There's good and bad. The bad, was very bad. This was the worst steak that I have ever eaten in my many years of life. - before dining here, I researching the reviews. I decided that I was going to order the popular haddock. The server announced that the daily off-the-menu special was a Picanha steak. I asked her if this was the true Brazilian steak & she replied it was, impressed that we even knew what that was. I had just eaten a very tender Picanha steak at a Brazilian steakhouse weeks prior, so I decided against the haddock & went for the special. - When my steak came, I was actually impressed by the large cut. But, that was my last positive impression. When I tried to cut it, I had to struggle with my knife. I finally was able to cut a piece & it was the toughest meat I have ever tasted. I had to spit it out. I cut a piece for my wife to taste for verification & she experienced the same, having to put her piece from mouth to plate. Mind you, the steak was ordered medium-rare, with more on the rare side, so it wasn't cooked to be tough. - I immediately called over the waitress. She was understanding, and offered another steak. I said no way, and asked her to bring me anything else that could be prepared quickly, as my wife was 1/3 through her entree. She offered a burger and I agreed. What may have been a one-star review considering the terrible steak, turned into a three-star since the burger was excellent, as were the other food items. Surprisingly, the manager, if there even was one, didn't even come over to apologize. There was no sign of a manager checking on any table. This was the first time in my life that I have ever sent a steak back. I refrain from doing so because of what the kitchen could do to my food if they're insulted. The good, & it was good: - we had the coconut shrimp appetizer. The shrimp was succulent and large. It came in an order of four. - the service by Maura was excellent. She took our drink orders and delivered post-haste. My wife particularly enjoyed the JO Chenet Sparkling Rose. - the wife's entree of lobster tacos, although extremely small & unfilling, were tasteful according to her. In closing, IF I ever return here, I would never order a steak.

Stopped in here Friday night for last minute birthday dinner plans for my mother and I have the highest recommendation for this restaurant! Make sure you make reservations ;) we got lucky at the bar top! Bartenders were great! I am still admiring the dinner I had the night before and it was a great atmosphere! Will be returning

Old fashion and drinks very good.

The service here was spectacular. Our waitress was very nice and helpful. It was my first time there as we were on vacation visiting family. The waitress helped me with the menu and recommendations. Which I appreciated. The food was great. The milk bread was out of this world good. I loved the bacon wrapped poblano peppers as well. The restaurant itself was nice and enjoyable. I loved the wall murals.

We were on our Anniversary and I decided to try this place out since it had good reviews. The place is easy to find and parking is good since it's in a shopping center. We loved the ambiance since it had a nice romantic bar vibe, and the service was great! Our server helped us with the menu, and we ordered our drinks and appetizer, which was the Milk Bread and the Bacon Wrapped Poblano. For our main course we ordered the Beef Wellington and also the special, which was the Lobster Ravioli. Everything tasted great and the service was good. The business also offered military discount which was a plus.

Fantastic find! Lovely vibe, great service! That dirty Diana cocktail was one of the best I've ever had! Nice twist! The tuna tartare was unique and perfectly balanced. Scallops out of this world. Everyone in our party enjoyed every plate!

This place was a good little surprise we started we the tuna tartar, the bakery bread, panko coconut shrimp and sweet corn bisque we were all so happy the bread with the garlic butter was a huge hit and everyone love the shrimp the tartar was so refreshing. Then we had the prime ribeye and mushrooms on the side the black garlic dusted redfish and tomato risotto with chicken chicken was a disappointment it was very tough so put it aside and used the mushrooms in the risotto and it was so good and the fish and steak were good the lobster tacos don't need all the extra stuff you can't taste the lobster

We arrived early and I informed the hostess that we had a reservation. She advised that was no problem but never asked me my name. She went to seat us at a table when I let her know that I had requested a specific table and that's when she realized it (It was also the only table in the restaurant with a reserved sign) Our server (Mike/Mikey) did a good job. It was nothing spectacular but also no complaints. We ordered a Martini and a Cosmo and both drinks were solid. We moved on to wine and ordered our food. A Ribeye and the Scallops. The Ribeye was perfectly cooked as were the scallops. The candied pork belly was a lot drier than usual but still good (Usually it is great) For dessert we shared a Scotch and the chocolate cake. That was the one disappointment of the night. Cody's is our favorite restaurant, and we love the consistency in quality of the food.

We were looking for a place to eat that was different from what we could get in our home town of Houston. We found Cody's due to reviews. This place doesn't disappoint! The interior is intimate with low lighting. Each table has a real flame candle. Classy. It's the perfect place for sharing a bottle of wine and having a quiet meal. The walls are lined with murals of famous musicians. Our server was great. She provided input on their best dishes. I wish I remembered her name. 7/3/2024 at 9:05 PM. She has long hair and is very friendly. She did a great job. We started with the wedge salad. It's large enough to split. The bacon was so good. Very crisp and flavorful. I had the lobster ravioli for my meal. It was delicious! The sauces drizzled on the ravioli tasted like a butternut squash base. You may not think those items would pair well, but it was perfect. The dish looks small, but it was filling. The gentleman had the pork chop. It is a bone-in chop on a bed of mash potatoes. The portion is large. I am not a pork chop person, but I was very impressed. The bacon jam was great, potatoes were creamy, and the chop itself was very tender. I highly recommend both of these. I included a picture of the menu. We only found the lunch menu on Google. You need to do dinner here! Cody's has been open for 12 years. They will be around for a long time, I'm sure. Very, very pleased with our experience.

