UPDATE: After having used Knoble Moving for the third time I am sad to say that I can no longer recommend their services. My move resulted in a number of damages to my furniture, my wood floors, and my walls. I attempted to work out a repair with the owner of the company but after several texts and phone calls ending with a voicemail telling me it was full, I am giving up. This is the second time I have used Knoble Movers and there is a reason for it. Outstanding work done by Willie, Sydney, and Emanuel. They were timely, careful, and courteous. We hired Knoble Moving to move our belongings from Washington DC to Brooklyn NY in April 2017. However, the company did not deliver all our property to our new apartment. Specifically, the entire contents of a storage unit in our daughter's room were never delivered to us. The company did not respond to questions about the whereabouts of our property for over a month. Finally, in May, we were told that it was "lost". When asked about compensation for the items that were lost or stolen, the company stopped communicating with us entirely. For the past 4 months, they have not responded to calls, emails, or certified letters that have been sent from us and our insurance company. This does not even begin to touch on all the items that were damaged or destroyed during the move. This is a dishonest company. I have filed complaints with the Better Business Bureau and the FMCSA, but I am also hoping that by writing this I can deter anyone else that is thinking about hiring Knoble Movers from doing so and making the same mistake I did. read more

Top notch service. I just used them to move from U street to Potomac Yards and encountered some Issues with the leasing people at my new apartment and they were gracious about everything and still got me moved in and didn't complain at all. It made everything so much less stressful. I'm 7 months pregnant and really appreciated the help and they did not want me to lift anything and were very genuine. Everything was moved without any breaks and done in a pretty quick timeframe. The cost is probably also one of the most reasonable that I have found in this area. What a breath of fresh air! I had initially booked with another company and after discovering that they were trying to charge additional fees that weren't quoted initially, I cancelled. With only a few days until my move (on a holiday weekend, too), I called Knoble Moving and Kevin came to the rescue. They had another move scheduled that day but were able to squeeze me in. The service was amazing, they were friendly, professional and worked efficiently. They took excellent care of my items and they really went above and beyond by helping me get furniture rearranged upon my move in. The price quoted was what I paid! They didn't try to add extra fees. Like my fellow reviewer mentioned, please spend a few extra bucks and have cold drinks on hand for the movers. They really work hard and it's greatly appreciated. I had messaged Knoble Moving after my move a few times trying to solicit a response before posting anything, but unfortunately they were far slower than before when I asked about scheduling business with them. The only positive was that the movers who came were kind, seemed to know what they were doing, and showed up on time. That's the only reason I'd give Knobler the extra star. Knobler charges per hour. What's ridiculous is that after giving Knobler an extremely detailed description of the move (including exact numbers of furniture, apartment locations and floors, etc) they gave me a time estimate that was half off. The price came out to over twice what they had estimated to me. For a company that has over 100 reviews and probably has done this for a long time, they either still don't know what they're doing or intentionally low-balled my estimate - OR sent workers who were much, much slower than are their expectations. For a 1bedroom in city move, being 3 hours off is a pretty big deal. To adding sour cream to the cake, when the movers arrived, they didn't know anything about the job, and I had to inform them of their own time estimates, addresses to move to, etc. So if you like falsely estimated moves that become far overpriced and a company that will completely ghost you when you kindly message them about this, go with Knoble. There are so many moving companies that give similar or lower estimates if anything professional seems more up your alley. Were unreachable, didn't answer the phone, didn't answer any emails. She had all of her things packed and then no movers on the day of her move -how stressful. Shameful. They broke our tv (completely cracked the screen), broke all of our lamp heads, caused over $900 damage to our wooden tables, and literally put garbage in the boxes they packed. Initially Knoble said they would pay back for the damages, but then they refused to return our phone calls and we had to argue for months on the credit card dispute. We have repeatedly tried to get in touch with this company after they caused us to lose over $700 worth of our belongings after sending out a truck that was too small. No response. We had a staff member of this company come to our apartment weeks prior to the move, and they selected a truck size that they said would fit everything. The day of, we discovered that the truck they selected for us was too small, and we had to throw out in the dumpster our entire patio furniture set, a grill, all of our lamps, an 8' standing ladder, cleaning supplies and other items. The only reason why we didn't have to also throw out additional boxes and an expensive desk chair was because they filled my personal car to such capacity that I couldn't use the armrest or see out of the back. The actual workers the day of were fantastic and did a great job with the truck we had. read more

