1 Star - Extremely Disappointed!…read more I purchased tacos from this food truck for the first time four days ago, and they were delicious! The tacos were a normal street taco size, the portions were good, and I was impressed enough to come back. Well, that was a mistake! I ordered tacos again today, expecting the same quality and portion sizes, but instead, I was given what looked like miniature tacos! These tacos were literally smaller than the palm of my hand, and they charged a whopping $3 EACH! To make matters worse, each taco barely had half a spoonful of meat. I even took a picture because I couldn't believe how ridiculously small they were. You can clearly see the half-eaten jalapeño next to the taco for comparison. That's how tiny we're talking! What bothers me most isn't just the price. It's the inconsistency and the feeling of being ripped off. How do you serve normal-sized tacos one day and then turn around and charge the same price for tacos half the size just four days later? I don't know if the quality and portions change on weekends compared to weekdays, but that's no excuse. Customers should receive the same quality and value regardless of what day they visit. Honestly, I feel like they thought customers wouldn't notice or wouldn't say anything. Well, I noticed! It's disappointing because I genuinely enjoyed the food on my first visit and was looking forward to becoming a regular customer. Unfortunately, after today's experience, I won't be returning. $3 for a miniature taco with barely any meat? Absolutely ridiculous!

One afternoon in Hayward, my family and I showed up right at 6 PM, exactly at closing time. We had just left a family party but purposely held our appetite because our favorite Puerto Rican food truck was finally back in town. My wife and I were married in Old San Juan, and Puerto Rico will always hold a special place in our hearts. We even travel back to the island with our kids whenever we can. When Chef Darren saw how disappointed we were that we had missed them, he didn't turn us away. Even though they were already closed, he fired the grill back up and blessed our family with an incredible meal. That level of hospitality, heart, and genuine Puerto Rican warmth is rare. The food was absolutely amazing as always, authentic flavors that instantly take us back to the island, but the kindness and service meant even more to us. We'll always support Boriqua Kitchen. Truly the best Puerto Rican food in the Bay Area, served by people who treat you like family.

But if you're like me, and just hella sensitive to spicy foods, you gotta exercise caution with this one. My partner and I got food to go, two loaded burritos (one pakora fish, the other chicken masala), a Naan Chalupa with paneer masala, and a chai horchata! It did take about 30 minutes for it all to come together; but I urge you to remember that 'food truck' means 'mobile' and not 'fast food.' Good things come to those who wait! The Chai Horchata is SO GOOD! Like drinking a gingerbread cookie made especially for you by your grandma. I would go back for that alone. In fact, I regret not getting two because I'd definitely have delighted in not having to share. Swing by for that alone. Now the food? My partner ordered everything mild; which has got to be a relative thing because both burritos and the chalupa had such heat that I couldn't take more than a few bites of any of them before my mouth felt like it was on fire! I wish that I had any sort of tolerance because everything was so flavorful; incredibly flavorful! Just too dang hot for my wimpy tastebuds! The loaded chicken burrito was the messier of the two--downright greasy so be prepared! Ask for extra napkins or have some on standby if you take it to go. I'm coming back for you, Sizlin' Masala! Maybe not right away, but I'm coming back! Your food is so good! I just have to build up my spicy-heat-tolerance first!

It was what I'd expect in a busy New York deli. We waited nearly 20 minutes for our food, but my son said his chicken masala was a little cold inside of his burrito. He said it was just okay, not bad. My husband said his burrito was mushy and couldn't tell there was chicken in it. He wasn't impressed, and I was surprised after all of the glowing reviews. Fortunately, the samosas were fantastic. They were perfectly crispy outside, seasoned and soft inside, and the green sauce was the best. I'd return just for samosas and sauces. My butter chicken and garlic Naan were also amazing. We ordered two garlic Naans, but I expected more pieces. My husband reminded me that they weren't serving sizes of tortillas. Good point. They were so garlicky and fluffy that you might need two servings for one person. (Maybe it's enough if you order rice too, but we didn't order rice). I just dipped the Naan in the creamy butter sauce. They didn't give me a fork, and we were too lazy to walk back in the rain. I got full from the samosa and garlic Naan and still have butter chicken leftovers. 16 Oz is good for 3-4 small servings. The rich sauce is filling on its own.

