In my home country, we say the best desserts are the ones that are not "too sweet." I can tell you with confidence that Kinnamon's desserts are definitely not that. To be fair, I did get their Strawberry Lemon curd, which was topped with the sugared strawberry cubes and gooey lemon curd. I figured since I had a cinnamon bun craving and made it here, I might as well treat myself. The cinnamon bun itself was good. It was soft and fluffy. However, the presentation was lacking. I was dining in but was given a to go container instead of a plate. When I opened the lid, all I saw was a soup of goo. On top of that, the gooey topping was too sweet. If you like your bubble tea sweet, this is your place. However, if you are like me, a 1/2 sugar kinda girl, the strawberry lemon curd bun here is too sweet. I had to chase it with two cups of water and seriously question my dessert choice afterward. The shop was clean and cute, and the staff were friendly enough, so no complaints with the shop and service. One of my favorite bakeries that I first went to about four years ago and they just have some thick gooey yummy and delicious cinnamon rolls and I love their specials that they have for each season or just limited additions that come up because Eunik and I just recently tried the new Nutella one which is of course amazing because who doesn't love Nutella? A welcome addition to the Cedar Hills area! There aren't too many warm dessert options around the area so I'm glad they decided to open a dedicated cinnamon roll spot. I like how they make each cinnamon roll to order, so the toppings and frosting melt into the cinnamon roll. I've enjoyed a few of their flavors before so I was ready to come back and try even more flavors. This time, we got the Blueberry Crumble and Pumpkin Pie. The Blueberry Crumble was delightful, I love how the blueberry compliments the sweet cream cheese and the crumble adds a nice texture to it. The Pumpkin Pie was good too, although the pumpkin flavor was too subtle for me. Among the flavors I tried, the Strawberry Lemon Curd was the best, the tartness of the strawberry and lemon balance the sweetness of the cream cheese and dough very well. I have been eyeballing this place since they opened in Portland, (because cinnamon rolls!) but I live on the west side and it seemed a bit much to drive all the way over there for a sweet baked good. Then they opened one in Cedar Hills. Well, ok then! So Minion #1 and I ducked in today and we shared two rolls, a maple bacon and a blueberry crumble. They were both warm. They were good, the blueberry was very very sweet. I liked the fresh blueberries but I preferred the maple bacon roll and honestly I think the actual roll part with the yummy caramelized bottom was so good I can skip the extra bells and whistles stuff on top next time and go with a plain frosted or even unfrosted one. Honestly, what made me order was the idea of different types of rolls. I saw the flavor list and was practically screaming YES! It is about time!! I get the name IS cinnamon roll. But, the issue with cinnamon is that one you even sprinkle it near something, that is, genuinely, all you taste. So all these amazing sounding flavors look gorgeous - seriously, works of delicious art but taste like every other cinnamon roll.
