We have been waiting to try Old City Hall and it was worth the wait. I went to make reservations on Tuesday and the weekend was already pretty full. Just be advised to plan early for optimal dinner hours. The tuna tartare was delicious and such a generous portion, you could have it as an entree. The spicy rigatoni was smooth and the sausage was excellent. We also had the short ribs, which were very good. We will be back to visit the bar because it was beautiful. The servers were very attentive and friendly. Already looking forward to returning to the Old City Hall.

We decided to try this place for our 30th anniversary dinner. We had the pigs in a blanket for appetizers and the filet and salmon for our meals. They were okay, but not amazing. We have had much better elsewhere. On the positive side, our drinks were very good, the service was outstanding and the ambiance was impressive. It's one of the few times we have been in New Braunfels for our anniversary dinner. This rating would be closer to 4 stars if able to do so. We will definitely go back to try some of the other entrees and get some drinks.

The steak frite has a great Smokey taste that isn't overpowering and it's very nice. The manhattan was good! Our waitress was very kind and we celebrated a birthday! Inside is beautiful!

Tip #1: make a reservation This place was slammed! Fortunately, we snagged a table near the bar. Our waitress was excellent. We had dinner here on our anniversary wrekend and it was better than we expected. The short rib fell apart with a fork. It looks super dark because of the sauce they use, but don't be fooled, it was cooked perfectly. The slaw was fresh and it was soggy; it was crispy as it should be. The mustard dipping sauce was nice. My wife's steak was cooked medium rare and was very good. The soft serve ice cream is definitely unique and worth a try!

Tried this place for the 1st time and it did NOT disappoint! The ambiance was rich, dark wood , dark green leather booths, and beautiful artwork on the walls. It was definitely not a quiet restaurant, but not crazy loud. Our server Zoe was wonderful! So knowledgable, always a smile and very attentive. The food and drinks were amazing. My husband was thrilled to drink the "hard to find" draft- Chimay beer, and I had their own twist on a Cosmo! We split the Focaccia bread w whipped ricotta & honey. Then foe our mains, I ordered the Peppercorn Filet which was delicious, husband had the Ribeye-a generous portion- which a portion went home with us. We split the Pistachio Pesto Pasta- and wow! A unique & delicious twist on pesto. Definitely a thumbs up!! Overall, a wonderful evening from beginning to end. Pricey? Yes! But well worth it for a special occasion!

Service amazing, parking easy, food was sooo good only thing that we ordered that did not wow us was the bolognese. It needed something to break up the sauce but everything that we ordered wowed us. The dessert was good but it needed flavor. Thank you for the awesome experience can't wait to come back

My wife tried to make Mother's Day reservations here a month in advance, but couldn't get us in. We opted to go on the Saturday before instead. There were five of us including my infant grandson. We were led to a very nice table in a very nice room to the left of the entry. This was our first time here, so we were a little generous with our order. For apps, we had pigs in a blanket, pork belly, and focaccia. All of them were very good. We were hoping the baby would enjoy the pigs in a blanket for his meal. He didn't like them. I thought they were good, but the shining star (actually of the whole meal) was the pork belly. Everyone liked it, even my unusually picky wife. My son and his wife had burgers, which they really enjoyed. My wife had the steak frites. She loved the steak, but is not a fan of ridiculously skinny fries. I had short ribs. They were amazing. I really liked the way the smokiness was so well done. For a side, I had scalloped potatoes. For me, that was the only failure of the day. They looked delicious, but the potatoes were still a little too firm for my tastes, and the flavor was lacking. In their defence, the scalloped potatoes my mom made probably ruined me for any others. For dessert, we all split the chocolate cake and tira misu. I thought they were really good, but my wife didn't think the actual cake was a little dry. My taste was not. Besides, the icing was so so good, it really didn't matter to me. The cocktails here are wonderful. I wasn't driving, so I actually had three of them. They were the Beretta, the Yuzu Whiskey Sour, and another one that was a coffee flavored dessert cocktail. The dessert one was the best of the bunch. The service here is very good. They had a team of servers assisting our main server. They kept coming and swopping out our wet cocktails napkins. Mine weren't even wet. They also kept bringing my wife another glass of tea. She was a little miffed when they took her half full perfectly sweetened glass every time. This is definitely a place we would go to for special event dinners. It is a bit pricey for every day.

Stopped in to sample their happy hour offerings. We shared the pigs in blankets for a bite - they come with 2 dipping sauces. We also enjoyed a side of broccolini. The man had a classic and Mexican martini. I enjoyed a lemon drop and espresso. All were delicious. We will be back to have a meal soon.

We enjoyed Old City Hall's food. The portions were decent, although not enough to share between two diners. I had a beer on tap, and it was cold, and satisfying. Service was exceptional. Prices seemed high, $75. With tip...no appetizers, and a shared entree.

