I have been to Saludos a few times and they have absolutely killed each visit. The margaritas are refreshing and not sweet. Cooper was our waiter and he was very knowledgeable about the menu, answering any questions we had and even offered a few of his favorites. Love an experience that offers traditional Mexican cuisine and the decor is to die for! Have not found an item on the menu we haven't enjoyed and wouldn't order again!! Steak agua chile, shrimp tacos, enchiladas, ceviche, and cochinita pixel flats have all been wonderful. Do not leave with trying the sopapilla beignets!!! What a great new restaurant in downtown New Braunfels! I only have two points of criticism and one warning We sat out on the porch which was perfect for the weather the night we went. We had excellent service. I normally order an old-fashioned, but I just didn't feel like ordering one in a Mexican restaurant. Instead, I got a Dos Equis beer. It didn't taste that great to me so I asked my husband to taste it. He said it was sort of skunky and that's exactly what I thought. He said maybe it's because it wasn't quite cold enough. No big deal. My husband did get an old-fashioned and I tasted it and it was right up there with the best. We ordered the Steak Agua Chile for an appetizer. It was a beautiful plate that had Ribeye, red onion, avocado, cucumber, lime & chili pepper water marinade. it was beyond amazing and you definitely need to order it. The cucumbers on it were so good. So crisp. For me to say that about a cucumber means it was unbelievable. The ribeye was so tender and delicious. And the marinade added another layer of complex flavors. Three of us ordered the beef fajitas, and we all loved them. The meat was tender and juicy, and there was such an ample amount of meat as well. The rice is some of the best rice I have ever had and I think that's a hard thing because, basically, rice is rice But not here. It was above par. The beans were amazing and they cannot compare to any other beans. I like that they were al dente if you can understand that. I loved them. However, I did not like their tortillas. They were on the thinner side where they get hard fast. I prefer soft, somewhat fluffy tortillas that don't get hard. But with everything else being so good, it didn't matter to me about the tortillas. There were two in our party celebrating a birthday so they brought out a dessert to each of them. I thought it was sopapillas but my husband said they were beignets. They were the size of a toaster strudel with some vanilla ice cream and sprinkles on top. Again, a very basic ingredient, but the vanilla ice cream was soooo good. The beignet was amazing. You have to order it. Take my word. I did go and look at the menu and this is how they describe it.: Beignet Sopapillas Fried soft pillows of dough, tossed in cinnamon & sugar, dulce de leche $12. So I guess we both were right. I can't wait to go there again because I want to cry more. However, our meal was so darn good. I'm not sure I wanted to try anything else. Oh! The warning! The beef fajitas are served with Shishito peppers. I asked the server who brought our food out if the peppers were hot. He said maybe one in 10 will be hot. That was a really interesting answer. We have experienced peppers like that in our past. The first two shishito peppers I tasted we're not hot and we're really good. Then I had a hot one! My lips and my tongue were hot for about 10 minutes. If you can take the heat, you will love it. If you can't take the heat, but you want to gamble, go ahead and try them. read more

Waited awhile to come here because of any kinks that would need fixing. We sat in the bar area and service was great especially for New Braunfels! Waiter was awesome and told us what to get! Ambiance is unique and fun and I love what they did with the building! Not thrilled that there's no queso and the chips are basically Krauses potato chips with Valentino hot sauce. We got the wings and the Rajas con crema. Wings were pretty good with lots of seasoning but the Rajas was tiny and underwhelming to say the least. As a table we got the ribeye tacos, fish tacos, and the Vampiro De Bistec tacos. Fish tacos were not good, the ribeye tacos were alright but I did enjoy the Vampiro tacos...but the menu in my opinion needs more spicy options. Very small portions for the prices. I think it's just another case of very high expectations were in place before opening. I definetely think over the next few months that the menu will be updated/changed but for now it's a great place to get drinks and maybe some appetizers and sit on the patio! Came during Saengerfest. It was a gorgeous day. Not a fan of restaurants with playgrounds but lucky for us, we did not sit near that area. Drinks were great: Paloma and margaritas were tasty. Service was excellent!!! Bar staff especially. Good was ok. It wasn't bad at all but wasn't amazing. Started off strong with their cochinita libil flautas which were very good. Quesabirria was meh. Consomme was missing something. Vampira tacos were good. Beef fajitas were far better than chicken. Fish tacos were fine. Nothing really stood out. Wouldn't mind coming back for drinks and apps but I'll pick somewhere else for dinner. read more

