Fremont Street Eats is a lively outdoor community event organized by the city's Chamber of Commerce. It is located off a newly renovated street where new high rise development were put in to increase dwelling density and foot traffic. It is not quite there yet, but I can see where this is going. It is held in this square near a business park so there is plenty of parking. There is a grassy square where families like to lounge with picnic blankets and lawn chairs. There's usually a dj dishing out tunes, a beer and wine tent, and about 8-10 food trucks lined up in an organized fashion. It goes every Friday in the warm months so from May to October. If a holiday pops up on a Friday like 4th of July they will skip it. Starts at 5pm and goes to about 9pm. Bulk of the crowd goes from 6:30 - 8. I go to about 2-4 per year since 2017, with the exception of 2020 cuz y'all know why. You can see the food truck line up each week on their website or socials. So I like to scan that and if it looks promising then I'll text some friends/family if anyone wants to meet up after work on Friday. If the weather is nice, it is just a just a festive and social way to start a summer's weekend. Now even tho I like these events I don't always like food truck food. Sure it is trendy and you do get to sample and /or get stuff brought to you in one area. But I often just find many of the food to be just average at best at prices that rival sit down dining. So to me I like scoping these out occasionally but I don't think they are worth going to on a frequent basis. I also feel that there aren't enough places to sit and eat once you get your food from a truck. There is a small area where they put out portable picnic benches, but those fill up with just 20 people or so. Otherwise you have to sit on the lawn and come prepared with blanket or lawn chair, or find a concrete planter box to sit on, or go back to your car to eat. Another reason why food trucks events often leave me hanging. But bring a warm typical Bay Area summer's evening where it doesn't get dark til almost 9pm and you want to be amongst your community and commerce, this event will do you more than fine. read more

A food truck mafia event taking place in downtown Fremont, weekly through October. DJ playing a mix of mainly pop and hip hop music through the speakers, from oldies to songs from the last decade, including My Girl, Blurred Lines, and Andy Grammer's Keep Your Head Up. There was even some line dancing going on in the makeshift stage area at some point. Sound was not the greatest, the volume quite low even for a small event, but it was fine. There were about 8 food trucks to choose from, along with a few random vendor/service tents (like Bass Pro Shops). Decided on sliders and garlic fries from the Curveball food truck. The food was okay, good enough to satisfy my hunger (see my separate review on that). I snagged one of the few spots in the grass with shade on this hot evening, though they also have tables and seating here, partially shaded too. An actual restroom (not porta potties) on site, in the Fremont downtown event center building. Also, plenty of space available in the parking lot. This is a pretty low-key community event, free to attend and grab a bite to eat, and just hang out for an hour or two. read more

What a fun experience! Apparently the city of Fremont hosts this every Friday during the warm summer months and invites a variety of food trucks via Food Truck Mafia. They also host a number of local vendors who also happen to give out prizes in these weekly raffles. It's an outdoor event at the Fremont Event Center and Plaza. There is outdoor seating with a few tables and a small field near the amphitheater. Bring a blanket, some seats, and even a table to enjoy an outdoor picnic with the friends and family. There's access to the clean and private bathrooms at the event center, which is a huge plus for families with young children. The food vendors (food trucks) were great and covered a diverse group of cuisine. Some more reasonably priced than others, but they were all very delicious and fresh. There's also a beer stand where they were collecting tips for scholarship programs. While dining and perusing the stalls and vendors, a DJ was broadcasting music and making announcements to bring attention to the raffle, upcoming community events, and vendors present. Very lively atmosphere! Overall, this is a fun family friendly outing and a great way to connect with local community members while benefiting local businesses. Definitely a must try and an anticipated return visit! read more

We chose Roadside Rotisserie & bought a whole chicken, 2 orders of spare ribs, and the half & half brussel sprouts/potatoes & 2 Kona shaved ice. All we bought were delicious! Service was great too! The location is clean with lots of parking space. A good time for family. Lots of music & friendly atmosphere while we were there. We'll definitely go again. read more

