I'm always pleasantly surprised with this place- it looks like it would only have fried pickles and chicken tenders but they have great food options and drinks. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's also just a fun outdoor vibe.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]We have gone mid day with our toddler that has a hard time sitting and it has been great for that.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We hope to do date night one day and watch karaoke singers bartenders are also friendly every time we go.

Chicken Fried Ribeye... Burned to oblivion

Holy Hell. I went here tonight and placed an order to go. It was OVER AN HOUR before I got my food. I watched order after order after order come out of the kitchen, but my order was still back there. I FINALLY got my order and I was so happy... Until I got home. I ordered the Chicken Fried Ribeye and it was so overcooked that it was inedible. The meat actually cracked apart when I put my fork in it. I was still optimistic that it was only that one piece that was cooked into oblivion, but sadly, I was wrong. I guess if you're going here for nachos or a drink then this is a good place to go. This was my very first time here and it will definitely be my last.

    Catfish Thursday Special

Came here because saw the special on FB 2 thick pieces of catfish and they weren't thick it's like they split the filet. The special is 12.50 but for some reason they charged me an extra .50 cents for 2 sauces I only needed tartar. The fish was very good though and they give you a lot of fries. The hush puppies were just ok. The service was not good I sat at the bar and the bar tender this night never once checked up on me had to get a server for a refill and my check. [[HIGHLIGHT]]All in all the place is fun, they have TVs to catch sports and different stuff going on during the week.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

What a FUN place. Drink specials even on weekends. Staff super friendly and efficient. This can be a super busy place when packed out. The band was just fun too. Very into the audience. This a true casual place! Lots of TVs on the walls and clean pool tables. Can be very loud but still very chill. Food was excellent, was truly not expecting it to be so good. Drinks certainly not watered down. For a laid back fun time-this is it.

Can't really see bar lighting is terrible but food still stuck to my knife and fork.

Getting to this venue isn't difficult but what is difficult is getting IN to the venue. Specifically, I had VIP parking but I still had to wait in a single lane to get into the parking lot for more more than 30 minutes. I literally missed the beginning of the show I was supposed to see because I was sitting in my car waiting for the police to direct the one lane of traffic to the general parking lot vs the venue parking lot. Once inside the venue, concert/event goers will see different lines for VIP check-in vs. regular check-in. As I was late to this concert and was VIP, I didn't necessarily have the same problems as the Yelpers who mentioned overly long waits to get in. Once I was in the venue, I went directly to the VIP suites that are located upstairs. The suite I was in had a bar right next to it, therefore when I requested food or drinks, the waitstafff came quickly as they were within earshot. Unlike others who mentioned long waits for service, I think it largely depends upon what tye of admission you are have (general, standing room vs. suite, vs. lower level seating). This is the first outdoor venue I've been to in Central Texas that has suites. It should also be noted that those who have suits also have thier own VIP bathrooms (not porta-potties). Therefore, my opinion of the seating, bathrooms and view of the event is probably slanted because of the type of access I had. *Here's a tip, if you have a membership to the golf course next door, you can sit and listen to the music for free* Once outside the suite, the general merchandise area and event merchandise area was fairly lackluster. Aside from the stereotypical astronomical prices, this section and selections was generally unimpressive. There appeared to be several food options from Texas Barbecue to Nachos with minimal wait for food offerings. The sound of the event was good but not great. This isn't a deal breaker for me as some of the performers had trouble with their equipment. Also for this event, I went to see Blues Travler and John had COVID so this wasn't the best showing for the group. There was another lead singer reading lyrics from a sheet and as everyone knows that no one can be John other than John Popper. I left this concert early as I wanted to avoid the same issue I had getting into the venue with the traffic. I am not sure based upon this showing that I would return to an event here.

We took the back way into town from Austin which turned out to be a very scenic drive along the ridge tops and also looking down into nearby Canyon Lake. Before we arrived, I was concerned about the arrangements of the performance venue as I had a general admission ticket, which is essentially standing room only. The staff at the facility did a great job of marshaling incoming automobile traffic into the parking areas, and managing the lines. We got through the ID and security checks quickly. There are also plenty of food and drink service points so you don't have to wait long for a beer or chow. While it got a little tiring to stand for the two acts, we were able to easily pick out a great spot to view the stage and did not have any issues seeing or hearing the performance. I would come back here to see other acts in the future. Recommended.

Iconic Music Venue & Nostalgic Dive Bar…read more If you are in the mood for a cold beer and great music, then take a scenic drive out to Devil's Backbone Tavern! It first operated as a stagecoach outpost & blacksmith shop. And it famously built the Tavern in Comal County during prohibition. It wasn't until the 1950s that a dance hall pavilion was added to the property. And while the tavern wasn't made famous through country songs, it remained a popular watering hole for the locals. Today, the new owners have helped revitalize the dance hall and brought about a renewed appreciation for this musical outpost. Some of the greatest singer/songwriters come to play at Devil's so be sure to check out the list of upcoming shows. So put Todd Snider in your playlist, check your GPS, and take a drive out to Fischer for a cold beer and great music! On a more personal note, I would love to see more listening room / storytelling type shows and album signing opportunities where artists can take advantage of the great acoustics and intimate space. I think the name is hilarious because whenever you mention it to people, they ask "what place?" or ask for you to drop a pin for location since you can't figure out the name. First thing you notice when walking in is the eclectic atmosphere and funky furniture. The outdoor area is decorated with miscellaneous outdoor furniture pieces and the indoor decor is no different. Everyone at the bar (patrons and staff) are very friendly and happy to chat. Additionally, there were quite a few loose dogs which made it even more fun... I love the pups! We went inside to place our drink orders. My friend ordered a bud light (bottled as they have a limited draft menu) and I ordered a Dulce Vida Lime Tequila w/ Topo Chico & Lime. I had tried to order a few other items (like a Deep Eddy Lime Vodka w/ Diet Tonic but they were out of that liquor... and a bunch of other liquors). For the second round, I ended up ordering a Deep Eddy Cranberry Vodka w/ Topo Chico. The drinks I ordered are ones I have had before and somehow they didn't taste as good here, but they definitely weren't bad my any means. Plus, the bartenders were so nice that I wouldn't have complained. I loved that they had a popcorn machine, offered complimentary popcorn & peanuts, and had fun live music. This place was fun all around and would be great to bring a large group to! I would definitely go back with a group of friends - the whole ambiance is too fun not to.

This past weekend a large group of us came to float the river and from the moment we walked in, the customer service upstairs was rude and unprofessional. The girl with dark hair and glasses working the register was extremely nasty toward our group, even though there were barely any other customers there. At one point my brother turned to ask his fiancée a question about food, and she literally waved her fingers in his face saying "jingle jingle" asking if he had his parking pass. Later, while explaining the process for getting on the bus downstairs, she said, and I quote, "when you guys have your shit together." Completely unnecessary and disrespectful. The other short dark-haired girl taking food orders was not much friendlier. We had to repeat a very simple order multiple times -- just two hot dogs and chili tater tots -- and it still came out wrong. When we went back up, I simply said I'd just pay for the tater tots separately, and instead of helping, she dug through the receipts trying to prove we were wrong. At that point I didn't even care whose mistake it was; I just wanted to buy the food and move on. The only positive part of the experience was the staff downstairs. The ladies helping with parking and the girl helping air up tubes were all friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, between the rude service and the high prices, we won't be using Lone Star for float trips again, which is sad considering how much we used to enjoy coming here.
