Used to go here on Sundays after church with family. Became a tradition....Changed it from 5 star to one star. Only reason we went here was for the Crab Legs. Honestly not much to say about Kobe except it was pretty great for an AYCE Sushi place. Besides Sushi they also have Chinese Food and Mongolian BBQ for those who do not like Sushi. The Sushi is pretty good especially for the price and the decor doesn't look like a ghetto hovel like most buffets serving sushi do. I plan to be back next time I am in Modesto. read more

NO NO NO.. do not waste your money.. we spent $150 and basically between 4 people ate maybe a half plate of food... it was bad. . The one star is because the beer was cold. The salad was brown and wilted, the olives tasted like they sat in sea water for hours, the deserts were hard, the sushi could have quiet possibly been floating in the boats for days at a time and we would never know. I will say, this place has upped its quality since the first time I came here back in 2011/2012. For unlimited sushi and Chinese food, I would say you do get your money's worth by coming here. I almost always exclusively only eat the sushi here because...sushi I love the different rolls that come out on their boats. I never know what I'm eating but I love how they taste. I think for dinner and Sundays, you can even order a plate of sashimi from the sushi chefs as well, and it's included in the price. That's so worth coming here for that alone! I never leave this place hungry since there are so many options to choose from. They also have a Mongolian bbq station, which i never go to but my brother does every time. He loves it. Modesto has a lot asian buffet and the difference with this one is that they have sushi bar with circulating boats. Good selection of hot food and great sushi. They also have a special menu they offer which you can order that is not in the sushi boats. Good buffet to go. read more

I know, I know....so please hold your, "what did you expect?" and your, "you get what you pay for" comments. That was not good at all. We only decided to try it because we heard it was good. The absolute worst buffet I've ever been to. Today was a pretty hot day like around 80 degrees or more outside. Once's you walk in there was no ac so it felt like 80 degrees inside as well. I usually go on the weekends but I went today which is Tuesday and I was disappointed that they didnt have much variety it was around dinner time and some of the rice on the rolls are dry and hard as hell. The sushi was amazing as always. My only complaint was that the sushi bar was dirty and needed to be clean. The server didn't ask us if we wanted to sit there so they gave us a table. We asked to move to the bar and they told us no and didn't even try to accommodate us. I've worked good before and I found this to be terrible customer service. read more

