Fantastic date night place! Service is excellent. The waitstaff is attentive without being overly intrusive. They seem to come around at the right time. Food is delicious. Always tastes fresh, savory and homemade.
What a cozy little house restaurant! Great service- super friendly & efficient. Food was excellent. Started with Hot Artichoke & Spinach dip, served with tasty (homemade? ) chips. Wow! Then entrees were Scallops & Risotto, and Braised Beef & Risotto. Both were amazing! A bit pricier than we'd expected (about $100) but delicious! We'll be back!
This place was the cutest little joint! I can't remember how I found it... Maybe some local TV show? In any event, off my wife and I went to Cibolo for a "date night". It's an old home "downtown" Cibolo, if that's thing. It seems to be divided into two areas. Inside to the right is a brighter lit table/bar area...and then to the left...a more romantic ambiance. A very cozy feel all the way around. We began our meal with the mozzarella appetizer. Melted cheese and fantastic garlic bread!? Yes, please. Y'all this bread was some of the most perfectly toasted and tasting bread I've ever had. We ate the whole batch. In fact, we were so full we ended up taking our entrees to go. We ordered the Braised Beef Risotto and Lobster cake stuffed Salmon. I snacked a little bit on the Lobster cake Stuffed Salmon before we boxed it to go, and unfortunately, it was good, but dry. That's probably the only reason it's not a five star review. I'd definitely recommend the beef and risotto. That was fantastic! Even reheated. You definitely get your moneys worth here in portion sizes. Service was spot on throughout. No complaints there. I'm definitely willing to go back!
While waiting for some friends to meet us at Old Main, we stopped in to Kindling because I was hangry!!! lol. We were greeted kindly and seated shortly after. They had a variety of things on the menu that seemed worth trying but we opted to share the pastrami platter and braised Beef Risotto plates. The pastrami platter was the star of the show for the night. The variety of items on the plate paired well with the toasted bread. It really was amazing. My wife was extremely impressed with the cherry sauce. The braised beef was good too. We didn't care too much for the risotto though. Overall, the atmosphere was great and versatile. Perfect for a date night or family dinner. Definitely check them out.
If you haven't been to Kindling Tex's Kitchen yet... RUN. Don't walk. This place is everything I love about Texas cooking -- bold flavor, cozy atmosphere, and food that tastes like someone's Southern grandma and a top chef teamed up in the best way possible. From the moment I walked in, the smell of smoke, butter, and fresh herbs hit me in the face (in the best way). The staff was so friendly and welcoming -- the kind of service where you can tell they love what they do and genuinely want you to enjoy your meal.
The best quality and delicious dinner you can have in the Cibolo-Schertz area and maybe in Texas. It is that good! The place is cozy and romantic, the food delicious and the service is wonderful.
Let me tell you! I've actually been wanting to visit this restaurant for quite some time. An opportunity came up and I was able to get to the restaurant with a few friends. At first glance , I thought the restaurant was absolutely adorable, i love that they repurposed an old home , and they kept a lot of really neat vintage pieces and a look as far as atmosphere goes. I felt it was very welcoming. I also love the fact that you could see the cooks in the kitchen. The service was really great.I don't believe we had an empty glass or ever had to ask for a refill on our drinks. Now for the food! When I tell you it is probably one of the best meals I've had in a while.I am not lying. My chicken was cooked to perfection. The flavor of my dish was absolutely delicious and comforting. The vegetables were cooked to perfection, i don't remember the last time I wanted more cooked carrots on my plate! My friends that join me , really had nothing but great things to say about it. Everybody agreed I picked well! We ordered seared scallops wrapped in bacon for the table, my scallop was so good.I almost didn't want to share. One of my friends also got their crusted fish (not pictured) and the brazed beef dish, ( also not pictured) I would one 100% go again as well as refer this restaurant to anybody who really wanted delicious food.
Dinner at Kindling was a wonderful culinary experience- simultaneously "upscale" with the menu offerings and "down home" with the ambiance. The restaurant is situated in downtown Cibolo on Main Street in a repurposed historical home. It is filled with antique (or antique-adjacent) furnishings and decor. Soft AOR music was playing at a level that was perfect as to not impact discussions, but loud enough to enjoy. We began our meal with drinks and a Sourdough Service. More on the drinks at the end of this review. The dish came with several slices of a delicious Sourdough bread and was served with an Umami and herb butter which also came with a choice of pastrami, whey cheese, or seasonal jam (raspberry). We opted for all three for an up charge which allowed us to mix and match a variety of flavors by putting different combinations of the above onto to the sourdough. The one suggestion I would make is that if guests opt for the up-sale to get all 3 of the add-ons that another slice or two of sourdough is warranted. We wound up leaving more than half of each of those add-on toppings uneaten as we ran out