This place can be a little hard to find from the outside since there's no real signage other than a menu. If you're looking at the strip mall, it's located toward the left side. Inside is pretty basic, with bench seating while you wait and about 10 seats at tables. The staff was friendly, and I had the chance to meet the owners, who were both very welcoming. I was really hoping to try the oxtails, but unfortunately they were sold out. Instead, I ordered the 4-piece catfish with fries, a side of greens, cornbread, and a slice of 7UP cake for dessert. My wife and I shared the meal, and everything was fantastic! The food tasted homemade, almost like my wife had made it herself--and that's saying something! My wife was already on the phone telling people how good the food was before we even finished eating. I also talked with another customer who assured me the oxtails are excellent, so now I definitely have another reason to come back. The catfish was delicious, the greens and cornbread hit the spot, and even the 7UP cake was amazing. I'll absolutely be back for the catfish, but next time I'm hoping to get my hands on those oxtails and try the smothered pork chops too. Today I stopped by Moo's Crazy Kitchen on College Avenue to check out their comfort food, and I can tell you that "comfort food" is exactly what they deliver. I was between errands and probably didn't take as much time with the menu as I should have. I ordered the one-item meal, which was two pork chops with French fries. The pork chop I ate was well prepared and satisfying, and the second one came home with me. Only afterward did I realize they also had greens on the menu. Had I been paying closer attention, I definitely would have ordered those! My family hails from Oklahoma and Arkansas, so properly prepared greens are right up my alley. If Moo's ever starts serving grits, I may be knocking on their door in the morning. The service was prompt, courteous, friendly, and outgoing. I was seated right away, my order was taken quickly, and I felt very welcome. I also noticed several other dishes that looked interesting, including what I believe was oxtail, so there is plenty to bring me back for another visit. For now, I'm giving Moo's a solid four out of five stars, with that fifth star still very much within reach. I'll probably bring Sharon back with me next time, take a little more time with the menu, and definitely try those greens. Moo's is a nice small local business with good people who seem to be working hard to make it successful. I definitely recommend giving them a try and seeing what you think. read more

