Been ages since I've been here but decided to come here for lunch to introduce it to my employee who has never been there. We came around 1 pm but the meat and vegetable counter was neat and tidy. The meats to choose are beef, pork, chicken and turkey. To get your moneys worth, you have to stack your meats, vegetables and noodles in one bowl for it to be personally cooked on the large flat grill. Your Mongolian bbq includes one scoop of rice, one gzyoza and egg flower soup. One bowl is part of the price but if you wanted a second round, it's only an additional $2 which is a good deal. Everyone had noodles that you can take home if you don't finish. Overall, everyone enjoyed Mongolian bbq and the newbie said she can't wait to go back here for lunch. read more

We haven't been here in forever but I love this place. If I am craving Chinese/Sushi etc I prefer to go here. $16.99 per person with refills. Easy to control portions, carbs, proteins, veggies, etc. You typically need a lot of sauce so be careful there for the sodium but otherwise a great, fun healthy option. The area in front of the noodles can get messy if people do not be careful but otherwise the restaurant is nice and clean, great music choices, awesome service. Servers and cooks are really nice, bring cash for the cooks or specify on your tip which portion is for cooks and which is for servers. Good for groups, dates, or treating yourself. We happened upon this place while searching for someplace for lunch while visiting Modesto. We always love when we find a Mongolian BBQ. We were not disappointed! There was an abundance of meats, veggies and sauces. They brought soup, rice and I think an egg roll to our table. I have a food allergy and they cleaned the grill before making my food. I ordered the Paleo bowl & create your own bowls. The sauces were off-putting bad, meat & fillings were swimming in it. Paleo bowl arrived with noodles. After I dug out all those noodles, there were very little vegetables left, and I selected 5 veggies! Meat looked & tasted dehydrated (like Treet) & hydrated in sauce. Total waste of money. Seen The reviews about lack of cleanliness and not sure what or when this was the case because in the day we visited it was clean and tidy. We have never been here in all the years we have lived here and this is better than most other Asian inspired food in the area. The cost for the dinner for two was great and once you figure out the sauce and how to fill your bowls it is a lot of food. I passed by this place on my way to my Airbnb, and I love Mongolian barbecue so I decided to stop in. The place was clean. It's your typical Mongolian barbecue set up, You grab your bowl, select your meat, and then you select your veggies and other fixin's, you decide what sauce you want to put on it, and then you hand it to the cook at the round flat-top, and then he hands it back to you. I was there for dinner. Dinner is a little bit pricier than lunch, and lunch is only one serving, while dinner is all you can eat. also, at dinner, there are more items to choose from than lunch. On the dinner line, There was a wide selection of different kinds of meats and veggies, beef, pork, chicken and turkey, , They had bok choy, corn, water chestnuts, even tofu. I also got a potsticker, rice, soup, and wontons. . Overall, it was a good meal. The reason I am taking away a star is First of all, it was a bit slow. Even at 7:30 on a Sunday night, the place was busy. They only had one person working the flat-top, so it did take a little while to get my food. I picked and sauced everything, so the bowl was very good, however the meat was a little bit tough. . The rice was good, and the wontons were delicious. Not greasy at all, and there was the right amount of sweet-and-sour sauce on them. However, the soup was kind of bland and oily. Some salt and pepper did help a bit. Place is boiling hot inside. They are clearly understaff. 2 cooks and 1 cashier. 6 dirty tables. Asked if we could wipe our own table. Cashier said no and went and did it. Sat for a bit then went back to the cashier to place a drink order. Brought the drinks and we had to ask for silverware. Still boiling hot. No drink refills, so we took our glasses to the cashier. Clearly they are understaffed. Cashier managed to keep an upbeat attitude which was nice. He gets 4 stars. Come on owners... do better and give your employees some support. And fix your AC. I was happy to bring my hubby here for the first time for lunch, he is now excited to show it to his adult sons during dinner where it is ALL YOU CAN EAT for $16.95! (Lunch was $14.25 with only one plate) The drinks are extra. They did have alcohol but I am not a beer or wine drinker sooooo this doesn't appeal to me. They did serve PEPSI products- which appeals greatly! The server was extra attentive. Selected a table and got all the goodies lined up on the table while we made our