Fantastic date night place! Service is excellent. The waitstaff is attentive without being overly intrusive. They seem to come around at the right time. Food is delicious. Always tastes fresh, savory and homemade.
What a cozy little house restaurant! Great service- super friendly & efficient. Food was excellent. Started with Hot Artichoke & Spinach dip, served with tasty (homemade? ) chips. Wow! Then entrees were Scallops & Risotto, and Braised Beef & Risotto. Both were amazing! A bit pricier than we'd expected (about $100) but delicious! We'll be back!
This place was the cutest little joint! I can't remember how I found it... Maybe some local TV show? In any event, off my wife and I went to Cibolo for a "date night". It's an old home "downtown" Cibolo, if that's thing. It seems to be divided into two areas. Inside to the right is a brighter lit table/bar area...and then to the left...a more romantic ambiance. A very cozy feel all the way around. We began our meal with the mozzarella appetizer. Melted cheese and fantastic garlic bread!? Yes, please. Y'all this bread was some of the most perfectly toasted and tasting bread I've ever had. We ate the whole batch. In fact, we were so full we ended up taking our entrees to go. We ordered the Braised Beef Risotto and Lobster cake stuffed Salmon. I snacked a little bit on the Lobster cake Stuffed Salmon before we boxed it to go, and unfortunately, it was good, but dry. That's probably the only reason it's not a five star review. I'd definitely recommend the beef and risotto. That was fantastic! Even reheated. You definitely get your moneys worth here in portion sizes. Service was spot on throughout. No complaints there. I'm definitely willing to go back!
While waiting for some friends to meet us at Old Main, we stopped in to Kindling because I was hangry!!! lol. We were greeted kindly and seated shortly after. They had a variety of things on the menu that seemed worth trying but we opted to share the pastrami platter and braised Beef Risotto plates. The pastrami platter was the star of the show for the night. The variety of items on the plate paired well with the toasted bread. It really was amazing. My wife was extremely impressed with the cherry sauce. The braised beef was good too. We didn't care too much for the risotto though. Overall, the atmosphere was great and versatile. Perfect for a date night or family dinner. Definitely check them out.
If you haven't been to Kindling Tex's Kitchen yet... RUN. Don't walk. This place is everything I love about Texas cooking -- bold flavor, cozy atmosphere, and food that tastes like someone's Southern grandma and a top chef teamed up in the best way possible. From the moment I walked in, the smell of smoke, butter, and fresh herbs hit me in the face (in the best way). The staff was so friendly and welcoming -- the kind of service where you can tell they love what they do and genuinely want you to enjoy your meal.
The best quality and delicious dinner you can have in the Cibolo-Schertz area and maybe in Texas. It is that good! The place is cozy and romantic, the food delicious and the service is wonderful.
Let me tell you! I've actually been wanting to visit this restaurant for quite some time. An opportunity came up and I was able to get to the restaurant with a few friends. At first glance , I thought the restaurant was absolutely adorable, i love that they repurposed an old home , and they kept a lot of really neat vintage pieces and a look as far as atmosphere goes. I felt it was very welcoming. I also love the fact that you could see the cooks in the kitchen. The service was really great.I don't believe we had an empty glass or ever had to ask for a refill on our drinks. Now for the food! When I tell you it is probably one of the best meals I've had in a while.I am not lying. My chicken was cooked to perfection. The flavor of my dish was absolutely delicious and comforting. The vegetables were cooked to perfection, i don't remember the last time I wanted more cooked carrots on my plate! My friends that join me , really had nothing but great things to say about it. Everybody agreed I picked well! We ordered seared scallops wrapped in bacon for the table, my scallop was so good.I almost didn't want to share. One of my friends also got their crusted fish (not pictured) and the brazed beef dish, ( also not pictured) I would one 100% go again as well as refer this restaurant to anybody who really wanted delicious food.
Dinner at Kindling was a wonderful culinary experience- simultaneously "upscale" with the menu offerings and "down home" with the ambiance. The restaurant is situated in downtown Cibolo on Main Street in a repurposed historical home. It is filled with antique (or antique-adjacent) furnishings and decor. Soft AOR music was playing at a level that was perfect as to not impact discussions, but loud enough to enjoy. We began our meal with drinks and a Sourdough Service. More on the drinks at the end of this review. The dish came with several slices of a delicious Sourdough bread and was served with an Umami and herb butter which also came with a choice of pastrami, whey cheese, or seasonal jam (raspberry). We opted for all three for an up charge which allowed us to mix and match a variety of flavors by putting different combinations of the above onto to the sourdough. The one suggestion I would make is that if guests opt for the up-sale to get all 3 of the add-ons that another slice or two of sourdough is warranted. We