don't collect your name, they just call out the drinks. I ordered a cheese danish that was just left at the counter without my knowledge. To my pleasant surprise, it was warmed up and was still warm when I finally got it. Another woman was also just waiting for her blueberry muffin but with 2 bags just sitting on the counter, we had to flag someone down to check the bags for us. Overall, I would still recommend this place unless any of the things mentioned are your pet peeves.

Loved it! To start, the parking lot is a decent size. You can also park along the street if it gets full. They offer a warm, cozy, and inviting atmosphere. The music was light (which I like so it's not overwhelming), and the variety was good. The dining area was clean and comfortable. The shop offers several seating options including a small patio, comfy armchairs, semi-booths, and high top tables. The service was great. You can tell the baristas are locals who care about and build relationships with their patrons. During my very brief wait, I observed them greeting everyone like an old friend. One staff member greeted a customer by name and correctly prepped his drink before the he ordered. It gives all the "close community" vibes. I tried the basic Chai Tea Latte and a bagel with cream cheese. Both were delicious. The bagel was especially surprising. It was the perfect blend of crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. And the blueberry flavor! I wish I lived closer. This would absolutely be my spot!

This was INCREDIBLE coffee. Absolutely a ton of flavor. I got their pumpkin fall flavor which was packed with different spices. They had a lot of different fall flavors and made sure they actually tasted like what you were ordering. The staff was very friendly and we got our coffee very fast. They have ample inside seating and it was very clean.

We stopped by koco Java during a food crawl day in Salisbury over the summer and it didn't even feel like we were in Salisbury. The interior was a sleek, bohemian style with lots of space for patrons. They had a huge menu full of items plus seasonal specials prepared hot, iced, or frozen so there's options for every kind of coffee drinker. They also have a gigantic casing full of pastries to go with their coffees. As if that wasn't enough, they have a whole section full of merch ranging from coffee mugs to tumblers with their logo. Next time I'm in the Salisbury area I'm definitely making Koco Java my stop for coffee!

Best latte ever. I had a latte(hot) with oat Mike. Really nice place to have a cup of coffee and rest. The service was so great. The sisters at the front desk were very friendly and inviting. Koco Java also provides a nice and cozy atmosphere and the music is light and nice.

The blackberry latte was a special and it was one of the best coffees I've ever had, hands down. It was sweet without being too sweet and man oh man, that cold foam really put it over the top. During a meeting in downtown Salisbury, a colleague recommended we walk to Koko Java during a break for some coffee. This unassuming coffee shop is warm, inviting, and lovely inside. The staff was friendly. With a few food options, multiple hot and cold choices of coffee and tea, and ample seating, the establishment was really a gem. The coffee was fantastic and inexpensive. I wish I had purchased a bag to go. I'll definitely be back.

I really like Koco Java and they have fast service which I was impressed with! Fastest place in town-or even compared to Charlotte. They have a huge variety of drinks to choose from. My only complaint, which is minor, is that everything is so sweet! All the lattes, that is. Even when I ask for less sweet, it's sometimes too much. Not a huge deal if you look at the friendly and fast service. Everyone that works here is VERY nice and helpful. I appreciate all of their hard work. They have small breakfast items and also smoothies. The smoothies have a great price point and I'd love to try them sometime. I will most certainly be back!!

First timer here. Visiting from California Not being a local, I asked Eric, the owner of the Skinny Wheels Bike Shop, where I could find coffee and he told me this place was "my jam" so I walked the 3-4 blocks from his shop to Koco Java to check it out Glad I did. Great coffee. Great prices. Great people. My only regret? I'd just eaten breakfast and even though the pastries looked amazing, I had to pass. I'm hoping to get another shot at them before I head home, UPDATE: Today is Monday-two days later. Enjoying a bike ride of several hours exploring around this beautiful town. Decided to stop back by cuz I had to try that cinnamon bun I'd seen... Wow! Is this a great find. They purchase them at a nearby Amish market and they are amazing. Coffee is way hot; just like I like it and this cinnamon roll to a great complement. Only bad news? Leave for home in California tomorrow

I've been here twice and have been pleased with their product. I'd like to see them using outdoor propane heaters and maybe a fire pit for outdoor ambience. The neighborhood, however, may not be conducive to that. It's proximal to the arts district, if you will, and serves those from the courthouse across the street best, I'm presuming. Spacious and accommodating. read more

A clean, comfortable, enjoyable environment. Best coffee in the town. Excellent bean choices and a knowledgeable staff. I have visited multiple times a week for nearly 5 months and notice that Koco Java is a site for many groups and regular customers. Great place to meet and share. The staff seems to focus on serving the customer promptly. The staff does not seem to focus on engaging in conversation or responding to casual conversation with the customer. This is not a negative but a note for those who enter expecting anything more than staff to respond with a courteous order fill. read more

Berta and Arturo always go out of their way to make their customers feel like family. And every single one of their coffee drinks are as wonderful as their service. The interior is cozy and welcoming, the perfect place to enjoy a mocha and a book. Trips to Salisbury just wouldn't be the same without this downtown staple. read more