Fremont Street Eats was having a Backyard BBQ / Chalk Art Contest the weekend before the 4th of July since they would be taking that weekend off. Lots of food trucks and kids all around as I checked it out. Lots of variety in the food offered -- I remember Korean BBQ, French Dips, Sushi, Chinese, and Desserts (Cupcakes, Cookies, Pies). Wow. It was almost not worth the drive. There were only 4 trucks that showed up. Maybe this is normal for the quaint little area known as the Alvarado Niles District. In any case, I made the drive and decided to try my luck. While I was waiting for the event to begin, 5pm, I decided to do a little menu checking online. Out of the Cave seemed to have some healthy choices, so I ventured there. It seems like the rest of this review should be for Out of the Cave. This was my first time at the Fremont Street Eats! I found about it through Facebook, so I thought I'd check it out. The environment is really chill, no long lines or difficulties. But I don't think it gave me the whole food truck feel with such a small crowd. I did enjoy not waiting long for my food but the wait is what I've come to expect from food trucks. There was also music playing, and lots of kids were dancing, that was adorable! They played Gangnam Style and one kid actually knew the dance moves to it! Haha. There's also some chairs and tables to sit at. Some people brought their own lawn chairs to sit and eat, while others sat on the curb. The food was good though! I got the Twister Cone burrito- cool concept. I wish there was more meat, but overall, I liked my purchase. Only $7 and it kept me full! A bonus is they took credit card, because I forgot cash! I noticed a few of the other trucks didn't take card. I'm planning to go next week with a different group of friends, so maybe it'll be different! It was sprinkling that day, so maybe it deterred people from coming? read more