wound up leaving more than half of each of those add-on toppings uneaten as we ran out of sourdough. Just a suggestion. For the main course my wife and I both got risotto dishes hers with scallops and mine with shrimp and both were fantastic! We both agreed that the risotto was one of the best we have ever had- it was done perfectly and had a perfect amount of butter, cheese, and spices and the sautéed mushrooms added a nice texture and overall flavor to the dish. Add the protein (shrimp or scallops for us) and a slight dip of the homemade sauce provided on the side and it was a perfect bite every time! Our dinner companions ordered a grilled shrimp and scallops and lobster cake stuffed salmon and they both were very impressed with their dishes as well. For dessert my wife and I shared the Bourbon Bread pudding, which was absolutely delicious and came served warm and was perfectly dense and moist as one expects bread pudding to be. The chocolate sauce and crunchy, chopped nuts on top finished off the bite nicely. Our companions got the salted caramel chocolate cake. We were offered ice cream on the side for each dessert but we declined. However we all agreed that it would have been a perfect complement to either dish. Finally, the one thing that could have been better would have been consistency from the bar. Having said that, it obviously wasn't bad enough to not give 5-stars. The issue was that we ordered 3 rounds of Old-fashions over the course the f the meal and each round had very distinctive differences in taste- not sure if it was different bartenders making each round, or different liquors used, but there was a recognizable difference in flavor profiles for each round. All-in-all my wife and I had a fantastic evening dinner with friends and I imagine we will be back to enjoy some of the other interesting dishes on the menu.
Upon walking in the hostess was on her phone but she did greet us right away. We told her we had a reservation and she checked us in. The restaurant itself is definitely a gentrification. It's one of the original homes in Cibolo turned into a quaint restaurant. The atmosphere was definitely a little louder than you would think for the "upscale" they are attempting to be. The price of the food was definitely on level of a steakhouse like JPrime or Flemings. To start we ordered the fresh baked mozzarella which was ok. It tasted like HEB pasta sauce with added crushed tomatoes and pearl mozzarella which were all clumped so it made scooping with the garlic toast difficult. The garlic ciabatta bread was on point though. I ordered a blueberry mule which surprised us because they don't use muddled blueberries but a blueberry flavored vodka so don't be surprised when it comes out not blue or pinkish but it looks like a margarita. It's good...so don't be fooled. While we waited for the main course we got a little cold. Unfortunately we were actively going thru a "northern spring" event so the awesomeness of the ac with the cold outside was not doing ok for us. The windows aren't double panes and you can feel the draft thru the walls and window so it was quite nippy in our area. The table next to us got seated twice and both times they moved the people because of the draft. For the main course I got the lemon basil shrimp risotto which was good. It came out with a sauce on the side but it didn't need it. It was full of flavor without it and surprisingly there was shrimp within the risotto and not just the three sitting on top. My husband got the chicken Florentine which he wasn't a fan of. He said the chicken was seasoned well but the pasta didn't hold the sauce and he said it didn't taste like they salted the water for it. He did not take his food to go that he couldn't finish but I did. Lastly, for dessert we got the bread pudding. It was the star and decadent. Overall minus the annoying fly that was flying around it was an ok place. Definitely a go to for dessert.
A Must-Visit Local Gem! If you're in the Cibolo area and looking for a top-notch dining experience, Kindling Texas Kitchen is an absolute must. My husband and I wanted to support a local spot instead of a chain, and we were beyond impressed. Be sure to make reservations--this cozy and charming restaurant is clearly a favorite among locals, and for good reason! From the moment we walked in, we were greeted warmly and seated right away. We started with the Rockefeller Oysters, served with garlic bread, and they were incredible--rich, flavorful, and the perfect kickoff to our meal. For our entrees, my husband had the Mixed Seafood Linguine paired with a refreshing Blueberry Mule, and I chose the Shrimp and Scallops with mashed potatoes and grilled mixed veggies. We also shared a side of cornbread with honey butter--a sweet and savory treat we couldn't resist. Let me just say, they do not hold back on quality or quantity. The shrimp were massive, the scallops were buttery soft, and everything was cooked and seasoned to perfection. The portions were so generous, we had plenty left over to enjoy the next day. We finished off with desserts to-go: the Salted Caramel Chocolate Cake and Bread Pudding. Both were rich, indulgent, and the perfect sweet ending to a fantastic meal. Shoutout to our server, Haley, who was attentive, friendly, and made our evening even more enjoyable. This is definitely going to be one of our new go-to spots. If you're looking for delicious food, warm service, and a great local atmosphere--Kindling Texas Kitchen delivers.

