For our appetizers we chose the poblano peppers which were amazing and the filling is an explosion of wonderful tastes. I was pleasantly surprised by them. The milk bread was soft and flakey and the melty butter was so good. Just don't forget to sprinkle a little salt on tops of the butter. The steak was cut vertically instead of the normal horizontal when you ask restaurants to split. But after getting over that it was a little less that medium with is what we asked for but it still tasted great. Not complaining. The ponuz sauce is tasty. (I know I spelled that wrong.. sorry) the lobster Mac stayed nice a creamy throughout our meal. My review is not based on the food or server's service. That was fine. My review is based on Cody's manager, Jay, dropping the ball on a wedding celebration surprise I had planned for my recently married sister and her husband. I called ahead to make a reservation and CONFIRM they would accommodate the surprise I had planned for them (I had dropped off a bottle of wine with the hostess who assured me she knew the plan which was to have the server present it during the serving of their entrees). I took time out of my workday earlier the afternoon of our reservation to drop it off and they once again confirmed they knew the plan. They even seated us at the Chef's table because it was a special occasion. Well the surprise was never presented during the serving of their entrees. Halfway through eating our dinner I excused myself to go into the washroom to call the hostess stand and ask what was going on. The hostess' response was "oh I told her but she must have forgotten". So while I was still in the bathroom (which I explained to the hostess I called) they came out and presented the bottle. Seriously??? So I asked to speak with the manager, Jay, at the end of the evening to let her know how disappointing it was after planning ahead of time with her team to have the ball dropped like that. And Jay had this smirk on her face while I was talking like "How long do I have to listen to this "Karen" complain before I respond with a generic and poor attempt at a genuine apology when in reality I give zero you-know-whats that this was a crappy experience due to incompetence on my end". She admitted "Yeah I got busy in the back and forgot" in a monotone voice... and then she sighed and said "How can I make this right?" which we all know is code for "just tell me what you want for free because we're too cheap to do the right thing on our own." I told her I didn't want a "freebie". I wanted them to not overpromise customers they can make special accommodations for celebrations and then completely miss the mark and not care. We spent over $400 on dinner and tipped our server 20% for her service despite the celebration not happening because we're not going to take it out on someone's hard-earned tip. But Jay (and management at that location in general) needs a wakeup call when it comes to customer service. If you have to ask "How can I make this right?" AFTER charging full price and ONLY AFTER AFTER I asked to speak with you to express my disappointment then that's really just an insult to the customer. I'll tell you how I'M going to make this right. I will tell EVERYONE I KNOW IN PERSON, SOCIAL MEDIA, AND ANY RANDOS I COME ACROSS in my day-to-day activities how awful your attitude was and that you as management cannot (and should not) be relied upon to handle even the simplest celebratory gesture. And before you respond, Jay, with some BS "I tried everything I could to make it right" reply let me stop you right there: NO YOU DIDN'T... NOT EVEN CLOSE AND YOU KNOW IT. So own it because I'm blasting this all over your restaurant's socials. read more

There's good and bad. The bad, was very bad. This was the worst steak that I have ever eaten in my many years of life. - before dining here, I researching the reviews. I decided that I was going to order the popular haddock. The server announced that the daily off-the-menu special was a Picanha steak. I asked her if this was the true Brazilian steak & she replied it was, impressed that we even knew what that was. I had just eaten a very tender Picanha steak at a Brazilian steakhouse weeks prior, so I decided against the haddock & went for the special. - When my steak came, I was actually impressed by the large cut. But, that was my last positive impression. When I tried to cut it, I had to struggle with my knife. I finally was able to cut a piece & it was the toughest meat I have ever tasted. I had to spit it out. I cut a piece for my wife to taste for verification & she experienced the same, having to put her piece from mouth to plate. Mind you, the steak was ordered medium-rare, with more on the rare side, so it wasn't cooked to be tough. - I immediately called over the waitress. She was understanding, and offered another steak. I said no way, and asked her to bring me anything else that could be prepared quickly, as my wife was 1/3 through her entree. She offered a burger and I agreed. What may have been a one-star review considering the terrible steak, turned into a three-star since the burger was excellent, as were the other food items. Surprisingly, the manager, if there even was one, didn't even come over to apologize. There was no sign of a manager checking on any table. This was the first time in my life that I have ever sent a steak back. I refrain from doing so because of what the kitchen could do to my food if they're insulted. The good, & it was good: - we had the coconut shrimp appetizer. The shrimp was succulent and large. It came in an order of four. - the service by Maura was excellent. She took our drink orders and delivered post-haste. My wife particularly enjoyed the JO Chenet Sparkling Rose. - the wife's entree of lobster tacos, although extremely small & unfilling, were tasteful according to her. We were on our Anniversary and I decided to try this place out since it had good reviews. The place is easy to find and parking is good since it's in a shopping center. We loved the ambiance since it had a nice romantic bar vibe, and the service was great! Our server helped us with the menu, and we ordered our drinks and appetizer, which was the Milk Bread and the Bacon Wrapped Poblano. For our main course we ordered the Beef Wellington