In Fremont, Food Truck Mafia hosts the event called Fremont Street Eats! Every Friday on Capitol Ave between Liberty & State from 4:30-9:00 PM, a ton of food trucks park and serve hungry Fremont residents, who can enjoy yummy food truck food, music, chalk painting, line dancing, etc.! I'm really sad that I've lived one town over from Fremont and I didn't know that this event happened every Friday! This summer, I've been here twice and had a good time both times. There are so many options for both savory food and desserts that it can be overwhelming, but I'd rather have more than less! I would definitely recommend the garlic fries from Mario's French Dips and the kimchi tacos from Streets of Seoul! SO yummy! Also, I was lucky enough to catch Frozen Kuhstard there last time and was lucky to get their last matcha waffle cone of the day. Delicious! My only qualm with the event is that the food trucks do seem to run out of most of the their items if you come 2-3 hours after the start time so beware if you're searching for a specific food item! I've only been to about four different trucks so far but I always enjoy what I order! All the trucks have pretty small menus but there is great variety between them all, making you want one of everything! Recently I've come across Smothered and have completely fallen in love, I hope they are around more often! This location could really use a lot more tables and chairs to help out with the decent sized crowd they get; I usually take my orders home because there is no space. This is MY GO-TO SPOT every Thursday from 5-8pm :). I think they close at 9pm but I usually leave WELL before then (it gets dark, cold and food runs out by 8:30). I have been lucky (or unlucky) enough to be funemployed for the past gazillion Thursdays, thereby giving me a chance to eat here every week. Being the regular that I am, I can say that the quality is surprisingly good for a San Lorenzo food truck meet-up. Let's be real, this is no "Off The Grid," but trucks from "Off The Grid" do visit here on occasion, so if you keep an open mind and eye out, you could find some really delicious eats. Now onto the good stuff: THE TRUCKS! The GOOD: My Shrimp Shack*, 510 Burger, Cluck It Up*, Twister, Go Streatery, Bibigo*, 333, Kinder's BBQ, Siva Indian Food. The MEDIOCRE: Hongry Kong*, Pizza Pimps*, Street Dogs. The BAD: TrUckin' Sweet*, Blue Saigon Fusion Grill* * = regulars. They are parked at Food Truck Mafia more weeks than not. Elaboration on the GOOD trucks: For great shrimp plates and authentic Pacific Islander food, eat at My Shrimp Shack. I recommend the longanisa musubi (delicious) and the shrimp and rice plate. 510 burger has the juiciest burgers (and soft buns!) around and when not at FTM, you can find them parked behind Walmart on Davis St. every Saturday. Cluck it Up has uniquely flavored wings (bacon and cheese). Twister has some great fusion burritos and tacos (they roll with Off The Grid) and the same goes for 333. Go streatery is hands down, the best food truck in this joint. Serving unique, new American or "peasant" food, their brisket sliders, zeppoles and watermelon lemonade alone kill the competition. YOU MUST TRY THIS TRUCK! Kinder's BBQ truck is a famous mobile version of their Fremont location and can be seen at the Eat Real food festival in Jack London Square every year. Siva has some of the best Indian food I've ever had. I recommend the samosas and dosa. MEDIOCRE: Hongry Kong isn't bad but they need to try harder on taste and food preparation/presentation. Granted, they have potential. Their dan tat or flaky egg tarts are delicious! But their food is too oily/greasy. I understand that's how HK food is, but you need to translate it better into food truck culture. For example, their bacon-wrapped siu mai is yummy but VERY oily. My sister once got a spaghetti plate and it was swimming in oil. If they can manage their food preparation better, they might attract a bigger following. Pizza Pimps is nothing special. Just your typical "junk" type of food: pizza-wrapped hot dogs and pizza slices. Still, they don't taste bad. Just minus a few stars for lack of originality. The Street Dogs truck can be found anywhere including Off The Grid but I just never found them tasty. I'd much rather get a hot dog from Doggy Style in Alameda or Casper's for that matter. BAD: Truckin' Sweet, I love you for trying every week but you just don't compare to other dessert places out there. The ice cream is usually too icy and bland (especially the POG flavor) and the cupcakes don't hold together well, they fall apart when I eat them. The one redeeming factor is their ice cream floats. Yummy! Plus they always try to spice it up with unique flavors and their young staff is friendly. Blue Saigon truck has a great idea to revolutionize Vietnamese food truck cuisine, but they don't execute it well. Serving hot pho in a cup? Sorry, but that's just a bad idea. They should just stick with bowls. Being Vietnamese myself, this truck disappoints. NOTE: If a truck isn't on here, I either didn't try it or it wasn't memorable. Overall, FTM is a great time for the whole family. Too bad this event is seasonal and closes in the winter. The lines, seating and wait for food aren't too bad either. I must have missed the memo since this is THE place to be in SLZ on Thursday night. Arrived a little after 6PM to a play ground of 7-8 food trucks. A huge variety to choose from; sushi, Thai, pizza, hot dogs, Mexican, shrimp & adobo, cupcakes and ice cream and my new favorite The Blast Off truck that has yummy sandwiches. There are a couple of tables with chairs, a bounce house and a DJ. It is just as large as the Off the Grid in Hayward on Monday nights but not nearly as much tables with chairs and tents for shade. Plan on bringing a chair, some silverware (some trucks "run out") and a beverage if you want to be comfortable. While there it was busy. People of all ages were getting their food truck grub on. On my way to dinner on Friday and drove pass Fremont Street Eats. I then promptly ditched my dinner plans and decided to join the event. It was already almost closing, but still a fair amount of people in line for food. We got the fish taco from the Twister truck. They are $3 each so not too bad and I really love the guac sauce on top. Also saw Hungry Kong there, so I got the Curryious George with pork cutlet and fried rice for $7. Now that was the highlight. The pork chop was fried perfectly and the curry on top was thick and flavorful. One thing to keep in mind though, the event ends at 9:00 pm and the coordinators will take away all the tables and chairs on the dot! Personally I don't really care, I can eat standing up. But I did see someone got really pissed off and started yelling the event coordinators. Please do not act that that person, those are the people who always ruin it for everyone. I came here for the first time this year and I was not impressed, they didn't have many food trucks and the ones they had weren't a very good selection. I mainly went there for My Shrimp Shack but boy was I disappointed, the shrimp was not too flavorful and still had the veins in it and the rice was very mushy...I don't think I will be coming back, all the Off The Grid locations are way better and I will keep frequenting those. read more