This was a great experience! What they've done with the building is amazing- it's so beautiful! While the menu is small, the food is really good and the service is great. My husband and I shared Steak Auga Chile and Cochinita Pibil Flautas. The flautas were so delicious and full of tender meat and flavor. The Steak Agua Chile had so many flavors bursting (it's served cold). It was so good, however the more I ate it, the more the flavors became overwhelming. It was weird- it went from amazing to good. We each had the margaritas- mine the handmade margarita and his the frozen classic- both with a noticeable amount of booze in them (win!). They were delicious! For entrees I had the fish ceviche which I loved- spicy with the jalapeños but just the right flavors and amount of food with appetizers just eaten. My husband had the Enchiladas Rojas with steak. The sauce was so melty and good, but the steak would've tasted better inside instead of stacked on top. The rice and beans were top-notch. For the price, I expected a larger serving. It is also served as more of a quesadilla than enchilada. For dessert we had to try the beignet sopapillas... more beignet than sopapilla, which is not bad at all! It was to DIE for! This is a fairly new place in NB. I honestly find it kind of offensive when I try "Mexican" advertised restaurants with the farthest representation of the Mexican culture. Not one single Hispanic person in sight and the weirdest (not so Mexican) explanation of the dishes. There were mixed reviews and most of the time I prefer to experience it for myself. My husband ordered the beef fajitas and I ordered the aguachiles. My dish was good. My husband got cold tortillas and he wasn't thrilled about it. Last but not least, when we first arrived, the hostess was totally rude. My husband casually mentioned it was our first time here and she just ignored him and told the other hostess where to seat us. What's the phrase? Don't judge a book by its cover? Yah aesthetically this place is gorgeous and very spacious, lots of outdoor seating as well as inside. First impressions speak volumes and immediately meeting the hostess I felt unwelcome. I mentioned it was my first time here and that the place looked beautiful I then received a blank stare and was ignored. Our waiter Parker was very gentlemanly and polite which was a nice turn around. So the service overall was 50/50. The food however was not my favorite not even close. They said they try to mimic a Mexico City style of cooking but they missed the mark, I mean I was served cold corn tortillas. I was very disappointed in the food and they were definitely over priced. A simple easy to read menu with an impressive selection of draft beers, but only one non-alcoholic beer available. The meat in the flautas was quite dry, so not very good. The steak appetizer was served cold--an item that I have never seen before in a Mexican restaurant in the US or in Mexico, but it was pretty good if you can handle the picante level. The service was quite good. They've taken an old office building and made it an attractive restaurant venue, but they need to invest in some shades on the west side due to the glare. We arrived on valentine's day shortly after their opening. None of it was planned. We weren't sure we could get out of the house, but here we were driving downtown, and it seriously was a siren, a beaconing light as we drove by. We were like what is that?! We had planned to go elsewhere, but changed our mind spur of the moment. Maybe since they just opened, there was no wait. That said, they were pleasantly busy. It was beautiful inside. Classy retro rich vibe with interesting accents. Our waitress was superb, the best. The food was gorgeous, a work of art. Loved the anchiote shrimp, so flavorful. The enchilada sauce was tasty and complex. I don't always take pictures but that night I did. Although I'm not a huge Mexican fan, and reluctantly agreed to go there, it pleasantly surprised. Only comment is we weren't crazy about the complementary appetizer, low on my scoring since I rarely eat appetizers. One thing to note is this is high end interior Mexican. read more

We tried this new upscale Mexican restaurant on a Monday evening. The decor was nice and comfortable. There is a nice size patio area. We ate on the first floor since a member of our party has mobility issues. There is also an upstairs (which I believe to be larger, though I didn't go upstairs). Service was good, even though it was fairly busy on a Monday evening. It's nice that they are open, since many restaurants choose to close on Mondays. I shared the steak fajitas with a friend. A portion for 2 was $65, but the meat was good quality. They only brought out 3 tortillas with it, which didn't make sense for the larger portion. However, our server quickly brought more when requested. The beans and rice portions were also small for a dinner for 2. The beans were fantastic, with an extra touch of spice that brought some delicious heat. The shrimp tacos and fish tacos were nice, and I like that they are served with roasted potatoes (papas). The margaritas were good, though I'm just as happy with a cheaper version at their "sister" restaurant. Overall, it's a good place to go with friends for a more upscale Mexican experience, but I'll stick to their sister restaurant for my "go to" weekly Mexican fix. read more