Pork chop was to die for !!!! Perfection!!

Incredible food, amazing service and great atmosphere!!! The dress is casual but the food is top notch! We will definitely be back!! Reservations recommended.

Carrot cheese cake. Sweet and sooo good. It's a must share though.

I ate here yesterday with a group of about 35 people. 1st time and talk about impressed. An assortment of appetizers were ordered but I saw the Poblano Peppers stuffed with chorizo and cream cheese, wrapped in bacon and cooked to pure perfection. Absolutely delicious! A must try. They were so good It was all I could think about today. Beef Wellington was on the menu but I decided to have the Pork Chop. Cooked to perfection! ( you'll see this word throughout this review) The purée mashed potato were scrumptious. I knew I had to come back for dinner today. Tonight we had the Poblano Peppers and true to form they were sooooo dang good. After last nights rave reviews I knew I had to try the Beef Wellington. Mouth watering deliciousness! I also had a couple scallops and like everything they were seared and cooked perfectly. Service is impeccable and the Chef deserves a huge pat on the culinary back. If you're in San Marcos....it's a must try. Thank me later!

Ribeye with greens and black garlic butter.

We ordered the steak burger, tuna, dish, and the ribeye. The drinks were very good. Especially the whiskey sour. The brussel sprouts were amazing! Not in pictures.

Absolute go to whenever I am in Austin/San Marcos/New Braunfels, in fact I will go well out of my way to enjoy Cody's. I met Cody several years ago and have been coming back several times a year from our home near Dallas. The food, beverages and service is stellar. The menu changes from time to time with new and delicious additions every time! We make it a point to come for birthdays and anniversaries and we are never disappointed. Cody goes out of his way to welcome us, and everyone for that matter. The staff is very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. The food is amazing! Tonight was a date night and we had the Bluefin Brie, awesome, and the Gyulais Striploin, unbelievable! We missed Cody tonight, it is his birthday today, Happy Birthday Cody, thanks for a great restaurant.

The kitchen consistently turns out high‑quality dishes made with fresh ingredients, and you can taste the care in every bite. The chef has clearly built a knowledgeable, confident staff who deliver a smooth, top‑tier dining experience from start to finish. I've eaten here many times, and nothing anywhere has matched their "Par 3" plate -- chicken salad, tuna salad, and egg salad served on crisp lettuce. Simple, fresh, and absolutely unmatched. The staff is always pleasant, attentive, and genuinely enthusiastic about the menu. They're not afraid to tell you what they personally enjoy, which makes the whole experience feel warm and authentic. San Marcos is incredibly fortunate to have Tarbox & Brown. In the two years I've been a regular, they've only continued to raise the bar -- and that says everything.

Bartenders like to overcharge and say the drink menus are "not up-to-date." Double check your tab,…read moreit's happened three times by different bartenders.

Located in downtown San Marcos in the very heart of "college town, USA," Shade offers a picturesque…read morerooftop view of downtown and surprisingly good adult beverages with modest prices all in a safe environment. I wasn't told about this establishment, rather I happened upon it while meandering about aimlessly on a Saturday afternoon in April. All the other bars at 2am seemed dead, so I saw the sign and decided to ascend the "stairway to drinks" in the easily overlooked front entrance. After hitting the top of the stairs, the place opens up to a very interesting experience. There are two main covered areas, a thought to keep in mind as it was rigorously sprinkling when I visited. First there's a well-stocked open bar area under a makeshift roof with TVs there to grab the attention if the phone isn't working. Sorry, that's a pet peeve of mine as so many people go out nowadays to bars and sit on a phone rather than socialize. What's the point!? Ok, lets get back to the review shall we? While the bar has a 270 degree seating area, there are some open tables without a roof. This yields to the largest area with a shack like roof covering picknick tables, benches all not exactly the most comfortable seating but cozy nonetheless. The fellow patrons were extremely nice and represented all spectrums of life. As for the drinks the bartender was extremely helpful in suggesting drinks of the day while being fast in severing over 30 people by himself. Kudos to slinging suds at a lightspeed pace. I don't fault the establishment for only having one person scheduled as 2pm isn't normally busy but when an impromptu bridal shower shows up, Shade showed out (meaning they handled it well)! My bourbon cocktail was perfectly balanced while their special drinks weren't overpowering yet had enough alcohol to kick start a motor into 5th gear after sitting idle for too long. Overall, I love this joint as it's everything one could realistically want in a bar. Even though their cocktails varieties are somewhat limited, sorry I wasn't ordering a "pickle-rita" they're very good and reasonably priced. The view is great no matter where which seat is selected and the people are fun and delightful. I highly suggest giving this place a shot as it checks all the boxes on an impromptu list. The only pause would be if it's raining hard, let it end before heading up the stairs.
