As hard as it seems to believe, another month flew by, and it was time for another retiree luncheon with my friends. This time, we went all the way to the Spring Branch area to eat here at Richter's Antler Inn. I had found it on an internet search for new places for our group. Nobody in our group of nine had ever heard of it, let alone eaten there. The distance scared a few off, but most of the usual folks came. I knew I was ordering liver and onions months ago when I first studied the menu. I got mine fried because one of my friends said that would be best. I knew my mom always sauteed it in a fry pan, so I passed on the grilled version. I was really shocked when it was served fried with a batter like a chicken fried steak. My friend said that was how her mama always did it. That will probably be how I always do it going forward. It was perfect. The whole plate, which included mashed potatoes with brown gravy and corn, was perfect. I also tried an Antlerita on the rocks. Believe me, it was the best margarita I have had in years. It was only something like four dollars at happy hour prices. I would have had another, had I not been driving. Others in our group had chicken fried steaks, fried catfish, and fried shrimp. I could see that all of the portions were large. I specifically asked how everyone liked their food. Not one negative response in the bunch. That always makes me happy as the organizer. The atmosphere here is pure Texas Country. It is beautifully rustic and felt like a very comfortable ranch lodge. I'm going to put it on the list for out of state guests in the future. Our server was a very young man. I tried to remember the name, but y'all no I have a mind like a sieve, as Daddy used to say. Anyway, he looked like he might have just graduated high school and gone straight to work here. He did a great job. I don't think there was one mistake on our order. Any my folks always make special requests that would annoy a veteran server. I'm going to mention the price here, because it simply blew me away. I had fried liver and onions, Texas toast, mashed potatoes with gravy, a margarita, and a sweet tea all for $16.00! I stopped for fast food the other day and paid more than that. I had the chargrilled chicken breast and we also had the pork chop plate. Both were very good and very well prepared. The food tasted really good and presentation was awesome. Our server was named Mackenzie and she was outstanding. Her Service essentials and attention to detail is to be commended. The ambience of the restaurant is country. Saturday, 5-30-2026: We met hubby's sister & husband here for lunch. Prices were very reasonable and menu was extensive. Upon entering it had the log cabin, rustic vibe with antler chandeliers and taxidermy decor. Animal activists would be uncomfortable here. We were warmly greeted by the hostess & seated right away. Anyhow, I ordered the fried catfish, which was good and filling with creamed corn & tater tots as sides. Again, I had to box up leftovers. I've been going to Antler Cafe for about a year, since I moved an RV in the area to be near my son anytime I wanted. After 40 years on the road, eating out all the time, I rarely find a restaurant that inspired me. Antler Cafe changed that. Delicious, "home cooked" food, served HOT, generous servings and great atmosphere. Always courteous service personnel. Best BLT I have ever enjoyed - including home made! Seemed like a 5? I gave it a 4 because I have had some sides come out that were warm, and appeared to be "canned". Not a major issue - just being honest. Consider this 4 as 4.80 stars. read more

If you want a piece of Texas come on in here. From the decor of antlers, taxidermy, and country music stars on the walls you know it is going to be good. Our server was so sweet and attentive, everyone had a smile and they're so helpful. If you want some down home cooking, look no further. The kids loved their burgers. I had hamburger steak for 2 days, and it was delicious both days. And a chicken fried steak that was huge. I couldn't finish my steak after devouring the mountain of fried pickles with my husband. This place is always busy. Parking can be a cluster since none of the lots are strung together correctly. The main lot in front requires you to do a five point u-turn if there are no spots. Lot of people park across the street, which I believe belongs to the next door bar, but at lunch time had plenty of space. At night parking becomes even more challenging. Hopefully they add more parking in the future. Staff is friendly. You feel like you are at home or in a small town. They are busy but take the time to make you feel welcome. Food is what you'd expect from a cafe eatery. I had the chicken with green beans and mashed potatoes without gravy. The chicken was fresh and grilled to perfection. Veggies were done just right. Prices are good for what you get. The establishment has several different areas that have been added or converted as the restaurant has become more and more popular. Although crowded with most tables filled on a Wednesday for lunch it wasn't loud so you can easily have conversations. I would recommend this place... My parents eat here weekly. We tried on the weekend for lunch and it was a zoo, so we ate elsewhere, but came back later on a weekday, so recommend that. read more

