In the shadow of the Chinatown welcome gate in the ID section of downtown Seattle, hides an absolute Chinese soup gem that should not be missed. Without being hyperbolic, this was the best bowl of soup I've had many, many years. The ordering is interactive insomuch as you use a pen to check off from categories that build your bowl: Six different broths Six different noodle types Two different veges Over 30 different toppings (mostly animal proteins from the familiar like beef brisket to the obscure like pork kidney) We had one bowl with fish soup broth, vermicelli noodles with won tons and pork spareribs. The soup was subtle and not fishy at all. The spareribs were deeply flavorful with a warm five spice rub that would be delectable as a meal unto itself. The other bowl was a sour and hot soup foundation with won tons, bbq pork squares and larger egg noodles with crispy cabbage. The soup itself was super savory with just a touch red pepper flakes heat. And the smoothness of the noodles balanced well with the crunch of the cabbage chunks. The bbq pork was perfectly moist and flavored with a subtle bbq rub. A bowl of congee was also a revelation if congee is your thing. Silky texture with just the right savory to sweet ratio. I've only had congee at a handful of other places, and this was the finest consistency I've ever slurped. As mentioned in other reviews, the dining area is small - maybe 12 tables - and there's one bathroom for all genders to share. Not an issue unless you have a big party or come with babies who need changing. And, of course, parking is first-come street parking which can be a chore. So be patient and keep circling the blocks around King Street until a spot opens up (reminder that on Sundays street parking is free.) Also, there's no beer available which can be a bummer to some, so ice water or soda will have to suffice. But on an overcast and chilly day, there's nothing more comforting than a King Noodle bowl to set your spirits right. (The same holds true for a hangover on any given weekend.) read more

The noodles here are entirely customizable (which broth, toppings, meat, and noodles you want), and every choice is delicious. I've never had a bad combination here. This is also my favorite spot for dumplings - they're so huge too. This place is pretty generous with portion size. I've also tried the congee here before and enjoyed it. This is also the place to go for hot HK milk tea. Everything comes out piping hot and fresh, and I've never had a disappointing meal here. King Noodle is in the latter category, being around the corner from its shinier competitor, Mike (who does have good food). King Noodle offers a wider array of choices, more categories of food types, and accepts credit cards! Their food is on-point, and their prices are very reasonable for a sizable portion of food. King closed for a very long time post COVID, and we finally made our first return visit. The meal is so homey, satisfying, and we have lots of leftovers. The restaurant is simple and tidy. The soup is fabulous; the noodles have a wonderful chew and texture. The wontons are made fresh daily with fresh pork; these will still look somewhat pink after cooking. My only small ding is they use canned button mushrooms, which is kinda gross. I wish these were the black Chinese mushrooms. The little shop peaks out to the view of the courtyard in Chinatown Seattle. The menu is pretty simple, you order either a congee, noodle bowl, or a rice bowl. Then you pick two selections for each of the main bowls and then order with the waiter. The place is a bit small so when it gets packed the chairs tend to touch on some of the other chair and tables. We came in around 11 and was the first one there but around 12pm it started getting packed. The food was pretty good and to the core very much authentic. I went to King Noodle during the Seattle Original Night Market in Chinatown. We stopped by because the display of ramen bowls and dumplings in the window caught our attention. It's a small hole-in-the-wall spot, and it was fairly busy when we entered. My partner and I weren't greeted by a single staff member. We saw an empty table across the room, but instead of welcoming us, the server simply pointed for seat here. Once we sat down, he slid menus across the table with pens. The menu itself wasn't very clear -- descriptions of the items were vague -- so it took us a while to figure out what to order. From the start, we already felt unwelcome and judged by both the server and a group of people nearby. My partner is Black and Japanese, and I'm Indigenous and Hispanic. We're also queer and visibly queer. From the constant stares, the giggling from a nearby table, and the silent treatment from the server, it was hard not to feel like we were being judged for who we are. When our food started arriving, I went to the self-serve station for soy sauce, chili, Sriracha, vinegar, and small to-go packets. It was crowded, and I kept having to move out of the server's way, apologizing and saying "excuse me" multiple times. The dishes came out one by one, hot and visually appealing, but unfortunately they lacked flavor. The soup broth wasn't hot enough and was bland, the chicken base was weak, and the dumplings were mediocre. We tried to keep eating, but with each dish, our discomfort grew -- the stares, the judgmental atmosphere, and the silence from the server made it unbearable. When my ramen bowl finally arrived, I tried a couple of bites before reaching for my soda. The bottle fizzed over suddenly, spilling everywhere -- on me, the table, and the floor. I felt embarrassed, especially as the girls sitting across from us giggled. I tried to get the server's attention, but eventually had to stand up to ask for napkins or a mop. I didn't mind helping clean up