If you are reading this, you are probably considering hiring Knoble for your move. Please listen very carefully to what I am about to say: RUN. Run as far away from this company as you possibly can. We were very impressed with Kevin at our first meeting. He told us that all the movers worked for his company and were not subcontracted. He told us that he had one mover who only did artwork and knew how to pack it properly. He told us the movers would take excellent care of our things. Unfortunately, all of these things turned out to be untrue. So, so untrue. It started with the packers. Since our move was being paid for by my new employer, we figured we would splurge for packing assistance. When the team showed up (Kevin, we were told, was in Florida), they got right to work. One man asked me to show him what we were most interested in having packed carefully. I said the art -- please take care of the art. We left them to it. When we checked back in, we realized what a mistake hiring Knoble had been. All of the art had been jammed into boxes unprotected. Oil paintings had been stacked with nothing over the paint at all and crammed tightly together into boxes. Some were damaged. We ended up repacking all of it ourselves that night. Additionally, they skipped the kitchen altogether, did not wrap several large items in blankets, and left all sorts of various loose items in each room. The next day, the movers were supposed to arrive at 9am. I called when no one was there and I believe I woke Kevin up. In Florida. He said he would look into it. Over the course of the next three hours, I had virtually no correspondence from anyone at Knoble. Kevin stopped answering his phone. I was in a frenzy because we had to be out of the house that day, get our daughter at day care, and drive 11 hours to our destination. I was a few minutes away from going to rent a Uhaul and hiring people on the street to help me load it when they showed up. It was 12:15, over three hours late, with no explanation. You can imagine the rest of the story. They were not careful with our items. They barely fit them all in the truck, and we had to pack some extra in our car that they couldn't fit. Fortunately they did arrive on time the next morning to unload, but they were similarly careless taking everything out as they had been putting it in. Here is an abbreviated list of the damage our property sustained: -A broken leg on our dining room table (the wood actually split off) -A broken stained glass lampshade (from being jammed into a box with no wrapping) -Deep gouges on several pieces of wood furniture, including our daughter's dresser -Broken doors and starter on our gas BBQ grill -Shattered glasses and bowl from putting a box marked "fragile" underneath a box marked "books" These are just a few of the many injuries our things sustained from being handled with almost no care by Kevin's crew (who informed us that, despite Kevin's assurances that all movers work for him, they subcontract with Knoble. One had never done a move before.). In the end, the price was very low, and Kevin reluctantly made it lower on my insistence. Even so, we got far less than what we paid for, and have to spend money replacing furniture and other objects that his team ruined. From communication to execution, this is the worst, most slap-shod, amateurish, unprofessional business I have ever encountered in my life. In retrospect, I should have checked the Google Street View of Knoble's "offices," realized the address is just a crummy townhouse, and understood that this is not a legitimate operation. I strongly urge you to look someplace else for your moving needs. Literally anywhere else. Knoble Moving is the worst. read more

Thought this was a reputable company, but they're showing me otherwise. I've been a loyal customer, used Knoble Moving twice and told all my friends about them. On my most recent move, the movers cracked the glass on a poster of mine. Kevin, who I believe to be the owner? Called me to tell me they'd take the poster and fix it for me and return it a week later. It's now been 6 weeks and no poster. Even worse, they're ghosting my emails. I may be biased here, as I've never used movers before in my life, so the whole process was downright magical to me. I was initially only looking for unloading help at our new place in DC, but the long-distance rate Kevin gave me was extremely reasonable, and turned out to be a complete lifesaver. The guys were all friendly and pretty organized, and got the job done quickly and efficiently. There were a few dents and scratches on things, but my shit's all from Ikea, so it's not like heirlooms or whatever. Overall, I think this is a solid local business with extremely reasonable rates. If you have lots of valuables or are on a very tight moving schedule, it may not be right for you. However, if you're on a budget -- especially with a long haul move -- it simply shines. Utilized Knoble's services today and I was thoroughly impressed. Kevin and his teammate arrived 30 minutes early and called to ask if it was ok to start immediately. Who says no to efficiency? They jumped right in and had my items loaded to the truck in just a little over 30 minutes - without any issues. They got to my destination quickly and unloaded in about the same amount of time it took to load. In addition, Kevin was both professional and personable which made handing over some of my most prized possessions to a stranger feel very comfortable. The price is probably the best quote you'll find around town - especially for the care and service offered. Also, if you need furniture or large items wrapped for the move, they'll handle that for you. AND you don't have to worry about locating your checkbook or feeling unsafe and withdrawing cash - they accept debit and credit cards. These guys did really great on my last move a couple years, other than losing the check that I gave them in addition to the glass top to my chest of drawers. Yesterday I was supposed to receive a confirmation call from them, which I did not. Today I called and emailed them several times, to have them show up an hour and a half late. Amazing job for the price! I packed up 3/4 of my 2 bed/2 bath apartment and hired a team of 3 from Knoble to pack the rest and move everything into a townhouse. They come with everything: boxes, tape, paper, shrink wrap, dollys, and truck (everything included in price except boxes). They wrapped all of my furniture and glassware so well that it was pretty much indestructable afterward. They got everything into my new place where I wanted it and unwrapped in 4.5 hours. The best part, it only cost me $540. Other places in the area quoted me between $1500-$2000 for the move! All of my furniture is in tact and they took all of the wrapping trash out with them when they left. I would highly recommend these guys. read more

