So I was initially sad to see that they no longer had salmon katsu on the menu since they came under new ownership but I asked our server if it was still possible to order and she said yes so I was elated! A little bummed they no longer make the tartar sauce for it but everything was just a delicious as I remember and the service is always top notch here. I also love that you can watch the chefs making your rolls and sashimi. I also love that the restaurant is large enough to accommodate larger parties for special occasions.

This is still our favorite Japanese restaurant in town. There are many options but the service and the flavor profile of their sauces, dressing, and roll combination are our favorite. We love their salad dressing. Our favorite rolls are the dragon and spicy tuna roll but next time we are trying their lobster roll as it look spectacular. Always busy yet service is efficient, friendly, and they are always willing to accommodate special requests.

Service was amazing!! I gave them a thumbs up on FB and they brought our table a free side of steamed edamame! Their small house salad was filling! They also offer complimentary miso soup before your meal.

    Lunch special menu

The staff lied about my order and the menu. Ordering over the phone to go, I asked for their chicken katsu curry entree, they asked to confirm if I wanted the lunch special or the dinner entree and I confirmed the dinner entree. Upon picking it up and leaving back to work, I found it was the lunch special with a half empty container of curry and a single cut of diced meat on rice. Calling back to confirm it was t the lunch special they handed me, they the. Said there was no lunch special, only the entree. This ignores the fact I have a copy of their menu from a week ago for the order with the special being number nine and the entree in the back of the menu. Don't eat here, it's so much more expensive and worse service under the new ownership.

$18 for Sakè? $25 for oysters? $15 for waygu??? Used to be $12 for sakè, 12$ oysters, 12$ waygu

Wow, I was so impressed with the uniqueness of this place! Everyone is seated with their own individual hot pot plate to build their own individual hot pot. (Don't worry it does not burn). You choose your basic soup broth, choose the meat you would like, and then start grabbing things off the conveyor belts! It not only is a fun concept, you can get quite creative with how you build your hot pot and choose just the things to your liking. I was amazed that they had very authentic Chinese ingredients to choose from - wood ear, enoki mushrooms, bok choy, different kinds of noodles, fish balls, Napa cabbage, octopus, and lots of different varieties of selfish, plus much much more! I chose the traditional broth and they even had Chinese red dates in it plus wolfberries (sometimes known as Goji berries) in the broth just like what I grew up with The service was just ok, since it was our first time there we had to ask a lady to show us what we were supposed to do. She was helpful, but the servers don't come around very often. That said, the plates and dishes clutter up really fast and they don't come around very often to clear the dishes, for which I would have taken a star off. But my experience there with conveyor belt hot pot was so nice that I'm leaving it at five stars. What I liked best besides the authentic ingredients, is that you can become quite creative to build your own hot pot to your own liking.

Love having my own individual pot and personalizing my broth and spice level. The meat is fresh (1 meat at a time), and the DIY sauce station. Price is reasonable too when you go at lunchtime. Waitress is super nice too.

The restaurant is nestled in the cute downtown area of Hughson, their main street. Upon walking in, we were greeted by the staff and seated right away. We were there on a Thursday evening about an hour before closing, but the restaurant was packed with customers. The menu has an extensive selection of Chinese and Japanese dishes. I had the Bruce Li roll which had tempura shrimp topped with crab meat, salmon, tuna, spicy mayo and unagi sauce. I also 2 pieces of the Hamachi (yellowtail), miso soup, and spicy edamame. The fish was some of the freshest I've ever had - flavorful, definitely sushi grade, and I could tell that it also wasn't previously frozen due to the color and texture. The miso soup and the spicy edamame were well-seasoned and delicious. My nephew had a combination plate with orange chicken, broccoli beef, and chicken fried rice. One thing to note that was really nice is that the restaurant allows you to create your own combination plates, they're not set items with no substitutions. When our waitress brought my nephew's combo plate, the food looked freshly cooked and delicious! He ate every bite! If you're ever in Hughson, try the Hughson Asian Kitchen - the friendly staff and tasty food won't disappoint!

Easily placing the sushi here as good if not better than osaka. I put my pops onto this spot and i now can finally close our ever lasting debate of who has the best chow mein in the 209/Valley.

DO NOT GO TO THIS LOCATION- YOU WILL GET SICK! If I could…read moregive this place 0, I would. The reviews definitely don't reflect the actual service and food at this location. Starting off, my best friend and I were in Modesto for Barnes and Noble to get some books for my son. This location being right next to the bookstore was convenient so we went inside. The young girl who served us looked disgusted the moment my best friend said she'd never eaten there and wasn't sure how to order. She looked at her like she was stupid and just said what do you want and was not helpful whatsoever. She got the small poke bowl and I got a small donburi bowl. After what took over 5 minutes for her getting our two bowls from us, she walked away after I paid and I had to ask another worker for a lid to my bowl. Whatever, service sucked, maybe she was having a bad day? We sat down to eat (still hadn't gotten the chicken tempura and gyoza I had ordered for my son). Before my son's food even was ready I had bitten into a very bad piece of shrimp tempura that tasted as if the inside of the batter was covered in mold. I immediately spit it back out into a napkin and just sat there about to throw up. I sat there thinking this is probably just a mistake and maybe I imagined it. Then my son showed me his chicken that he said he didn't want to eat. It was old, rubbery, did not resemble chicken at all, and had black stuff around the chicken under the batter. I went to the worker who was at the counter and told her what we had received. She didn't seem surprised at all, but more surprised I wanted a refund for the two items that were spoiled. No manager onsite, apparently they usually aren't there. She called the manager who did not answer the phone but proceeded to text the worker. Asking exactly what happened several times and then proceeded to say the black on the chicken is seasoning before it's fried, which is not true because the come pre battered and it was just old. I had accepted no refund on the chicken for the ridiculous excuse, but I wanted a refund on the donburi bowl at the very least. The manager asked her to open my napkin and send a pic of the shrimp!!!! THAT IS SO NASTY! That young girl does not get paid enough to be doing all of that. That is revolting! I ended up opening it for her so she didn't have to so she could and a pic. Then the manager stopped responding to her by text. That's fine, Manager, that's fine. You should've just given me a refund for your nasty ass food that was not edible. Now you'll be receiving a visit from the county health department as they were called the moment I left your restaurant because of the food being kept at room temperature, your dirty facility, and the spoiled food you're serving to paying customer. This idiot sent me into my Karen era and I do not even care. Don't mess with people's food. Good luck.