since he was busy, but he said nothing and handed me only a small handful of napkins before mopping part of the floor. He only cleaned the area near the other customers, leaving the puddle under our table. My partner even had to lift their chair out of the mess. To make matters worse, I'm pretty sure the server didn't wash his hands after using the mop. By this point, my partner and I just wanted to leave. Between the constant stares, giggles, silence, rushed service, bland food, and now sitting in a puddle, we were completely drained. My partner asked for boxes to pack up the food, and although we were given containers, we had to ask again later for a bag. We paid and left, feeling awful. Once we got home, our stomachs started hurting. I checked the pork dumplings we had eaten and discovered they were completely pink and raw inside. That was the final straw. This experience was traumatizing -- we wanted to cry. Now we're dealing with possible food poisoning on top of everything else, and we both have work tomorrow. We'll be asking for a refund, because nothing about this experience was worth our hard-earned money. It's pretty accessible to American preferences if you can decipher the menu. This is one of those places where you put a check next to the stuff you want on a piece of paper. A few ingredients are unfamiliar but just ask. It's about $11 for the Noodle Combo. First you choose the soup base. Vegetarian one is the Thai Tom Yum Goong. After this you choose the noodles and toppings, any combination. I got it with the vermicelli. A lot to choose from. The toppings we chose included bean sprouts, leeks, and tofu skins. Bowls were full. This was the best of the noodle places around here at least in my opinion. Crazy thing is that it opens early. It's located on King Street between Maynard and 6th amongst many other noodle places around here. They actually open at 10 A.M., so you can get noodles at breakfast if you really are craving these, or maybe hungover and will just anything put on a plate. read more

That's what we'd called it, I had to look it up by the address to leave this review. King is a tiny place with very fast turn over during lunch. The windows even get fogged up. They have a LEGO set kind of menu: you pick the pieces you want, they put them in the soup. They do "Chinese Donuts" which aren't donuts but which go great with the soup. This time I went because I heard their stone pot rice dishes rival that of some other places in Chinatown I visit frequently, some of which I still consider my favorites. I went here during a Saturday around 6pm, and there was plenty of seating inside. There's not many tables but the place feels relatively quiet, which is nice when it's hot outside. My friend and I were seated relatively quickly and we made our orders. The server was really kind to accommodate one of my orders and answer questions I had on the menu. I ordered a stone pot rice with pork spareribs, Chinese sausage and eggs. As a side note, you get to choose two toppings for your stone pot rice, and get charged extra for each extra topping you add. This may also be the case when ordering noodle soup here too. The whole pot felt pretty much exactly what I'd expect from a stone pot rice bowl and more. I loved how I could choose the toppings and make it more of my own, and everything tasted great together! Both my friend and I were very satisfied. I love noodles, and King Noodle hits the noodle and soup spot for me. The restaurant is small- it has 9 metal tables crammed into a cozy space, and you can see the kitchen through a small window in the back. I've only ever seen the same man working there; he is quiet but friendly and efficient. When you walk in, you'll be pounted to an empty table. The server (the aforementioned man) will bring utensils, water, and a half sheet of paper. This paper is your menu and order form. I like to get the pork and vegetable dumplings, pan fried, of course, and a bowl of soup. The menu/order form def felt overwhelming my first time there. There are no pictures or descriptions of any of the items. I have since learned that- you can't really go wrong with any of your choices. My noodle order of choic is usually something like- original soup, noodles (yep, one of the noodle option is just "noodles" among choices like "flat rice noodle" and "udon"), cabbage, beansprouts, wontons, and another meat or vegetable. I got roast duck the most recent time. This gets me a large bowl full of delicious and filling food. I love the texture of the cabbage and beansprouts against the perfectly tender noodles. I have not had their rice bowls, but they come out sizzling and seems to be a favorite amonst the regulars. I got there around 11:50AM on a week day last time, and noticed I was just ahead of a rush that came in around noon. We ordered the build your own noodles (with wonton noodles and szechuan spicy broth) and the congee. Both were so tasty and really hit the spot. The beef short rib had pieces of cartilage/tendon and fat which I'm not a big fan of, but other than that both toppings were great. Congee was also really delicious and had the expected congee taste. You can also choose toppings for this dish as well! It was piping hot, thick, and savory. However, it was not too cramped inside and reasonably clean. My group ordered three noodle soup bowls with various toppings and soup bases. The server was very friendly, and even gave us some recommendations. While the portion sizes were good, food overall left a little to be desired. For our soup bases we got the hot and spicy, Szechuan, and the tom yum with the QQ noodles. we found that the soups, with the exception of the tom yum, were not flavorful enough for our tastes. Also, the QQ noodles were very smooth and did not absorb or add to the soups.