Visited Old City Hall, during a busy Saturday afternoon, for a birthday celebration. Parking was a real challenge, as the main street and surrounding roads were closed for a downtown concert and farmers market. Turning a former City Hall building into a restaurant is a nice way to keep the downtown charm of years past while adding a cool place to enjoy. Overall, it has a great vibe and atmosphere for a special occasion, or a date night with your plus 2. We started with two nice choices for appetizers, the pork belly and the focaccia. My favorite part was dipping the focaccia & bread into the pork belly sauce and then chasing it with the pork. The chicken schnitzel as a main entree was good enough to enjoy when accompanied by the mustard sauce otherwise, it was a little plain. Service was friendly, on point, and did not skip a single opportunity to fill our drinks. No celebration is complete without dessert and the Carmel pretzel sundae was not only creamy and delicious, but undoubtedly the hero of the day. It reminded me of my childhood, chasing down the ice cream truck to buy a chocolate dipped bar, sprinkled with nuts and served on a popsicle stick.

Wow, I was blown away!! Came in on a Friday night and was lucky to get it. Had a short wait, but was able to order drinks at the bar while we waited for our table. The place is super fun and sexy. I particularly enjoyed the photos of all the "mayors" portrayed in films throughout the years. The food was amazing, with massive portions. I absolutely will come back. We had the bread service, which I highly recommend. The peppered stake and pasta was also delicious.

What an amazing find in New Braunfels. The classy look, feel, service of a 5 star restaurant with the warmth and home town friendliness of a stand alone establishment. I enjoyed every minute of my date night here a week ago, so much that I came back tonight and got a drink and some ice cream to go. The only thing I didn't like was the sauce on my steak frites and I would of liked maybe a house made hollandaise sauce to go with the fries instead of plain mayo and catchup but other than that, this place is really good. You have to check them out!!!!

You go way to the back and down a steep flight of stairs. My son, his wife, and I left my wife and grandbaby in the saloon and headed down. When you get down there, you are suddenly in a beautiful Tiki bar with so many amazing things to gawk at. It sort of felt like waking up in OZ. We were the first people there, so we got to sit at the bar and watch our drinks being made. They have about 15 or so different specialty tiki drinks. Each one comes in a particular piece of glassware. I don't know how the bartender keeps them straight. He was constantly pouring different things into a shaker. Then he would shake it and pour it into the glass that was already filled with crushed ice. One of the drinks even had a smoking cinnamon stick. My drink was really good. It was the Three Dots and a Dash. It came in a barrel and was decorated with a skull toothpick that had three cherries and a piece of pineapple to represent the dots and dash. It was super strong! I was ready to risk it all and go for another drink, but it had gotten packed inside the bar. We could tell the bartender was stressing. They really need two for times like that. My wife spends the night at my son's house in New Braunfels every Thursday to give them a date night. Evidently, this is where they always go. I can certainly see why!

This is not a place to have a quick drink, as the bartenders really craft the art of the cocktail you order (expect 15-20 min for 2 drinks). I would love to come back and try more!

WILDSIDE -- NEW BRAUNFELS, TX…read more This one was completely on a whim! We were heading up from San Antonio to catch Joshua Nieto and Bryan Torresdey's comedy show at Vicky's Hinterhof, and we got into New Braunfels early enough to do a little pregaming. We really don't have a go-to spot in NB, and running over to Gruene was going to cut into valuable pregame time. The mission was simple: find a cool spot, grab a couple of good cocktails, and get ourselves properly warmed up for the night. Well...we found it. Wildside might be the poshest dive bar I've been to in Texas. And I mean that as a HUGE compliment. It has that laid-back, divey lounge feel without feeling like somebody forgot to care about the place. Good music, cool atmosphere, friendly people behind the bar and cocktails that aren't going to beat the hell out of your wallet. The bartenders were fantastic and made the whole pregame experience a blast. They know they're not sitting on some massive, high-end inventory of obscure spirits like a dedicated craft cocktail bar and you know what? They don't pretend to be. What they DO have is confidence behind the bar. Give them what they've got, tell them what you like, and they'll put together a damn good cocktail. I appreciate that. There's something to be said about a bartender who knows their bottles, knows their limitations, and still says, "Yeah, I can make you something good." That's my kind of divey lounge bar. And apparently Wednesdays are comedy nights, too. Who knows...you might even catch Fluffy dropping in for a cameo! We were having such a good time with the music, cocktails and overall vibe that after the comedy show at Vicky's, there really wasn't much discussion about where we were going next. BACK TO WILDSIDE. And that probably tells you everything you need to know. We went there to pregame...and liked the place so damn much we came back and closed the bar down. So next time you're swinging sticks in New Braunfels and want a place that's unpretentious, affordable, lively and knows how to pour you a proper drink, give Wildside a shot. Sometimes the best bars aren't the ones you plan on finding. Sometimes you just end up on the Wildside. Texas Mozzer

Our mixologist, Logan (absolutely wonderful human being) not only made us the most delicious pecan praline whiskey cocktail but he also gave use some incredible history on the space & of course the ghosts! The limestone walls are original. Much of the decor adorning the walls was found in the building. Some of the wall hangings include an original bond and doctor prescriptions for whiskey. The furnishings and accessories complement the rooms to enhance the feeling of old-west prohibition. The velvet pieces exemplify burlesque. Total "hitch your horse to a post, mosey on down for a secret drink and a good time" vibes. Logan spun a tale of ghosts appearing in selfies taken by previous guests. The story was sensational and I was all about it. A wonky thing happened with the POS system while we were there that required a reboot. I joked that the ghosts thought I was taking too many pictures. Dark, moody, sexy, and relaxing...everything you want in a speakeasy---& good drinks too, of course. Absolute works of liquid art!
