Kimoto has become our go to Japanese restaurant ever since my previous fav Japanese place owners had retired. We came around 8:44 pm on a Friday night and they still accepted us to dine in but had to sit at the sushi bar which was fine. I had the chicken teriyaki dinner plate and upgraded to the vegetable tempura at an extra charge with steam rice (though you can get fried rice. My wife got the chicken katsu dinner and vegetable tempura also. Dinner plate comes with salad and miso dressing- which is a bit like thousand island in color and taste. As well as miso soup. Reason this is my go to Japanese restaurant is I like how their chicken teriyaki is cooked. It's basically char grilled , dark meat which gives it the best flavor. And the teriyaki sauce is a bit thicker and stays on the meat compared to another Japanese place I've reviewed that I didn't like their watery sauce. Service was great. They didn't rush us to finish our food and our waiter informed us about the kitchen closing in 10 mins and asked if we wanted anything else. So that was nice. Overall, definitely recommend this place if you like to order chicken teriyaki. My wife's katsu looked good and she enjoyed what she ordered.

I make it a point to come here every time I visit my girlfriend's family in Modesto. Each roll I've had was fresh and delicious, and they offer free miso soup too!

The food was great! Everything we ordered came out in a timely manner and the service was good. The ambiance is great and a good family location. Family of 5 with you g kids and they were great.

I enjoyed the sake fin, albacore pepperfin, and half moon bay roll. The fish quality is good but not great, but still enjoyable. I noticed the albacore flavor was good but very visually unappealing. Adding some tobiko, green onions, or anything with color would make it better. I added green onion, jalapenos, and tobiko to the half-moon bay roll, which was delicious.

This place sucks. They always forget something when I order delivery. ALWAYS! I just ordered $60 worth of food and got no chopsticks, wasabi, or soy. I'm sick of it. There's no option in Uber Eats to select those items either. So don't give me that. What is wrong with the people that work here? Twice before, I drove there just to get those items. You would think you would correct your stupidity. On top of that, they give me barely a half cup of miso. Don't bother with this place.

They have the best sushi in Modesto! And very good customer service. I love the Seared sea roll!

Wow, I was so impressed with the uniqueness of this place! I've been to conveyor belt sushi places…read morebefore but this is the first time I have seen individual hot pots with accompaniments coming to you on a conveyor belt! What a great concept!! Everyone is seated with their own individual hot pot plate to build their own individual hot pot. (Don't worry it does not burn). You choose your basic soup broth, choose the meat you would like, and then start grabbing things off the conveyor belts! It not only is a fun concept, you can get quite creative with how you build your hot pot and choose just the things to your liking. I was amazed that they had very authentic Chinese ingredients to choose from - wood ear, enoki mushrooms, bok choy, different kinds of noodles, fish balls, Napa cabbage, octopus, and lots of different varieties of selfish, plus much much more! I chose the traditional broth and they even had Chinese red dates in it plus wolfberries (sometimes known as Goji berries) in the broth just like what I grew up with The service was just ok, since it was our first time there we had to ask a lady to show us what we were supposed to do. She was helpful, but the servers don't come around very often. That said, the plates and dishes clutter up really fast and they don't come around very often to clear the dishes, for which I would have taken a star off. But my experience there with conveyor belt hot pot was so nice that I'm leaving it at five stars. What I liked best besides the authentic ingredients, is that you can become quite creative to build your own hot pot to your own liking.

Love having my own individual pot and personalizing my broth and spice level. The meat is fresh (1 meat at a time), and the DIY sauce station. Price is reasonable too when you go at lunchtime. Waitress is super nice too.

The restaurant is nestled in the cute downtown area of Hughson, their main street. Upon walking in, we were greeted by the staff and seated right away. We were there on a Thursday evening about an hour before closing, but the restaurant was packed with customers. The menu has an extensive selection of Chinese and Japanese dishes. I had the Bruce Li roll which had tempura shrimp topped with crab meat, salmon, tuna, spicy mayo and unagi sauce. I also 2 pieces of the Hamachi (yellowtail), miso soup, and spicy edamame. The fish was some of the freshest I've ever had - flavorful, definitely sushi grade, and I could tell that it also wasn't previously frozen due to the color and texture. The miso soup and the spicy edamame were well-seasoned and delicious. My nephew had a combination plate with orange chicken, broccoli beef, and chicken fried rice. One thing to note that was really nice is that the restaurant allows you to create your own combination plates, they're not set items with no substitutions. When our waitress brought my nephew's combo plate, the food looked freshly cooked and delicious! He ate every bite! If you're ever in Hughson, try the Hughson Asian Kitchen - the friendly staff and tasty food won't disappoint!

DO NOT GO TO THIS LOCATION- YOU WILL GET SICK! If I could…read moregive this place 0, I would. The reviews definitely don't reflect the actual service and food at this location. Starting off, my best friend and I were in Modesto for Barnes and Noble to get some books for my son. This location being right next to the bookstore was convenient so we went inside. The young girl who served us looked disgusted the moment my best friend said she'd never eaten there and wasn't sure how to order. She looked at her like she was stupid and just said what do you want and was not helpful whatsoever. She got the small poke bowl and I got a small donburi bowl. After what took over 5 minutes for her getting our two bowls from us, she walked away after I paid and I had to ask another worker for a lid to my bowl. Whatever, service sucked, maybe she was having a bad day? We sat down to eat (still hadn't gotten the chicken tempura and gyoza I had ordered for my son). Before my son's food even was ready I had bitten into a very bad piece of shrimp tempura that tasted as if the inside of the batter was covered in mold. I immediately spit it back out into a napkin and just sat there about to throw up. I sat there thinking this is probably just a mistake and maybe I imagined it. Then my son showed me his chicken that he said he didn't want to eat. It was old, rubbery, did not resemble chicken at all, and had black stuff around the chicken under the batter. I went to the worker who was at the counter and told her what we had received. She didn't seem surprised at all, but more surprised I wanted a refund for the two items that were spoiled. No manager onsite, apparently they usually aren't there. She called the manager who did not answer the phone but proceeded to text the worker. Asking exactly what happened several times and then proceeded to say the black on the chicken is seasoning before it's fried, which is not true because the come pre battered and it was just old. I had accepted no refund on the chicken for the ridiculous excuse, but I wanted a refund on the donburi bowl at the very least. The manager asked her to open my napkin and send a pic of the shrimp!!!! THAT IS SO NASTY! That young girl does not get paid enough to be doing all of that. That is revolting! I ended up opening it for her so she didn't have to so she could and a pic. Then the manager stopped responding to her by text. That's fine, Manager, that's fine. You should've just given me a refund for your nasty ass food that was not edible. Now you'll be receiving a visit from the county health department as they were called the moment I left your restaurant because of the food being kept at room temperature, your dirty facility, and the spoiled food you're serving to paying customer. This idiot sent me into my Karen era and I do not even care. Don't mess with people's food. Good luck.