Went to this cute little place for our anniversary dinner. Unfortunately I had a little cold and couldn't taste very well. Overall the wine and the dine was a great combination. I would definitely go back and try another plate. Service was great as well, explained the menu. read more
DELICIOUS. A little expensive for Schertz and no one working was wearing masks (I think texas has officially moved on from them) , but otherwise a top notch experience. We learned that they are largely farm to table, which would help explain the pricing based on the cost of doing business with local farmers and supporting the regional economy - which is great. We shared the scallops special and the lamb shank and they were SO tasty. I don't care for carrots but I took them all home and ate them happily the next day. Jennifer was our server and she was attentive but not overbearing. Go and treat yourself! read more
Came here last year and really enjoyed it then. Tonight wasn't quite as good. Not sure if it was just us trying different dishes or the fruit flies incessantly flying around our food and wine throughout dinner. The service was still good though- our waitress was really nice, as well as the rest of the staff. Ambiance/aesthetic of the place was cute and I didn't mind the music haha but I'm not sure I was expecting the pop music in a restaurant like that. read more

Excellent food, wonderful service and a quiet space for a perfect date night. The steak was juicy and a perfect medium, the crab bisque was tasty, and the red snapper with lump crab meat was cooked perfectly and flaked just right! Our new favorite spot in Cibolo! read more

Fantastic service, ambiance, and food! It was a bit pricey, but worth every penny! Had the barrel aged old fashioned, crab cakes, corn bread, potato fingers, braised beef risotto, and the Texas whiskey Braised Osso Bucco. The pork fell of the bone and had great depth of flavor, the roasted tomatoes and peppers matched it well! The corn bread had honey and was perfectly moist! The crab cakes had a slight too much bread crumbs in the mix but where very well prepared. And the Risotto was perfectly al dente. read more
I sometimes wonder if I've found THE place I'd eat everything under the sun that they offer, and then you stumble in and discover there are quite a few more than I expected ... this is one of those places. Charming in Cibolo, is what I like to call it. The food and service is ALWAYS amazing, dined in three times in the last 5 weeks & happily shared that experience with friends. Parking can be a challenge-my recommendation is to set up early reservations on weekend evenings. I'll be back for that delicious shank! read more
Went here for Valentine's Day and considering the size of this place, it booked up fast. We sat at the bar and ordered drinks. The cherry limeade was served in a tall mason jar which was cute. The restaurant is a house converted to restaurant and thus limited space. We ordered the valentine 3 course meal (charbroiled oysters, the surf and turf and tiramisu) and the porkchop with veggies. The surf and turf involved a filet mignon, 2 large pieces of shrimp, roasted vegetables and potato au gratin. The portion size was perfect. It didn't look like a lot but after dinner, I had no room for dessert. The pork chop was grilled and well seasoned with some apples. It was a perfect combination of sweet and savory. read more

