I enjoy assembling my bowl with the ingredients I like that it always tastes good, and is so hot, it travels well if you get it "to go", which I always have. Yes, they could be a little more on the ball with keeping the food line tidy. I've never had issues with this business. Others have mentioned no containers to take home uneaten portions (including for a child who ate free) during the all-you-can-eat times, but that's pretty common with unlimited deals, and their website does specifically say no to-go contact bets for uneaten portions will be given. Anyone concerned with "food waste" should simply prepare their children smaller portions form the start. We all know those people who get way more than they can eat at the restaurant, with the intention of making a second meal of it later, am I right? It's not that the place is trying to cause "food waste", they're trying to prevent people taking extra food out, which would result in having to raise their prices to accommodate. I have came to this location a few times over the last 8-9 years, most recently this Friday. It's no secret that the inside is outdated and doesn't look the cleanest but the food is good and veggies are always fresh. My issue is why they simply do not allow you to take your food home and are essentially promoting wasted food when you're paying for all you can eat. We had 2 adults and 2 kids. We were charged full price for our dinner, our son was free and our daughter was 7$. Needless to say our kids didnt finish their food because it was alot. Despite choosing all you can eat, we all had 1 bowl each. When it was time to go we asked if we could have 2 to go containers for our kids to take their unfinished food home. We were told that if we did, our kids would he charged full price. We paid 36$ for all of our meals and instead of providing 2 to go containers we were told we couldnt have boxes. I dont understand why they are so against to go containers, if you're paying for the food you should be able to take it home. Refusing containers is promoting wasted food and it's just not ok. We wont be coming back here due to the rude staff and wasteful business practices. read more

We have always loved this place. Well my son chose lunch today and as soon as we get there a guy is right outside the door smoking. We start making out bowls. Oh smoking guy works there. Very considerate. All I can smell is cigarettes as I'm trying to think of lunch. The food just wasn't the same. I left most my meat it was just gross. And now they give a tiny potsticker instead of egg roll. The service was actually ok. And at the end they charged us for drinks when we just had water. Too late since I already paid I guess. This place is nasty! I went there with my family and we got in line. I went to grab a bowl and I couldn't find one bowl that was clean. Not one!! I told a staff member and she went to go get more bowls. In the meantime, I was looking around at the frozen meat and there was built up residue all over the place. Do Not order through the Yelp ordering service. I ordered through Yelp waited the approximated time before going to pick up my order only to arrive and be told that they do not get orders from Yelp. The manager was called and he handled the situation professionally, took a picture of my Yelp order confirmation and got the order put in immediately. The concept is pretty simple, you add your noodles, proteins, and veggies to the bowl, choose sauce and they will grill it right there in front of you. I have been to the restaurant several times for both take out and dine in and never had any issues until today. I had planned on having lunch with my husband and got there before he did. When I arrived the server asked if it was take out or dine in. I let him know it was dine in and told him there would be two of us but one would not be eating and gave him my drink order. When the food was made I sat down at the table the server set up. He provided me with two drinks, two bowls of rice and two egg rolls. As soon as I sat down my husband arrived. He placed a small amount of rice on the egg roll plate and had some rice and an egg roll. He did take a fork full of my meal and placed it on his plate. The server immediately approached our table and let us know that there is no sharing and that we would need to get another bowl. I told the server that my husband had had surgery and could not eat a full portion. He stepped away so I took my husbands medical card stating that he cannot eat full portions to explain that he would only be eating the rice and egg roll but was met with the server interrupting me and would not let me explain. I asked to see the manager but was told he was not in. The server asked for my name and number so I provided him with it so that the manager could contact me. I told the server that I would return to my table and wait for the manager to call. When my husband took a bite of his rice the server returned and told us that since there was a no sharing policy that we would need to either take the food to go or leave the restaurant. I told the server that I would wait for the manager to call and explain that due to my husbands medical card that states he cannot have full portions and they cannot discriminate against him. At that point the server told us that the manager had instructed him on what to say and that he would call the cops if we did not leave at which point my husband advised him that he was in fact law enforcement to which the server stated "I don't care". At this time we made the decision that since we had been treated so poorly by the server and we were getting no where regarding the no sharing policy that we would leave. I understand the policy of "no sharing" but when a guest is not allowed to explain that one of the people in the party would be eating only a small amount of food without all this hassle, it just isn't worth it. Tried this place first in Manteca, it was clean and very neat, so decided to go to the one on Coffee Road. Was not the best atmosphere and a bit messy. Saw a young boy with his head inside the sneeze guard and touching things, brought it to his dads attention, who was piling veggies on his bowl and squishing them down with his hand. He wanted his money's worth. Which is strange because after 3:30 it is all you can eat for about $10. I guess people are all different. After the staff dumped some of the items and replaced them I got in line. This location has more veggies available than the Manteca location. They have water chestnuts, peanuts, cilantro, and baby corn. I eat vegetarian many times during the year, due to my religious beliefs so this is perfect. They also offer lots of meat options that you can include Meatless or with meat the price is the same. They have lots of sauces to pick from so you can season the way you like. The meals are your choosing and you can get whatever veggie you like. read more

