The food was not bad, they cook it fresh like all Mongolian restaurants. The place was not as clean as I anticipated. The cooks who take your food are also not friendly. If you have questions about their line of sauces, don't bother asking. I had the guy tell me, "Have you ever had Mongolian bbq before?!" Ok I won't ask you unkind sir! I'm giving them a 2.5 because the quality wasn't bad and the lady who came to our table was nice in serving us soup, rice, egg rolls and our drinks. This place is a favorite for me and my family. My son calls it the "Noodle Store." We go probably every other week or so. The delicious food and wonderful service are what keep us coming back. The young man in the front with curly hair was amazing in the front , I didn't get his name or to ask his name he was a busy man and the young lady I overheard her name I think it was Bianca they work so fast , never in my life have I seen such amazing customer service and people move like that ! Coming here on a Saturday for lunch was the best choice. It was a little busy, but we were able to get our food cooked right away. There are a variety of options of meat from beef to lamb to chicken. There's many veggies to choose from and of course to top it all off, egg noodles. After picking your meats, veggies and adding your noodles, there's many sauces to add to your bowl. There's a sign right above the sauces that suggests what to add and how many scoops. If your food needs more sauces, they employees will ask what you would like to add. When arriving to your table, there's a complimentary bowl of white rice and miso soup. You can order a few extra things like cream cheese Rangoon and veggie egg rolls. The food is pretty good and with the right amount of sauce, it's perfect. I really enjoyed the customer service because everyone there was very friendly and extremely kind. They were working very hard and always on their toes. There were two individuals cooking the food, one cashing, one prepping the ingredients and cleaning the floors, and one that was serving the customers. The customer service and food were excellent. It's a place I'm definitely returning to. I do strongly believe that if there was more maintenance and cleanliness of the restaurant, this place will be overflowing with customers. read more

I hadn't been to a Mongolian BBQ in way too long. What we have in Ohio is completely different. Mongolian BBQ was always my "go to" before leaving California. GK was a much needed treat! The places I had always gone to usually had lamb as a meat choice but GK didn't. I had forgotten about the peanut butter sesame biscuits. Once they came into my line of site, it was love . I love the varieties of veggies and sauces. If I was in Modesto or Stockton, I would definitely go to GK Again. For now, I will just dream and keep hoping someone comes to Ohio to start a real Mongolian BBQ. read more

My plate had no flavor at all, and was very dry with little sauce. I ended up throwing it out since it wasn't worth eating. Both times I had it delivered. So this place has increased in price like 30% since last year and they are offering less and less. They switched from complimentary egg roll with your meal to a crappy old tasting potsticker. It's like 12.50 at least for a takeout order and it used to be under 10 bucks a year or so ago. I used to tip a lot more than I do now on account of the increase in prices. I was here the other day and some dudes walked in without masks and they were asked to leave but when I was waiting for my bowl to be cooked a cockroach the size of a dog crawled between my feet as I was sitting at a table. Floor feels greasy, place smells greasy, and if there were cockroaches oh the floor there are probably cockroaches on the other surfaces, like the cooking surface my food was being prepared on. Wonder what this place looks like at night, probably the most night time action Modesto has seen since covid, hopefully they're wearing masks, cuz the dog sized cockroach I stepped on this day was not. read more

Outstanding! Outstanding! Outstanding! This store had the BEST customer service I've ever seen hands down in my 25 years of life. Juan and Nai were the absolute greatest. I was greeted as soon as I entered, Juan was patient and friendly when I couldn't see the drink options, they made jokes and gave tips on how to build a great bowl, recommended sauces since it was my first time. I was asked and told about my toddler eating free after 3:30pm, and Juan even ran and grabbed the door for me as I was leaving. The food was piping hot and delicious. We liked the outcome of the food, but the place is filthy. The beef bin was empty and took about 10 minutes to be filled. The vegetable counter was very messy, the soda machine tray was overflowing and the staff was overwelmed. Simple drink orders were confusing to server and refilled never happened. Instead of just barging in and grabbing a bowl like maybe I should have done, I actually ASKED the blonde near the front door if they were still open, mostly just to be polite thinking they were because the open light was still lit and they were still people in line making their food. She pulled her phone out looked at it and said no sorry.....WTF! I advised I just need One quick to go bowl and that your open sign is still on and people are still in here being served.... Safe food handling practices don't appear to be a priority here. The guests aren't required to wash hands, use sanitizer, or wear gloves when handling the food serving utensils. Yes, they have sanitizer and gloves at the beginning on the food bar, but nobody is regulating or enforcing the compliance of usage. I asked a gentleman to put gloves on and he just looked at me and continued to touch all of the utensils after touching his face, nose, & beard. I informed the employee about it, they told the gentleman, the gentleman said "sorry", and the employee said "it's all good, then continued to go about business..... I'm over this place. Sorry, but I want the gear used when strangers are handling the ingredients to food items I will be eating ... also, I'm not sure if the A/C works because it was very hot while we were inside. My wife and I were about to leave because of that alone, but decided to give it a chance, but that was until I saw that the utensils were contaminated and the employee just left the utensils there for use. read more