As an avid Box St. All Day enjoyer, I was super excited to try this new concept of theirs! Saludos is upscale, warm and inviting, beautifully designed, and they even have a little attached playground with a soft turf for the kiddos! Service was absolutely amazing. Mark was our server and he went above and beyond to accommodate, and not once were our drinks empty. It felt like magic, he was always there right before someone took the last sip of their drink to top it off. The food was all impressively house-made, delicious, and our dishes came out in less than 15 minutes (party of 6). Saludos definitely lived up to the hype. We loved the whole vibe of the place. They have two floors with patios and even a play area for your kids. The staff was so friendly and welcoming, especially our server Mark! He was obviously an expert on the menu recommending appetizers and meals that we all ended up loving. We will not be back! Food was not good. Their dessert was undercooked. When we brought this up to our waiter, he acknowledged that they were undercooked and that the manager had talked to the cook. The waiter did not offer to give us a COOKED version, nor did they take it off our bill. Very poor customer service in my opinion. I will pay top dollar for good service. Which we did not get so nope, won't be back plus food was cold and not tasty at all. If I could give less than one star I would. Epic fail. read more

Rough experience here. Was excited to try this place. Our reservation was for the patio. Upon arrival we were told our reservation was for the dining room, we expressed our reservation was for the patio but they insisted the patio was full and we need to be sat in the dining room. Almost showed our reservation and argued but figured it wasn't worth it. Then we waited quite a while for service. They bring these weird kettle chips and hot sauce for your free appetizer... which I don't really understand the point of. Just be normal and give us chips and salsa, instead of forcing the customer to pay for it. We did order the trio appetizer, everything was good. Margaritas tastes good but were quite small for the price. The default side with entrees is roasted potatoes, once again, doesn't make sense. Once again you're forced to up charge to get rice and beans. I don't know if they are trying to be quirky and different or this is authentic Mexican food but we were not fans. Fish tacos were scarily fishy, honestly was worried about food poisoning. Bistec tacos were good but also had a little bit of a scary funky taste. Luckily nobody got sick. Overall hostess wasn't rude but didn't get our reservation right, server was nice but slow to start. Food was alright, but the main things that should be good were not. Drinks are good but expensive for their size. Honestly don't think we will be returning, would much rather just go to Chuy's or a more competent Mexican restaurant. read more

New restaurant in New Braunfels that I have been looking forward to trying. Since the weather has been nice we booked a reservation on the patio for 5:30pm and was excited to enjoy the nice spring day, showed up on time and checked in and was walked upstairs to their main dining room...I informed the host that we had booked on the patio and she said sorry, it's full. This was a little frustrating as walking up I noted multiple open tables outside, plus we had reserved a spot there...but oh well. We took our seats and it took a noticeably long period of time to be greeted. Once our server arrived, service was great, she did a very good job of prebussing throughout the experience. Started with two house margaritas, sangria and mango flavored, both very good. They have complimentary potato chips and what tastes like valentina hot sauce in a bottle, this was fine but kind of odd and would have preferred your standard complimentary chips and salsa. We ordered the appetizer that comes with guac, beans, salsa, and tortilla chips. This was good but I can't help but feel this is a cash grab since they could have just included salsa and chips from the get go. We ordered the Vampire Bistec tacos and the fish tacos for entrees, both we subbed the potatoes for rice and beans. Both were good, the fish tacos leaned more on the fishy side, which was covered up by the strong chipotle sauce. I think a higher quality fish would solve this problem. The bistec was yummy and seasoned well, but had an unsettling smell. The wall we were sat next to had food stuck to it and some of the plates had large chips in them. Overall the experience was good, I would come here for a good drink and maybe the atmosphere if I could get a table outside. Seems like it will go over well in New Braunfels. This place could use a little tweaking but not a bad starting point! read more
