Friendly service, great ambiance, pretty good food... we will definitely be back with friends

Max's on 281 - what to say? Atmosphere is ok not great - it's a bar - or more of a roadhouse bar. The food is also ok for bar food. It's expensive - $9 for 5 bacon wrapped jalepenos with cream cheese and $14 for 10 wings and fries. If you want a place to get drinks and some bar food this is pretty decent. read more

Food: great! Only had bar-bites but pizza & burgers look amazing. Service: top notch at the bar where we're always at. Automatic refills, they're always hustling constantly filling drink orders...no standing around. This staff is awesome, albeit young but professional in dealing with customers. Super attentive. Can't stress professionalism enough. Ambiance: great. Local. Bar. (& grill) Our favorite local hangout. We've become loyal to Max. read more

Moving here, based on reviews I was very stand-offish to go here, because of some reviews however I was impressed on everything! The food was amazing we had the burger and pizza and it was delicious. We had multiple cocktails and everyone was great. The service from our waiter was truly amazing great energy made us feel welcomed and it was very relaxed environment. read more

I like this place. The menu is small but it was still good. It has the basics. We got cheese burgers with fries and they were piping hot. Buns were so good lightly toasted. House marg was tasty and they had some pulled pork tacos as a special not on the menu and those were pretty good also. This place is big and wasn't very busy. Wait staff was friendly and attentive. Outdoor seating is available and inside is a whole vibe. Definitely will come back. read more

I love going into Max's! Friendly staff with relaxing atmosphere. Love their cheese curds. nachos & hamburgers. No one around here does them better than Max's Roadhouse. Service is good! It's just a nice place to sit & hang out with friends & family. Weekends they have live bands which I haven't gone to, yet. But, here it's a whole lot of fun! read more

Mothers Day, 2021. Having a son with autism and going to a new place has always given me a little bit of anxiety because I don't know how he'll react. I looked up the pictures here on Yelp and saw the menu has food my son likes, pepperoni pizza, chicken wings, and fry's. The food was very good! The staff was friendly! The bloody mary was delicious! And the women's bathroom was very clean! Also my brother was able to teach my son how to play pool. That was the highlight of my day read more

We stopped there for lunch on a Saturday. Ambiance and service were good. I had the pulled pork street tacos and my wife had the chicken bacon flat bread pizza. Both were pretty tasty and reasonably priced. The only thing I would improve is that is was a little hard to find a table as they had a few empty tables that still had dirty dishes. Our table was clear but hadn't been wiped down. I would definitely go back though. read more

Had great hopes for this place! Love the ambiance! Great outdoor patio which hinted possible live music. Inside boosted great Texas style decor, with a rock double fireplace, pool tables, a shuffleboard, and a huge bar. Plenty of tables to sit & enjoy a meal at & then that's when it slides down hill.. no menu! The selections are pitiful! Come on now, you guys definitely can stretch your neck and make this place into a great gathering spot. Open your horizons & your pantry! 5 items? Really read more

This place charges a 5.75% "non-cash adjustment" fee to all tabs. This is something that started showing up just after Covid with places trying to recover lost income by transferring it to the guest. For Gods sakes, we're out of Covid, now they're just gouging more despite the over-priced drinks just to fatten their bottom line. They'll say it's to offset the cost they incur for using a MC/Visa POS system. That's the cost of doing business Max!!! Don't gouge your guests at every turn. Thankfully I don't frequent this place, this only guarantees my not returning!!! read more

Food is good and wait staff is pretty good but it is THE noisiest place I have ever gone for dinner. Put down some carpet to cut down the extremely loud atmosphere!! For the love of all that is holy!! read more

The bartender was very nice and accommodated my drink request, but later that night my stomach was not good. I ordered 2 tacos, pulled pork and I think beef. They came with No lettuce, tomatoes, slaw, etc. Just the meat and a sauce. read more

"After three decades of exploring San Antonio's wing scene, I ventured to Max's Roadhouse in Spring Branch, and I must say, it was a game-changer. Opting for the 10-piece wings extra crispy with a tantalizing blend of Thai chili sauce and lemon pepper, I was in for an unforgettable treat. Each bite was a symphony of flavors--tender, juicy, and perfectly cooked. Paired with a generous serving of crinkle-cut fries, it was a culinary masterpiece. Without a doubt, Max's has earned its place among the best wing joints in the San Antonio area. Don't hesitate to give them a try--you won't be disappointed!" Ask for Annie!! She's kind, personable and very attentive! She has a great soul and a great personality! Tip her fat! read more

Best fried pickles in my life !!! Great place for lunch ! Good service, friendly people

You have to appreciate this place for what it is... a bar with awesome bar food. Jalapeno poppers and queso fries are amazing. I've only ever been here after work so I cant say what its like at night but its fairly busy around 530, especially if there is a game. But, dont worry, there's plenty of bar and table seats and service is quick. (During happy hour you can get a beer for around $3-4 and a glass of wine for $5.) read more