I am a regular at Food Truck Mafia of Fremont from last summer. They used to set it up on Capitol Ave in between State and Hastings. Recently moved to the Town Fair Plaza. I love this event. First of all its fun for kids - lots of music, activities and of course food. The time just fly by if you go there. It wasn't that convenient when it was conducted on Capitol Ave. But looks like they have found a great place for this at Town Fair Plaza. I will start with the ambience- lots of lights and music the dome. They have arranged a lot of seats to sit and relax while having your food . They do have an amazing DJ. You could see people dancing for the popular numbers. Feel free to join them, kids would love that. They used to have at least 7-8 food trucks every Friday. I have seen lesser numbers during the fall time. Otherwise you will have pretty good options. Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Mexican and Indian food trucks are quite regular there. Often you will see Mediterranean and Burger/Sandwich, Nepalese trucks as well. Options are in plenty every week. They used to arrange a few games for the kids as well. On a Friday evening, if you want to relax a little with your family/friends, this is a great option. Shame that its only in Summer-Fall timeframe. Please try it out, its worth it. read more

The variety of food choices can be hit or miss. They come to my 'hood every Friday so I decided to check it out. I ended up going to a pho - Asian fusion truck and ordered some curry. Pho'nomenal something or other. The orders came out pretty quickly and the curry was piping hot and relatively tasty. Next time Mozzeria is there, I'll have to check that out because I've heard good things about them. The last time I went, the choices of trucks were just okay. It's AOK. read more