** SELF-PROCLAIMED MOST USEFUL REVIEW ** ^____^ Its been a hobby of mine to go to restaurants when they are fairly new. So a few months after KOBE SUSHI BUFFET opened, I finally ventured out on a date with my mom during their weekly lunch special hours. Lunch $12.95 Dinner $16.95 The restaurant is located in McHenry Plaza on the intersection of McHenry and Briggsmore. However it is facing Briggsmore and the plaza is so huge with so many stores that it is easier to find entering from the second entrance (from the intersection) on Briggsmore. The restaurant is in a stand alone large building that looks new. They are plenty of bar seats as well as table seating in the clean restaurant. Now to the juicy important information. Before eating here, I have noticed some great reviews and some horribly negative reviews on the place. This makes it hard for people to really discern if this place is worth going to. My word of advice is to usually never listen to complaints that happen as soon as a restaurant is open. In most cases, newly opened restaurants opt for the trial and error method. They will make mistakes in the beginning and fix them. Yes, there are an occasional few that start off beautifully, and there are a few that make mistakes and never correct them too. Over the years, I've noticed that sushi restaurants get reviewed by plenty of "SUSHI SNOBS" that probably watched the documentary "Jiro Dreams of Sushi" on netflix one too many times and think that they know everything about sushi. To all of those people: "You are all idiots!" Get realistic. I've lived in Japan for over 10 years and in some occasion eat sushi 10 times a week. Sometimes I fear that my blood levels has been so contaminated by the massive doses of mercury buildup that I will eventually be able to turn myself into a metallic puddle like the bad robot in Terminator 2. I dont even eat "sushi rolls" which are nonexistent in Japan. But still I have the sense of not having those kind of expectations going into a restaurant that charges only 12.95 for all you can eat sushi. It is what is is fellas. A clean restaurant that offers a variety of cheap rolls consisting mainly of immitation crab and overly compacted cold rice to fill you up. However, most Americans like rolls. They like the rice. This like the novelty of little boats floating around on water. They like the concept of the all you can eat buffet. Why then do I give it 4 stars? Cuz for that price, where else can I go and order a plate of sashimi combo where they give you cut up slices of salmon, tuna, and yellowtail without rice. Where else can I go to order another portion of yellowtail and have them cut me 4 nice chunks of just fish? Must I add that I can go to the Chinese buffet section and help myself with unlimited miso soup to go with my sashimi? My mom, who is not a snob nor a yelper actually enjoyed the wide selection of Chinese food. Through previous reviews I expected one buffet line, but there were enough variety to consider it a separate Chinese buffet on its own. They even had raw meat and a Mongolian BBQ grill. So when you go, dont expect Sukibayashi Jiro to had mold the consistently exact amount of rice and brush on the perfect amount of soy sauce on each sushi. Expect like you are going to a restaurant that costs $12.95 and enjoy the variety and find what pleases you the most. Kobe is three times as nice as the sushi buffet we have in Stockton. Nice open feeling and nicely appointed. Stopped here for dinner which started at 5 pm. Nice selection and most of the food looked/tasted fresh, unlike some buffets where the food looks petrified! I am not a sushi expert but it seemed that they had quite a selection and you could also order directly off of a small sushi menu. I tried a dish that i did not recognize but looked 'interesting'. Had a nice texture to it and a light smokey flavor. Turned out it was smoked squid...mmmm. Prices reflect the selection and ambiance. $17 for dinner but sodas were only $1. I believe lunch prices were $13. They have a sushi bar with the little floating boats. I like that setup! Note that they close for a couple of hours during the afternoon. FIRST AYCE SUSHI IN MODESTO! I have been dreaming of this for years. We usually caravan to elk grove fuji sushi to get our fix. This place has the sushi boats circling around plus menu you can order off of. Fish quality is probably grade B, but for $12.95 lunch/$16.95 dinner you can't go wrong. This place gets 4 stars because it's the only one of its kind in the area. If it were in Sac, the bay, or la it would easily be 3. If the raise prices, I'll gladly take off a star. read more

My parents came here before and were super excited to share the place with us. They thought it was the neatest thing that the sushi comes around in little boats. Granted, that is pretty neat/cute, so we accepted their invitation to have lunch here. I am not a big sushi person so I can't say how this sushi compares to other places. However, the establishment was clean, the staff was very friendly and there was a variety of food even if you aren't a big sushi lover. The sushi buffet is located in the center of the restaurant and has a bar that you can sit at and continue to grab sushi of your liking. The rest of the buffet is in the back of the restaurant. They had an assortment of Japanese, Chinese and American food. They also had Mongolian Wok in the back. So they have a pretty good variety for whatever you are into. Like I said, not a big sushi person but I did have a piece the Volcano Roll that we ordered from the sushi bar and it was quite delicious. I guess I shouldn't expect much from sushi at a buffet except hopefully you find a roll you love to want to eat a lot of. They have sushi on the boats floating around or you can order from 6 or so options of what they already have except that you get the whole roll as opposed to two pieces. They also have cold tempura shrimp that probably would be good but what can you expect. I sampled them all and they're mediocre. Buffet is always about the quantity rather than quality I suppose. The Chinese is standard about 3 carts of 8 dishes and a few soups to choose from. Some seafood. One of my favorite items is cream cheese wonton and their filling was either of teaspoon size or had all come out during frying. Everything else rather bland. Their Mongolian bbq had options of poultry beef and shrimp. I liked the shrimp option. Standard veggie fixings but the guy sauces it for you with only a teriyaki and siracha option. If you know Mongolian you need to be able to douse your noodles with enough sauce to get good flavor so it was a miss. Might as well just get the chowmein. Overall don't expect anything greater than 3 star food and 2 star service for your beverage or clean up. Their price on Sunday was $22 per person all day which can be one delicious roll elsewhere and I think I rather spend it on one roll I love than a few I'm looking to fill a craving that won't be met. read more

I stumbled upon this place because the unlimited sushi deal was great! While I wanted to like this place, it was a bit too unsanitary for me. There were multiple times where I saw a fly on a piece of sushi and even hair on sushi they put on the boat.... Which was enough to make me lose my appetite. The deal itself is good, but like most reviews, most of the sushi you will find are just variations of dressed up california rolls. The sushi isnt amazing but it's a good deal.
