Came in expecting this to be a solid spot. So I ordered their lunch special which includes rice, protein for around $11.50 (depending on the protein) with the option to upgrade to fried rice and chow mein (came with soup and an egg roll but I'm not sure if that's because I did the upgrade) for just about $1 extra. I think these days it's hard to find a meal deal for this price with this portion size. I had ordered the Orange Chicken. My meal came with a ton of fried rice (I opted for no chow mein) and plenty of meat. I actually didn't finish the rice and soup, I was pretty full by the end. The fried rice wasn't too bad, pretty standard. The soup a tad bland but it was OK. I wish the egg roll came out the same time as the rest of the food but I'm guessing they forgot it initially. Anyways it was piping hot when it came out with a nice crisp. As for the chicken itself, the sauce wasn't really spicy although it had the spicy symbol. And I wish it was more crunchy, it was mostly lacking in crunch with just a couple of pieces being decently crunchy. I had expected this would happen because I thought it came out way too quick. As for service, there were 2 people ahead of me in line I believe and after the woman working the counter finished up with them, I was promptly seated. She was always smiling and was very pleasant the whole time. As for the interior, there was plenty of seating and tables and it was clean enough. Average Chinese food. When I was younger, I really enjoyed Mei Wei for their family combo meals. However, when I decided to revisit after seeing all the Tik-Tok hype, I'm sad to say that I was disappointed. For takeout, I ordered the Garlic Chicken combination plate and the Cream Cheese Rangoons. I was really underwhelmed with everything. The Garlic Chicken was not really garlicky at all. It also seemed to have been over cooked. It was incredibly stringy and dry when I bit into each piece. The pieces were almost grainy. The chow mein was only good when combined with the sauce coating the chicken. The Rangoons were alright. They were pretty filled with cream cheese but the fried wrapper was very oily. I'm really hoping this was just a one-off bad experience since the food used to be good, but I definitely wasn't satisfied with my meal this time around. This is a small restaurant so in the evenings especially, it can get busy. If you want to do take-out, call ahead much earlier than when you plan to arrive. If not, you'll be waiting for a while inside as they cater towards the dine-in crowd. I hope next time is better! read more

Was recommended to Mei Wei as I was craving Chinese food so badly and had yet to find a good spot here in Modesto. We placed an order for pick up and were quoted 20 minutes. We arrived at the restaurant 30 minutes later and everything was ready to go. The inside is pretty small but they were turning tables quickly for a Saturday night and everything seemed to be going smoothly. On the way home our car smelled amazing and we were so excited to get home and eat! Everything was very tasty and we will definitely be back to try more things. This was my favorite go to spot for excellent barbecue pork, fried rice and sizzling rice soup after yesterday's experience at 12 PM. I'll never return. I was seated and said I was gonna go wash. My hands came back looked at the menu and the server was standing by the table near the register talking to her friends and ever once did she come over and ask, even though I made eye contact with her put my menu across the table and there I sat it wasn't till I got up and decided to walk out that she approached me. I called the restaurant spoke with the owner I believe and she said for me to come back and she'll give me my lunch for free I'll never be back. Heard good reviews but here is my personal honest review. I was anticipating a good food, but to my disappointment their salt and pepper pork is a bit hard, I had better ones. The Mongolian beef was too sweet and lacks main ingredient like onion leaves and other components. The fried rice a little stale. But the mix vegetables with shrimp was pretty good, it has the light delicious sauce and vegetables were cook to perfection with some crunch. But the shrimp were over cooked.
