It was getting on lunch time and my crew needed some lunch. My GPS and Yelp, showed there was this Chinese buffet here in Modesto and I know these buffets usually have enough stuff to keep everyone on my crew happy. Heck, they all usually even have pizza and French fries if you don't want Chinese food! No hamburgers though, like Mexican places. This New King Buffet, (super common name for Chinese buffets for some reason), is located way in the back of a shopping area off East Hatch Road. Look for the Cost Less Foods store, it's back and to the right of that. Glad we had the GPS to get us here. It sort of looks a little run down and older, not one of these new fancy Chinese buffets with tons of Chinese people in line, eating strange food from tide pools, nope, more or less American Chinese here. We go in and it's actually decently large enough with all the normal selections or foods, like noodles, hot and sour soup, sweet and sour stuff and egg rolls. Lunch time so no crab out. Service is the usual Chinese efficient, just to fill drinks and clear plates is all. Everyone filled up and thought the food was decent and no complaints, so that's good. I like it doesn't take too long to do lunch here, outta here in under an hour. I hate places we end up spending 2 hours at for lunch. Buffets are good for fast lunch. read more

This place is pretty horrible. My kids and I went for dinner. $75 for 3 of us. Most buffets you can usually find a few things you like. Not here, it was all pretty bad. We came in at 6pm and many items looked like they had been sitting there a while. Nothing was really fresh looking. The only thing good here was the Pepsi. My dad passed last week and Friday was his bday. My family decided to celebrate him by going to his favorite an Asian buffet. He loved in the bay area. So he didn't get a chance to eat here You pay first and they currently have paper plates to use. They ask you use the trash can to clean plate and reuse. They also have gloves available. Our favorite items was the array of sushi. Most buffet sushi can be weird and this was pretty tasty. I also enjoyed the fried shrimp and the pepper chicken. My kids tried crawfish for the first time and liked it. There are quite a variety of items. My only issues were what looked like honey walnut shrimp, seemed like maybe it sat out for a while because the texture and they don't devien their shrimp items. Horrible experience. We had decided to order Chinese food for work on Christmas Day and decided on this place 2 days prior. I called them on the 23rd and asked if they provided take out and if they were open on Christmas Day, and they said yes at 1030am, but no delivery. We can't leave the office and had to arrange pick up with a friend, which isn't a problem. I called on the 25th to place the take out order for my co-workers at 1030 am and asked if I can place a take out order. The woman who answered the phone put me on hold for a few minutes then told me they have no food prepared and to call back at 1130. I called back at 1130 am asking to make a take out order. The same woman answered and told me they do not provide take out orders and I have to come in person to place an order. Keep in mind, their website has an option for online orders and under service options on google and yelp it says takeout!! Unacceptable to waste a customers time like that and misrepresent your services online. We placed our $150 dollar order with a more accommodating Chinese restaurant. I don't know what happened to the food here but quality has lowered significantly. On top of that, prices went up. I went for Chinese food because it is a Chinese buffet, for the price I've paid, the least they could do is use real chow mein noodles and not spaghetti noodles for their chow mein. First off we payed $27 for two people. The plates are paper and the forks are plastic. Before COVID they were glass plates and steel forks. All the "warm" or "hot" dishes where COLD. NOTHING TATSES THE SAME like it used to. The chow mien was a different noodle and very bland, the rice didn't actually taste like fried rice, the Rangoon's didn't have a lot of cream cheese and where cold, the egg roll was basic and tasted weird cold, the honey "walnut" shrimp didn't have walnuts and the taste was off Definitely a waste of time and money going to this place. They defraud customers by putting out dinner food during lunch hours but tell customers they will charge more if they eat it. If it is put out during lunch hours it is lunch item. If they don't want dinner items to be a lunch item then they should wait until after lunch hours to put them out. Owner needs to understand that and not contest and argue with customers when they eat dinner items during lunch hours