Great food, great atmosphere, and great service. I ate here the other day and was thoroughly impressed with everything, but especially the service. Keegan was very attentive and thoughtful, and made the whole experience so warm and welcoming. Definitely the best server in town. The food was incredible - the sausage sampler is a great starter with a variety of good flavors, and the venison burger is one of a kind. These also might have been the best fries I've ever had. If you go, try them with the chipotle mayo or garlic aioli sauce (shoutout to Keegan again). The atmosphere is great - open but very comfortable. I loved sitting in the bierhalle. I have good memories of sauerkraut, wurst, and beer some years back. Returning now I had the brussels sprouts, which were good, and a wiener schnitzel that was disappointing. The meat was not great and the green beans very not great. Yukon potatoes were tasty though. The atmosphere of the place makes up for it. We just moved to New braunfel, TX from California. We needed real food as we've been driving and eating fast food. The food is so good and amazing, the chicken is bursting with herbs and flavors and just melts in your mouth. The Brocolli with the chicken is soooo flavorful oh my gosh and the mash potatoes are so so good. The porkchop blew us away as well, that honey sriracha sauce on it is not spicy not all but gives it a a complenting flavor. And that mac and cheese is so good! And the service, Vivian was our server and she has a great personality and her service is top notch and the manager Allison even came up to greet us and checked on us and even as we were leaving she was chatting with us. Was in San Marcos/New Braunfels area last week to escape the BS of Mini-LA aka phoenix az. What a cool town and people. Stopped in and sat at bar and Cassidy was our server/bartender. The food is served hot and fresh. I loved the crisp of my schnitzel and new flavors were introduced with the gravy sauce. It's good but different. The service was lacking, but not the kitchen!!! We have been going there for years and we made a 7 person reservation for my daughters first Mothers Day brunch. We were seated on time, the server came over to take our drink order. As he brought them out, our son in law had his 8 month old son on his lap and the coffee was put right in front of them. Unfortunately the baby swung his arm around and the coffee spilled on his legs. My daughter tried to calm him down, a server came over to check on him before they decided to rush him to the ER. They did not get eat and it basically ruined the experience for all of us. We learned our lesson but recommend that if you have a child on your lap, make sure the server doesn't put a hot drink within their reach. read more

Location was a key, it helped me to make a choice. Food was very good, service was top notch. I liked decor and especially imported German beer. I got dark and roasty Bayern Andechs Doppelbock. It was sweet and bitter, smooth and very good. My son liked his KÄSE SCHNITZEL and compared it to German one, I liked mine WIENER SCHNITZEL except the sauce, it was to sour and more vinegary rather lemony for me. This is our second time here and we absolutely love coming here. We've always opted to eat in the cafe. The service is on point. Food comes out decently quick and has been delicious both times! Walking through the beer hall is always really loud, we've enjoyed sitting outside and listening to the live music out back. A lot of people have complained that the benches aren't safe for kids. And hey they're not anchored down, but kids shouldn't be running around, and playing on the benches which would result in the benches falling over. If you want seats eat in the cafe and enjoy a nice meal inside with seats. 10/10 recommend for everyone! read more

A line of people waiting to get in but seating flowed quickly. I sat outside to see the band and shared a table with others who were already seated. Host asked others if it OK that I join their table. My regular pretzel came with melted cheese, no mustard as described in menu. Very delicious. Drinks served quickly and pretzel served within 10 minutes. Parking lot was full. Found street parking. Bonus entertainment that night with beer stein holding contest. A lot of staff. Operations is a well-oiled machine. Place was full and I was surprised because it had been raining and flooding for days before, and indoor and outdoor dining packed. No rain that night. The restaurant is typically busy but they have enough servers to still get you taken care of in a timely manner. They also have live music outside sometimes! Well, we've been here several times before tonight we came out to see the comedic yodeling team. The music was very entertaining, the food was quite good The wife went for the traditional Weiner Schnitzel, I went for the local translation, the chicken fried steak. I think I won. While both breaded, tenderized and fried cuts of meat were good, I thought the Chicken fried steak was perhaps more tender and of course more generous portion.. The sides are quite good. The service was prompt and efficient. It's a huge place. It's just outdoors so come dress for warm weather if it's appropriate. Definitely worth trying again! read more

