I have fond memories of GK Mongolian BBQ from when I was in college. The food was inexpensive, tasty, and filling which is perfect for a college student. Fast forward years later and GK Mongolian BBQ opens in Turlock. My husband tried it when it first opened and did enjoy it but for some reason we never went back. We were in the mood for going out but wanted something quick. We decided to give it a try. We were promptly greeted upon entering and told to go ahead and start our meal prep. Lots of choices of meats and fresh veggies. There are also a lot of sauces to choose from which can be overwhelming. They recommend one scoop of each but I say if you have a preference for certain ones then you do you! It is fun to watch your food be cooked in front of your eyes and presented to you as soon as it is ready. Our food tastes good and was reasonably priced. The service was good and the restaurant was clean. I don't think it will be on our regular rotation because my husband is not a fan of noodles in Asian cuisine but I would still say it's a solid choice. read more

The staff very friendly. They accept google and samsung pay here. The staff explained the process to me since it was my first time here. They provided a bowl of rice, soup and appetizers. The mongolian bbq station was stocked with local produce, which were all fabulous. Toppings included baby corn, carrots, shredded cabbage, tofu, noodles, spinach. They had a luttle white board explainibg where the produce came from. V we ry awesome. Line for the grill cooks to cook your food was initially fast at 11am due to the low number of customers in the morning but approaching lunch hour. 12noon the line got extremely long and took 30 minites to get my food cooked. I enjoyed the sauces they had . The popular sauce appeared to be teriyaki and the lpbster sauxe. G K Mongolian BBQ is one of my favorite places to eat. The food is always delicious, the ingredients are fresh, and the service is friendly. The restaurant is very clean, well maintained, and has a nice, quiet atmosphere that makes it enjoyable to dine there. The only thing I find frustrating is the bowl policy. You are expected to put everything into a single bowl, whether you choose the small or medium size. As someone who likes to stay organized, I prefer keeping my meats on one side and my vegetables on the other, or sometimes using separate bowls while deciding what I want. Unfortunately, one of the cooks regularly reminds customers that everything has to fit into one bowl, and being corrected in front of other guests can feel a little embarrassing. I completely understand that the restaurant has rules and portion guidelines, but I wish this policy were explained clearly when customers first walk in or posted somewhere visible. That way, people would know what to expect ahead of time instead of being reminded publicly while serving themselves. Overall, this is still a wonderful restaurant with great food, good service, and a clean, pleasant environment. We visit this place when we travel through the area, it is something I always look forward to. The restaurant is not always the most clean, but they make up with how good the food is. You go in and prep your bowl and they cook it in front of you. They use a lot of oils because that's how the meat and the noodles cook, and you add whatever oil you want. The service is decent, we usually have to go up to them to ask for stuff, but they're polite. Overall, I love the food so we keep coming back, but their service could be elevated. read more

The family was craving some fresh veggies and we decided on GK Mongolian so we could finally chow down on some broccoli. We waited all day to go. The moment we walked in, we were instantly disgusted. The meat trays were nearly empty with just scraps left behind. There were noodles hanging over the sides of the bar, and food was scattered all over the counter area like no one cared to clean or restock anything. As fast as we walked in excited to eat, we walked out even faster. My wife was absolutely adamant that we would not be eating here after seeing the condition of that food bar. And she was right. **ZERO STARS - First and Last Visit!** Terrible experience. I asked our server, Daniela, if there was a vegetarian alternative to the meat potstickers we were served. She told me there was no substitute and the only vegetarian option available was 3 egg rolls for $6.99. She asked if I wanted to order them, and I clearly said NO. Despite this, a few minutes later she brought them out anyway. At that point, I assumed they might have been a courtesy appetizer, since I hadn't agreed to order them. Unfortunately, I was wrong, since I was charged $6.99 for something I explicitly declined. To make matters worse, when I asked for my receipt and held out my hand, she ignored it and placed the receipt on the counter instead. Extremely rude. Stopped for some Mongolian Bbq. I had the shrimp today. Was greeted right away and the team was very cheerful with great customer service and the place was clean. I'm a very simple gal so to me the highlight is their egg flower soup and the yummy oiled peanuts, they put on the table! Love my potsticker too. read more