I could write an essay on how good this coffee shop is, but let me just keep it simple. This is hands-down the best coffee and the best atmosphere you are going to find in or near Salisbury. I would also strongly recommend the very short extra drive if you are looking for a place to relax for a second and grab a drink while traveling down I-85. They are cheaper than Starbucks/DD and the quality is much higher. read more

Koco Java is the best coffee house around. Larger sized and better priced than Starbucks, and tastes better by far. My favorite is Mocha Caramel (hot or cold). But they have many wonderful flavors and the service is always second to none. I recommend Koco Java to friends and family all the time! read more

First of all, you smell the coffee roasting when you pull into the parking lot. That in itself is a foodie Nirvana! Then the friendly Thereckas, one or both of them, greet you and prepare you the smoothest cup of coffee you ever drank! The menu is delightfully simple and every item delicious. The Thereckas feature Nova Bakery items, plus the occasional special treat of Tiramisu or Fruit Cake (not your grandma's fruitcake!). Specialty fruit smoothies or iced coffee drinks or anything you want with whipped cream on top abound. Hot chocolate and hot apple cider are popular choices in the winter time. Go see Art and Berta Therecka! These folks have graciously supported TWO of my favorite charities in Salisbury: the Salisbury Rowan Choral Society and Prevent Child Abuse Rowan. First time visit to Koco today, what a treat. I live in Charlotte but decided to detour to Koco Java for a pick me up on my way back from Greensboro. I will definitely be stopping by more frequently when I head up and down I85. I met Arturo and Berta, very nice folks. I learned more from Arturo about coffee in 10 minutes than anyone has ever explained to me in the past. I learned what macchiato means (stained) and how the term originated. Arturo made me a fantastic macchiato, very robust. I also picked up a pound of their Papua New Guinea beans, I can't wait to brew them in my press. I like that they roast there on site, you can't get any fresher than that. Great place, very relaxing. For the Salisbury folks, please stop here rather than the Starbucks by the interstate if you are looking for a great cup of coffee. You would also be supporting local business which is always important. read more

I was a regular at Koco Java from the day it opened until we moved out of town. Whenever I visit Salisbury now I always stop in there and often meet friends there. I think they have the best coffee I've ever tasted. And they have great service, too. read more

I was in the coffee shop on a Tuesday afternoon on Apr 6th. As I was exiting out of the bathroom the store manager told me that I was not allowed to sit in the coffee shop without making a purchase first. I will never return to this coffee shop again. I have sat in other coffee shops to work on my laptop, I have never been told I needed to make a purchase prior to sitting down at the table. If this is rule then the owner should have signs posted on entrance doors in plain view for customers. I really felt this individual was being rude and discriminatory. read more

Great coffee, roasted on site that will not break your budget. Family owned and operated. It is so nice to walk in and they already know what I drink so they have it waiting on me. Our waitress was great looked after us and answered all our questions. When I go back to Salisbury, I won't hesitate to come here again.

My friend had a cinnamon crunch bagel with bacon, egg, and cheese, and said it was delicious! We ate every bite! It was also fast service! Four of us were able to place orders, eat, socialize, and get out in less than an hour. Super speedy! Minus one star because it is so smoky inside. They have a grill area where they cook, which is fine, but there is no hood/ventilation and so when they grill anything, the smoke just goes out into the restaurant. The four of us who ate there smelled like bacon smoke the entire afternoon. Will continue to eat from here, just maybe not inside until the ventilation sees an improvement.

Somewhat similar beers (I drink basically all kinds of beer from the occasional domestic/ basic beers to IPAs, stouts, and everything in between) so finding something that was like "oh let me try that" isn't really a thing here, but you'll find something you know/are probably ok with. Could be worse for sure. The service seems to have improved each time. I think the hired some more seasoned wait staff. Nothing wrong with newer people, just takes time to learn. I have tried something different each time, burger wise. All have been good. The fries are good. No clue what the person saying seemed fish related is talking about? They seemed to want fast food pace, in a place with a small kitchen? Food does admittedly take a while to get out, but is worth the wait to me.

Delicious coffee and pastries, great service, very personable owners! Definitely my favorite coffee place in Salisbury. The owners are always the ones serving you, so you get top quality service. They aren't just random employees like at most coffee shops, so they really care about their customers and want to give you a good experience and they will! I have never had a negative experience here. Love the regular coffee, lattes, specialty drinks, bagels, and especially the cupcakes, which are locally made and fresh. I go through the drive through on a regular basis, but the inside is super comfy and great for meetings or for getting some work done. I meet up with my girlfriends here for a chat, and I meet clients for business meetings here, too. read more

Hands down the BEST company / Customer service in the world ! I stop here daily because I work directly across the street . I work Monday through Friday and don't live in Salisbury , but I will drive to Salisbury just to get a coffee on Saturday. The coffee is unbeatable but the hospitality and genuine care that I receive from every single employee is unmatched. I am definitely a customer for life! read more