Krause's is a staple in New Braunfels, and never fails to satisfy. Great service, wonderful bar and beer selection, really good venue in the beer garden. The food is always on point, never leave without a soft pretzel!! This review, however is more for those looking for a special occasion meal. Having visitors in from out of state, and it being my birthday weekend, I decided to splurge on the suckling pig dinner. You gave to remember to pre-order by 72 hours by phone. The order process was quick and easy. We had a party of 6-10 people, so I was advised the minimum size would be 20#, so as not to have a pig that was too skinny. The price($21.95/ lb) seemed steep, but it included family style German potato salad, Cole slaw, pickles and cheese tray, and rolls. I assure you it was worth every penny. The pig was presented as pictured. It was beautifully cooked, and the sides were delicious!! We all had a ball picking at the Lucious meat and munching on the crispy skin. We took home plenty of leftovers as well. After eating pork on the day of and the next day, I was able to freeze 5# of pork. Also made a delightful soup stock from the carcass. All around great experience, and would definitely recommend for any special occasion, just make sure you've got at least 6 mouths to feed!!! read more

Really good food, atmosphere and service! We drove an hour to come back here and eat. We started off with a couple of house salads with ranch dressing, margaritas and iced tea. The salads were pretty good, pretty much what you'd expect a house salad to be. The margarita was really good, you could actually tell that there was tequila in it. The iced tea was crisp and refreshing. Now this is where it really gets good...the reason I drove over a hour to to come back to eat here. For the main course, I ordered the chicken fried steak with jalapeño gravy with a side of mashed potatoes and french fries and a side of extra jalapeño gravy. This one of the, if not the best chicken fried steak I've ever had. It was tender, I could cut it with a fork. No need for a knife, it wasn't tough or chewy, just tender. The breading stayed on each bite. The jalapeño gravy is so delicious. It compliments the chicken fried steak perfectly. It was creamy with a little bite. This is why I drove over an hour to back here to eat again. And I'll do it again in the future. My wife ordered the Monday special (chicken pot pie). She said it was really good too. The crust was buttery, crispy and flaky. The fixens inside the pot pie was good and flavorful with pieces of chicken and vegetables in a creamy sauce. She gives it a thumbs up. The service was pretty good. Nothing bad or outstanding so to speak. It was average. The restaurant/cafe has a neat laidback vibe. There's actually 3 different eating areas. Inside the cafe or outside in a covered area or outside. It's a really cool atmosphere and a good place to enjoy great food and drink. I highly recommend you check it out. read more

Krause's is a mandatory stop for my wife and me whenever we visit New Braunfels. Most recently, we came down for the opening weekend of Wurstfest 2025. My wife ordered her usual Sausage Plate but I ventured away from my much beloved Texas Schnitzel to try their Chicken Stroganoff. Suffice to say, I was _not_ disappointed. My stroganoff may not have been as heavy as a traditional beef stroganoff, but it did not lack in the flavor department. The chicken was tender and that gravy really brought some rich flavor. My wife's German Chocolate cake was on point. Krause's also offered a tiramisu that day (I know, right? Italian dessert at a German food place.) I couldn't help but order one because, well, tiramisu. While I prefer a tiramisu with more of a coffee kick, the delicate lady fingers and feather light marscarpone were both heavenly. It wasn't until this visit that we learned Krause's served breakfast too. On our way home, we swung by to check it out. I had the Krause's Breakfast, which really sticks to your ribs. My hash browns were crispy and tasty. I enjoyed the biscuit and eggs, but the standout (by far) was the house made sausage. Goodness gracious, y'all. It had plenty of meat on it, but the bread had gotten a little soggy by the time it was served. My husband ordered the deviled eggs specifically because they had drop peppers on them, which he knows I love. I think he got some kind of special burger.