and also the special, which was the Lobster Ravioli. Everything tasted great and the service was good. I gave 4 stars the first time I reviewed this joint but went back again last night and dang. I had to revise. The first time I had a fish dinner, can't remember exactly what kind of fish because it's been a while but it was just ok. Last night I had the filet and it was excellent. My husband had the ribeye and both were cooked to perfection and very tasty. They dry age their meat. We had the Brussel sprout side and a couple scallops. Oh, and the app we had was also delicious, it's new I believe- the mushroom arancini. It was a fried ball of mushroom risotto with oyster and black truffle. My god that was good! Our server was awesome too, she suggested a black garlic butter for the steak and I'm not typically a sauce girl for my steaks but this came on the side and was a dipper. Did not overpower the steak at all, it was fantastic. So I now I know, this is a steak joint, not a seafood joint lol. Although the scallops were very good. The Alaskan halibut w/risotto was excellent, however we had to sit at the bar because we did not have a reservation. There were tables, inside, available, but we could not sit there.(?). It's rather pricey but worth it. I just wish we could all be treated equally. read more

She went to seat us at a table when I let her know that I had requested a specific table and that's when she realized it (It was also the only table in the restaurant with a reserved sign) Our server (Mike/Mikey) did a good job. It was nothing spectacular but also no complaints. We ordered a Martini and a Cosmo and both drinks were solid. We moved on to wine and ordered our food. A Ribeye and the Scallops. The Ribeye was perfectly cooked as were the scallops. The candied pork belly was a lot drier than usual but still good (Usually it is great) For dessert we shared a Scotch and the chocolate cake. We were looking for a place to eat that was different from what we could get in our home town of Houston. We found Cody's due to reviews. This place doesn't disappoint! The interior is intimate with low lighting. Each table has a real flame candle. Classy. It's the perfect place for sharing a bottle of wine and having a quiet meal. The walls are lined with murals of famous musicians. Our server was great. She provided input on their best dishes. I wish I remembered her name. 7/3/2024 at 9:05 PM. She has long hair and is very friendly. She did a great job. We started with the wedge salad. It's large enough to split. The bacon was so good. Very crisp and flavorful. I had the lobster ravioli for my meal. It was delicious! The sauces drizzled on the ravioli tasted like a butternut squash base. You may not think those items would pair well, but it was perfect. The dish looks small, but it was filling. The gentleman had the pork chop. It is a bone-in chop on a bed of mash potatoes. The portion is large. I am not a pork chop person, but I was very impressed. The bacon jam was great, potatoes were creamy, and the chop itself was very tender. I highly recommend both of these. I included a picture of the menu. We only found the lunch menu on Google. An assortment of appetizers were ordered but I saw the Poblano Peppers stuffed with chorizo and cream cheese, wrapped in bacon and cooked to pure perfection. Absolutely delicious! A must try. They were so good It was all I could think about today. Beef Wellington was on the menu but I decided to have the Pork Chop. Cooked to perfection! ( you'll see this word throughout this review) The purée mashed potato were scrumptious. I knew I had to come back for dinner today. Tonight we had the Poblano Peppers and true to form they were sooooo dang good. After last nights rave reviews I knew I had to try the Beef Wellington. Mouth watering deliciousness! This place was a good little surprise we started we the tuna tartar, the bakery bread, panko coconut shrimp and sweet corn bisque we were all so happy the bread with the garlic butter was a huge hit and everyone love the shrimp the tartar was so refreshing. Although it was cooked correctly (medium rare), it must have been a poor cut of beef that wasn't tenderized before cooking. The waitperson discounted my bill by 50%; however the manager didn't bother to come by and apologize and offer a service recovery. Whoever owns this restaurant should make sure the manager works the clientele who trade at the place of business. The only bright spot was the waitperson, JuJu. I met Cody several years ago and have been coming back several times a year from our home near Dallas. The food, beverages and service is stellar. Someone in town recommended this restaurant and then we heard that they would be taking over our favorite restaurant in New Braunfels, so we had to stop by and try it. The atmosphere is nice and quiet with dim lighting. I was worried that this would be more of a fancy dress restaurant but you should be ok wearing everyday casual dress. We sat at the bar and we met the owner, Cody, there. He was chatting with the staff and some of the customers too. - Crab and Chorizo Aranchini: these were very good! Cody mentioned that he sources his seafood from a supplier in Houston that supplies Austin and San Antonio. I haven't been to Cody's in a few years but went back recently to have dinner with family and it was still as excellent as I remember. Tucked away right off I-35 in a little shopping center, this place really is quite the hidden gem. From their cocktails, to wine list to inventive food menu, Cody's knows what they are doing. The perfect pairings of light and savory dishes with seasonal drinks, I loved everything. The service was a little slow to start but understandable with being so busy. We always sit in the outdoor patio but need to return and sit inside one of these days. The patio is very nice though considering it's the back of the building. They have a nice peaceful set up. We never had milk bread and it was very tasty. Actually everything we ordered was good. At our table we had crab cakes, beef short ribs, pork chops, scallops, grilled shrimp (add on), lobster tacos, and Caesar salad. Lots of the reviews said the Caesar salad was really good, it was nothing out of the ordinary but I did like that it had an artichoke in it.