My wife is allergic to only shrimp and obviously we didn't order any. We had ordered a build your own and she had gotten a really bad allergic reaction and fortunately we didn't need to go to hospital. But this means the food handling was very poor. There should be a separate station with separate cooking utensils with shrimp orders. Anyone else who has this allergy is not safe and this has to change. read more

Unbelievable to say the least because a couple years age there was a nut in the bowl of noodles. I think whoever the manager is, they are to check their cooks. I just finished eating at Modesto's GK Mongolian BBQ and found it to have declined dramatically since the first few times I ate there. While the food was satisfactory, and the chef thoughtful, the workers friendly, but the cleanliness of the tables left much to be desired. MUCH. For example, because of the high number of tables that had not been cleaned, it took a moment to find one that was available, that and there was hardly anyone eating there. Almost all of the messy stations (at least 8) sat there until near the time we were ready to leave. There was staff to clean them, but they were doubling up on the register, walking by collecting a tip and leaving dishes, or half cleaning a station and wandering off to do something else. Most of the time I observed what turned out to be a staff member watching all of this from the counter. To his minimal credit, he finally put on an apron and helped (20 mins earlier would have been nice). I snapped a few pics just to document what I say because of course, someone will want to deny this. My companion saw it too. I hate to see a place run in such a manner, but I guess some patrons will go for about anything. It will be a while before I return if at all. read more

When we arrived no staff greeted us and we decided to go towards the veggie bar. We had to avoid stepping on bits of food that were on the ground and when we got to the counters at the veggie bar they were covered in food. The utensils meant to grab the food were thrown all over the place, including one that was on the ground. It looked like no one had cleaned the area since opening and by this point it was pretty late in the day. The level of cleanliness made me so uncomfortable that I left without ordering. Hopefully I just came by at a bad time and it usually doesn't look like that but I haven't gone back since so I'm not sure. read more

I told her what it said online & she got snippy & just flat out rude! You would think with just re-opening to customers indoors you would have better customer service skills. This place has gone WAY downhill. My sister, mom and I went here to eat tonight and we were extremely disappointed to say the least. First of all when we were waiting in line for our food to be cooked on the grill the lady that worked there cut everyone else and cooked her food first while the rest of us were waiting in line! So unprofessional and rude to everyone who was waiting. Second they didn't even cook the food on the grill long enough they went one time around and was cooking for like maybe a minute. Meanwhile the worker that cut us cooked her food 5 time around the grill! My noodles and my moms and sisters were still clumped together and hard and the broccoli was hard it was almost inedible. And the soup and rice they served was cold also. They need to get new management or better people working for them or something. I'm surprised they are even still in business. read more

I was so happy when I learned GK Mongolian BBQ was coming to Modesto! I used to frequent the original establishment in Stockton when I was a student at UOP. While I don't crave Mongolian BBQ on a daily basis, every once and while I need to get my fix. GK Mongolian BBQ officially opened for business in Modesto on Friday, 7/16. I popped in for a quick lunch prior to commencing a little retail therapy. This location is very open and roomy. When I first entered, I didn't notice anyone to acknowledge my presence or to tell me to "go ahead and get started and I'll get a table for you." Finally I was noticed so I started filling up my bowl. I personally don't put any of the meat in my bowl. To compensate, I try to put plenty of fresh veggies in my bowl. After I put the sauces on my food and handed the bowl to the man at the wok, he asked if I would like additional veggies since they shrink down a little when cooked. Sure! He proceeded to add additional produce. While waiting for my food, I was asked by three different staff members if I was dining in or take away. Each time I replied dining in. When my BBQ was finished I was directed to a table. I had a prime seat for people watching and I must say I was very entertained. Each group of people that came in after me literally had no idea about the etiquette or rules of Mongolian BBQ dining. One man went to table (set up for a couple who were waiting for their food to cook) and took the hot sauce so he could make sure his food cooked in this sauce. Um, ok. The other people in his group gave the cook their bowls and then sat down before they finished cooking. Hmm. One of the employees brought them their food. So why only three stars? Well, I realize that they have only been open a week, but this is a chain. The soup was not flavorful like the other locations and it wasn't hot. The rice was warm, not hot and really clumpy. Also, the veggies were not well chopped. I had some huge pieces of zucchini that were like 1/2 inch thick and others that were extremely thin. On the plus side, the staff were friendly. I really hope that some of these kinks are worked out soon. I really enjoy GK in the other locations I've tried, but Modesto GK is not quite there yet. read more

I have came to this location a few times over the last 8-9 years, most recently this Friday. It's no secret that the inside is outdated and doesn't look the cleanest but the food is good and veggies are always fresh. My issue is why they simply do not allow you to take your food home and are essentially promoting wasted food when you're paying for all you can eat. We had 2 adults and 2 kids. We were charged full price for our dinner, our son was free and our daughter was 7$. Needless to say our kids didnt finish their food because it was alot. Despite choosing all you can eat, we all had 1 bowl each. When it was time to go we asked if we could have 2 to go containers for our kids to take their unfinished food home. We were told that if we did, our kids would he charged full price. We paid 36$ for all of our meals and instead of providing 2 to go containers we were told we couldnt have boxes. I dont understand why they are so against to go containers, if you're paying for the food you should be able to take it home. Refusing containers is promoting wasted food and it's just not ok. We wont be coming back here due to the rude staff and wasteful business practices. read more
