Golf clap to the visionary that put this development together. Fun Buns shares amenities which includes a kid's playground & a mini dog park, a food truck park, a quaint bar and a stage for live music. The grounds are clean, lined with astroturf and have ample seating. It has a young vibe and is a good place to sit back on your bum bum and have fun. The cheese curds got us started followed by the El Diablo, the chicken sandwich on toasted sourdough, with a side of sweet potato fries. Protein and complex carbohydrates was a healthy option. Fun Buns is fun! and they serves great buns!! Stopped by for a casual lunch with the family. We loved the funky art work (think of well-known buns as wall art, in a tasteful cartoon-like way). Lots of humorous references to "buns" that we all appreciated. My granddaughter particularly loved the oversized Hei Hei ( from Moana) near the front door. We started with cheese curds that were fabulous, served with ranch dressing, but they brought us blue cheese dressing when requested. Many sandwich choices! I had the yummy mushroom Swiss burger with side salad. Hubby had a terrific Hawaiian, with scrumptious pineapple. Daughter had a delish chicken salad and grandd aughter had tenders with fries. The buns were slightly sweet and every ingredient complemented the others. As Hwy 46 is always under construction, I avoid this area like the plague. I guess that's why I had never given this place a chance. It turns out that I was missing some great food. So, we battled the construction traffic, nearly got rear ended, and pulled into the parking area. As this was not a peak eating time, we were able to get great parking near the front entrance. Walking up, we noticed a huge outside eating area that also included a play area for your dog (all fenced in, so it's safe for your pet). We located the entrance and walked in. Immediately we were greeted by a friendly hostess. She asked if we wanted inside or outside seating and showed us to our table. Our waitress showed up quickly, and when she found out we had never been there before, she went over the menu, recommended her favorites, and took our drink orders. While she was getting our drink orders, we decided on what we wanted and placed our orders with her when she returned. Food came out rather quickly and was just as we ordered. I couldn't wait and took a big bite (when I say a big bite, that is a fitting description as you have to open your mouth really wide to fit a bite in your mouth). The food was very tasty and had a hint of both sweet and spicy. Our waitress was really nice, and we talked with her a while. We found out she was from the area and was working here while she goes to Texas State University. While my wife was talking with her, I took some time to walk around the restaurant. I went to the bar and found that it was a full bar and had the expected brands of booze. Will I return!? If you like smash burgers, you'll like Fun Buns. The service is excellent and the environment fun. My only complaint was that the meat was a bit overseasoned (gritty) and the onion rings (HUGE) were greasy or oily possibly due to not using hot enough fryer oil. I almost don't want to write this review because I don't want my favorite burger place to end up overcrowded. BUT I guess sharing is caring. I was driving up to Spring Branch for an errand so I looked up places to grab a bite. Fun buns seemed like a good option. Well. Now I'm addicted to their burgers and shakes so not sure how well this worked out for me. Their shakes are huge and tasty. No, this I will not share. I savored every last sip by myself. Now the burgers, I love the creativity and options. I probably looked like I hadn't eaten in days with how savagely I dug into it. I tried the barnyard bun which is a little messy to eat, but worth it. All my favorite toppings -- a fried egg, pico de gallo, avocado, bacon, AND HABANERO BACON JAM. I did a little dance just now thinking about all that greatness. We also tried the onion rings-- amazing. I can't think of a single thing to complain about. They're located on a lot that also has an outdoor bar right next door, with some food trucks parked in the back. They have their own outdoor seating available as well. Plenty of parking. While working out of town all week, I spotted Fun Buns while passing through. While speaking with a coworker of mine, he mentioned that he had heard that this was a great place to get a delicious burger. So, my coworker and I decided to give this little jewel a try. We both strolled in at opening time, so we were greeted promptly, and we told to pick whatever seat we wanted. Very clean looking restaurant with a diner meets arcade type feel to it. Lots of busy looking decor, and well laid out. After my coworker and I made our seat selection, we were greeted with menus and our drink orders were taken. The waitress asked if we had been here before, to which we responded we were first timers. She gave us a run down of the menu, then left us to