You would never think that a town like Hughson would have a great sushi place like the Hughson Asian Kitchen! The restaurant is nestled in the cute downtown area of Hughson, their main street. Upon walking in, we were greeted by the staff and seated right away. We were there on a Thursday evening about an hour before closing, but the restaurant was packed with customers. The menu has an extensive selection of Chinese and Japanese dishes. I had the Bruce Li roll which had tempura shrimp topped with crab meat, salmon, tuna, spicy mayo and unagi sauce. I also 2 pieces of the Hamachi (yellowtail), miso soup, and spicy edamame. The fish was some of the freshest I've ever had - flavorful, definitely sushi grade, and I could tell that it also wasn't previously frozen due to the color and texture. The miso soup and the spicy edamame were well-seasoned and delicious. My nephew had a combination plate with orange chicken, broccoli beef, and chicken fried rice. One thing to note that was really nice is that the restaurant allows you to create your own combination plates, they're not set items with no substitutions. When our waitress brought my nephew's combo plate, the food looked freshly cooked and delicious! He ate every bite! I was in Hughson to film a movie, and I haven't been back here since my aunt and uncle owned a coffee shop in town years ago. It's a cute little place and I didn't expect it to have such good Asian Chinese/ Japanese food. My cousin and I ordered the honey walnut shrimp and orange chicken and it was so good! Both were battered really nicely...huge shrimp and big chunks of chicken 10/10. I was amazed by the quality and the fluffy jasmine rice. I was born and raised on going to get chow mein after church. This is by far one of the best spots if not the best in the valley for flavor, texture and consistency. They have the BEST sweet and sour chicken i've ever had; never a bad piece and always the best flavor. You would be shocked to see sushi on the menu until you see the chef who is a master of his craft. I've tried most the rolls and am never disappointed in flavor, freshness or presentation. My wife and I have been to Asian Kitchen several times. Last night we went for our Friday night date. We had the Volcano sushi. It is always delicious. Great taste. We then shared the dinner plate of half fried rice/noddles and Orange Chicken. WOW the Orange Chicken has a great taste very consistent each time we are there. We love the atmosphere. A few weeks ago my fiancé and I were looking for sushi places out in the Central Valley. We just moved here and were looking for some of the mild comforts of home. He stumbled upon this place and suggested we try it if we were in the area. Fast forward to this last Saturday. An interesting take of the Crispy rice and Spicy tuna fad going around for some time. Crispy Spicy has Sweet tempura Yam as the base followed by Spicy Tuna, some avocado and japelenos. We found Hughson's and put our GPS en route. We stumbled upon a cute quaint little town with a lovely little Main Street. Hidden amongst the buildings with a few customers inside we set our eyes on Hughson's Asian Kitchen. The server was busy managing all tables and was very attentive. You seat yourselves and wait patiently as we were waiting we realized it's a fusion. Of possibly Japanese and Chinese cuisine. We came for the app. And we ordered a bit of everything. The staff was kind and courteous. The selection of food was very versatile. Note where we live there is no Chinese food. However any time we go up in that area we are stopping by for more garlic chicken, crispy spicy and to try most other things on the menu. We left full and happy and with containers for leftovers. We ate here for the first time tonight after family and friends have recommended it and we loved it!! The food was fresh and delicious. The service was great even though it was kinda busy and we were seated immediately. It is very clean inside and the bathrooms were clean as well. All of the portions were generous. We got a small won ton soup and it was enough for 4 people. Everyone in the place seemed to be enjoying their food and the service. The atmosphere was overall just light and fun. I don't even know where to start... we walked into a simple yet lovely little place in downtown Hughson. It was bright, spacious and cool (it was 100° out). The server was welcoming and told us to grab whatever seat we wanted. We started out with the garlic edamame... I am pretty sure they brine them in salt water... the garlic was everywhere and yummy! The one thing I liked is I didn't feel rushed to eat... it was a big plate and we had time to eat it. We ordered the 12 piece sashimi, the tuna was good but we saved the salmon and yellow fin (I think) for last... melt in your mouth goodness... the ocean torch was good but my favorite out of the two was the Gorilla roll... I would recommend this restaurant for both the sushi and Chinese food. We watched HUGE platters coming out to tables and they were for one person! You could easily share it. What a find! read more

Getting poke bowls for lunch tomorrow! Called in and ordered 2 tuna bowls and the worker was very kind and said it would be ready in 20 minutes. I went to get it. Very nice restaurant! Safe and clean! I showed up a little early, paid for the order and waited for it to be ready. The worker was very kind. Next day! Got everything ready per usual! The poke bowl was Fantastic! Loved all of it! Fresh and tasty and the spicy sauce included made it even better! Fresh avocado and ahi tuna too! They both came with side salads and I just wish the dressing came on the side. The side salad was good, but a bit much drowning in the dressing. Mother didn't care for the seaweed, but I thought it was great! She thought it was fresh and good! Good service and lunch! So where did this place come from? Good sushi in the town of Hughson. Let's take a trip on the yumville express. Wife of course wanted sushi but we wanted something different. She happened to find this restaurant using Yelp. We arrived and the place was average size. The sushi chef tucked in the corner. Let me say this was the smallest sushi working area I have ever seen. We were quickly seated by a nice young girl. We looked over the menu and I must say this place is unique. Normally sushi restaurants have all the same boring named rolls. This place was thinking outside the box and came up with unique sushi rolls and unique names. We started with an app. We picked the jalapeño poppers. This is not any ordinary popper. This was stuffed with cream cheese, spicy tuna and deep fried. Let me say this, can I get twenty more orders of this? This was delicious. I have seen this variance at different sushi restaurants down south. I think they go by the name heart attack or something similar in name. Side note these are not small. I don't know where they got the jalapeños from because these jalapeños are huge. I picked the hulk, wife chose the ocean torch, son picked a dragon and the Woogie picked a poke bowl. Stopped in here yesterday after seeing this pop up online, and I'm glad I did! This might just be my new favorite sushi joint. The restaurant is super clean and has plenty of space, and I was greeted immediately upon walking in (I sat this because that's not always the case!). I ordered the garlic edamame and the Hughson Huskies roll. Both were delicious, but the roll itself was FIRE! It had a lot of flavor and was huge. I could barely finish it! The ONLY reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is because the service was a little slower than I'm used to & some of the rolls could have used a little more sauce (the sauce is more of a preference though). It's hard to find decent sushi without going to Turlock or Modesto. Being in Ceres, this is an 8 minute drive down the road, and their sushi was pretty good! There's a nice variety of rolls, and I will definitely be back to try more. My husband and I both agree that their Orange Chicken and Chow Mein is THE BEST we've ever had at any restaurant... (and Golden Bowl had always been our favorite...) seriously amazing! I cannot wait to try their other entrées as well. On top of the awesome food, the environment in the restaurant is very nice and modern. The bathrooms are clean and updated. The staff and service is kind and friendly, and I felt welcomed.
