I was looking for some good BBQ while in Modesto and I've always seen this place right outside of the Walmart on McHenry. I made a statement about the food better be good and the guy preparing our order said, no doubt it will be good as I am from TX. He was by himself so I had to cut him some slack. Took a star away because the greens were a little too salty n the Mac n cheese needed a little more flavor. It had the cheese pull but not enough flavor, seasoning that is. U also thought the ribs could have been a little more tender. The brisket was tasty as well as the links so I can't say it was a bust. Also plenty for the price. I'm always on the hunt for a solid BBQ spot, and today I found one. Smokin & Tippin BBQ is a food truck parked in a lot near Walmart on McHenry (around 3848 McHenry Ave). They've got two picnic tables under tents and a small parking lot (about 10-12 spots), plus plenty of additional parking just across the street within easy walking distance. I ordered the 2-meat combo ($25) with brisket and ribs, choosing collard greens and baked beans for my sides. My wife ordered the tri-tip sandwich with yams and baked beans. They were cool enough to sell me a 1-meat plate instead of forcing the combo, which saved me a few bucks--and I appreciated that. There's a $1 credit card fee, which didn't bother me at all. My wife loved her meal and said it was a lot of food and everything tasted great. My brisket had a nice bark and a legit smoke ring. The ribs were tender and fell right off the bone. The baked beans were solid, but the collard greens really stood out--some of the best I've had at a restaurant. Prices are average for BBQ, portions are generous, and I had enough left over for dinner later. You can tell this is real BBQ--they've got a huge BBQ pit smoking meats, and it shows in the flavor. The BBQ sauce was very good. The two guys working inside were friendly, answered all my questions, and made ordering easy. Highly recommend. I'll definitely be back. read more

Worst Bbq takeout we have ever had. Ordered 2 meats and 2 sides 27$. Brisket, ribs, mac & cheese and collard greens. The meats were fatty and overcooked. The greens were so salty that they were inedible. I ordered mac&cheese and when I opened the box at home was surprised to find macaroni salad. Stopped here this evening (few mins before he closed up) and the owner was so sweet and still let us order! He had great music playing and just had such a welcoming personality. You can smell how good the food was just walking up to order, and eating only confirmed how DELICIOUS it was! Definitely a good value as well. Food is off the chain. The truck is cute and clean. You cant beat the convenience. I was in Walmart too long and wandered in. I was super impressed. II used to live in Kentucky and miss real BBQ from the south. This is the first place that hits the mark. The brisket is the best I've had in years; everything was fresh and great. The food is home made so don't show up late; collard greens were out for the day when I went but I love my food; the truck owner was really kind, positive and energetic. Great service. And I mean that. On average about 5-10 minute wait for food. I paid a small amount of $18 for tri tip and a pull pork slider. As well as Mac and cheese and baked beans. Consistent with deliciousness in every bite with all the food I had tried. What I mean by that is everything tasted on point. I'm not gonna lie. The guy was very nice. I was just expecting a little bit more from the food. Macaroni is really stringy not very good at all my tri-tip sandwich had way too much barbecue sauce overall I don't think I'd come back again, which is a very good thing I tried it to begin with now I know, but I think to each their own because I feel like other people would like it just me personally, I did not location was perfect because I live down the street but yeah I don't think I'd ever come back again, but thank you so much and you were super sweet and whoever helped me out. read more

Tried this bbq truck yesterday and it is by far the best place for bbq in Modesto. Ordered the tritip and brisket with some Mac n cheese and beans. The beans for me were a little spicy but my husband loved them. The Mac n cheese was delicious. Very creamy and just the right amount of cheese. The bbq sauce they use is incredible. Cane with a side of toasted bread that I did not share because it was so good. Will definitely be going back here. My husband and I drove all the way from Stockton to get some BBQ and they were not there nor did they answer the phone. I first called 30 & then 15 minutes before they opened tp assure they would be open so I wouldn't make a dry trip and guess what? They didn't answer the phone and a dry trip was made. After calling SEVERAL times, I had my husband call, he left a VM and that's when they text him back to say that they had an earlier event and would be back by 12:30. How unprofessional and inconvenient of our time and gas!! I read a review from someone else complaining of something similar and I still took the chance and am very disappointed. Figure out a way to let customers know ahead of time if you will not be available or if your location has changed. And to not answer the phone after receiving several calls is ridiculous!
