Sadly this restaurant took a turn down spiral...I had not been here in over 8 years but today i remembered how delicious it used be. To my surprise. No hospitality from the owner, cashier and cook. Decided to take my son here today for lunch. It was empty, but we decided to try it anyways the man at the front was OK. He sounded irritated when I was asking him what was in the roles because there's no description. I decided to go with the salmon roll and my son got the bento box chicken bento box when I looked in the back. I noticed he was microwaving something I thought oh maybe he's microwaving the rice. You know a lot of Asian restaurants have a big thing of rice and I'm OK with you. Heating up the rice that way Well was I wrong? My son got his chicken and it clearly been microwaved from raw. It was so disgusting. We both spit it out. My salmon was two different colors looked very bad took one bite. It tasted so awful. I spit it out and we left. We didn't bother to take pictures. Restaurant has 5 booths and 5 tables. No waiter you order at the counter and they bring the food out to you. I ordered the teriyaki chicken lunch. Came with a small salad, good portion of steamed rice and sliced chicken. Perfect size for lunch. Teriyaki sauce had good flavor , chicken was tender. Not bad for a $9.95 priced meal. Although I didn't order they have a selection of sushi, Chinese food and bottled beer. In the way out I was handed a fortune cookie and a free top off on my drink. This was a first and last for my family here. The potstickers were crispy, nearly like a chip. The chow mein noodles were dark brown. The broccoli beef was watered down in flavor. The fried rice was just white rice with vegetables mixed in. The sweet and sour chicken and orange chicken looked like they were from the bottom of the tray and a day old at the least, as a matter of fact, I don't think anything was freshly made and wouldn't be the least bit surprised if everything was microwaved, it was just all wrong for taste and textures for Chinese food. All portions were severely undersized. Not one of us in my house felt good after eating it, any leftovers were thrown out after. I started coming here regularly a few months ago to grab a quick drink and bite. The business owner is always very kind and engaging. The quality of the sushi is very high in my opinion. The seaweed is higher quality than most places locally and even the imitation crab, which I normally do not like, is delicious. I also enjoy the inside of the space. It is dark and clean and overall welcoming and cozy. I have tried a new roll every time I have come and I look forward to trying them all. While here noticed they don't have menus to look at just a board with the menu so felt awkward standing there looking while on the phone with my partner to decide what to eat. Ordered the dinner for 2 and must say I was highly disappointed the portions were so small that maybe it was meant for 2 children? Should have ordered the combo plates maybe would have been worth the price for the food we recieved. The chow mein looked and tasted old the rice was bland with no flavor and the sweet and sour pork tastes like it was red syrup with small pieces of pork in mostly breading. When the food came out it was the smallest sushi we had ever had. The two sushi's equaled one at any of the others we have been to. The sushi was great though. The food here is just okay. Nothing special and we eat here once in a while to support a local business. The customer service has always been great which helps make up for the meh food. Went to get takeout for the first time since COVID and was pretty impressed by the safety protocols at first. There's only room for one person to come in there's a reasonable barrier between you and the employee. The elderly cook was properly masked. You can see part way into the kitchen from where you get your food. And then............the young cook came into view and he had his mask around his chin. I realized he was making my food. We ordered here for the first time and felt the food was just okay. Not great, but not bad either. Sweet and sour pork, garlic chicken and chicken chow mein were on the dry side as other reviewers have stated. All were just mildly spicy lending them to be a little on the bland side. Their site mentions their famous garlic chicken which is the reason why we ordered it. It was a disappointment. I should also say that the chicken chow mein had just a few tiny pieces of chicken. I really had to look hard to find any chicken at all and they were cut so small about pea sized. The garlic chicken and sweet and sour pork were not in quart containers like we're used to in other chinese restaurants. They were in styrofoam containers with a portion of white rice on the side. This decreases the quantity of food which you would normally get in a quart size container. Therefore, since you get less food it makes the meal much more expensive. Unfortunately, we won't be ordering from The Orient house again. read more

Great sushi! First impression as I walked in was that the decor was nice and the restaurant was very clean. I was greeted immediately by the staff and led to a table. I ordered sushi only. A rainbow roll, Dragon roll, avo ebi roll, and a 911 roll ( which was delicious) , miso soup came with the sushi and it was hot and a great start to our meal. All of the food was delicous, the staff was friendly and very helpful. The fish was fresh and the rolls were very reasonably priced. Id recommend orient house to anyone in Modesto looking for great sushi and great service. read more