noodle bowls. Speaking of which...let me walk you thru it. When you walk in, you are greeted by the server- he asks how many and your drink order. You go to the food items along the wall to the right upon walking in. There are gloves (use them!) And bowls. You start placing the proteins into your bowl (chicken, pork, and beef are standard- They have shrimp and crab for extra- you will need to ask) then move to the next section with noodles, fruits, and veggie options. Pile on whatever you want. Then round the corner to chose your sauce and seasoning oils, keep laddling until you are content. Now the cook (probably has a fancy name- sorry I don't know) will take your completed bowl & ask if you garlic powder on it while he places it onto the hot stone to cook. Then viola, it will be placed in a bowl and you are good to go eat- be careful, it's hot! For our lunch today there was 2 other tables. It was pretty quiet/chill. I WISH I COULD GIVE HALF! This food was horrible, the vegetables were harder than a rock and nothing close to cooked, we even asked to cook them longer and they said "NO not possible ". They said many have complained but they never listened to the best advice they could ever get. The service was adequate, they were on top of everything but when you got there they had food set out and the rice was hard and crunchy. The floor was disgusting dirty ground and dirty counters. I came into your Modesto, Ca restaurant on Sylvan and Coffee Rd. We are 61 and 62 yrs old and wanted to have a nice lunch together. The restaurant was had one couple sitting down eating and us. The restaurant was starting to gain more customers due to the approaching lunch hours. The waitress put at us at the table where everyone come into the restaurant. We wanted to move to a table near the window. This way we are away from the traffic that enter the restaurant. The waitress said that it is unusual to want to move to another table. I said, "I guess we are unusual." I was starting to get the feeling of not being welcomed to the restaurant. She had put our rice and potsticker at another table and she watched me go to another table and sit and yelled across the restaurant to go to the table with rice. I move the rice and setting to the table near the window. She approached the table and said, I put old people in the walkway to make it easier to for them. I told her our age and her reply is she helping us out. I said, "that's rude." She said, "how?" I am a big tipper (my husband sometimes complain I give too much). I believe in a hard day at work deserves compensation). She said, "you can leave if you want." So, we walked out. We are retired and enjoying life which wasn't always so easy in our younger years raising a family. Now our children are grown and parents of their own. I think training is very much needed for your Modesto store. So ALL your customers can feel wanted and recommend your restaurant to all families and friends. I've been here before the pandemic and it was fine but this is my first time back since. I guess time away really made me see how dirty this place really is. The bathroom was by far the worst. So disgusting. I don't think it ever gets cleaned. And when the restrooms are not clean it makes me wonder how clean the kitchen is. The server was good but did not take notice of when the guy is cleaning the grill. So while we stood in line with our filled bowls and the guy took his time cleaning the grill (no sense of urgency what so ever), our soup, rice and pot sticker were all left out in the open to get cold (hope there were no flies around). Additionally this place is ALWAYS a mess at the sauce station. Sauces everywhere. Not sure why they don't just use jugs with pumps. Or use decanters with spigots that you turn off and on. (See photos). Would save a lot of waste/money, be more sanitary and a lot less messy. Also, it would be helpful if there was a sign at the sauces that said how many scoops you should have. I am teetering between 3 and 4 stars. Because the food experience itself was really pleasant and we haven't had that many in Modesto lately, I am going over the hump to 4 stars. Overall, the staff was pleasant and interacted with patrons adequately. I love mongolian bbq, and the food didn't disappoint. It was what you can expect from this type of cookery, with a decent number of options. And you can pay to add more a la carte things, which can be convenient. Initially I was a bit concerned about the thick noodles, but they ended up really good, not as heavy and chewy as I was anticipating. We were there for dinner after rush hour, and I felt like the place kind of showed it. It was a bit dark and could use a clean up of the "bowl build" area, floor included. One staffer finally wiped up the sauce area as we were waiting for the cooks to pick up our bowl. They cleaned up the grill right before our turn, which I was happy with because the grill really needed it. There is a fine line with "flavor" and burnt bits on this type of grill... We saw the prep for food to go order. I gotta admit I was pleasantly surprised at the effort placed into filling up the bowl as much as possible. They were not cheaping out of the amount, that is for sure, and it felt like whoever was going to pick this up was getting their money worth. read more