I have never been so utterly disappointed. This was by far the most horrible dining experience that I can EVER recall. The restaurant was dirty (not a single cleared/cleaned table), all were sticky, and there were no other guests when we ordered. The soup and rice were probably from the night before and EVERY prep table was in disarray (I didn't realize until I paid). No refills, no service, and we didn't even get what we had paid for. I was in Modesto and saw this place on the corner so decided to stop by. It was my first time here and the staff were friendly and they explained what options I had and how to serve myself. Basically you have to build your own plate using the option of beef, pork, chicken, or shrimp(+$2). After this you choose your veggies and then add noodles. Lastly, you select sauces and give the plate to an employee who then cooks the food in front of you. The only problem is that this place looks a little dirty (food that ppl dropped on the counters). We decided to try this place out since he's been to the Stockton location and we both have been to the Tracy location. The Tracy location is very very good and has excellent service. GO NOW! Quite possibly one of the best Mongolian buffets within one hundred miles. For those of you that are unfamiliar with Mongolian food, you can put anything that you desire into a bowl and the chefs will fry it up for you on the spot. You can basically customize your dinner to your exact standards instead of making tons of substitutions like at a normal restaurant. Lets review! SERVICE: There never seems to be more than one waitress working at a time, but they are always extremely quick to greet customers, take drink orders, and set up seats. I always order water with no ice, which every waitress in the world gets wrong. Not at GK Mongolian! Nice work. A busboy is continuously cleaning the self serve area and stocking fresh items. Cooks are fast and courteous. FOOD QUALITY: Surprisingly fresh. I will admit that from the exterior of the building that I was a bit apprehensive about eating here at first, but everything looks very delicious when raw tastes absolutely amazing when cooked. Like I said, the busboy always seems to be restocking the items with fresher selections. You also get rice, an egg roll, and egg drop soup with your order, but that is basically filler food. I go straight for the meat and don't waste my time with that stuff. The only thing that I would change is for them to increase the vegetable options. There are 4 meats to choose from, noodles, about 10 veggies, and about 10 sauces. Some other places have around 15 different veggies. No big deal for me really, but it is something for them to think about if they want to expand their business. PRICE: $6.95 for lunch for a single bowl, add $2 per extra bowl, first bowl can be taken home. Dinner is around $10 or so for all you can eat with no take out option. The pricing is fairly average, but I thoroughly enjoy the option of taking home my lunch bowl. Most other places charge the same price but absolutely forbid removal of your food, even when it is not the buffet dinner. GK is "keepin it real." AMBIANCE: Average Asian/American hybrid style dining environment. Lots of tables, lots of windows. Nothing to complain about. There are usually a ton of people during lunch when I go, so the line can take awhile to freshly cook the bowls for the customers, but the wait is never so bad that I want to leave. Overall, I feel confident my Five Star analysis of this restaurant. If you want great Mongolian food then this is the place to go! My first time here, had lunch takeout. Didn't know what to do but the very friendly staff showed me how to get started. The meat choices were beef, chicken pork and turkey ( I don't eat beef ). Pick a meat selection, noodles, veggies and add much sauce as you can fit in a decent sized bowl. Hand it to the cook and in about 6 minutes it's done. They dump everything out onto a large round hot stove, constantly turning and circling the whole stove top. Really cool to watch. Not sure what the peeps grumbling about messy counters are fussing about, if it's messy, it's because of the customers, a'ight??? They try to clean up but some people are all thumbs and have no technique (see hint below). By doing the AYCE option, no need to fill your bowl of ingredients like Mount Everest... can keep going back in line. Hint on achieving "voluminess maximus" that all the regulars know... pile the noodles on last because its weight holds all the other meats/veggies in place. If you do it the other way round, all those little pieces of broccoli, green onions, celery, mini corn, etc. is going to fall off the top when you start pouring in the sauces. Only thing is, the noodles are before the veggies in the line, so you gotta backtrack. But worth it, brah!! I love garlic and the cooks know how to pour it on. I love dem guys. We went for dinner on a friday early evening. Upon walking in, a waitress/waiter will great you and explain the process to making your meal. She will also reserve a table for you, so it is ready by the time you are done with the meal line. You grab a bowl and fill it with meat (there was a choice of beef, chicken, or turkey), then veggies (about 10 to choose from), and noodles. Then there are about 10 different sauces. They recommend you mix a few together. I noticed many people OVER FILLING their bowls, because it really cooks down. However, because people over fill their bowls, the place looks very messy with noodles all over the ground and counter. The atmosphere is casual. It is all you can eat and 10 dollars for each person at dinner time. This includes a couple appetizers they give you (wontons, and some sort of biscuit). Overall this place is good for the price, however I wish it was cleaner and more attended to (or provide bigger bowls so there is less mess. The bowls are actually quite small). read more

We went here on a Tuesday for lunch and the young lady who was working greeted us upon arriving. She was really nice. She asked if we had been there before and explained to us what to do. She also gave us prices; around $7 for lunch. You can also pay $2 extra for another bowl, but if you pile it on high in the first place, there's a lot, and even enough to take the rest to go. $7 is a good deal. As far as taste goes, it was good. There are plenty of sauces you can choose from, but it would have been nice had the chef recommended some flavors. You also get a small bowl of rice, soup, and an egg roll which the Mongolian BBQ at the mall doesn't offer. The server was very attentive and I value that. I think the only reason why some people wrote that you can't take your food to go is because they chose to get the extra bowl(s) for a little more. It's like a buffet; you eat what you can while you are there unless you choose just the one bowl. Trust me. The one bowl will fill you up plenty. Love this place. Can get really messy and really busy but that never takes away from how tasty is reasonably priced it is. The staff is always very kind and responsive. The soup they give you with your meal is very good if you add lots of soy sauce. I add every sauce to my bowl except lobster sauce. I love how you can always have something different by choosing your own sauces, meats, and vegetables. There is a tofu option for vegans/vegetarians however I wouldn't recommend it if you are a super strict vegan since the food is all cooked on the same grill. read more