telling them they need to pay more. I'm giving two stars because the food was good. They have crawfish , salmon ,shrimp and muscles. It was three adults one toddler at our table. I got a Diet Coke I think the rest was apple juice , two raspberry teas. I'm mentioning the drinks because when we got the bill it came up to $82 I wish I would've screenshot the detailed bill because we were in shock. But then I thought maybe because it's a seafood place the plates might've been $15 but they don't have crab or lobster there. So I looked on the detail bill and it said they charge eight dollars for drinks! Two people got two refills. That was ridiculous. Another AYCE hidden gem in the 209! Prices are super reasonable, the staff makes sure the place is super clean! Buffet tables are always stocked and kept clean. The sashimi was super fresh, except there was a long wait because of the discourteous people taking 90% of the sashimi for their tables at one time. Other than that, fresh fish!!! All the food was legit, taste was good and again the price was nice! For a family of 5, it came out to 60 bucks...(but with tax and mandatory tip it was 70). One minor annoyance was that it was super packed and the tables were basically back to back with other patrons. My only beef is that they add a 10% tip to all bills. (Thus the missing star.) Our server was super attentive and took care of us, but only got 10%. She was at least worth 20%, but because the guy at the front didn't want to remove the mandatory tip, we just let it be. I arrive and oh gosh it's super hidden. Like, if this is your first time coming here def takes a second to find the business. Walk in, get seated, and start digging in! My main thing I wanted to eat were their crab legs and sushi. Usually not a huge fan of sushi but they had such a large selection my Yelp reviewer inside just had to! Went to celebrate my birthday there and was a place with big variety to pick from. The food tasted good and oh boy! the crab legs go fast. Everything tasted good and the service was polite and good. Visiting my parents and they said this place was good. They have been here several time before and it was delicious! Came for dinner and Of course it was Not! Sushi was good, cold shrimp was over cooked, Rangoon's were descent, fried fish was paper thin and over cooked! Mushrooms were bomb but overall below average. They do not serve crab legs anymore! The highlight was the rancid jello!! Spoke to the hostess and all she said was I will let them know! Cleanliness was not up to par especially during COVID!! Ice cream center had not been wiped down and the water in the ice cream scooper was gross! A box of spoons was left out for people to forge through! Please upgrade your napkins, they are paper thin and you need 50 to wipe your hands! We seen the server for drinks twice the whole time we were there. I had to go ask the hostess for drink refills. I was curious about this place, being a fan of Chinese buffets and seeing the good reviews. I took my son here for lunch after his soccer game on a Saturday afternoon. We arrived at about 11:30am and I immediately noticed that one of the entrees (I think it was the orange chicken) was lukewarm and seemed to somehow have been sitting out for a while already even though the restaurant barely opened. The booth we were sat at was broken, and while we were eating, some guy off the street wandered in and tried to sell us something. This is Hatch Rd. though, so it's to be expected. Overall, this place was mediocre at best. The Super Buffet in Manteca is way better, so I'll stick to that place the next time. read more

The food was tasty, okay. My chicken was nicely flavored and the chowmein was pretty good too. Oh and the spring rolls as well. Delicious. Except the rice a little dry. However the woman at the cash register was nice and the waiter was accommodating as well when I noticed they didn't get my drink down. He still gave me my drink which I appreciated. Unfortunately it was way too hot there, my baby was was getting cranky from over heating. Her checks were turning pink! We sat next to the thermostat and it read 86 degrees inside! The floors were filthy. I don't know if they were stained or chipping but just looked like dirt and sticky food that was left overtime. My husband used the restroom and he said it was unsanitary it really set him off he was ready to leave. People weren't using the gloves as was posted, no one spoke to them about it at all. I understand not wanting to get into uncomfortable situations but as a business you need to put your foot down for the benefit of all patrons and that means keeping everyone's health in mind, not just the patrons but also your employees that are working hard!