So, I tried this new place for the first time, three days ago last Tuesday. I rolled up and ordered take-out for my family, who were not present. I'll start by saying that I REALLY wanted to give 5 stars , but in good conscience, I could not. Read on to find out why. This place is a hole-in-the-wall, hidden in a very small strip mall at the corner of College/Bowen I believe. Now, there is nothing wrong with a hole-in-the-wall. In fact, some of the best food in California comes from holes in the wall. But, I digress! Let me get on with the review. The customer service was top notch, 5/5. I believe I met the owners, and I am guessing a husband/wife team. Both very friendly, engaging and were excited for me to try the food, which would come later. The price point 4/5, initially seemed kind of high. That is until I got the food home and saw the portion sizes. They did NOT skimp on the portions which balanced out their price point. In fact, the food packages/containers could barely stay closed. THE FOOD! I ordered (3) 2-ways, with an ala carte pork chop and a side of Mac and cheese. (2) of the 2-ways were ordered with 4-prawns and 4-chicken tenders. The (3rd) 2-way was ordered with 4-prawns, 2-tenders, and 2-catfish. - The Pork Chop 4/5. The chop was fried in a light batter coating and was well seasoned. It was a little thin for my taste and was almost overcooked, not quite, but almost. I say that because a small section was a bit dry, while the rest of the chop was tender. - The Mac N Cheese 3/5. I bought this for my son, but I had to sample it. It was an ample portion for a single person and frankly might be enough for two people if you're having it with a 2-way meal. So, I took a spoonful. Immediately I noticed it was kind of dry as I scooped my spoonful. There was a lot of cheese that was kind of stringy rather than creamy. That's what typically happens to Mac N Cheese when it sits for too long. The noodles absorb all of the moisture leaving the dish dry and with stringy cheese , rather than with melty, creamy cheese. But, I took my bite anyway. Right of the bat I tasted salt. This was over salted IMHO. HOWEVER, it had great flavor. I bet the Mac N Cheese was the bomb when it came right out of the oven. My son didn't have any issues with the Mac N Cheese and thought it was good. - The Chicken Tenders 4/5. These were battered and fried. The batter slightly thicker than the pork chop batter and also seasoned well. The tenders were crisp and crunchy on the outside and tender on the inside. Anyone who likes chicken tenders will like these. - The Prawns 1/5. The 1/5 stars for the prawns is a little misleading. The prawns were fried in a batter (I think) that was lighter than the batter on the tenders. But, I couldn't figure out of it was the same batter with maybe a little corn meal. In any case, I took a bite and BAM! WAY TOO MUCH SALT! I didn't say anything to my wife because I wanted to see her reaction. She bit into the fried prawn, her face crinkled, she set the prawn down and said, "I can't eat this." When I asked why she said, "there is WAY too much salt!" I agreed. But, let me tell you about the rest of the prawn. The outside was crisp with a little crunch and the inside was oh so tender. These prawns were cooked to PERFECTIONL! - The Fries that come with the meal 1/5. They are crinkle cut fries and DO NOT travel well. Stale and inedible! - The Catfish 5/5. BEST OF SHOW! Calling this catfish perfect is an understatement. There cornmeal dredge created the perfect crust and was perfectly seasoned. The catfish was crispy and crunchy on the outside, light, flaky and moist on the inside. My wife doesn't like catfish, but I made her try it. Now she wants more. Believe me when I tell you this catfish is competition worthy. Overall, with the exception of the fries, the food travels well. This place has LOTS of potential. I would not change a thing with the catfish. I would go easy with the salt on the tenders. They came close to being too salty. AND I would definitely cut the salt with the prawns. As for the fries, I might look into a better quality French Fry (not crinkle-cut). Something else that would help the food travel better, would be to punch holes at the corners of the food container to allow for steam to escape. This will help the fried food to stay crispy/crunchy even longer. I will say it again, this place has lots of potential. Hopefully I didn't offend anyone with my 2-cents. What do I know? I am just a foodie and I will be back. read more

Hidden (as it is in a small neighborhood shopping plaza off the main streets) little gem in Modesto. Saw a social media post about it and added it to my list of places to try! Glad we did- lots to choose from, just go earlier than my husband and I did! We went a little close to the end of the day, only because it was how our personal schedule worked out and we were fully prepared to miss out on some goodies as we know how it goes. We got there and got a little variety of items to try: the catfish, prawns, hush puppies, rice, and a hot link. Loved the flavor of the catfish! I am not a huge fishy person but I would order this again and again, the rice too- very delicious. The flavoring on the crispy prawns was great too. Hot link was ok- I think if we had ate it right after we got it, would have been a sweet deal but we took everything home and time passed before we got to it. Looking forward to trying out a handful of their other items we missed out on. Will visit them again soon but much earlier this time to snag some new items. read more

Thank God Modesto Finally has a place to get soul food. I got the 3 way, 12 piece plate. I chose 6 catfish, 3 shrimp and 3 wings. The homemade style fried catfish was amazing and it paired great with the tarter sauce. The shrimp is really good as well, it is cooked and seasoned to perfection. The wings were excellent also, I got barbecue flavor. I also got a piece of cheesecake for dessert that hit the spot, absolutely delicious. Im super excited to finally have soul food here in town. Can't wait to try the whole menu. They had beef hotlinks I was looking at to try next and ox tails on special occasions. I have been to Moo's 6+ times and always order the catfish. My food is always fresh & DELICIOUS. The fish is fried to perfection not too hard, not too soft. The tartar sauce is also VERY yummy! The staff is amazing and attentive. Even when ordering over the phone the estimated pick up time is what they tell you...I haven't ordered on the phone and have to wait an extra 10-15+ mins for my order when I arrive at the restaurant like most places.
