Oysters
Nathan B.

Kobe Sushi Buffet $26 (Dinner pricing) for one person; tipped $4 to the sushi chefs and $6 to the waiter. Pretty average buffet. Place has been around for awhile, so expectations were about low to medium. I got seated at the bar where the floating boats of sushi floated by. You have to wave down or walk up to a waiter if you want something. There's a menu if you ask where it's included in the buffet that comes out made to order. I ate the Volcano roll and Salmon Skin Handroll from the menu, and I enjoyed it. Anything on the floating boats are average. I only like coming when it's busy so there's constant fresh nigiri and rolls on them. I only recommend the dinner time selections. The hot buffet has some solid selections, but I grabbed oysters mainly. In total I ate 14 plates from the floating boats, 2 salmon skin hand rolls, 8 oysters, and 1 Volcano roll. 3/5 stars for what it is, not bad but also not good.

Sushi boats

1/2 I've been to Kobe Sushi Buffet many times in the past, but this was the last straw. I hadn't been here in a while and decided to give it another chance. Big mistake. The sushi boats still look cool, but that's about the only positive. Nearly everything was California roll-based, with little variety. Some of the sushi even tasted old, which is concerning. The hot buffet area was just as disappointing--no chicken skewers! Those were always my go-to here, and they're gone. What used to be a dependable spot has really gone downhill. Mediocre food, little variety, and missing the items that used to make it worth the trip. Sadly, this will be my last visit.

I paid $24 for dinner buffet here and honestly had a very disappointing experience. The rice was cold, not Japanese rice, and it lacked the proper vinegar taste that sushi rice should have. The fish and toppings were not fresh, and anyone with a sensitive stomach or weak health should really avoid eating raw items here. The hot foods were only warm, not hot, and the soup was extremely sour and unpleasant. I waited a long time for oysters, but when they arrived, they were very fishy-smelling and cold. About 10 minutes after eating, I started feeling nauseous, had stomach pain, and experienced full-body muscle aches, similar to food poisoning symptoms. Fortunately, I vomited shortly after, which may have prevented the situation from becoming worse. I strongly recommend that people with weak digestion or health issues do not eat here, and do not bring children, as their bodies are more sensitive. If you still decide to come, it is safer to eat only fully cooked and hot foods. Overall, this was not a good experience, and I would not return.

This place had a good variety and they now have Mongolian grill there as well. Price wasn't bad either. Definitely going back here.

Wow, I was so impressed with the uniqueness of this place! I've been to conveyor belt sushi places…read morebefore but this is the first time I have seen individual hot pots with accompaniments coming to you on a conveyor belt! What a great concept!! Everyone is seated with their own individual hot pot plate to build their own individual hot pot. (Don't worry it does not burn). You choose your basic soup broth, choose the meat you would like, and then start grabbing things off the conveyor belts! It not only is a fun concept, you can get quite creative with how you build your hot pot and choose just the things to your liking. I was amazed that they had very authentic Chinese ingredients to choose from - wood ear, enoki mushrooms, bok choy, different kinds of noodles, fish balls, Napa cabbage, octopus, and lots of different varieties of selfish, plus much much more! I chose the traditional broth and they even had Chinese red dates in it plus wolfberries (sometimes known as Goji berries) in the broth just like what I grew up with The service was just ok, since it was our first time there we had to ask a lady to show us what we were supposed to do. She was helpful, but the servers don't come around very often. That said, the plates and dishes clutter up really fast and they don't come around very often to clear the dishes, for which I would have taken a star off. But my experience there with conveyor belt hot pot was so nice that I'm leaving it at five stars. What I liked best besides the authentic ingredients, is that you can become quite creative to build your own hot pot to your own liking.

Love having my own individual pot and personalizing my broth and spice level. The meat is fresh (1 meat at a time), and the DIY sauce station. Price is reasonable too when you go at lunchtime. Waitress is super nice too.

The restaurant is nestled in the cute downtown area of Hughson, their main street. Upon walking in, we were greeted by the staff and seated right away. We were there on a Thursday evening about an hour before closing, but the restaurant was packed with customers. The menu has an extensive selection of Chinese and Japanese dishes. I had the Bruce Li roll which had tempura shrimp topped with crab meat, salmon, tuna, spicy mayo and unagi sauce. I also 2 pieces of the Hamachi (yellowtail), miso soup, and spicy edamame. The fish was some of the freshest I've ever had - flavorful, definitely sushi grade, and I could tell that it also wasn't previously frozen due to the color and texture. The miso soup and the spicy edamame were well-seasoned and delicious. My nephew had a combination plate with orange chicken, broccoli beef, and chicken fried rice. One thing to note that was really nice is that the restaurant allows you to create your own combination plates, they're not set items with no substitutions. When our waitress brought my nephew's combo plate, the food looked freshly cooked and delicious! He ate every bite! If you're ever in Hughson, try the Hughson Asian Kitchen - the friendly staff and tasty food won't disappoint!

DO NOT GO TO THIS LOCATION- YOU WILL GET SICK! If I could…read moregive this place 0, I would. The reviews definitely don't reflect the actual service and food at this location. Starting off, my best friend and I were in Modesto for Barnes and Noble to get some books for my son. This location being right next to the bookstore was convenient so we went inside. The young girl who served us looked disgusted the moment my best friend said she'd never eaten there and wasn't sure how to order. She looked at her like she was stupid and just said what do you want and was not helpful whatsoever. She got the small poke bowl and I got a small donburi bowl. After what took over 5 minutes for her getting our two bowls from us, she walked away after I paid and I had to ask another worker for a lid to my bowl. Whatever, service sucked, maybe she was having a bad day? We sat down to eat (still hadn't gotten the chicken tempura and gyoza I had ordered for my son). Before my son's food even was ready I had bitten into a very bad piece of shrimp tempura that tasted as if the inside of the batter was covered in mold. I immediately spit it back out into a napkin and just sat there about to throw up. I sat there thinking this is probably just a mistake and maybe I imagined it. Then my son showed me his chicken that he said he didn't want to eat. It was old, rubbery, did not resemble chicken at all, and had black stuff around the chicken under the batter. I went to the worker who was at the counter and told her what we had received. She didn't seem surprised at all, but more surprised I wanted a refund for the two items that were spoiled. No manager onsite, apparently they usually aren't there. She called the manager who did not answer the phone but proceeded to text the worker. Asking exactly what happened several times and then proceeded to say the black on the chicken is seasoning before it's fried, which is not true because the come pre battered and it was just old. I had accepted no refund on the chicken for the ridiculous excuse, but I wanted a refund on the donburi bowl at the very least. The manager asked her to open my napkin and send a pic of the shrimp!!!! THAT IS SO NASTY! That young girl does not get paid enough to be doing all of that. That is revolting! I ended up opening it for her so she didn't have to so she could and a pic. Then the manager stopped responding to her by text. That's fine, Manager, that's fine. You should've just given me a refund for your nasty ass food that was not edible. Now you'll be receiving a visit from the county health department as they were called the moment I left your restaurant because of the food being kept at room temperature, your dirty facility, and the spoiled food you're serving to paying customer. This idiot sent me into my Karen era and I do not even care. Don't mess with people's food. Good luck.