of sourdough. Just a suggestion. For the main course my wife and I both got risotto dishes hers with scallops and mine with shrimp and both were fantastic! We both agreed that the risotto was one of the best we have ever had- it was done perfectly and had a perfect amount of butter, cheese, and spices and the sautéed mushrooms added a nice texture and overall flavor to the dish. Add the protein (shrimp or scallops for us) and a slight dip of the homemade sauce provided on the side and it was a perfect bite every time! Our dinner companions ordered a grilled shrimp and scallops and lobster cake stuffed salmon and they both were very impressed with their dishes as well. For dessert my wife and I shared the Bourbon Bread pudding, which was absolutely delicious and came served warm and was perfectly dense and moist as one expects bread pudding to be. The chocolate sauce and crunchy, chopped nuts on top finished off the bite nicely. Our companions got the salted caramel chocolate cake. We were offered ice cream on the side for each dessert but we declined. However we all agreed that it would have been a perfect complement to either dish. Finally, the one thing that could have been better would have been consistency from the bar. Having said that, it obviously wasn't bad enough to not give 5-stars. The issue was that we ordered 3 rounds of Old-fashions over the course the f the meal and each round had very distinctive differences in taste- not sure if it was different bartenders making each round, or different liquors used, but there was a recognizable difference in flavor profiles for each round. All-in-all my wife and I had a fantastic evening dinner with friends and I imagine we will be back to enjoy some of the other interesting dishes on the menu.
Upon walking in the hostess was on her phone but she did greet us right away. We told her we had a reservation and she checked us in. The restaurant itself is definitely a gentrification. It's one of the original homes in Cibolo turned into a quaint restaurant. The atmosphere was definitely a little louder than you would think for the "upscale" they are attempting to be. The price of the food was definitely on level of a steakhouse like JPrime or Flemings. To start we ordered the fresh baked mozzarella which was ok. It tasted like HEB pasta sauce with added crushed tomatoes and pearl mozzarella which were all clumped so it made scooping with the garlic toast difficult. The garlic ciabatta bread was on point though. I ordered a blueberry mule which surprised us because they don't use muddled blueberries but a blueberry flavored vodka so don't be surprised when it comes out not blue or pinkish but it looks like a margarita. It's good...so don't be fooled. While we waited for the main course we got a little cold. Unfortunately we were actively going thru a "northern spring" event so the awesomeness of the ac with the cold outside was not doing ok for us. The windows aren't double panes and you can feel the draft thru the walls and window so it was quite nippy in our area. The table next to us got seated twice and both times they moved the people because of the draft. For the main course I got the lemon basil shrimp risotto which was good. It came out with a sauce on the side but it didn't need it. It was full of flavor without it and surprisingly there was shrimp within the risotto and not just the three sitting on top. My husband got the chicken Florentine which he wasn't a fan of. He said the chicken was seasoned well but the pasta didn't hold the sauce and he said it didn't taste like they salted the water for it. He did not take his food to go that he couldn't finish but I did. Lastly, for dessert we got the bread pudding. It was the star and decadent. Overall minus the annoying fly that was flying around it was an ok place. Definitely a go to for dessert.
A Must-Visit Local Gem! If you're in the Cibolo area and looking for a top-notch dining experience, Kindling Texas Kitchen is an absolute must. My husband and I wanted to support a local spot instead of a chain, and we were beyond impressed. Be sure to make reservations--this cozy and charming restaurant is clearly a favorite among locals, and for good reason! From the moment we walked in, we were greeted warmly and seated right away. We started with the Rockefeller Oysters, served with garlic bread, and they were incredible--rich, flavorful, and the perfect kickoff to our meal. For our entrees, my husband had the Mixed Seafood Linguine paired with a refreshing Blueberry Mule, and I chose the Shrimp and Scallops with mashed potatoes and grilled mixed veggies. We also shared a side of cornbread with honey butter--a sweet and savory treat we couldn't resist. Let me just say, they do not hold back on quality or quantity. The shrimp were massive, the scallops were buttery soft, and everything was cooked and seasoned to perfection. The portions were so generous, we had plenty left over to enjoy the next day. We finished off with desserts to-go: the Salted Caramel Chocolate Cake and Bread Pudding. Both were rich, indulgent, and the perfect sweet ending to a fantastic meal. Shoutout to our server, Haley, who was attentive, friendly, and made our evening even more enjoyable. This is definitely going to be one of our new go-to spots. If you're looking for delicious food, warm service, and a great local atmosphere--Kindling Texas Kitchen delivers.
Reviews are largely positive. Many highlight the fresh, flavorful food, friendly, attentive staff, and cozy, charming ambiance. Drinks and desserts are also well-liked.

