Al Pastor Tacos
Rachel O.

Overall nothing special but not bad. It has a playground so many families and kids are outside playing around which is where we sat so not sure about the inside. Service was good and pretty attentive. Food was just average. I was disappointed in the Al Pastor, not everywhere included pineapple and the menu mentioned it so was sad when they didnt have any. The rice and beans were just plain. Cheese enchilada was okay. Birria Ramen was probably the best thing we ordered. Not pictured: Salsa at the beginning were delicious so maybe it built a higher expectation. Queso was good yet simple, however guac was just smashed avocado so not worth it.

I've been avoiding this place for awhile. I have lived in NB for 20+ years and we loved Adobe Verde before 10ish years ago, it started going downhill. They got new owners and it was okay but still not great. We heard they rebranded with a new name and owner and we finally agreed to try it. We were seated quickly. Party of 3. They had happy hour, even on a Sunday, but we ordered drinks from their regular menu. Palomas and some spicy drink. I would come back just for drinks!!! They were delicious. Food was fine. Two of us had the shrimp tacos. Super flavorful but so tiny. Birria flautas were good. I could have used more consommé. Bathrooms were clean. Server was sweet. The rice was yummy but the queso was too thick. We added ground beef but it wasn't that great. Oh, the mango pico on the shrimp tacos was great.

Quesabirria

Sooo good !! We also went on a Tuesday and our kids ate free !!! The Birria is fantastic and the service was awesome

The lunch I got was great it was there take on chicken fried steak. Was served over mashed potatoes with cheese sauce with roasted corn. It was delicious and just a little bit spicy which enhanced the flavor. The service was good brought are drinks timely and the food was prepared and brought out quickly. The place looks rustic but had indoor and outdoor seating, it's a good place to stop by if you're in Gruene.

Great Food, Great Atmosphere and DAMN GOOD DRINKS! We love this place and eat here quite often. Their street tacos are great and all of the birria items are great too. Highly recommend their frozen margaritas. Outdoor patio is great for having some cocktails and having the kiddos play on the playground. Owners walk around and speak to the customers and love to do so. Y'all have to come and try this place out!

Our mixologist, Logan (absolutely wonderful human being) not only made us the most delicious pecan praline whiskey cocktail but he also gave use some incredible history on the space & of course the ghosts! The limestone walls are original. Much of the decor adorning the walls was found in the building. Some of the wall hangings include an original bond and doctor prescriptions for whiskey. The furnishings and accessories complement the rooms to enhance the feeling of old-west prohibition. The velvet pieces exemplify burlesque. Total "hitch your horse to a post, mosey on down for a secret drink and a good time" vibes. Logan spun a tale of ghosts appearing in selfies taken by previous guests. The story was sensational and I was all about it. A wonky thing happened with the POS system while we were there that required a reboot. I joked that the ghosts thought I was taking too many pictures. Dark, moody, sexy, and relaxing...everything you want in a speakeasy---& good drinks too, of course. Absolute works of liquid art!

The drinks are the star here. Creative without being overdone, and clearly built with intention. I went for the Old Fashioned flight, which featured bourbon, rye, mezcal, and rum variations (they let me tailor it to my spirit interests) each one distinct, balanced, and actually worth slowing down to compare. It's not just a gimmick; it's a thoughtful way to showcase how versatile a single cocktail can be. Service matched the quality of the drinks as they were attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely welcoming without feeling forced. You can tell they care about what they're serving. The vibe is what really seals it. Lively but not chaotic, polished but still relaxed. It feels like a place you can settle into, whether you're starting the night or lingering for one more round. You go way to the back and down a steep flight of stairs. My son, his wife, and I left my wife and grandbaby in the saloon and headed down. When you get down there, you are suddenly in a beautiful Tiki bar with so many amazing things to gawk at. It sort of felt like waking up in OZ. We were the first people there, so we got to sit at the bar and watch our drinks being made. They have about 15 or so different specialty tiki drinks. Each one comes in a particular piece of glassware. I don't know how the bartender keeps them straight. He was constantly pouring different things into a shaker. Then he would shake it and pour it into the glass that was already filled with crushed ice. One of the drinks even had a smoking cinnamon stick. My drink was really good. It was the Three Dots and a Dash. It came in a barrel and was decorated with a skull toothpick that had three cherries and a piece of pineapple to represent the dots and dash. It was super strong! I was ready to risk it all and go for another drink, but it had gotten packed inside the bar. We could tell the bartender was stressing. They really need two for times like that. My wife spends the night at my son's house in New Braunfels every Thursday to give them a date night. Evidently, this is where they always go. I can certainly see why!

