They hardly put meat in the entree plates and used more vegetables it still the entire portion size was still extremely small.... And they left the stickers on the vegetables and cooked it. so gross. We were craving Chinese food for two, this apt had good reviews. Inside of restaurant is small but big enough. Service was awesome, very wholesome, nice and very attentive. Food was delicious, the fried asparagus had the perfect crunch and the sweet and sour was so good. The prices are also great. Especially when I bring my whole family. Extremely generous portions and low prices. I will definitely be coming back on my drives to Yosemite! The place is clean, the staff is extremely friendly, and service is fast. I can't get over how huge the portions were. That makes Chong's stand out for sure. Also, we asked for "less salt, less sauce" on everything, and it all came out perfectly. Here's what we ordered: * L2 Lunch special: Comes with mongolian beef, chow mein, fried rice, spring roll. I really liked the beef -- a good dish, similar to Panda's. Chow mein was similarly delicious, and the spring roll was fresh, crispy, tasty. The fried rice was the ugly duckling for me. Tasted like rice with soy sauce. That wasn't a big deal though. The rest of the combination was well worth it! * Kung pao chicken: This dish didn't hit the spot for me. The chicken was relatively dry, and I wasn't sure what to make of the taste. It was a bit strange. Not a particular fan, but hey, it was still a large portion! So I'm still a decently happy customer. All in all, there were some misses, but the wins outweigh the losses -- I would more than happily come back to try other dishes! I would highly recommend this place to anyone on a long drive. Wife picked up a variety of plates for our dinner. She was on that side of town and this was a place we had never tried before. The boxes were pretty full and looked good, however we both agreed that something was "off" with the taste of most of the food. The shrimp we received in our fried prawns were extremely small (at least 60% batter) and were deep fried so long that they were tough to chew. Chow mein noodles tasted oily and the white rice was very sticky. There are too many other Chinese restaurants in town that are MUCH better, so for us this was a one and done experience. read more

This may be one of my new favorite restaurants for Thai/Chinese food. We will see as time goes and more orders to come for more experiences. Nice and clean small place at the corner of the plaza, seating about 43 occupants, but friendly and prompt customer service. Order to go beef chow fun during busy hours, but regardless they got my order ready within 5-10 minutes. Usually, at other busy places, might have to wait 15-30+ minutes during busy hours. Food was good to my liking being of Thai/Lao ethnic myself. Love that they give large generous portion with a good price. read more

I got takeout so didn't eat there. I ordered beef chow fun cuz I was really craving it and it was horrible. The noodles were so mushy that it literally made me gag. As soon as they were in your mouth, they disintegrated into mush. Sad because everything else in the dish was fresh and tasty but with chow fun, it's about the noodles and these were so bad, I don't know what how you can even make them be that way. The other dish I ordered was egg fu yung - not my favorite dish but my partner likes it - and it was very good. I would order that again. read more

Delicious food! Mama's fried rice is a go to. We've really enjoyed the food and people. The staff is super welcoming, and happy. We've been coming here for years, hopefully, if you haven't been, you give it a try. They are fast with to go orders, and we see delivery drivers coming through regularly. Was driving through the area and stopped by Chong's. It is located in a shopping center so there is lots of easy parking and Tesla super chargers are within walking distance. You can't beat the prices here, we ordered three lunch entrees with tons of food leftover and spent under $40. The lunch specials all come with either rice, chow mein or both and most also have a veggie egg roll or other small side included. Substitutions are allowed (sometimes for small charge) We tried the garlic chicken, lemon chicken and sweet and sour chicken - all were the same breaded chicken but with different, flavorful sauces. The Thai yellow curry was also quite yummy and probably the group favorite. Also got a Thai iced tea to wash it all down (it was larger in size than most places). The restaurant has tons of options to choose from between the Chinese and Thai food items. True to the reviews, the owner is really kind and friendly. There was no wait for seating when we arrived but the place filled up fast - seems quite popular. Overall, this place satisfied our Chinese and Thai cravings with friendly service and a smile. We will absolutely swing by again the next time we're driving through! read more