These guys were great. I used them for a move from DC to Boston of a 2 br apartment. Not only did they beat the prices of the big interstate moving companies, but they were able to give me exact dates for delivery up front, which was crucial to making my move work on such a tight timeframe. The crew was very professional and thorough in packing my fragile belongings and assembling and disassembling my furniture. Not a single box lost and no damage to any of my prized belongings. These folks are legit. My boyfriend called them 3 days before I needed to move after another larger company I had been working with for two weeks told me they were actually booked on the day we needed to move. So rude! These guys were available so we jumped on them without reading any reviews. On move day they showed up early and ready to work. They were super professional. Pointed out any existing nicks/bumps/scratches so there would be no confusion at the end. They wrapped anything that was breakable with their moving cloths. They even reassembled my bed once we got to the new spot! We not only tipped these guys but for their hard work we gave them some water and a plate of barbecue. They deserved it! I've used Knoble twice - once in 2011 moving from Adams Morgan to NYC (see Ann K's review), and once again recently moving from Pentagon City to Adams Morgan. This review is for the latter. Sidney, Will, and George were great. They called to let me know there was traffic & they'd be about 10 minutes late (fine - and I appreciated the call) and when they arrived they got right to work. They packed up my absurd amount of stuff, got over to my new place, and unloaded everything in the new apartment (dealing with not being able to fit the truck in the tiny loading driveway and a tiny elevator) in 3 hours exactly. Throughout the process they were unfailingly friendly and hard-working - no standing around trying to prolong the process. Moving is stressful enough as it is, and finding movers can be just as stressful - I want to know that my stuff is in good hands and that I'm not being nickel & dimed. I paid $360 + tip (actually the cheapest quote I got, out of almost 10) for the 3 hour move and it was hands down the best money I spent in this entire moving process. Bonus - they accept credit cards (cash tip, obviously). A surprising number of companies don't! read more

Scott and Will came to unload my moving truck into my new DC apartment. They were 30 mins late, but got straight to work. They were fast and efficient. My building has a loading dock/ large freight elevator and they took 90 minutes to unload into my unit. They were respectful of my things and diligent with where they put boxes (i.e. put boxes labeled kitchen in the kitchen, etc). I totally recommended them! The total cost was $160 ($80/ hour with a 2 hour minimum). They do not charge for travel time to and from your apartment which is a big bonus. Scott and Will were very professional. I've used Knoble Moving 4 times now and recommend them to everyone I know! They are quick to respond to requests, so helpful and professional, and quick and efficient with moves. Knoble also sells moving boxes in various sizes at great prices and will deliver them to your door! They carefully wrap valuables like TVs, mirrors, and art in blankets and bubble wrap, and put cling wrap around large furniture to ensure it all stays together and doesn't scrape any paint on its way in or out. I've been very impressed with Kevin and his team, with special thanks to Willie and Sidney. The prices are better than anyone else in town, and their attitudes and professionalism are even better! My roommate hired other movers that were double the cost, and the Knoble guys ended up helping her move some of her things to different rooms because her movers just put everything in one room and left. Can't recommend enough. Very professional, nice and skilled movers. I used Knoble for a move from DC back to the Midwest. I've had multiple bad experiences with moving companies in the past and Knoble exceeded all of my expectations. The price was lower than any other company I got estimates from for a 24 hour delivery turnaround. The only area of improvement for Knoble surrounds communication from Kevin. When initially arranging my move, I had a very hard time getting in touch with Kevin and at one point almost had to look for a new company because I was worried about their reliability. After about 2 weeks, Kevin and I did connect and my worries were alleviated. Overall, definitely recommend. read more

The movers arrived promptly, and were nice, hardworking guys. But they came without any plastic wrapping to protect my furniture, contrary to what I was promised by email. They then stacked my furniture, without protection, in a crowded storage unit. As a result, a number of new and antique pieces of wooden furniture were scratched, dinged, and gashed. A month later, Knoble failed to deliver one item from the storage unit, and accidentally delivered two boxes that weren't mine. I had to drive to the storage unit to return the boxes (a favor for which I was never thanked) and to retrieve my missing item. Knoble waved the cost of storage, but it was not enough to compensate me for the damage and stress they caused. read more

