Such a peculiar restaurant that I got to visit this morning! Krause's Cafe is a lovely restaurant and beer garden located in New Braunfels. The area is quite spacious - with 3 main areas for dining, and its own parking lot which is fantastic. Even though I was tempted for a good time going in the evening --- or even the weekend --- I had a bunch of errands today and chose rather to go for breakfast when the amount of people is few and the environment is just overall more relaxed. I'm glad I did. For my meal I ordered just one thing the Bauern Schnitzel. This dish is described as a "breakfast specialty featuring a hand-breaded pork schnitzel topped with two eggs and hollandaise sauce. This German-Texan fusion dish is served daily during morning hours and comes with a biscuit alongside your choice of home fries, hash browns, grits, or black beans." Within minutes of my order being placed, my food came out in about 5 minutes -- not too shabby! As you can see from the photo, it looked very appealing. How was the taste? Simply filling and comforting. It was rich, stick to your bones grub that you want every so often. Hash browns were crisp, and the schnitzel was fried perfectly and topped with my over easy eggs. Everything simply worked in unison for a flavorful combination. The biscuit was also something to mention. It was homemade, fluffy, and not dry whatsoever! Last night we decided on a whim to eat out and picked Krause's from my bucket list. When we arrived, they were hosting a ticketed event and the outdoor area was very busy, with the parking lot full. Fortunately, we were still able to get a table in the café without any issue. I'm giving 4 stars mainly due to the service. Our server seemed quite disinterested, and when we asked about the drink menu, it wasn't clear whether he was unfamiliar with it or simply not inclined to go through it with us. Either way, the experience in that area wasn't great. We ordered the Rueben fries, and Texas schnitzel and both were amazing, the food came out fresh and hot and we had zero complaints. The gravy with the schnitzel was so flavorful and the green beans were cooked to perfection. For dessert we ordered the hummingbird cake and wasnt let down by our choice. With better service this would have been a 5 star review for sure. read more

I've been coming here long long before this place long before it was purchased and renovated in 2000. My parents would bring us to new braunfels as kids and would always come here for breakfast. Fast forward a few decades and now when I come back into town I always stop here for a beer and a bite to eat. It never disappoints. This time we came for lunch and I had the German meatball with sparzel. My hubby had the Rueben and friend opted for the jager schnitzel and the other vegetarian so she had the soup, Mac n cheese and the kale with leeks. I could have been a vegetarian that day because her meal was simple and delicious. I loved my big meaty German meatball and should have ordered more gravy because it was soooo good. I am so happy we randomly came in one weekend. The outside Biergarten setting with live music was great. Plenty of elbow room and a breeze. The staff was warm, welcoming and helpful. We ate in the indoor part of the restaurant and it was great. The food was great! Everyone got to try a little bit of everything. The bathrooms are also on the approved list. This was our first time eating here and it definitely was an awesome spot for some awesome German food. We we sat outside in the big communal seating. They had a live band playing. Our server was amazing and made us feel welcomed. I ordered the rubin sandwiches with fries and my husband got the bratentaschen. We also got the loaded Kartoffel poppers. It was sweet and bitter, smooth and very good. This is our second time here and we absolutely love coming here. We've always opted to eat in the cafe. The service is on point. Food comes out decently quick and has been delicious both times! Walking through the beer hall is always really loud, we've enjoyed sitting outside and listening to the live music out back. A lot of people have complained that the benches aren't safe for kids. And hey they're not anchored down, but kids shouldn't be running around, and playing on the benches which would result in the benches falling over. If you want seats eat in the cafe and enjoy a nice meal inside with seats. 10/10 recommend for everyone! read more

Well, we've been here several times before tonight we came out to see the comedic yodeling team. The music was very entertaining, the food was quite good The wife went for the traditional Weiner Schnitzel, I went for the local translation, the chicken fried steak. I think I won. While both breaded, tenderized and fried cuts of meat were good, I thought the Chicken fried steak was perhaps more tender and of course more generous portion.. The sides are quite good. The service was prompt and efficient. It's a huge place. It's just outdoors so come dress for warm weather if it's appropriate. Definitely worth trying again! read more

Really good food, atmosphere and service! We drove an hour to come back here and eat. We started off with a couple of house salads with ranch dressing, margaritas and iced tea. The salads were pretty good, pretty much what you'd expect a house salad to be. The margarita was really good, you could actually tell that there was tequila in it. The iced tea was crisp and refreshing. Now this is where it really gets good...the reason I drove over a hour to to come back to eat here. For the main course, I ordered the chicken fried steak with jalapeño gravy with a side of mashed potatoes and french fries and a side of extra jalapeño gravy. This one of the, if not the best chicken fried steak I've ever had. It was tender, I could cut it with a fork. No need for a knife, it wasn't tough or chewy, just tender. The breading stayed on each bite. The jalapeño gravy is so delicious. It compliments the chicken fried steak perfectly. It was creamy with a little bite. This is why I drove over an hour to back here to eat again. And I'll do it again in the future. My wife ordered the Monday special (chicken pot pie). She said it was really good too. The crust was buttery, crispy and flaky. The fixens inside the pot pie was good and flavorful with pieces of chicken and vegetables in a creamy sauce. She gives it a thumbs up. The service was pretty good. Nothing bad or outstanding so to speak. It was average. The restaurant/cafe has a neat laidback vibe. There's actually 3 different eating areas. We just moved to New braunfel, TX from California. We needed real food as we've been driving and eating fast food. The food is so good and amazing, the chicken is bursting with herbs and flavors and just melts in your mouth. The Brocolli with the chicken is soooo flavorful oh my gosh and the mash potatoes are so so good. The porkchop blew us away as well, that honey sriracha sauce on it is not spicy not all but gives it a a complenting flavor. And that mac and cheese is so good! And the service, Vivian was our server and she has a great personality and her service is top notch and the manager Allison even came up to greet us and checked on us and even as we were leaving she was chatting with us. We love Krause's! They have good breakfast and lunch/dinner. Excellent beer selection and great mixed drinks. The restaurant is typically busy but they have enough servers to still get you taken care of in a timely manner. They also have live music outside sometimes! Another plus is there's a farmers market right next door outside, I think it's every Saturday morning or every other Saturday maybe. Lots of vendors!! Krause's is a mandatory stop for my wife and me whenever we visit New Braunfels. Most recently, we came down for the opening weekend of Wurstfest 2025. My wife ordered her usual Sausage Plate but I ventured away from my much beloved Texas Schnitzel to try their Chicken Stroganoff. Suffice to say, I was _not_ disappointed. My stroganoff may not have been as heavy as a traditional beef stroganoff, but it did not lack in the flavor department. The chicken was tender and that gravy really brought some rich flavor. My wife's German Chocolate cake was on point. Krause's also offered a tiramisu that day (I know, right? Italian dessert at a German food place.) I couldn't help but order one because, well, tiramisu. While I prefer a tiramisu with more of a coffee kick, the delicate lady fingers and feather light marscarpone were both heavenly. It wasn't until this visit that we learned Krause's served breakfast too. On our way home, we swung by to check it out. I had the Krause's Breakfast, which really sticks to your ribs. My hash browns were crispy and tasty. I enjoyed the biscuit and eggs, but the standout (by far) was the house made sausage. Goodness gracious, y'all.