Pretty standard generic Chinese food, I just needed a bit more salt on everything. Beef and broccoli with fried rice, chow mein, egg roll. The portion was pretty good, bigger portions than say Panda Express, especially the beef and broccoli. But was a bit bland. Salt definitely helped bring it to my level. Forget the egg roll. Hot and sour soup was mildly sweet which I didn't prefer, and could've been a bit more sour. Overall very average at best. Nice people work here though. If I ever had to come back, I'd guess the Thai food had a better chance. read more

they have the best chicken wonton soup! The broth is delicious. I order a small cup and it's so full of vegetables, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, wontons, and meat. That's a complete meal for me. This place is so close to home, I can walk there! Been supporting Chongs for a few years. I really love the yellow curry with chicken. It also has potatoes and carrots and is so creamy and flavorful. Another go to is the combination appetizer platter. You get prawns, foil wrapped chicken (the best and reminds me of my childhood on the bay), cream cheese wontons and egg rolls. I also like to throw in some steamed pork buns. I prefer the baked ones, but these def curb the craving. My kids and husband usually like to get the pad Thai and it's a big serving. It's loaded with shrimp, chicken, egg and tofu with some veggies. Super delicious! If you go before 3pm, they have a great lunch menu with either Chinese or Thai favorites. Last night, I went over and supported a special fundraiser collaboration with Sanctuary Pizza (also bomb) and grabbed a yellow qcurry Margherita pizza ans a garlic chicken pizza. Clean restaurant, simple decor, cheap price. I took my food to go today for lunch. My orange chicken combo plate came with lo mein, rice, three deep fried shrimp, and of course of fortune cookie. The orange chicken was very good. The lo mein was quite bland, and the noodles appeared as if they had been sitting for a long time the rice was quite sticky, and not that good. It was as if they had scraped the bottom of the rice pot on my entrée , the deep fried shrimp were heavily battered with very little meat. While the flavor was fine, there was no real taste other than crunchy deep-fried batter. The service was exceptional. The gentleman who took my order took great pride in customer service, and I appreciated that. All that said, I probably won't be back due to the average food quality. read more

Second visit to Chong's since the pandemic, so I figure it's time for an update. It's the same as it ever was, the same family is running the restaurant. They are just as friendly and welcoming as before. I had the pad thai for lunch. It was excellent, nice and flavorful. I always want an egg roll with my meal and thankfully the pad thai came with one. It didn't disappoint. Probably my favorite thing on the menu is the mango fried rice. Food doesn't taste Thai. I've noticed here out in the country it's really hard to find Asian cuisine that tastes good

I used to really like this place, but I was very disappointed with my recent order (which was a to go order). The cream cheese wontons were soggy and greasy instead of crisp. This may be partially caused by the fact that we had them to go, but I've often had crisp cream cheese wontons to go from other places. The Szechuan chicken turned out to be breaded, deep-fried chicken in a barely spicy sauce. No veggies. Every other place I've ever been to, this dish is not breaded and deep-fried, it includes veggies, and the sauce is spicy. The pad Thai was bland and there were no bean sprouts, no lime, no cilantro. The only really positive thing I can say is that the portion sizes were large. read more

The food had really good flavor. The soup has a delicious broth and I loved it. And the price was great for a cup of soup. Hong Kong style chow mein had really good flavor. The sauce was good the noodles were crispy and it had beef chicken and shrimp. The shrimps I think we're old because my whole dish tasted like shrimp so I didn't care for those and they're the smaller ones.The chicken and the beef are a little chewy because they don't velvet their meats to get that soft tender bite. vegetables were fresh. Food came out fast and hot. My only disappointment, and this is my personal preference, is the two dishes I ordered had the exact same vegetables in it. WOW! We decided to give this spot a try since we were in the area in Turlock. And boy I got to tell you I have not been this disappointed in any Chinese food restaurant or cuisine in a while. I don't know if it was the day for the staff that was here at this time this was Thursday night anywhere from 5 PM to 7 PM. We could not just eat the food the orange chicken was hard and solid like rocks the rice tasted old and dry. And other dishes have the same issues the only thing that was pretty decent was the chicken chow mein.