I would like to say my evening out to celebrate my brother's birthday we had chosen to dine at Mongolian BBQ .What a joke ! The worst service you can ever imagine must be family owned , the two girls behind the counter didn't at all give us any good service we had to take our empty glasses to the counter to get refills as she was on her cell phone texting . While there were tables all around that hadn't been bussed or floors swept I cought the other girl picking her nose and not even washing her hands ! The cooks were terribly slow and didn't seem as if they liked their job they water down your food if you don't put enough sauces and they spill part of your order when they put it in the bowl . The two girls were so lazy and I was so upset I didn't want to pay $82.00 for the four of us . The so-called waitresses were so into texting on their phones while I was paying my brother and sister and her friend were able to take their unfinished bowls with them to go . Which is not allowed because it's all you can eat . Well for 82.00$ and crap service I felt somewhat better taking our food with us . Never ever will I go there to eat again I wouldn't take my dog to eat there ! Where has the service gone these days I remember when a family could go out and have a good experience with good servers and hosts .If you decide to go eat there check out the tip jar for the cooks it might have had almost $2.00 in it .THAT SHOULD TELL YOU SOMETHING . Pros: young kid at the register was super friendly and busting his butt to get stuff done. We didn't get food poisoning. Cons: the place is a joke. Much like others have commented, it's insanely dirty and run down inside. Sauces all taste the same. Just salty and no flavor. The noodles aren't Mongolian style. They're giant and have a wet texture (yuck). The meat was fatty and sliced way too thick. Had a few friends who said to try GK Mongolian BBQ, and I am ashamed to say I had never ever heard of this place. I have driven past it a million times, but had no idea what it was. My Mother was the next to tell me about this place, so since she did I decided we would try it out. This place, first off is incredibly filthy. Every table in this business was dirty, there was food all over this restaurant, not just where the food is, but the entire place. My Mother had a pair of high heels on as she had just left church, and she almost slid in the vegetable area. I asked if it could be swept to avoid this again, and for there to be a ton of young men who were all working at the same time, it was incredibly frustrating the fact that they had the gall to get upset when I asked. Then if that wasn't bad enough, they never cleaned it up. My Mother was literally scooting food under the buffet so people wouldn't fall. The only person cleaning was this young waitress who was in her own world thinking about stars and flowers, she was cleaning the tables very slowly, I asked for my own towel to clean the table just to sit down and eat. All of this, is enough for me, I will never come here again. The food was OK, maybe a little overcooked, the noodles were; but this place it is a fun concept. But I will never come to this location as it is disgusting, I couldn't get past that, it's not worth coming to when I had a fear the food was contaminated with God only knows what. read more

I love this place and so does my family. The customer service is on point, from Marissa, Dan, I think the other Cook is named Christian. We're always greeted, great convo. I feel like the staff really makes the place better. On to the food, bomb. You can load the bowl like crazy, pick your sauces (always put more than what you think you need), and they cook it right up in front of you. Me and my husband went in on a slow Thursday night. First thing we notice was how messy the bar and floor was! ugh so gross. We decided to eat there anyway because we were at the hospital and very hungry. The polite waitress greeted us and was very quick with her service. The cooks were clean and very friendly and professional, one even asked us questions about how are day was. We noticed the area with the sauces was pretty messy and we had to ask for refills on almost every items such as noodles and sauces. When we got near the counter area to pay we heard the girl with the mask complaining and having personal conversations which made us feel uncomfortable. The food was good, and we enjoyed the meal, but the overall experience could have been better. We hope it was just an off night.