Group of 5, today, 05/19/2026 1. we arrived prior to 11am. We were 2nd in the restaurant. Ordered and then did not get food for 45 minutes. 2. A waitress was killing flies in the windows by tables in the new addition room~~ ON THE TABLE!!!! She didn't clean the tables after sliding the dead flies on the floor. Hostess brought a couple in and sat them at the FLY GUT table. I brought it to her attention ~ instead of cleaning table she mouthed to the bus guy which didn't understand her soooooo the table was NOT cleaned! Disgusting!!!! 3. We also ordered the hamburger steak with gravy and had the same food service.. cold. We were there at 7:30, so it wasn't closing time. We drove over 45 miles because we've been here before, but with gas prices and low quality food service, we won't be returning. The Antler Café is a rustic restaurant located off Highway 46 in Spring Branch, Tx. My girlfriends and I arrived right before they opened at 11 AM as they get busy pretty quick with the lunch crowd we were in and out of there within an hour today. Inside the restaurant is very country with a hunting vibe, wildlife taxidermy. They serve up wonderful, homemade fried food and other delicious dishes, including homemade pies. Today I ordered the large chicken fried steak with a side of fried okra and jalapeño macaroni and cheese. When you order the large chicken fried steak, it's actually two portions of chicken fried steak so I immediately put one of them in a takeout container so I wouldn't be tempted to eat the other piece. everything was good and golden fried served with white gravy on top or you can choose it on the side. The Oakwood was great. Be sure to ask for their ranch dressing. It's fantastic when you dipped the okra in it I love my jalapeño mac & cheese. My only complaint about it is they never serve it hot enough, it's barely warm. I still eat it though because it taste amazing and even though it has jalapeños in it, it is not spicy at all even though it says it is on the menu. Very underwhelming to say the least. Have seen many recommendations about their CHS. Whole entering I couldn't help but notice a lot of the patrons were older(70's-80's) and in my experience this is a sign of bland time to come. Sat at the bar ordered and when salad came it was at the beginning stage of wilt, dressing( thousands island) was great though. Plate came and it was the wrong fried protein( chicken ), when I informed the bartender she immediately owned it, which is great for the business as most employees will immediately cast blame. CFS was brought out shortly after. Was it fresh? Yes. But... The breading was very much like a beer batter like you would find at chili's on their tenders and not much of seasoning to note on. On to the sides... green beans were a solid 8/10 with good chucks/sliced of ham. The mash potatoes, well I honestly thought they were boxed and had very little taste to them. No butter or heavy cream let alone salt of pepper. Thankful there were salt and pepper shakes. I get that they have a strong local support and good for them. It's ok. The place is nice and the outside patio is a fun place to have lunch but, the food is middle of the road and that's where the good ends. Staff is more interested in talking among each other and playing with the animals roaming the patio. We were having a conversation about a certain event being cancelled in the Comal fairgrounds, expressing our opinions on it being a good thing, after said conversation we noticed our servers being less interested in coming out way. The missing items on our plates were not corrected and refills and condiment requests ignored. Political opinions should not impact service maybe I was imagining it but everyone at our table seemed to feel it. Food was decent, except the the spicy Mac and cheese that tasted like vinegar, turns out all of this is regular mac & cheese with pickled jalapeños, chopped into it. Very disappointing imo but don't let my experience deter you from trying to place out, locals seem to love it! Stopped in April14 after golf in San Antonio. All four of us ordered the same meal, except one of us ordered the large size CFS. The meal was excellent as in last visits. One of the best CFS dinners around. This was the first time I've seen and enjoyed the beautiful new expansion with the full bar, high ceilings, large flatscreen and many deer, elk and other trophies adorning the walls. Prices here are so reasonable for the size and quality of the meals. The drinks were great and reasonably priced as well. Our server was very nice and on top of things. Nothing to complain about here! If I lived closer I'd definitely be a regular customer! read more

This is probably not the first time I've written a review on Antler's, but they have changed over the years and I thought it might be time to update. The food is always good to me and I like the wait staff a lot! Always friendly and on top of things. The wife and I both had fried catfish this time and it was delicious and plenty of food. This is a personal preference but we like the catfish strips a little crispy and more done that they were today but it is good food nonetheless. Sides are awesome as I love their spicy mac and cheese. The place is decorated with all the old antlers and well as some new mounts. Went to Antler Cafe today with my 2 sons for lunch. They ordered their meal along with a domestic beer for each of them. The waitress said these beers would be 3 bucks a piece for domestic so thats what they ordered. However, when the bill came each beer was $6.25. She said the beers ordered were not domestic beer and it came at a higher price. The beers were Texas Lager beers so nothing special or imported about them. They should have been 3 bucks as we were told... NOT COOL. So 3 beers cost us around $20 bucks with tax. It was a little awkward arguing about being overcharged but my son decided to pay the full amount anyway out of the kindness of his heart. I wouldn't have paid that much. We've been hearing about the Antler Café for a while and finally had the chance to try it. We started with a couple of signature cocktails that had fun names, though they turned out to be pretty standard drinks. For an appetizer, we ordered the Chips and Queso--the queso was actually quite good. For the main course, I went with the Grilled Calf Liver and Onions. While not everyone's favorite dish, I thought it was well-seasoned and cooked just right. The green beans and mashed potatoes were fresh and homemade, though they didn't really stand out. Overall, I'm glad we finally checked this place off our list. It's a bit of a drive for us, so I wouldn't go out of my way to return, but if I were in the area again, I'd happily stop in. read more

The restaurant is located in Bulverde. There is ample parking in the front and side of the restaurant. You'll see chickens running around waiting to be fed but don't feed them. There is a playground for kids. They offer both indoor and outdoor seating. There are misting fans outdoor to keep you cool in the summer. The portions are HUGE and the price is affordable! I love how much you can get for less than $15. I was able to share my Large Chicken Fried Steak with my daughter and we still have leftovers to bring home. They have unique delicacies like frog legs and liver and onions. My husband and daughter enjoyed them. A family of 4 spend less than $50 not including tip. That is a great deal for a family.