There are plenty of great places to eat in New Braunfels, but few combine great Texas comfort food,…read morea fantastic setting, and a proper margarita quite like this place. Let's start with the chicken fried steak, because it's absolutely worth talking about. Texas has no shortage of restaurants claiming to make the best, but this one belongs in the conversation. Crispy breading, tender beef, and all the comforting goodness you expect from a well-executed Texas classic. It's easily one of the better chicken fried steaks I've enjoyed, and I'd happily order it again. But honestly, the patio might be just as big a reason to visit as the food. The rustic surroundings, beautiful trees, and relaxed Hill Country atmosphere make this a wonderful place to spend an afternoon. It's one of those settings where you sit down for lunch and suddenly realize you've been there two hours because nobody feels particularly motivated to leave. And that's where the margaritas come in. Excellent margaritas. Cold, refreshing, and perfectly suited to an afternoon on the patio. I'm fairly certain a good margarita, a little Texas scenery, and absolutely nowhere else you need to be should qualify as a legitimate stress-management program. What really makes this place special is the combination. The food is good enough to bring you in, the atmosphere makes you want to stay, and the margaritas make you forget you had somewhere else to be. It's a popular destination, and for good reason. Whether you're entertaining visitors, exploring the Hill Country, or just looking for a memorable meal, this is an easy recommendation. My advice? Request the patio, order the chicken fried steak, enjoy a margarita, and don't be in a hurry. That's a pretty great way to spend an afternoon in Texas. Five well-earned stars.

WILDSIDE -- NEW BRAUNFELS, TX…read more This one was completely on a whim! We were heading up from San Antonio to catch Joshua Nieto and Bryan Torresdey's comedy show at Vicky's Hinterhof, and we got into New Braunfels early enough to do a little pregaming. We really don't have a go-to spot in NB, and running over to Gruene was going to cut into valuable pregame time. The mission was simple: find a cool spot, grab a couple of good cocktails, and get ourselves properly warmed up for the night. Well...we found it. Wildside might be the poshest dive bar I've been to in Texas. And I mean that as a HUGE compliment. It has that laid-back, divey lounge feel without feeling like somebody forgot to care about the place. Good music, cool atmosphere, friendly people behind the bar and cocktails that aren't going to beat the hell out of your wallet. The bartenders were fantastic and made the whole pregame experience a blast. They know they're not sitting on some massive, high-end inventory of obscure spirits like a dedicated craft cocktail bar and you know what? They don't pretend to be. What they DO have is confidence behind the bar. Give them what they've got, tell them what you like, and they'll put together a damn good cocktail. I appreciate that. There's something to be said about a bartender who knows their bottles, knows their limitations, and still says, "Yeah, I can make you something good." That's my kind of divey lounge bar. And apparently Wednesdays are comedy nights, too. Who knows...you might even catch Fluffy dropping in for a cameo! We were having such a good time with the music, cocktails and overall vibe that after the comedy show at Vicky's, there really wasn't much discussion about where we were going next. BACK TO WILDSIDE. And that probably tells you everything you need to know. We went there to pregame...and liked the place so damn much we came back and closed the bar down. So next time you're swinging sticks in New Braunfels and want a place that's unpretentious, affordable, lively and knows how to pour you a proper drink, give Wildside a shot. Sometimes the best bars aren't the ones you plan on finding. Sometimes you just end up on the Wildside. Texas Mozzer