7/26/24 Party of 4 845pm reservation We met my bil & sil here for dinner after arriving from Las Vegas. The decor is very homey, they have beautiful wooden tables and chairs. We started with drinks: Lemon drop: 10/10 made perfectly with Tito's vodka. Margarita: 10/10 my SIL loved it. Paloma: 8/10 made with grapefruit. Bitter and somewhat flavorless but refreshing if that makes sense Ribeye: 100/10 cooked medium, juicy, served with veggies and potatoes. King salmon with a crab cake: 10/10 crab cake was a bit salty but the salmon helped even out the flavors. Highly recommend this restaurant. read more

We just walked in without a reservation on a Wednesday night. Waited about 5 minutes before being seated. Looked pretty busy inside. Service was great. Items came out fairly quickly. Drinks: -TX old fashioned. Kind of has the fireball aftertaste. 3/5 -Barrel aged old fashioned. It was smooth. Good flavor. Not too much bite. Very small pour though. 4/5 -A very Cherry limeade. Seemed like a good summer drink. Not sweet. A bit tart. Mainly ice though. 3/5 Food: -16 oz Boneless Certified Angus Beef Ribeye (G). Nicely seasoned and perfectly cooked medium rare. Super large. 4.5/5 -5oz. Lobster Tail. Tasty with the butter but not worth the price tag. 4/5 -Balsamic Braised Short Ribs (G). Didn't taste the balsamic much. Lacking in flavor and salt. Very tender though but over cooked. 3/5 -Cornbread. On the sweet side. Came out very hot, but almost tasted like eating pancakes with syrup. Butter was really sweet, but it makes sense since it was honey butter 3/5 -Wild boar meatloaf. Surprisingly delicious. 4.25/5 -Fries. Came with an ample amount of ketchup. Very very hot. Not crispy, but you could tell those were fresh potatoes. 3.5/5 -Green beans with the dishes were pretty raw and not cooked much. 3/5 -Potatoes and mashed potatoes were not seasoned at all. Went with meatloaf sauce because that was a bit salty. 3/5 Overall, I liked dinner. I would recommend and might eat here again in the future. read more

Had braised pork --- awesome. Chocolate cake for dessert. Ice cubes in old fashioned were a little cloudy - otherwise a great meal! read more
Excellent service and ambiance on a busy Saturday night. The double cut pork chop with balsamic glaze was delicious, cooked a perfect medium rare and so tender. The fingerling potatoes and green beans were also excellent. The braised beef and risotto was very tasty, fork tender with a rich and decadent risotto, amazing. The cocktails were excellent, TX old fashion and dirty martini. Would've stayed for dessert but country dancing was calling. read more

Phenomenal place in a gorgeous historic venue with all the modern necessities for a scratch kitchen. Perfect cocktails, sizeable portions, and incredible gourmet quality dishes. We had the sourdough appetizer (with umami butter and house made pastrami) which was unexpectedly awesome, braised beef risotto, lobster risotto and short ribs. All amazing. Friendly staff and full view of the kitchen just added to the ambiance read more