Everything was PERFECT! The food is AMAZING and the service is GREAT! Definitely worth your money read more
The food at Kindling Texas Kitchen tastes like home cooking on one of those special days when you have time to go to the farmers market at get the best seasonal ingredients and cook it just right. It was a delight to bite into our food and enjoy the flavors of the fresh ingredients without overpowering saltiness or seasoning. We both ordered seafood. The scallops were tender inside and smoky outside. The blackened redfish had lots of flavor besides the char. A dish of cornbread was just sweet enough, and it was served nice and warm. The peach cobbler dessert was outstanding, from the texture of the fresh peaches on your tongue to the biscuit and ice cream, bubbling out of oven-hot cast iron. The setting, in a cute old house with clever decor, works for intimate date nights or family gatherings. Old Town Cibolo is a bit out of our way, but we will make the drive for another meal at Kindling Texas Kitchen. read more

The food was amazing and worth the price. The service was excellent. But the ambiance lacking with kids running around and screaming and parents not correcting them. I'm hoping this was a one time occurrence. Staff didn't say anything to that table. read more

I wanted a place where it was dog friendly and eating outside on a nice evening. I have read great reviews on this restaurant and finally got to visit today. It is recommended to do reservations, so do them so there is no delay in getting seated. We started with Rockefeller oysters, 1/2 dozen oysters broiled with whiskey aioli and spinach with side of ciabatta bread. Ordered for main entrée: 1. Crab cake stuffed salmon served with spinach rice and seasonal vegetables. 2. Braised beef in Demi Glace with Risotto, King Trumpet mushrooms, Roasted Squash and Chimichurri. Paired the salmon with Barone Pinot Grigio Valdadige and the beef with Erath Resplendent Pinot Noir. The dishes were amazing, tender, flavorful and fresh! Highly recommend coming here for an unforgettable dinner and service. read more

Our server was great! Overall, the entrées were good, but the ribeye wasn't very well seasoned. Same with the lobster risotto, not super well seasoned. The crab artichoke dip was amazing though! read more

4.5 stars. Quaint little spot in Cibolo. The house has about 18 tables, so reservations are highly recommended. It was restaurant week, so my friend took advantage of that special. I opted to order off the menu. We ordered some starters because we were intrigued by their description. We had the Brussel sprouts, Mac and cheese, and the loaded bacon burger. My friend had the Oyster Rockefeller and raw oysters, lobster bisque, seafood pasta, and cheesecake for dessert. The place filled up quickly, but the wait staff kept up well. The Brussel sprouts were delicious, roasted to perfection. The Mac and cheese was a little sweet because of the pork, but once I added some salt to balance the flavor, it was more to our liking. I brought the rest home, so I will happily enjoy the leftovers. The burger was huge. It had house made pickles that had a nice crunch and flavor. After the Brussels sprouts and Mac, I was already stuffed, so I could only eat half of the burger. Portion size is not a problem at this restaurant for sure. My friend said the lobster bisque needed a little more cream, but she enjoyed her seafood pasta. I am not a fan of seafood pasta, but it smelled really good. We definitely enjoyed the atmosphere and the food. Check out the pictures of what we ordered. read more

We attended a Bday dinner and this was our first time here. The restaurant is in an old house which I thought was pretty cool. The decor is creative and clean setting. The prices were a little elevated but it was definitely worth splurging on delicious fresh food. Customer service was good. I would definitely come back! read more

It's been a while since we've been here, but definitely plan to frequent here more after last night's meal. Everything was cooked to perfection and so flavorful without being overpowering. The loaded fingerling potatoes were my husband's fave and the pork chop rivals Perry's. The red fish paired so well with the seasonal vegetables and onion purée. And our server was very welcoming and attentive. This place is a true gem in Cibolo. read more

During the pandemic Kindling stepped up and created survival kits for some essential cooking items. I did purchase a few times curbside. Service was amazing. Online ordering was simple and easy to use. Just last week my family and I ordered 5 lbs crawfish from their crawfish boil. It was great. My family had a great dinner that evening without having to do all the cooking needed for prep for a boil. Kindling is a great. Their curbside pick up makes it easy for customers to pick up while social distancing. Thank you. Stars. 1 star for service 1 star for ready online ordering 1 star for food 1 star for curbside pickup 1 star for overall experience Stay safe read more