The movers were careful and skilled with moving our belongings. They moved quickly and deliberately, and helped us make the move as painless as possible. These guys are great. I was moving from Chicago to DC a few months back and I got cost estimates from your "well established national movers" to the "local" movers. Plus I wanted the move to be without stops (I did not want my stuff to be put in storage or anything). I wanted to drive my car and have the movers haul my stuff at the same time so I'd arrive just a few hours before they did. I got wild estimates... when I called Knoble, I could not believe their cost estimate. Compared to the others, it was 4-10 thousand dollars cheaper... I had to keep telling them, this is what I want... and it was almost too good to be true. True, they hired a U haul, true they got hired help to do some of the moving but it was an amazing cost. The owner of Knoble actually drove the van himself and helped me move the stuff to my place. If you think these guys are wayyyy to cheap they are. And they do a great job too. We had to pay to book elevators at both our old apartment and new apartment. The movers came almost 3 hours late, at the very end of the appointment window at our old apartment, which meant that the dock ended up closing and the movers could not use the loading dock or service elevator. Because they were so late, they also missed our appointment at our new apartment. Because they had to use narrow doors and hallways that weren't meant for moving, and because they were so late and rushing, they broke part of my bed, my roommate's desk chair, and completely ruined her desk beyond repair. They also shattered our glass-bottomed serving tray. Do yourself a favor and go with WeHaul, which I had tried to do but contacted them too late. read more

The crew from Knoble recently moved my wife and I from DC to Seattle, and we were very glad they did. This company moved me from DC to NY four years ago and NY to DC this week. The first move went really well, the second one had some snafus but in the end everything was packed, delivered, and nothing was broken. And they worked really fast to make up for some delays with the truck. read more

I wouldn't recommend Knoble Movers. We moved from Washington, DC to Boston. In DC we had a larger one bedroom apartment so I made sure we had a company representative come and do a walk-through to make sure we had the proper sized truck on move day. On the day of the move, the company sent a truck that was significantly too small. We had to throw out a number of items that would have been moved otherwise, and this was after filling our car with as many boxes as possible. I've reached out to the company twice regarding the incorrect size of the truck but have not heard anything in response. The one positive was that the men who came to conduct the actual move were fantastic and genuinely felt bad that the truck provided was too small. read more

They came highly recommended from another moving company in DC that does not do distance moves and for good reason. From the moment I contacted Kevin to get a quote, to the loading day in DC and the delivery/unpacking in Florida, Knoble Moving was efficient and professional and took great care of my belongings. They packed my one-bedroom apartment in less than 2-hours and unloaded (and assembled my furniture) in the same amount of time. If I could give this mover zero stars, I would. Avoid Knoble Moving at all costs. Kelvin terribly failed in every way, irresponsible and unreliable. Use other moving company, if you don't want to get ripped off. I trusted all the good reviews, and turned out that it's the worst decision I've ever made. The move was scheduled to begin at 12 PM. Kelvin, however, showed up at 2.30 PM despite knowing that an elevator at my new place would be closed at 3 PM. I kept calling him since 1 PM, but he never picked up. Without surprise, they didn't make it to the new place before the elevator was closed. I could not move my furnishers back to my old apartment because a new tenant was also moving in that day. A building manager at my new place's very strict and insisted that the fee of $500 would be applied if I moved after 3 PM. Kevin refused to take any responsibility for his action. After half an hour or so of arguing, Kevin finally let me leave my furnitures in his truck and I had to sleep on the floor at the new apartment that night. I felt so desperate and awful because the elevator was booked throughout the week, while Kevin would let me store my furniture in his truck only for a night. After I kept begging the building manager for help, she finally told me that probably the person who reserved the elevator at 9 AM tomorrow might be running a bit late and I might be able to move in during 9- 9.30 AM. Kelvin promised that he would be responsible for the next day move and would be right on time. I kept telling him that it was very important to be on time. If he's late again, I would have to wait until next week to be able to move in. Turned out that he was an HOUR LATE. Again, I kept calling, but that did not help anything. I can't believe how unprofessional and irresponsible this company is! After the move, I found that my mattress and many other stuffs are damaged. Kelvin again promised to contact the insurance company to recompense for damages. He never did. In fact, I called him so many times to follow up on the issue. He obviously avoids my call. I need to use different numbers to be able to reach him and all he did is giving me a promise that he never fulfill. This's more than a month, but nothing ever happens. NEVER NEVER use this company. Don't be fool by $50 off, it does not worth it. Terrible is all. read more