So here is the skinny... Tuesday Night. I needed a place to have dinner and some cocktails. I found this place on Yelp. After reading the reviews, I thought I would I would try it. It was a good call. The location is definitely out of the way and nestled on Main Street in Cibolo. The place is a converted 1950s (maybe older) house. That was cool. There is parking on each side and it looks like it could get filled on the weekend. I went in and was asked if I had reservations. I said no because it was Tuesday night. It was busy but not at capacity or very loud. I was seated in the left side room in the front corner by the window at a table for 2. There are no menus ( at least none presented). You need to scan a QR code at the table to get the menu. They do have a full bar, so I ordered the Barrel Aged Old Fashioned because another "Yelper" recommended it. It did not disappoint. I did not order an appetizer initially because my +1 was going to arrive an hour later and she just wanted drinks. I went ahead and ordered the Caesar Salad and added shrimp. The seasoned shrimp came on a skewer and were perfectly prepared and complimented the salad. As the evening progressed, the place did get busier. I would recommend reservations and will do so next time I come. It was definitely not a weekend crowd but busy for a Tuesday night. I finished my salad and ordered another old fashioned. After some time I ordered the Entree. I spoke to the waitress, and after some discussion, decided on the "Texas Whiskey Braised Pork Osso Bucco". The place was definitely getting full and it was around 7:15 PM. The noise level was higher but you could still carry on a conversation. My entree arrived within a reasonable amount of time - about 20 minutes. I expect that for a fresh cooked meal. Don't be in a rush when you come here. Expect to have a meal and enjoy your company. The pork dish rocked. Amazing presentation and taste. The pork slid off the bone. The potatoes were delish. I even had leftovers to take home. See the pictures. All the desserts looked good and I had to try the Salted Caramel chocolate cake. It was good. The waitress was brilliant when I told her I was pretty full. She suggested packing it in a "to-go" container so I could taste it and then take the rest home. Good service! I have a feeling it is best with coffee. Overall, the staff was friendly and the food was served hot and at reasonable times. My plus one arrived and we had more drinks. All-in-all a good experience! I will be back for sure but I will make reservations ahead of time. read more

I'm so happy to see Cibolo upcoming on the food scenery and have a nice trendy spot. I used to live in this area and this is just what it needed. Be warned before you come here though, parking is tough. Their parking area is small but they have a lot across the street. We made prior reservations on a Friday night and still had to wait about 15 minutes, so I'd recommend you make one. All the service was excellent, no complaints. The cocktails were top notch, as well. They have quite the selection. We had pretzel bites and beer cheese for an appetizer, yummy! For dinner, hubby had loaded bacon cheeseburger and I had braised beef, picture attached. The burger was a bit messy but delicious! My plate was superb! Hit all the right spots. The only con for me was the fact that their bathrooms didn't have a baby changer table. We had to walk to our car to change the baby, which was a bit inconvenient. Overall though, it's a must try place; especially if you're in the area. Enjoy! read more
Atmosphere and Food was very good! Wish the staff and bartender had a bit more upbeat personality, they seemed like they weren't very happy to be there or just mediocre conversationalists. We had reservations for a large party and were sat quickly..drinks- wine/old fashions and the food were delicious. Overall, Highly recommend for you to come here for a date night or small gathering. read more

Went to dinner to catch up with a friend last night. Found this restaurant online and it absolutely blew us away. Cute little spot in downtown Cibolo. Making reservations online was very easy. We were seated quickly. Our waitress was very knowledgeable about the items. I asked for feedback on the pank drank before ordering and she asked if I liked sweet drinks. I do enjoy a sweet taste, but not overly sweet, but that I do like the watermelon flavor. So she recommended that I do half lemonade and half Topo Chico instead to cut down on the sweetness. It came out absolutely perfect!! We ordered the pork belly Mac n cheese appetizer. As soon as I put the food in my mouth, I must have stopped right in my tracks or made a face as my friend immediately stopped talking and asked what was wrong. Absolutely nothing, it was divine. I was shocked by how good it tasted. So much incredible flavor, I just wasn't prepared for it. I ordered the balsamic braised short ribs. It was so tender, so juicy, just wonderful. It came with mashed potatoes, and some seasonal veggies. Even the broccolini deserves to be mentioned here. Hands down, one of the best meals (and drinks) I've had in a very long time. I don't remember our waitresses name, but she had the cutest pink hair and was absolutely a delight. She was very attentive without being too much. I don't know if this review is even doing the restaurant justice, but we will 100% be back, and with friends. Already looking forward to it. read more

Came in without a reservation and they still took us in. The waitress we had was A+ and knew everything about the menu. We ordered the Mac &Cheese for appetizer and it was a big plate. We then had the chicken florentine and the braised short ribs for an entree. Everything was absolutely delicious. I totally recommend! read more

This was the second time I had been here and it didn't disappoint. The appetizer was fantastic - we had the bacon wrapped scallops. All of my party enjoyed their meals. I had the chicken piccata and it was excellent. Others had chicken parm, pork chops, etc. For dessert we had a very moist and rich chocolate cake. Our server was very nice and knowledgeable and kept our drinks coming and full. It's a small place and is in a house that's over 100 years old so it has lots of character. Great place for a date or a small group party. read more
