I've been to this bar twice, and have really enjoyed it each time. First, it's got a small and cozy feel, yet it's never busy enough to feel crowded or that people are in your personal space. Second, the music is loud enough to enjoy, but not so loud that you have to shout to be heard. And, last but certainly not least, is the service! I believe her name is Deztiney, the bartender that has been there both times! She is friendly and welcoming and makes a GREAT old fashioned, and everything else for that matter. I was with a friend who doesn't drink alcohol unless it's in a frozen cocktail, and since that wasn't an option she made her a pretty "mocktail" that was delicious. Having a food truck option and The Purple Pig next door makes this a great inexpensive "dinner and drinks" option for a chill evening. Met an old friend who moved up to New Braunfels here for a couple of drinks to catch up on lost time. Really nice set up in an old house with an open concept. I feel the one really good thing about this place was the music. They had some amazing DJ's. Everything else was pretty standard. I can say this place is similar to the Bonham Exchange on a smaller scale as far as it being a house turned club. Everything was pretty standard. Decent drinks and good service. Understandably so, the downsides would be the parking and the line to get in. I say my wait time was at least 25-30 minutes and once inside it didn't seem as packed so that I found a little disappointing. Be as it may, this establishment is along the lines of Bentley's, Lucky Duck and Social Spot so you will come across a colorful cast of characters. My advice, go early or take a Lyft. read more

There's a large parking lot across the street & street parking. So, unlike some downtown locations, parking is not an issue. As you walk up you see the Purple Pig Food Truck next to Bar House Schertz. There are a few picnic tables that you can sit at & eat before even walking into Bar House. The bartender Tarrin greeted us as we walked up to the bar. He was young & very friendly. My friend ordered the Cherry Limeade Mule. She loved it. She said it reminded her of a Cherry limeade from sonic. It's made w ginger beer. I wanted to try to Strawberry Basil but they didn't have any strawberries. So, I asked if they had fresh mint, nope.... They didn't have that either. I asked about wine, not a large selection. So, I just gave up & ordered an Old Fashioned. They were out of Ice cubes so instead my drink was filled w ice. Not good bc my drink was watered down quickly. He apologized that they didn't have the whiskey ice cubes. (He could've made up for it by not adding so much ice though) Last thing regarding the drink, every Old Fashioned I have had has the Luxardo dark cherries. I was given a maraschino Cherry. ‍ It might sound crazy but I know I'm not alone in saying that the dark Luxardo Cherry is an amazing finish to an Old Fashioned. Maraschino cherries just scream cheap. They go on the top of sundaes, not in an Old fashioned. I appreciated that they gave our designated driver a Coke for free. I think DD's are greatly under appreciated by bars. My other friend chose to play it safe & just got a beer. Now, moving past the lackluster drink. The back covered patio is fantastic! There are picnic tables & at the far end there was a group celebrating a 40th birthday. You can walk down stairs or a ramp (nice that it is handicap accessible) into the open yard. The "yard" is perfect! There are Adirondack chairs arranged in circles w a table in the center in each corner of the yard area. There are a couple of chairs on the sides to sit in. At one table in the back corner there was a large Jenga set. Right in the middle of the open area is Cornhole. We had fun playing a few rounds of cornhole & then let another group play. All in all we had fun! The atmosphere was great. If you are hungry The Purple Pig is right inside the front gate w great food. I'm sure we will be back & we will bring friends! I feel like the vibe was good. Security guard was outstanding. The bartenders need to take their customers safety more seriously though. I was asking for a bottled water and the woman recommended a sparkling water, I agreed to it. She then proceeded to take 2 OPEN cans from to opposite corners of the bar and pour it into a cup for me to drink! I then asked her to open me a brand new one for me. The atmosphere is perfect. This by far my favorite neighborhood bar. The drink prices are cheap and the service is amazing. The bartenders are very attentive to the point that even if you are there for the first time, you get the treatment as if you are a regular. Ask for the breakfast shot... if you do... make sure you tip good... it's a pain in the ass to make but it's so frickin good... sometimes they have food trucks which is great... it's easy to get to, you can leave your car overnight without fear for its safety.
