Our recent dining experience at Famous Dave's this afternoon: We dined in because last time it was a "To-Go" order and the temperature of the food was unacceptable to him. So, the Tuesday Feast for 2 special brought us back. In addition, they have a hamburger special for $6.00 and $10.00 if you would like a side. We particularly enjoyed the mac and cheese, which was as good as I remember, and the brisket was very tasty. Our waitress was friendly and accommodating, even allowing us to substitute mac and cheese instead of fries for both of our meals. Additionally, the ribs were a hit with my family, and the bread pudding had excellent flavor and consistency. I enjoyed it very much, while he thought it was too soggy. However, there were a few areas where we felt the experience could be improved: - The Burger: I ordered my burger medium-well, (as I like no pink, but not burnt) but it arrived heavily charred and blackened, which was quite noticeable and disappointing. - The Sides: The baked beans and coleslaw did not meet their expectations. They were "just ok". Additionally, the corn on the cob was overcooked and soggy. - Portioning: We ordered the "Feast for Two," which is noted to serve 2-3 people, yet it only includes two cornbread muffins. We would suggest including a third muffin to better accommodate the group size mentioned. - Dessert Quality: While we enjoyed the bread pudding and the sauce, the ice cream served with it was freezer-burned with large ice chunks. read more

Came in Wednesday for lunch and it wasn't as busy. Restaurant seemed a lil smaller compared to the one i used to go to back in the day. Service was a little slow but it seemed like there was only one waitress. She was very sweet and nice so customer service was A1. I ordered the three meat combo with beans and fries for my sides. I chose rib tips, brisket, and catfish. It also came with cornbread. The meat was okay tasted and felt little rubbery. Recently, AARP sent me links to many discount coupons for businesses in our area. One of them was Famous Dave's. We thought, it's only 5 bucks, but BBQ?" We are IN. From the moment we approached the place, we noticed that Carino's had shrunk. They seemed to be now in the bar of the old location. Still, we pressed on. We were greeted warmly and seated promptly. Our server, Josh, was on point and at the ready throughout our time there. He began us with a sauce tasting on freshly made chips (we liked all of them; the "hot" shouldn't scare you, as my benchmark is Everett and Jones in the East Bay, with Flint's and Doug's as close seconds back in the day). My wife had a cocktail, which she loved (the Famous Dave's version of a Long Island Ice Tea as I recall). I had the regular tea, and it was just fine. We ordered the "Famous Feast for Two," served (perhaps appropriately for Modesto) on a trash can lid. Still, we found the components to be spot on, tasty, and plenty of them. Have not been to Famous Dave's for a bit. We were on our way home from the pharmacy. Luckily we got here at 7:30 since they close at 8:30. So we had our own dedicated waiter. Kyrrel was the best. He was there with the refills and made suggestions. Hubby likes spicy so he brought out the Wilber's revenge sauce. Low smooth music not too loud. Just relaxing with an open kitchen so you watch them cook. Hubby had 3 meat combo (brisket, catfish and wings with greens and beans). I had the country roasted chicken with potato salad and corn. I explained I only eat the breast so Kyrrel was nice enough to get me two breast and no thighs or legs. Showed up and hour before closing time, and we were the only ones on the famous Dave's side of the carrinos/Dave's mashup building. So it was pretty sweet to have a dedicated waiter for the first time ever. We ordered onion tanglers, country roasted chicken and a 3 meat plate with catfish, brisket and wings. Wings I got plain and asked our waiter Kyrrel what they had that was HOT, he brought out Wilbers Revenge from the kitchen for me. Great on the wings and the brisket. It got me. I love some hot sauce, this one got under the lounge and creeped up for a good 5 minutes. Solid burn. Back to the food, the brisket was tender and as good as I had remembered from previous visits. The catfish fingers were surprisingly good. Solid choice. Collard greens were great and the baked beans were fantastic. Wife really enjoyed the chicken. We were the only ones left on the famous Dave's side so it was really nice, had time to chat with our waiter Kyrrel, and get recommendations and just chat a little while waiting for food. Great guy, great food. The look and feel of this location is very much what you'd expect from a full scale famous Dave's just on the cozy side. Nice look and comfortable seating. I placed an online order for a brisket sandwich and 1 side of broccoli. I received 5 pieces of broccoli and my sandwich in a large box. The portion size of the side of broccoli was way too small for a $20 meal. I also ordered another burger but with fries for the side and the whole box was filled. The food was okay. I've been to Famous Dave's in the Bay Area before, and for some reason the quality there felt better. Service was pretty standard--nothing special, but it's Famous Dave's, so I wasn't expecting anything too high-end lol. We did have an issue with our order--it took about 45-50 minutes because it wasn't put in at first, so they had to flag it. waitress offered free dessert but we kindly said no thank you. The ambiance could definitely be improved. We sat in a booth, and the table was oddly high--almost chest level while sitting (and I'm 5'6 lol). First time eating here at Famous Dave's. Kind of weird eating at this location where Carinos used to be and I've been coming for years. Josh was our server. Excellent service, quick and very attentive. My husband got the 3 meat platter: Georgia Chopped Pork, Texas Beef Brisket, and Southside Rib Tips with a side of jalapeño Mac &. Cheese, pickles, and cornbread. Hubby said his least favorite was the chopped pork but still overall very good. The jalapeno Mac and cheese was bomb and had bits of corn in it. I had the Southern Fried Shrimp Platter with side of fries, onion strings, and cornbread. Soooo good! only wish I had more shrimp. First of all, I would like to start with the fact that this is my favorite restaurant on the planet and it has been since I was a little girl. My dad and I used to do our date night and drive all the way to the Tracy one or to the Fresno one. On December 10, which is my birthday I had a big group of people be there about 830. I think there's about five of us and yes, they close in 30 minutes but I work at a restaurant also and that's where I want to celebrate my birthday and they were completely rude to me and pretty much telling us they didn't want to service because it was 830 and they close at nine. And the manager sam always picks on my family for some weird reason. He was trying to tell one of my friends that they couldn't sit somewhere or move a table because of ADA. And I told the server anybody with a brain knows to move if they see a wheelchair. And fast forward to Wednesday, the manager comes up to my husband, and I and says well you told my server that if she had half a brain so we can't serve you and you are no longer allowed here. Mind you , my mom and I " with my child" have been in there four times since December 10 2025, and the manager sam never said anything those four times, but wants to try to embarrass me in front of the one other table that was in the whole building. The server completely took my words out of context and now has ruined me going too my favorite restaurant. And I own a restaurant and I normally only eat local, but I love Famous Dave's so great job to the manager SAM at the Modesto location!! read more