I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to Fremont street eats! I just wish there were more trucks, so I could try more! The food I had was good, but just a heads up, it wasn't as good as off the grid. The first place I went to was my shrimp shack. Here I had the Lois and coconut shrimp. The lumpia was good, butttt I could've passed on the coconut shrimp. The coconut flavor was there, the shrimp just wasn't. It was flattened and butterflies to nothing. No wonder it only cost five bucks. The Lumpia was good though. Couldn't check in either. Their location is in hayward or San Lorenzo or something usually, so I was "too far away" to check in. Hmph. Lol Next place I tried was an Indian spot in the corner. It was called mantyalaah or something along those lines. They didn't have a yelp page, and that was lucky for them.y experience started by waiting in line for several minutes (I was the only one in line). By the time they came around to paying attention to me, I got the naan wrap. It came with a grilled veggie patty (or lack thereof), cheese, lettuce, tomato, and chutney. It wasn't decent. I was thrown off, however, after he took my money, made me wait longer than I should have, and the health sanitation person walked out of his truck posting a yellow "conditional pass" on his truck. Uhhhhhhh.... For that reason, I was super nervous to try it. I had three bites, just to know what it was about, then stopped...you know, bc you just have no idea what made them post conditional. The rice rockin truck was bomb!! Chicken teriyaki and rice was delicious. Can't go wrong with that!!! I didn't get a chance to try the bbq truck, but their truck smelled amazing. The pulled pork looked to die for! Yum! Of course I had the kettle corn, and that was good too. How can you mess that up? Haha The good thing about this, though, is that the trucks change from week to week. Sure the Indian truck will go and their will be a new one to replace it next week. Hell yeah. San Lorenzo Street Eats returned on 4/18, and I was finally able to buy from some of the food trucks again last night. The event is every Thursday from 5-9 p.m. There was a bounce house last night. It was inflated around 7. At one point, a "DJ" welcomed everyone, and some good songs were played (ex: "Africa" by Toto; "Meet Me Halfway" by The Black Eyed Peas; "I Wanna Be Your Lover" by Prince). A ton of people were around, and so the music made things even more festive. There were a few tables, and they were full the whole time I was around (from about 7-7:35). Many people took their food to go, and I saw 3 people eat their food inside their jeep. A young woman sometimes went around with a broom and dustpan. A man represented the area by wearing a San Lorenzo Village Homes T-shirt (they're given out for free at some Association events). Truckin' Sweet: It was a bit hot outside, and so a lot of people wanted "Small Batch Ice Cream and Desserts." I was tempted to buy a Float. Pizza Pimps: The woman who took orders and called out numbers did a great job. She and the guy in the truck really worked hard. I had to wait about 8 minutes for my order. Customers who just ordered pizza slices only had to wait about 5 minutes. The mac and cheese was good, and the macaroni pieces were quite big. The bacon was a little fatty, but otherwise okay. I mainly liked the crunchy pieces. The potato chip crumble was solid, and so was the pulled pork (I wish there had been a bit more of it). Most people will get full if they order one, and so I also applaud this item for being a great value. Blast Off! It started to work when I was around, but it's good that I always buy food with cash. -There were a ton of ketchup packets, but they were running low on napkins. -The cashier was somewhat friendly, but not overly so (I don't blame her, but she seemed stressed- there didn't seem to be enough workers to handle all the orders). I was shocked, quite frankly, that so many customers left tips (it's like some of them couldn't wait to get rid of their change). -There were really no plastic utensils. A guy received a plastic spoon instead of a fork or knife (it was the middle of the night- it would have been more excusable if there were no utensils around 9). -Some items were on toasted bread, and the bread looked burnt (I could easily see inside the truck). I felt bad for those customers. Drinks: $2. There were some other choices, but I only saw customers buy bottled water. My patty could have also been cooked a shade longer. Still, it was delicious. There's cheese inside the patties. My cheese was nice and gooey (it dripped out like someone with a runny nose). I received 2 pieces of bacon (they were stuck together like me and my wife). They were fairly meaty and good. In general, you should be given more cheese and bacon. Have been into the Pacific Commons and Mission Valley ROP venues. It seemed that the Pacific Commons event was a little bit more organized, although parking was a bit more challenging than at the ROP location. For the ROP location there were contradicting FB/Twitter feeds about one of the trucks that was announced in the line-up. It was the Wow truck, and it ended up not being there, which was a disappointment. Rice Rockit was another one we were waiting for but it had arrived late. We had waited a while and did not open by the time we left. :( One highlight was that we were finally able to try the Sanguchon truck (Peruvian) and its amazing Pan Con Chicharrone sandwich. I am hoping Food Truck Mafia can bring a little bit more variety in the truck line-up and get their participating trucks on the same page on the scheduling. read more

Food Trucks! I love food and I love the gourmet food trucks and I love that it is within walking distance from home (this can also be a bad thing!) Every Friday in the Mission ROP parking lot in Fremont (on the corner of Stevenson and Farwell) 7-8 gourmet food trucks converge from 4pm to 9pm from the last Friday in April until the end of October. A DJ spinning the beats, tables and chairs to eat your food truck goodies at and a crowd of foodies fooding at a variety of trucks (An always rotating list of trucks, so you can try something new every week) If the tables are filled, find a spot on a curb, eat standing up or bring a folding chair in your car so you are always guaranteed a seat. Prices on the trucks range from the low end of $3 (scoop of gourmet ice cream with a mix-in) to around $9-$10 (or more) for seafood plates. Little Red Riding Truck has awesome German food. The Schnitzel is awesome either way...with bacon and onions topping or with the mushroom sauce. I just discovered you can get Half&Half!! So I'm in love with this dish. So flavorful, the meat is tender and juicy and melts in my mouth. read more