peruse the menu. Looking at the menu, it was hard to make a decision. So many good looking burgers, and I wanted to try all of them. My wallet and my waistline convinced me this was a bad idea. So, I had narrowed it down to the Messy Bun or the Barnyard Bun. Although I was wanting a burger, I had a hankering for a good cheese steak. The waitress returned quickly with the drinks. My colleague inquired and asked which one was her favorite, to which she replied the Messy Bun. I asked which one was better out of the Messy Bun or the Barnyard Bun, to which she still replied the Messy Bun. The coworker and I both ordered the Messy Bun, mine ordered sans bell peppers. The coworker and I sat and discussed our workday, and in good time, the food arrived. Both of the sandwiches looked awaking. All of the boxes were checked. Plenty of beef, check. Gooey provolone cheese, check. Perfectly grilled onions, and not too many of them, check. Toasted hoagie bun, check. Crispy, crunchy, salty fries, check. We both went to work on these amazing cheese steaks, and both of us devoured them. The fries were also very tasty and did not disappoint. Both of us had not one single complaint. I had made the declaration to my coworker that this was now my favorite place to get a cheese steak. Our waitress returned with the bill, we both paid, and were out the door to work. Both of us very impressed, and wishing this was not so out of the way to get to. Hopefully they expand to New Braunfels or San Antonio one day. I absolutely, and unequivocally recommend Fun Buns. Kudos to our other coworker who recommended this as well. I definitely will return when my travels bring me through here again. Please stop and give this place a try. You will be glad you did. We tried Fun Buns a few weeks ago and we loved it! I got the Cowboy, and loved it! Bbq sauce, bacon jam, a big onion ring on top of a smash burger - wow! Husband got the Mac Daddy..The ingredients were similar to another "MAC" we've had, but THIS one blew the other away! My son got the FAT Daddy & really enjoyed it! Fries were awesome too! We sat outside and it was pleasant. Not too hot and it was very clean. Kid/family friendly for sure. Service was great. The hostess was so sweet. Finding the spot was a bit weird since it's hidden, and my GPS led me through winding roads. But eventually, we found it! We opted to eat outside because of the fresh weather, and it was great. The service was excellent--we were helped almost immediately, and our server was great. One downside was that she was the only one helping all the tables outside. Despite being busy, she did manage to check on us and made sure everything was okay. The other downside was the prices. It is a bit pricey, but you get a lot of food. The fried mushrooms were really good, they were hot and fresh with a perfect amount of seasoning and really crispy. I give my dogs unseasoned cooked ground beef, so I'll probably go give them this patty, since I don't wanna feel like I wasted 30$. Also got the boudin balls, ate one and stopped, not very tasty at all, I'm sure it would've tasted better if it was cooked all the way, the inside of them just looked like mush, And the batter for them do not go together. Well this was a fun adventure....there was so much more than I expected. Fun buns is in a whole complex of restaurants/bars, food trucks and live music. I was not expecting that, it was so cool. The night we went the band was pretty good too. Inside it is such a cool vibe with a mural and cool decor. We had great service from our server Clarissa. As someone who is slowly becoming a fried pickle aficionado, these were some of the best I have had. They use a light batter like you would use on fish and chips. Super light and tasty. Our burgers were hot and tasty. The kids enjoyed their sliders. The hubs devoured his PB&J burger. I tried it, I mean, for quality control purposes, and I really enjoyed it! The PB&J gives that sweet and salty contrast, and on that super soft bun. It is a winner! This place is also on my approved bathroom list. Super cool wallpaper/decor and clean. They also have a small arcade, which has some classic games and claw machines. A great place for a family or group meal or a date at the bar. So much flavor, the perfect balance of sweet and savory, and amazing textures in every bite. You can tell real care goes into their food. Also, the service was great. Our waitress made sure to stop by every so often to check on our drinks and asked every time how our food was. So much attention to detail all around. We ordered a Dr Pepper milkshake that was excellent. The Cowboy bites were good. The onion rings could have been exemplary but were dripping with oil. They are the biggest I've ever seen anywhere and tasted great, though we couldn't finish them because of the excessive cooking oil. We were there shortly after opening, maybe later the oil might be hotter and not saturate the batter as much. At least it seemed like fresh oil. We will return.