SO HAPPY!!! When I found out that Famous Dave's was offering dine-in I was ecstatic. I'd been to this location once before and while the food was delicious, it was a bit of a pain to take it all the way back home to Stockton. We went on a Saturday so I was expecting a bit of a wait and there was one, but only about 20 minutes. It still shares a building with Johnny Carino's which is odd but it seems like Famous Dave's has taken over the majority of it. And it was jumpin'! We ordered a rib combo and a 2 meat combo and everything was just as I remembered-the ribs fell off the bone, the brisket was super tender, the beans were sweet with chunks of brisket, the mac and cheese had a little kick to it from the jalapenos and the corn muffin was sweet which is how I like them. It was DELICIOUS. The only hiccup was that the mac and cheese was lukewarm but I let our server know and he brought out a fresh one immediately. We also ordered some dessert to go, banana pudding and bread pudding. I had the bread pudding and it came with a caramel pecan sauce and vanilla ice cream and it was to die for! Enjoyed the BBQ. Very flavorful, but maybe a little dry. Loved the choices of extra sauce ranging from sweet & tangy to "burn your tongue"!! Decor was fun with a bar type atmosphere. We stopped at this location last week to pick up a large order for takeout. It was over a 45-minute wait so we walked around the mall while waiting for our food. I really hate to leave negative reviews and the majority of our experience here was quite negative, so let me say that even though I was shocked when I opened my burnt ends appetizer to see that there were literally four bite size pieces of meat that I had paid $18.99 for, the flavor and texture of the bird ends was definitely our favorite part of the entire meal and if I was rating the burnt ends on taste and quality alone, they would absolutely be five stars. That being said, I think it is a ridiculous portion for the cost of the item. I also opened my burger to find that it was literally small pieces of chopped meat on a plain bun. Please see the photos. We order take out a lot and we completely understand that many places don't want to put the condiments on the burger because it can make the bun soggy... I appreciate that. The problem here was that the bottom of the bun was already incredibly soggy just from the meat and that no condiments, no sauce, no veggies, not even a mayonnaise packet were included in our takeout order. No utensils were included either. We spent well over $100 and we were very disappointed in our meal. The only item besides the burned ends that we enjoyed at all were the nachos. I think whoever is in charge of the kitchen needs to pay better attention to the way that the food leaves the kitchen and the way takeout food is packaged. read more

Hubby's been wanting to check this place out for a while now. Sam, the manager, was welcoming when we first walked in. I was like "WOW" - what an awesome greeting. The food was really good and Caitlyn, our server, was very sweet and accommodating. I got a little annoyed because when you eat barbecue, you have extra napkins and plates and I just got annoyed that some of the other servers didn't bother to pick up our extra plates, which were in the way.
