Tonight was my second visit to Lucky House in Riverbank, having been introduced to the place by a colleague during a professional development day for teachers years ago (which often means, "find a restaurant you like nearby the training site.") Since they have had the same owners for over four decades, I was confident it hadn't changed too much. First, a disclaimer, I am no stranger to Chinese food as I have traveled extensively in the Orient a number of times, and having married into a Chinese family who emigrated from the Middle Kingdom back during the Cultural Revolution. My wife is half Chinese and knows her dishes. We ordered a variety of plates, as you will see in the attached pictures. Every one was spot on from soup to fortune cookies (which are not Chinese by he way but that's OK). Total spent was about $125 with tip. The service was solid, we were greeted as soon as we opened the door, as were all diners. The selections came out promptly, were attractively prepared. Assistance was offered to pack up leftovers (which we planned on, budgeting in take home for tomorrow and Thursday's meals). As for score, I give the place it a solid 5 out of 5. We WILL be coming back. My wife was still raving on the place when we got home. My only comment not glowing is that the floor could have used a touch near the entryway. And if you plan on a large group, seating is limited, and the locals know how good this place is. It was busy with both dine in and take out. Give it a try! read more

Very disappointed to say the least. I first doubted my thoughts on their food but it's been the fourth time the food is flavorless, bland, and did not taste good at all. I order a few things off the menu to try and I clearly could tell at this point the food was premade and probably microwaved to send out. A portion of my food was cold when I ordered it on door dash. I might as well just stick to Panda Express for the consistency and fresh food. Very sad because I always support local business first. Won't be seeing me again read more

Great customer service! The people are super friendly, the food is made by hand and fast! The place inside is clean and moves fast. Honestly I'm shocked, the floor is super clean, and the tables look so shiny. Great for a family meal or a quick bite to eat, or a casual date night. read more

Lucky house restaurant is a place to remember if you like Chinese food spicy food and barbecue and sweet and sour and other Chinese food from egg roll the small egg roll the big egg roll all depends on your type of taste you will enjoy this place cuz it's cozy it's comfortable that's fatalities top 10 they greet you with open arms and you'll just keep coming back for more I recommend this to everybody bringing their family and friends for lunch or dinner you won't regret it cuz their food has so much flavor especially that Mongolian beef you'll enjoy that one that's my favorite so try Lucky House restaurant I highly recommend this restaurant because the food is really good their food will leave a taste in your mouth that you want to come back read more

50/50. I have not found a decent alternative to this place but the taste has changed over the years. This last time I got my usual pork dish and it tasted like duck. Hubby and I decided to go for take out Chinese here since we both had a day off due to the New Years. Actually we heard of this place during our meal at Beijing before they closed permanently. We overheard from a customer across our table. We arrived before the dinner rush. Quickly seated and quickly ordered our food. The food arrived pretty quick also. We ordered the potstickers, garlic chicken, Mongolian beef and sweet and sour pork. They were all delish. No hair....no bugs.....dinner was perfect. This place was very quaint. It's a typical mom n pop Chinese restaurant. I see why they have a loyal following of customers. Unfortunately we live a bit far from this place. We will definitely come back next time we are in town for Chinese. There are VERY few good Chinese restaurants in Central Valley. Price: A Quality: A++ Service: A+ The only down side out of our experience is the limited selection in their menu. They have the same dish as with most Chinese restaurant which is why I couldn't give more than 4 stars. read more

We were visiting in the area and ordered takeout based on positive Yelp ratings. We weren't disappointed. The phone order taker was pleasant and accurate, and she thoroughly explained what was in each box when the order was picked up. The portions were extremely generous, and the prices were reasonable, especially for the amount of food received. The egg rolls were large, and they put holes in the takeout box to allow steam to escape so they would stay crisp. We even found the messages in the fortune cookies a little more thought-provoking than the usual platitudes. :-) This is not contemporary, gourmet Chinese food--it's what I would have eaten at a Chinese restaurant as a child back in the 1960s. Standard menu for that environment--almond or cashew chicken, broccoli beef, pork chow mein, etc. If you're not looking for modern, upscale creativity but just for a good, old-fashioned Chinese meal, go for it! read more

I have never had a bad meal from this place. The people are very friendly and courteous. The place is clean and inviting.

Disappointed. For many years this has been the go to spot for authentic Chinese food. Unfortunately they have lost it. The proteins seem to be all precooked with no seasoning at all. This is a more efficient way to prep but the taste and freshness of the food is compromised. Now all the food is over seasoned and saturated by their assortment of sauces and spices. This makes them just another Chinese joint. The service is good and the dining area still has the good vibe. I hope they go back to caring about the quality and authenticity of the food. read more

This is an update to my review from just after their remodel...I'm pretty sure we just had our last meal at Lucky House. We ordered last night, and I didn't know the total until I got there to pick it up. I was SHOCKED at how much they have raised their prices! I have their menu from after their remodel and she gave me their newest menu. Their items have gone up, in some cases, as much as $3-$5 each!! Yes, I realize things are getting much more expensive, but there is no reason for price gouging on cheap Chinese food. The quality was not there, and neither was the quantity. Our green bean beef was so salty we threw it away. The ginger chicken was not tasty. We always order garlic chicken. That was, as usual, good but not much in the container. Rarely if ever do I spend the time to comment on a restaurant, went here for the first time because Grand China was closed on Wednesdays, ordered for pickup through DoorDash, a couple of minor items were missing, but okay DoorDash gave a 50% credit. We all started eating and one person says there is a large black hair I. Their mouth, um what? We all look and she pulls out a 6" black hair. No one would eat after that... nasty food safety issue. I really have no clue why people love this place so much. It's not very far from my neighborhood and the staff is generally nice, but the food is really kind of basic and it leaves much to be desired. I've been to this place on several occasions, both before and during the pandemic, and the food is just not great. In the past I've ordered the sweet and sour chicken combination plate as well as the garlic chicken combination plate. Between the two, the garlic chicken is more palatable, but they're both equally dry and lacking in flavor. The fried rice is decent but overall, it just doesn't hit the spot. On a positive note, Golden Chopstix is within a mile driving distance from this place but is light years in terms of taste. 3/5 stars for now. read more

This place I have been trying to find for a year. After I had finally tried it, I was very disappointed, I tried their house chow mein, it was not good, and it was supposed to be mixed with pork, chicken, and shrimp, barely anything no flavor what so ever. Then I also got their beef and broccoli, and it was not flavorful either, and the beef was mushy. Egg rolls where whatever. The last thing I got was their garlic chicken, which tasted like sweet and sour chicken. I was very disappointed with this place.