This is what a Nashville hot chicken sandwich is supposed to be…read more Unlike a lot of the chains like Dave's where it can basically feel like a chicken tender thrown into a bun, Scratch serves a huge, thick piece of actual chicken breast. The portions are serious, the chicken is juicy, and the breading has a great crunch. What really sets them apart for me is the spice. I've had levels 3, 4, and 5, and they're not simply the same seasoning with progressively more heat. Each level actually has a different pepper profile and flavor. Level 3 brings cayenne and Thai chili, level 4 moves into Thai chili and habanero, and level 5 adds habanero and ghost pepper. You can taste the difference, not just feel more burn. The seasoned fries are great too and they definitely don't skimp on the portions. It is a little pricey for a chicken sandwich and fries, but when you see the size and quality of what you're getting, I think it's worth it. Scratch is easily one of my favorite hot chicken spots.

It was huge, juicy, and tasted absolutely amazing. The only downside was the customer service. The cashier gave us attitude when we asked how spicy level #3 was. He said it was like a habanero pepper, and when I asked again how spicy it actually was, he responded, "You've never had a habanero pepper?" That made me uncomfortable because I don't usually eat spicy food, and I don't work here to know your spice levels. There are tables inside, but the outdoor seating feels much nicer. The inside just has a weird vibe. We also got their IPA beer, which paired perfectly with the sandwich!

Fremont Street Eats is a lively outdoor community event organized by the city's Chamber of…read moreCommerce. It is located off a newly renovated street where new high rise development were put in to increase dwelling density and foot traffic. It is not quite there yet, but I can see where this is going. It is held in this square near a business park so there is plenty of parking. There is a grassy square where families like to lounge with picnic blankets and lawn chairs. There's usually a dj dishing out tunes, a beer and wine tent, and about 8-10 food trucks lined up in an organized fashion. It goes every Friday in the warm months so from May to October. If a holiday pops up on a Friday like 4th of July they will skip it. Starts at 5pm and goes to about 9pm. Bulk of the crowd goes from 6:30 - 8. I go to about 2-4 per year since 2017, with the exception of 2020 cuz y'all know why. You can see the food truck line up each week on their website or socials. So I like to scan that and if it looks promising then I'll text some friends/family if anyone wants to meet up after work on Friday. If the weather is nice, it is just a just a festive and social way to start a summer's weekend. Now even tho I like these events I don't always like food truck food. Sure it is trendy and you do get to sample and /or get stuff brought to you in one area. But I often just find many of the food to be just average at best at prices that rival sit down dining. So to me I like scoping these out occasionally but I don't think they are worth going to on a frequent basis. I also feel that there aren't enough places to sit and eat once you get your food from a truck. There is a small area where they put out portable picnic benches, but those fill up with just 20 people or so. Otherwise you have to sit on the lawn and come prepared with blanket or lawn chair, or find a concrete planter box to sit on, or go back to your car to eat. Another reason why food trucks events often leave me hanging. But bring a warm typical Bay Area summer's evening where it doesn't get dark til almost 9pm and you want to be amongst your community and commerce, this event will do you more than fine.

There was even some line dancing going on in the makeshift stage area at some point. Sound was not the greatest, the volume quite low even for a small event, but it was fine. There were about 8 food trucks to choose from, along with a few random vendor/service tents (like Bass Pro Shops). Decided on sliders and garlic fries from the Curveball food truck. The food was okay, good enough to satisfy my hunger (see my separate review on that). I snagged one of the few spots in the grass with shade on this hot evening, though they also have tables and seating here, partially shaded too. An actual restroom (not porta potties) on site, in the Fremont downtown event center building. Also, plenty of space available in the parking lot. This is a pretty low-key community event, free to attend and grab a bite to eat, and just hang out for an hour or two.
