Ive been coming here since it opened for well over 10 years. This place was so good for a sushi buffet and sometimes its hit or miss but lately its just been nasty. My last visit will be today. I came in today as usual sat at the sushi bar. The sushi chefs are always super friendly and servers/bussers are nice too, however; tonight the food was the worst. Everything I ate was just disgusting. Crab was overcooked and/burnt, shrimp were over cooked. Sushi tasted and smelled fishy, rice was hard and grainy. I couldnt finish one thing I ate and usually I smash at least 10 plates. It was so bad I had to get up and ask for my money back. The host said he couldnt do that and when I went further into detail about how bad everything was he just giggled and said theres nothing he can do. Not only was the food absolutely horrible this visit the heat was unbareable, the host said the a/c was out. I was literally sweating the whole time I was eating. Im not one to complain at all. We were attracted by the ideas of floating Sushi Boats on water at this restaurant; so decided to give it a try for the first time. All Sushi boats were chained to together, and floating through water track. It was fun to see initially. But, after a while, it became boring! We noticed all Sushi seem made the same ways and seemed tasted the same; they are not just look alike, they were all covered with different color Mayo and soy pastes on tops for decoration; I counted, there were no more than 10 different kinds of sushi along with Green Seaweeds and Edamame circulating around. We were sitting by the Boat tables, which was next to work stations in the middle of Sushi boats round; it was noisy to hear 2-3 workers chatting in their language while we were eating. $15.95/pp for AYCE, which was reasonable. There's a separate buffet with a variety of food for all ages. I wish I had seen the oysters on ice sooner than later. The steam crab with melted butter was my husband's favorite. Overall j give this place a MEH. The sushi boats and sushi on them were decent. I tried a variety of them and they all taste fresh but not too much flavor going on. I got a plate of orange chicken and fried rice from the buffet. The orange chicken was dry and a 4 out of 10. The rice had no flavor and was a waste of carbs lol. There are many boats of full of options these are not fancy rolls but still yummy and some good nigiri as well. The soups in hot food area were good and fresh fruit and jello was good. The hibachi grill I did not try but looked good over all. Terrible food, terrible service. It's the lowest quality of food you could possibly get in modesto. The staff are extremely rude and judgmental. They are all Chinese, not Japanese. I speak, read, and write Mandarin & I can also speak Cantonese. The 2 sushi "chefs" behind the boat island CONSTANTLY talk trash and talk shit about their customers in Chinese Mandarin. A few things I overheard are. "Look at how fat that person is" To a family eating. During the same time frame, I heard them comment "Why won't they leave already?" towards 2 customers after they had barely finished only 1 plate. The chief in the back kitchen, an older man, constantly comes out and stares at the customers in a judgmental look. Same for the older chinese lady. I was on the neighborhood of Modesto and was in the mood for Japanese food. This place has an all you can eat option and they also have hot food items as well. It had Crab legs, Crawfish , Salt and pepper shrimp and some soup options. I mainly stuck with Sushi and Hand rolls. They had plenty of Sushi varieties and you can also order directly from the Sushi chefs. The Spicy Salmon rolls (see pic) was the certainly spicy, but not too hot. They had plenty of seating and the people who worked there were pretty informative and friendly. I would say it's a lot like Tomi in the mall, but a little more diverse on the Sushi rolls. It was also inexpensive for an all you can eat for 2 people was under $40 dollars. Definitely worth checking out if your in the Modesto area and if you are craving Japanese cuisine and of course Sushi. We will be back to try more of their Sushi and Sashimi. read more

I'm giving this 1 star because I cannot give it a 0. The people were nice but the food is not fresh. The sushi is luke warm and had no flavor. And i saw quite a few flies flying around. Also, i did not see anyone sanitizing counters or utensils which at a buffet in covid times is a mess. Came here because a friend suggested this place. A huge plus is their enormous parking lot. From the make of the building, it looks like it used to be a local hotel/motel as the entrance has a pull up car area like a valet similar to what you'd see at a Hilton hotel or casino. The customer service was wonderful. The gentleman with glasses frequently came by to clear our table and asked if we would like to order a sushi roll on their menu (free of charge unless you order something not on the menu). The place can seat maybe 100+ guests at one time as it's larger than most sushi buffets in the area. However, I wasn't too impressed with their sushi. It was a little cold and didn't taste as fresh as the one in Fuji Sushi Buffet located in Sac. They do have a chef who cooks made to order Mongolian BBQ noodles. I didn't try it but my Mom did and their noodles looked larger than normal. For squid fanatics, you have the option of adding calamari to your Mongolian BBQ plate. Price is $11 every day except for Sunday where it's $15. My party and I went on Sunday and I think the extra $4 is due to the honey walnut shrimp and crawfish. They also serve raw, iced oysters near the back wall with the jello. I thought that was a little odd placement but hey, none of the other guests seemed to mind lol. read more

Hidden gem of Modesto: Although it seems "well known" I think it should be bigger. All of 209 should be coming here regularly for lunch and dinner time. Although it's a 3 star review there are many's reasons to recommend/come back to this places. Cons: Although they try to keep fried food, on the buffet side of the restaurant, fresh, it does get stale depending on whenever you come in. The bathroom needs some work as it smells weird every time I'm there. & When it gets busy, the workers are way too busy, running everywhere to help everyone, and that's management fault. As a customer, when you see servers running everywhere (to make sure customers are satisfied) (might I add I felt bad especially since it looked like there were only two servers for the whole restaurant ON A FRIDAY) it makes the customers stressed and that's for sure a reflection on management, they need to be better. Last but not least on cons, is the dessert. I get that there is already a lot of options in the restaurant, but in my opinion, if it's not good, don't have it out at all. There is nothing in the dessert section I would recommend besides the fruit, and half are canned. Oh and one thing I should mention is the black mold stuff that came out of my hot sake bottle. Not cool. Oh and beer selection could use some work. Pros: There are many pros, starting with variety. There's sushi, which is great quality, the revolving boats to add to that, you can always order your own rolls or whatever you want made fresh of, the sashimi you can get unlimited of which is great, quality of the fish is great, Mongolian bbq in the back is cool, Asian buffets section in the back, COLD sake selection is cool (never getting hot sake again), getting ginger and wasabi is unlimited at the salad bar (as the amount of ginger is important to me), and the oysters they have hiding underneath the ice are actually good. Oh and they have TVs for whatever game you're trying to watch. Although I am giving 3 stars, it's because there's a lot to improve/ work on. I don't want this place to die out, I just want improvements. I will recommend and still take family and friends here because, in my opinion, it's a hidden gem in Modesto. The first restaurant my wife and I went to moving in the city 2018.