I love trying out new, funky things at the Food Trucks, and the Fremont Street Eats delivers! My thing I like to go around and hit the trucks Tapas style! Try something here and there, getting a taste of the whole world in a meal. I don't want to see a hot-dog truck, I want to see a truck wrap a hot-dog with a pizza (Pizza Pimps), or a hot-dog with Kimchi, lettuce and cheese (MoGos). We visited the Fremont Street Eats at Mission Valley ROP (4:30-9pm at 5019 Stevenson Blvd., Fremont, CA, 94538) for the first time on Oct 19. It was a good sized crowd, but with only one exception (Grillaz Gone Wild), the lines for the food trucks were short. However, if you're going to eat there, bring your own chairs, as the ones FSE provides were basically all filled when we arrived. It was kind of cold that night too, so we ended up taking our food to-go. We tried three trucks: Munch India: Two $5 orders of tacos (one shrimp, one beef) gets you two of each taco. The tacos tasted very good -- nice Indian flavor w/out being too spicy -- but the hard shells weren't very crunchy. Not sure if they were under-toasted or if they just got soggy on the drive home. Kinder's BBQ: We split one order of tequila lime fries for $3, which came with a sweet, creamy dipping sauce. Tasty, although the fries tasted a lot like BBQ potato chips, as opposed to tequila lime. That's Sweet!: We split a vanilla salted-caramel cupcake (good, but a bit too salty), and a red velvet cupcake (excellent). They were out of the peanut butter cupcake, which was our first choice before red velvet. These regular-sized cupcakes were $3 each. (Incidentally, the man running That's Sweet's truck raved about Munch India, saying they're one of the best food trucks around.) All-in-all, we were happy with the food, and will definitely try another Fremont Street Eats or Food Truck Mafia event in the future. read more

How did I not know they were here? I heard that next Thurs will be the last day. I might be wrong (I hope!). Came here at 8:30pm. Got off work early and was thinking of what to get for dinner, then I saw the food trucks calling my name! Went to Bibigoq and got the Korean spicy pork over rice. It was legit! Came with a really yummy salad too. It was a good balance. Then headed over to Spiceitupcafe for cinnamon donuts. The donuts were like little cinnamon clouds. My husband (who is not a fan of cinnamon) had some and like it too! Delish! Their Thai Tea was not bad. It was nice to have a hot drink on a cool night like tonight. Both trucks very friendly, really yummy food, and the wait was not too long. Hope they're here to stay in San Lo! read more

I love the collection of trucks that are here, and its not always the same trucks. really nice fun thing to do on Friday nights. they even have live music every last Friday of the month. Grillz gone wild, curry up now, 3-3-3 are some of my favorites. do check this out they even give out some stuff on raffle, not every time though. read more

Food trucks and drinks, what more could you ask for! I love food trucks, So much that sometimes I find myself driving around looking for them..kind of strange but who cares! Street eats is pretty awesome several trucks take over the street and offer up some delectable goods. I tried some shrimp garlic curly fries from the three brothers kitchen and it was bomb city while my gf got a bahn mi sandwhich, also pretty damn tasty. Had some beer and sangria and we called it a night. My first experience.. Pretty good. It's worth a shot! read more

Really? The food is so so at best--(Thai) has no consistency what so ever and they made us wait for over 30 mins on 9/9 and the order was messed up--who the heck will go back and wait for another 30 mins to get that straightened? It was so simple 3 orders all Pad Thai and Basil Chicken and all three came out different--with one of them having a yellow creamy curry chicken, second with only pad Thai in it and third with pad thai and some chicken with no basil flavor--very heavy on salt. On 9/9 even the Indian truck was missing (husband loved their nan-sandwich during earlier visit). 4 out of 7 trucks offer some variation of Mexican food--tacos/burritos! Nothing exotic there (or international either). Common guys this one is not even worth a second visit. I know Fremont really sucks when it comes to good restaurants, we only have a handful but even then, this is not the place if you have a selective palate (even street food can be real yummy)--Check out the SF trucks instead of spending your Friday evening in an overcrowded parking in Fremont's Pacific Commons. For someone who did her college education in NY, and virtually survived on Grease Trucks and Street Food--the variety and service provided by the Fremont Street Eats is just lame. The music and atmosphere is very upbeat though, hence the extra star. It is also family and kid friendly if you have nothing else to do--but don't expect any kiddie food, even the yogurt/icecream is soy based. read more