Food was sooooo good. I didn't know it was all you can eat for dinner. I was full off my bowl already but good to know for future reference. Elaine was our Host/Server, she was very kind and answered all our questions we had. (It was our first time here). I love that you can pick your food yourself and customize exactly how you want. The cooks were also very nice. I left both a tip. The sides you get included for the price was definitely a bonus. People complaining about how messy it is, I didn't see that part at all. I had this restaurant mapped out & selected as a pre-concert, pre-event meal before attending the nearby Stanislaus Co. Fair. Was a little worried going in with some of the other reviews, but it didn't disappoint! The staff was really friendly & accommodating to me, an out-of-towner visiting the restaurant for the 1st time. Mongolian spots being my favorite when visiting new towns, I chose the 1 bowl take out option here. Bowls are pretty huge, comparatively speaking and easily make two full meals. Plus, they even throw in a couple of tasty pot-stickers, a small white rice AND a free drink...all for under $20 bucks. Deal! The bowl prep area layout isn't as huge as others I've been to, but still has all the toppings that I've found at any other similar spot. Tons of sauce options at the end. Gosh, I couldn't imagine doing the AYCE (all-you-can-eat) option here. You'd have to be HELLA hungry, like not having eaten in 2 weeks maybe? This spot also thankfully has a smarter system over others in that they bundle your to-go meal in an oversize Chinese take-out box instead of those nasty styrofoam clamshells that melt with the heat of your food and are so messy. Big kudos to them for this. They're open most nights until midnight, accept credit cards and the parking lot is patrolled by foot security (although the area doesn't look particularly bad at all). Every time I come here it always hits the spot! We usually get takeout but it's still pipping hot when we open the containers and I'm talking about a thirty min drive home plus some getting ready to eat the food mins (iykyk) and it's still like it was freshly put in the containers. This place is In the trenches. 1. We arrived 10 minutes early for dinner and was told to sit and wait by the old lady server. Wait for what? NOTHING but a time change, not food change or any other physical change. 2. Went up to the same server at the front desk to ask how it works since I've never been (while she was gossiping with her coworker) and was looked at then kept talking between each other until I had to chime in. 3. Food station are super dirty food on counter & floor, my girlfriend and I almost slipped on noodle sauce on the ground near the food station. Their cooking sticks are from a white bucket sitting on the floor. WTF 4. Drinks were flat & had to find server to ask to take plates off the table. 5. Bathrooms: Dirty! No paper towels to dry hands, smelled, not clean. Urinal was ripped out and exposed sewage pipe was showing. 6. Did not answer the phone called over 6 times. 7. Carpet on floors are ripped up: looks like cats had a scratching orgy on the ground. 8. Tables have bowl size chips in them like if someone was banging on them with a hammer. -100/10 This place needs a health inspection & once failed needs to be shut down. First time eating here and I enjoyed my visit! From the moment I walked in to the moment I walked out. My visit here was a memorable one because the employees made it so. All the employees there were kind, but specifically one person made it the most memorable . I believe his name is Jesse. I had to ask for his name to thank him for his hospitality because he was very attentive and deserves a raise! He explained to us how to fill our plate, direction, and seated us in a well put together table to dine. Others I've been to are loud and busy and employees are not paying much attention to customers. But This one in Turlock .. I was acknowledged and is much more peaceful to enjoy my meal. Only reason I put 4 stars is because I agree with the reviews on cleanliness.. In the areas that customers use (buffet area) It was not as bad as the ones I've been to but this is an area where there's room for improvement. Let me start with this... I LOVE Mongolian BBQ!!! I have since I was a kid and we ate at the OG GK Mongolian BBQ on Grand Canal in Stockton! So imagine how happy I was when they opened one in Turlock. This place is hit or miss when it comes to being clean depending on who is working. Tonight when we came for dinner, this place was tore up! Food and sauces all over the counter and floor. It wasn't busy at all, we were the only ones in line making our food. Walking through noodles and veggies is just as bad as trying not to get all the food waste on the counter near your bowl. The server told the next customer that walked in (it was his first time there) that she would clean everything up for him, but she didn't. So he had to walk through the trenches of wasted food to make his first meal there, not a good first impression. Also, they give you a scoop of rice, soup, potstickers and wontons. But, I'd rather have it brought once we sit down so it's hot like it should be. They set it out on your table while your food is cooking and you're standing there waiting for it. So it's nice and almost cold by the time you get to eat it. Meh. I always tell the hubs, "I want a part time job here, just so I can clean up the counters and floors." It was not a good experience. The soup was lukewarm so we were afraid to eat it. The counters and floor were extremely dirty from spilled food left from people dishing up ingredients. It remained that way the whole time we ate there with no effort to sweep it clean it up. They had run out of clean forks so we were given very poor quality plastic forks that broke as we were eating. When we left our comment to each other was we should have left when we saw the mess in the beginning. I never write bad reviews because there is usually something positive to be found. I love coming to this location. I have always been a fan since the beginning. I have seen the restaurant gone through many changes through out the years. You can get unlimited refills on your bowl during dinner time. They also give you a side of rice a chicken broth soup wonton chips and little sweet seasome seed bread. I love that we are able to choose our own meat vegetable and sauces. It may take a few tries to figure out what you like in your bowl as sauces to be cooked in. I would recommend getting one scoop of each sauce but put a little more of the teriyaki and sweet-and-sour. The workers are very kind and come around to check on you frequently. The restaurant does seem like it needs a little bit more upkeep but I have never had any issues with cleanliness. I also love that they honor student ID discounts! read more

They have a good selection of meats: chicken, beef, pork, and lamb. They have an alright selection of veggies. They have a good selection of sauces (with recommended combinations). If you want your stuff spicier, you can ask them. They pride themselves on getting local produce, which is believable since the location is in the central valley. I'm still learning the art of packing your bowl to the max. Everyone else in line (except me) usually has that mastered. The staff is kind and attentive. They're good on getting you refills. The cooks don't just cook your stuff and hand you the bowl. Once they asked if I wanted more sauce, and they can chili oil and chili paste upon request. It's always exciting to get your bowl so you can your sizzling BBQ bowl to your table and chow down. The dinner comes with rice, egg drop soup, wonton chips, and a soft, sesame flavored cookie. What's great is that's it's all you can eat! But sometimes one bowl is enough for me. The place, such as the bathrooms, floors, and counters, could be cleaner. Food and sauce is usually sprawled out on the counters. But I understand how hard it is clean the area during the lunch and dinner rush. read more
