Ehhhh. Atmosphere was good. It the food was mediocre at best. The burger loving kiddos didn't really think theirs were good. Fried pickles were fried perfectly but not very many. The ranch was watery. The grilled cheese was dry and flavorless but the sweet potato fries were tasty but limp. The mojito was weak. Overall our family of 4 with 2 appetizers had a bill of $120. Came on a Monday night for their inaugural bingo event! It needs some tweaking, but the bartenders were kind of just thrown into it. We had a great time playing and I won Round 3 (4 Rounds). We got some really great margaritas from a very attentive & accommodating bartender. I'm docking a star because our experience with the food was lackluster, to say the least. We ordered a chicken pesto pizza with buffalo wings (it's their $22 special) and got some weird pizza with absolutely no flavor, no pesto, and avocado chunks on it. Sent that one back and asked to try the Mediterranean pizza with chicken, balsamic glaze & fresh basil on it and we ended up with a very frightening looking pizza that was basically balsamic as a base (nobody could eat that much balsamic) and no basil at all. It is Halloween week but the vibes should be spooky, not disgusting. On the wings, we requested all flats and got 1 flat and 4 drums. Alcohol kept me from crying. The pizzas were comped, obviously, but the wings should have been too, given the fact we had to send food back twice, didn't get what we requested on the wings, and then ended up actually overpaying for the wings because they were no longer part of the pizza combo. We were also told that the margaritas were on happy hour, which ended up not being true. Just kind of a weird food experience, but service, drinks, and bingo were great! Well it was late and all were hungry so we sung into Max's on a whim. And it turned out to be a great time. We walked in and were welcomed by the staff. Then throughout our time we all got to play shuffleboard, darts, pool and watch the DJ set up for karaoke later that night. The playlist was on point with some great classic and country music playing. The food came out and it was hot, fresh and tasty. All the sudden our table was very quiet devouring our hot sandwiches and nachos. We will definitely be back, especially for some live music and their almost daily events. read more

Max's is a typical Roadhouse style Bar & Restaurant. No frills with lots of space for large parties or events with live music. The food was pretty good! We started with the Wisconsin Fried Cheese curds which were tasty. The highlight for me was the Pulled Pork Grilled Cheese sandwich! The pork was so tender and well seasoned. I couldn't get enough, even though it had a healthy portion of pork in the sandwich. The crinkle fries were on point as well. read more

Hate to give a terrible review because for the most part it's a fun atmosphere with friends and the food is decent. The staff is friendly and helpful. It's just a shame when you get your bill and your charged a ridiculous fee to use your credit card. 5.75% credit card fee seems excessive. There are a few restaurants in the same area that have the same quality of food if not better and experience for the same exact pricing that don't charge a credit card fee. Seems to me they are more worthy of my business. So sorry Max's. But I'm gonna head on over to The branch or Screaming Goat. They don't buckle and dine their customers. read more

Wow. Wow. Wow! We used to come quite often. But after a while the menu was a bit boring , then it dropped down to just a few things and now.... They have 1000% stepped up their food game! Stopped in tonight for their outstanding burger and found ourselves ordering items off the "seasonal" menu. Holy wow, the salmon was outstanding, it was leaps and bounds above any chain steak house in San Antonio. My hubby had the fried fish plate and it was over flowing with shrimp and fish (and they were not the typical frozen fish patty). Service was exceptional and the food is def 10/10! Clearly there is a service attitude problem here. 15min to get drinks, held the door for our server and no "thank you", never checked on us, had to make a scene to get her attention. Food was good but our server ruined it. The calamari was delicious but given the portion size $14.00 should have been $7 or $8. This is the third time being there and more disappointed than the other two times!!!!! It was over an hour before someone took my drink order. Then that took 30 minutes. Then another 30 for a food order which then took over an hour to get. I was told the meal would be taken off the bill... NOPE! This has happened every time I have been there. It was our first visit and meeting up with family for a casual get together driving between San Antonio and Austin. The food was delicious and freshly made and the bartender and server were so sweet and welcoming. The fried green beans were tasty and I loved the homemade ranch dressing to dip it in. The Philly cheese steak sandwich and crinkle cut fries were so crispy and good. The cheese burgers were the most popular at our table and everyone said they were so good and flavorful. Max's on 281 - what to say? Atmosphere is ok not great - it's a bar - or more of a roadhouse bar. The food is also ok for bar food. It's expensive - $9 for 5 bacon wrapped jalepenos with cream cheese and $14 for 10 wings and fries. If you want a place to get drinks and some bar food this is pretty decent. read more

This place charges a 5.75% "non-cash adjustment" fee to all tabs. This is something that started showing up just after Covid with places trying to recover lost income by transferring it to the guest. For Gods sakes, we're out of Covid, now they're just gouging more despite the over-priced drinks just to fatten their bottom line. They'll say it's to offset the cost they incur for using a MC/Visa POS system. That's the cost of doing business Max!!! Don't gouge your guests at every turn.