The food was really great. No healthy choices. Pretty much everything was fried. It was a splurge night for me so that was ok. But definitely not good for a regular night out. Our waitress was new and didn't know anything about bourbon or skinny margaritas but she was sweet. I deducted 3 stars cause NO ONE was we wearing a mask!!! No employees had a mask. The bar area was packed and there was a big birthday party inside. Your President has Covid. Be safe folks! The patio was nice. read more

The server was super sweet and nice, but that's about it. I ordered the California pizza. Chicken was pink and not cooked. When it was brought up to the server, she said that's weird because the chicken is pre-cooked. My chicken was literally pink and chewy!! It could have been pre-cooked, but maybe it wasn't cooked enough. They asked if I wanted another one. I declined, and they took it off our ticket. My mother in law got the Hawaiian pizza. Wasn't good. The pizza I got in the school cafeteria was a lot better. They just threw on the pineapple after the pizza was cooked. Hard and cold. My boyfriend got the Philly. His looked good, but he ended up getting sick later on in the day. I don't know what happened, the food used to be really good but it definitely went downhill. The beer tasted funky and flat. We will be taking our business else where. Hopefully, they change things in the kitchen. read more

Service was fast and great. Limited menu options but the staff were very accommodating with my order changes. Beer was nice and cold. Crinkle-cut fries were the BOMB. Perfectly crispy and salted. Full of flavor! Kinda loud joint but everyone was having a good time so better than the alternative. I'll definitely be back! read more

So delicious and wonderful service! Nice decor and a few games around the place to create a nice atmosphere. Food is definitely top notch, as are the servers. AWESOME lemonade! read more

We've been long time patrons of Max's and always enjoy our time there. We love just about every food item on the menu and the staff is always friendly. I had my first steak at their weekly steak night held every Thursday. I was pleasantly surprised at how good it was. If you're looking for a tasty bite and a cold drink, I'd recommend checking them out. read more

After passing This place multiple times on our way back and forth to Blanco, we decided we'd give it a try and see what it was about. Relatively newish looking spot . The building is quite inviting with ample seating space and a cool separate ish type room for a live band. The room design was such that you could either be on one side watching and listening to the band or closer to the bar and other seating areas and while you could still hear the band it wasn't so loud that you couldn't enjoy talking. There are photos of the outside but with the sun setting facing that area we opted to stay inside. Not exactly sure what to do about the food situation, we opted for some cheese sticks and some wings. We decided later if we wanted something we could order an additional sandwich. Lots of beer choices with a full bar looks like they have happy hour not only for food but also for drinks. Not super thrilled about the food. This is nothing more than some Sysco prepared foods fried heated up. Nothing bad just not a place that I would recommend to go if you want something very interesting to eat. The only other thing that bothered me was how dirty the floor was as well as the bar top. Just a quick wipe or a sweep would have taken care of this. It's not that I think the place is dirty, as we actually watched the barback do a fantastic job of washing the glasses very studiously. Not only was he thorough in his glass washing he was prompt to be refilling all the cold Wells and even pulled out the cold beer to put the warmer beer on the bottom. The service was extremely nice. All the bartenders were very friendly and polite and seem to genuinely like what they were doing and their customers. We'll be back again but just to have drinks and enjoy the music. read more

WHAT HAPPENED?!? We have been patrons since 2012 and come for the poppers. They use to be HUGE, at least 6 inches. They have definitely shrunk saying 3 inches is really stretching it. So sad..... We were loyal, but this may call for us to venture and try the new establishments "popping" up on 46. read more

Great drinks, friendly atmosphere and a clean/safe place to hang out. Recommend it for sure!

They don't have an actual kitchen. All food is made by food truck and it took forever to get our food. We had separate checks too and those took just as long to get. Cool hang out if you are just looking for a beer but not food read more

This is a bar serving food, not a restaurant serving beer. Too many kitchen staff are just kids and they don't care what they put out. My wings came out slimy and we sent them back. Then they sent them back out to us about 30 times hotter where they weren't edible. It's almost as though the kids in the kitchen wanted to punish us for not wanting to eat slimy wings. Seriously, how hard is it to fry them to crisp folks. read more

We stopped here on the way back from seeing the Christmas lights in Johnson City and it did not disappoint. We ordered a burger and a couple chicken sandwiches and they were on point! Delicious! My daughter and I had sweet potato fries and my hubby and son had the crinkle fries...both were good but ours were so tasty! We will definitely be back. It was clean, the food was outstanding, and the music was great. I would have uploaded a pic of our food, but we devoured it. 10 out of 10 recommend!!! read more

The environment here is vintage country bar and I really enjoyed that ambiance, the food was absolutely mouth watering and whoever is in charge of the grill is definitely a professional very high quality food, the wait staff is also very friendly and really helpful for instance our waitress answered all of our questions about menu items with detailed answers as well as brought up specials and explained when all the fun is happening like KARAOKE!! Their pulled pork tacos are my go to fave! Great place hang out with friends - love when they have live music nights.

Slow service, tried this place for the first time. Ordered patty melt was delicious and lots of flavor. Wings were on the smaller side and not quite the heat we expected from "blazing buffalo" name. Drove 35 minutes to eat here based on reviews but this place is not family friendly. There only have bar hight tables so I would have to hold my son to eat there.
